The NSX's were never cheap here in Australia, as a side by side 15 years ago you could import a good R34 GTR for the same money and most people did, there was a few rattling around in the 50's and 60k bracket but after that you're still paying supercar prices for basic parts anyway and a fairly limited (compared to say Nissan or Mitsubishi) aftermarket spares. There is some stuff out there for them but its in a whole other bracket compared to say your SR or RB engines and below what you pay for Euro spares from Porsche and Ferrari. But yeah, prices are going mental. I've got a late model, low milage GTO MR I bought 15 years ago which has been babied and mostly stock that I hung onto because its very rare and a bit weird, last I checked its worth twice what it cost to buy, import and comply locally. Don't really want to let it go, but the small part of my brain that tries to make financial sense is thinking that kind money could be used better elsewhere.
You can still get deals if you look in the right places. I got an R33 GTR rolling shell for 9k USD late last year. I had given up and was buying parts to build a tribute. One of the sellers happened to have a shell.
Got mines for 11k at a copart auction 10yrs ago, had a salvage title. Took it apart and cleaned everything before putting it back together. 2nd owner for this car, still inside my garage. The driving experience is just amazing, can't say enough about it. Never imagined it would go for so much now, I will keep mine for as long as I can.
@@NineSeptimsit needs a specialized jig that only Original Honda factory based in Japan (now gone) to align then weld / replace the extruded aluminum frame to make it right again. That special welding technique performed by highly Trained tech the toughest and the most $$$$ part. Good luck with that😂
I bought my NSX for $27,600 back in 2018 and I have no intentions of selling it. It’ll be in my family forever. Thanks for the extensive history lesson! And also thanks for helping the value go up even more! :)
If you aren't going to sell it then why care about the appreciation? If you want my opinion I think you should wait 10 years, keep it in as good condition as you can, and sell that thing for 200k minimum.
@@CockatooDudeI think he’s saying that he’s glad he was able to get an nsx for a cheap price. If he held off for a few years than he would be paying a lot more.
Same here. I remember looking at a nice NA1 for ~$35,000 over 10 years ago and though I can afford to buy it, but the ownership cost (insurance and such) would kill me and I’d be afraid to drive it as it should with the aluminum body. All the should have’s. It’s my halo car along with FD RX-7. Both are unattainable now.
@@hungdy No way insurance and ownership costs would kill you. Its a cheap car to own and drive. I bought my 1991 NSX 4 years ago for $35k. I daily it from march - septemper each year and I have spent a total of $1k on maintanence and insurance is $80 a month. Thats not a lot. Now Im on a classic cars insurance for $120 each year.
@@aoescool I hear ya, theres a 'moderately' damaged base model 03 s2000 going for 34k near me and there aren't even pics of it.. (a few years ago i coulda bought a clean 1st gen with 18k miles for $18k)
why? because if you talk like this people dont like it. You have to talk less and and stupid, then you are excepted and normal. Only few people like selective and detailed conversations. Its a shame...........
It’s worth mentioning that Honda/Acura was developing a V10 for an NSX some time in 2008 but was scrapped later by the bean counters at the time. Who knows how that would’ve turned out in today’s market. It would’ve been Honda’s ‘LFA’.
Well done video! I was lucky enough to find a GPW 2000 NSX-T in a barn last summer. Needed some maintenance and parts (after sitting for 2 years). Got it for a very good price and is back to 100% now. Beautiful car to own and drive!
Someone about to buy an NSX this week, you did a great job of summing up history and describing the situation today. Subbed and can’t wait to see more vids.
Great Video with great content!!! We are blessed to own a 1991 Black on Black. We have owned it for 19 years. It was my late husband's dream car. And i will keep it forever in his honor. I drive it to a lot now and get stares and thumbs up everywhere I go! It really is a headturner.
I'm wth you, Maria! I have my late husband's 1991 Red on Black and we got it in 2001, over twenty years ago. Wherever I drive it, people want to know what it is and when it's parked, I see them taking pictures. It is always fun to drive and I never want to sell it, it'd be like getting rid of all the memories of my life with him.
