This video is one of the closest things I've seen to being able to explain what it is to be a car and driving enthusiast. Also, the breadth vs depth point at the conclusion was really important. For me, breadth is the 'nice to have' but depth is where the real meaning is. And because cars and times are changing and certain cars are becoming irreplacable, that depth of expierience is more precious than ever before. Hugo's NSX sounds like the perfect car to inspire this discussion. What a great video, what a great car.

Been having some of the thoughts mentioned here. Got my NSX a few years ago as the car I wanted since high school when it debuted (advertising age some there). Since then I got a new Civic Type-R as a daily and realized that in most circumstances it is higher performance than the NSX (which is stock). My friend is into Porsche (has owned 997 S, 991 GT3, and 718 Spyder) so I've experienced what more modern cars are capable of. I've been tempted to replace the NSX with a more modern car with warranty and higher performance for roughly the same price. However no other car feels as special as the NSX at least not in my price range. It is still fun at the limit, sounds better than most modern cars, and brings joy to other car enthusiasts which I get a kick out of. I'm keeping it.

@@mrb6144 I'm keeping it. It's actually been gone for weeks out of state getting major 8 year service done. The steering rack is in a different state getting a rebuild. I'm dying to get it back. I'm hoping it will be in the best shape since new. It has been very reliable and low maintenance up to this point, but this will be the most I've ever spent on a car service by far.

One of your best Fenton. The depth of perspective that you now have from the 6 years of seat time in various cars, and personal growth, really makes this video easy to identify with. The s2000 has transformed my driving (many track days, long trips, etc) in many ways, and inspired me to work on my own car--learning oil changes, brakes, etc. My s2000 has become my depth car, in that the more time goes by, the more I can appreciate and grow with the car--in driving skill and appreciation. I never got into a NSX back 08-09, at the prime of opportunity, so that ship has sailed for me. The Porsche GT4 seems to be the only car I may consider selling my S2000 for. But I know I will still miss the s2000. I think this means the s2000 will always be in my stable, just like your NSX.

Thanks for your perspective on a question I often ask myself, "Is it that good, or do I only think that because I don't have enough comparative context?". You have actually driven a decent cross section of performance cars, so to come full circle and still be impressed with an NSX is telling. Now I just need to finish putting mine back together so I can remind myself what it's like to drive, lol.
@Zygrene
@Zygrene 3 года назад
Many people find the NSX underwhelming compared to more modern stuff, but I think that has to do with focusing on the quantity of performance over the quality of the drive. Good luck with your build!

@LapoftheWorld

You should, but approach with an open mind about how you need to drive it. I had an SW20 for 15 years before (and for a year or two along side) my NSX. They are very different characters esp coming from a 'Turbo. I've had the NSX for 12 years now for reference. I miss the MR2 occasionally, but more as an option vs. one over the other.

I have an s2000 too and will keep it forever, it’s like part of who I am. I started driving an accord 93 with an F22a that I had forever. One day, bad head gasket at around 350k miles. Everyone said time for new car. Instead I dropped a Prelude H22a engine in it. I had to learn everything I know about cars I know today to make it happen. The car worked great but it got stolen. So then I got an s2000 which has an F22c engine like my original accord. The f22c is a highly modified H22a engine with Accord Type-R intake style system. So keeping my Honda s2000 is like cementing my personal life story.

Fact: I have your original video reviewing Hugo's NSX-R replica (back to back with yours) saved in a playlist and watch it at least once or twice a year when I need to remember...the sound. I revere that video. I always hoped, but never realistically expected a sequel. This is unreal ❤️❤️❤️

The Titec Exhaust - that's what it was on Hugo's old setup. The secret ingredient. The wow factor in that old video - but honestly I totally get it. I can understand hearing the Titec exhaust sound constantly would get old pretty quickly. But still - that sound was the drug that I kept going back to 😂

You're viewing it backwards Zygrene: Deciding to keep the car that makes you consistently feel the happiest emotion IS a logical, sound decision. One of the points to life is to attain happiness and be happy. We buy, build, drive, and own cars because they're rewarding, fun, engaging, stimulating, sexy, etc. - ALL of which brings us happiness. Thus, it is an objectively logical decision to simply keep the car that derives you the most happiness, satisfaction, and joy in your life, since that's what life is all about.

The grass isnt always greener on the other side. Best car Ive ever owned was a 94 civic w/ coilvers, body kit, skunk 2 intake manifold, skunk 2 headers, tanabe exhaust, custom tune, 17 in wheels on 205/35 pirelli tires, custom pedals, short shifter, and shift knob. Sold it for 9800 w/ 112,000 miles on it. Never had one problem other than a solenoid issue and i ran it to 7krpm all day. Ive never had another car that created the same sense of emotional and visceral response. Ive driven plenty that were faster - but none that were as fun. Closest is the Veloster N w/ PP which I have now. Some sentiments. Not about HP - but experience. Just like the NSX. -JE

It might make sense to sell your NSX, boat people feel amazing when boating but selling it is still the best day of their life.