Really appreciate your work that goes into this awesome series! these videos and the Spotlight series from ISSIMI with Jason Camisa are like my bed time stories, keep replaying them Hope to see an RX-7 episode soon :)
your videos are all beautiful produced and edited i love them all. Seriously do not understand how you don’t have atleast half a mil, but keep these videos going and you’re for sure gonna get the recognition you deserve‼️🙏🏽
I truly appreciate you making this video!! I have owned 2 NSXs back to back since approx 2005. I sold my 91 Automatic with 89k and today own a 93 Manual with 114k. I learned more than I ever thought I knew thanks to your wonderful video. Thank you so much.
It's simple: there are less analog cars every year. New cars are getting bigger, heavier, less communicative and more detached from driving experience. And there is no hope for change. On the market, the only way to lower price is to offer competition. There is nothing produced right now that would match "analog sports car experience" known from cars of the past. However, there are more drivers than ever that miss these cars. Due to their preference or just curiosity of unknown. This is heaven for speculation and extravagant rich assholes (this is my only definition for someone keeping nsx not-driven for over 20 years) who just like to own rare stuff.
These are some of the most impressive, informative, and organized videos I've seen on RU-vid. I genuinely think I've learned more about this car than I would have if I did 2 weeks of my own research on the NSX. Can you do a video on some amazing JDM cars that are affordable? or not super expensive yet?...
Thanks for the video! Was an Acura Tech in the mid to late 90's and enjoyed the opportunities to service and drive the NSX. One of the best days (in 1994 or 95) when a client brought in a used NSX that he had just bought and said he didn't think it was "as fast as some of the others". He asked me to take it out and push it....as a 21 year old tech, (who drove a 1985 Accord 4 door) it didn't get much better than that!
I remember driving a Zanardi years ago. It was so raw and viceregal that I was shocked the person would sell it. Alas they needed that all mighty dollar and it sold to a fellow enthusiast. At least I got to see it once or twice a week for almost two years. 😮 I wonder where that car is now?
I love this video series. I own an r33 GTR. These 90s era Japanese cars were amazing, it’s just sad that the average joe car enthusiasts can’t afford their dream cars anymore.
Bro there is literally a NSX for sale in my small town in PA, with a price tag of 25,000, and many other JDM cars with reasonable price tags, don’t lose hope guys, you still have reasonable honest salesmen out here, you just have to travel to small rich towns, and stop going to hot spots like Miami, Jersey, and New York, focus on small unknown suburban towns, they always have sweet deals, I see them all the time.
had the the joy of owning a very low mileage NSX, 'had' I bought and sold before this well documented run, still the best car I have owned from having many. Great and informative video thank you
I remember testing driving an NSX years ago, it was listed for like $40k, not sure of the year ... but it held you in the seat like a glove and drove like it was on rails.
I love this kind of car. And hoping one of this day even not owning a car like this but just to drive in just a day will make my entire life passionate☝️. Thanks bro
It won't. 80's and 90's Japanese sports cars are now being treated as collectible assets similar to how some American and Italian sports cars from the 1960's are. These prices are going to keep going up until they reach the millions of dollars as these cars keep getting more rare and collectible, and people with a knack for making money keep treating them as appreciating assets.
i knew this was coming when i first started getting interested in cars around 2010, looking at hondas in canada, shame so many of them are really beat up and molested, clean examples with built motors and all the fixins you can fetch 6-7k for a 95-00 now and theyre garage babies ofcourse, and they get more rare by the minute it seems
Beautiful car. This and the Mid 90's RX7 were my dream cars. I test drove a RX7 back then. It was awesome! Now old with a family I settled for a Flex Twin Turbo lol. It grips and rips for a large wagon. Now to tune it :D
Now im sad the 90s dream cars are becoming unobtainium. Oh well, at least i still live to see these being driven by rich business owners who have no issues putting miles on them, like they should, at least where i live. So yeah, good job Albon.
It’s crazy how times have changed in 2009 I thought about buying a 1991 NSX from a place called Silver State Imports in Raleigh NC. I remember being on the fence about it because at the time they were asking 27k which for me was hard to justify at the time. The store owner actually let me take the car for 24 hours to entice me to buy it but for me it wasn’t enough power and I declined it. Had I known then what I know now lol. Also funny the place had a N/A M/T A80 for $9,900. I thought that was overpriced as well because I had just gotten back from Okinawa where 6sp RZ’s were going for that price and N/A cars were $1500.
I like these cars but after discovering so many under appreciate and underrated JDM I wanna thank JDM fans for overlooking them because without you guys I might not have been able to afford them.
The reason why the new ones didn't sell is because they didn't make them look anything like the older ones. They should have made a modern looking version of the older ones. Also they should have Kept it Rear wheel drive
The new ones didn't sell for the same reason the old ones didn't sell....for that kind of money you could buy the Italian and German Exotics that have the pedigree.
Modern sports cars just don’t really sell. I have seen two new Supra’s on the road, a single new Z4, two new NSX’s. Hell I’ve seen more pre-2010 Audi R8’s driving around than any sports car built in the last few years. The only ones that really seem to sell in numbers aren’t even really fast sports cars, like the BRZ.
@@centuryhelix8727 I think that's a bit anecdotal, you can't judge a whole industry by what you see around where you live, if you look up official statistics on sports car sales you would see that sports cars do sell, A LOT--- Some sell more, some sell less. The question you have to ask yourself is why does the NSX sells 128 cars in 2020 while the Corvette sold 21,000 cars in 2020.
Yesterday I’m down town Los Gatos California, I saw an original 92 NSX-R under 10k miles with the interior absolutely mint, the aura it gave off... just sheesh, only now do I realize how lucky I was to see it in person
This is an excellent video, and you guys are providing high-quality, well-researched content about the NSX. The best presentation I've seen about this wonderful car. Thanks!
That's false. I've been finding some for below 50k. The '96-'05 ones are the expensive ones Edit: I found a jdm nsx for 35K! THATS INSANE AND I WANT IT
I was talking to my brother about the NSX, "get some of that retirement money out and enjoy it". Bought a pristine '91 with 48K miles back in 2013 for 32K. The original owner paid 83K (20 K over list). Glad I listened to my brother. A couple years ago I was getting on the expressway and I was into 3rd pretty deep , 85/90 mph. Looked behind me, yep the police. He followed me a couple miles then pulled beside me and gave a thumbs up. Car guy
I just found this channel and watched like 4 videos now and subscribed. I was HUGE into Gran Turismo and now sim racing and all the time playing these games I think how I'll never get to drive these cars for real, and then your channel comes in my suggested feed to tell me "Yep, and this is why." XD
@@Hector55Munoz Nice, that sounds amazing, I have a 996 right now, bought it about 7 months ago, but my dream bikes is the Ducati Diavel 1260 and the Suzuki Katana 1100
I just found you channel and I LOVE these videos man, your research is amazing. My automotive vice is the second gen Mazda MX6. I love them dearly and I know I'll end up buying many many more than the 1 I have now. I'm curious if you have any tips or resources for the cataloguing you do, finding numbers for cars delivered down to the paint job. It's really impressive stuff and I'm hoping there are some magic websites you use that have great details on sales figures of old cars and the such. If you're doing everything yourself holy f**k man you're an absolute legend, and regardless keep up the incredible work!!
Do a video on the Toyota MR2! Prices have been going up like crazy for clean examples, but they're still affordable; lots of high dollar auctions on BaT. I loved the layout and flow of this video so much I instantly subbed. I hope you continue this series with other JDM cars and thanks for the content! -JDM 93 Turbo MR2
Prices were on the rise for NA1/2 since before 2015, at least 2 years beforehand, which is 3 years before the new NSX. It has little to do with the new NSX ,IMO, and more to do with the JDM panic buying trend started by RU-vidrs telling you "why you need to buy an NSX right now!" tipping off flippers on which car to inflate next. That, and the Bring a Trailer plague that was starting to infect peoples minds since 2010. Enjoy your $100,000 NA1/2 I guess, I know a lot of better cars for the money.
These are the videos that get me through dental school. Am I gonna have hella debt? Of course. But one day, I'm gonna own one of these legends. mark my words
My wife drives a 2020 Honda NSX, white with black carbon wheels, it a fantastic car to drive as well as a lot of fun. I personally have a white Polestar 1, which is a hybrid sedan that makes almost 600 Bhp, Polestar is a division of Volvo that is similar to Mercedes AMG or BMW’s M series. I highly recommend this car, in fact I would buy it over the M4 Competition as it’s not only better made but faster, there is even a EV mode of over 50 miles for those who commute locally to work, saving on expensive gas prices that is currently destroying the auto industry.
NSX, a supercar that beat Ferrarri doubled its price tag with less the horsepower and anything from that era, a supercar that was designed to be driven and put miles and miles on them and bring drivers joy on daily basis and succeeded, sometimes got stored in a temperature controlled garage and probly seen less than 1000 hours of sunlight, and then got sold to some rich people that will store it for the rest 99.99% of its life time and sold for higher profit. If that's not a tragedy, I don't know what is.
@@spoolinhonda, nope, just some dumb rich guy who had backed his trucks hitch into the emblem and thought bc of that the car was ruined. Right place at the right time with enough cash, BOOM, NSX title and keys in hand while i’m in the driver seat taking it back to my shop :D
I worked for Acura from 89 to 2000 and I drove the first one on the ground in 1990 number 61 red with black leather stick and we got a second one Red with ivory Auto they came in a closed trailer and stuff they were insane had the chocks in the springs so it could get off the truck I'm telling you driving that thing is a whole different world and it's not about the straight line acceleration
Some good nuggets in here I did not know about like the engine tilt. Love these videos. RX7, Celica GT Four, And GT86 you could do so many of these. Wish Honda would make some more RWD cars think New NSX bit too safe with its AWD (I do want one after GR Supra though if forced to go hybrid).
I didn't know they're so rare! Cool When I went to high school in the nineties I worked at a Honda dealership over the summer. One day a sales guy came up to me and asked "Would you like to take the NSX for a spin?" I had just got my license. One of the best days of my life...
It's always the same with collector cars. Someone starts to get decent money for either a low mileage or special edition car and the less desirable versions/higher mileage cars get dragged along into the higher price ranges until no average enthusiast can afford them anymore.
Since many NSX people may see this, I want to warn you all about one I used to drive. In 2001 I met a Japanese dentist in Dallas who I was very good friends with. She always had me drive her NSX. It was a high-mileage car with EXTENSIVE body damage. If I remember correctly, she bought the ‘92 or ‘93 car new and drove the dog out of it. I think it had around 80,000 when I first drove it, and about 120,000 the last time I saw her. She is a brilliant woman who is very interesting, but her car was beat to hell. I’m talking THRASHED. If you see a black on black high mileage car from Dallas, buyer beware. I think the most anyone would give for it was $12k when she had me shop it around 2003ish. I drive 911 Turbos mainly, but also have new Ferraris and McLarens, so I know the market. Good luck shopping! I just don’t want any of you to see this car for sale and think you can make it ok. This car was beat to shit. Every body panel had dents and it was so rough that I was actually nervous driving it, because I just knew that Johnny Law was going to pull me over...
The internet needs to stop making every car that I want a collector's item. I see listings trying to sell non turbo, sub 100k porsche 944s for the same price as 2005 Cayman's with the same miles.
Every decade has its classics... In mid 2000s we never imagined that Japanese sports cars will be the classics of the 90s. Even on top gear when Richard Hammond was talking about future classics, he mentioned 190E cosworth, VW Corrado vr6, but he somehow absolutely missed out the big-3, the 3 cars that will be fetching dollars more than 190E 2.5 cosworth.... Today in 2021 I'm warning tou guys about Lancer evolution 8,9 & 10, now is the time to buy them.
"A car that's easy and simple to drive" -Bunta, 2004 I probably should have saved this for the Impreza video if he makes one, but it works for Keiichi Tsuchiya's description of the new NSX.
Excellent video. Honda is a special company and you can get a glimpse of why people buy them in this documentary. I had 2 Civics and always liked them!
