The FD2R was also officially sold in Malaysia aside from Japan. How come you didn't mention about the issue of the sagging roof lining in this car which plagues the FD2R.
That is an issue that 8th generation civic owners will have to get fixed eventually. It is not that expensive to replace. A vehicle upholstery company can fix it for you. I had mine replaced with black headliner to match the rest of the interior of the car.
I was about to comment the same thing. Appreciation for the FN2 is on the rise lately, but it copped so much flak upon launch - mostly from people who never drove one and just parroted that Top Gear review from a disgruntled JC.
My brother and I own a non type R fd, with a K20Z2 automatic (we always drive it at sport mode for the paddle shifters), and its just a really great car, if anyone is having second thoughts about getting one, esepcially an OG JDM Type R, you should go definitely get one, Clay explain why they were good, and Im here to tell you that the FD platform in general is just great overall, I have mine with just the stock K20Z2, coilovers, wheels and tires, along with the type R body kit (No front chin) and it's already amazing at driving the hills. You cant go wrong with an FD, its really a great win for JDM!
Yeh i think the FD2 platform is pretty cool too👌🏼I’ve got one but swapped out the K20Z2/5speed for a K24A3/6speed with all the good bolt-ons along with suspension/brake upgrades. Going supercharged very soon but keeping the body stealth, gotta love a sleeper 😴 ✔️
Excellent work Clay you can’t go wrong with a FD2 CTR. I was actually cross shopping between a FD2 and DC5 but ultimately went with the DC5 because of the rarity and a good FD2 CTR was the same price that +2011 ISFs were going for. Love the videos and all your content. When the country opens definitely come visit us in Tokyo man we’ll show you around and it would be pretty legendary to hit the weight room with you once
I also own a DC5 Type-R and just like Clay, I am willing to swallow the fact that my car is a bit inferior performance-wise to the FD2 in favor of the DC5's much better looks.
I had a choice to go with a FD2R or DC5R. But ultimately went with DC5R, the fd2r is really good car and i have setup a few, but it doesn't have that engagement/rawness with the playfulness that the DC5R has. It is so capable the car almost feels numb. Ultimately these cars are meant to put a smile on your face. Outright performance isn't the main thing and it was the DC5R that put the bigger smile on my face. (Obviously the looks too)
Ps: My DC5R has some engine stuff done, 5.1 gearing and the RRC intake manifold. Maybe that help the car become more engaging too. And i come from Singapore. We have a ton of these fd2r ard but like 10 or so dc5r left lol
Amazing car and content bro. Can you do a tour and ride of the basic FD? Would be amazing to see the R16/R18 engine in action. Kinda underated imo when it comes to practicality

He missed a point in the beginning saying this was was a Japan exclusive, I'm sure these models sold in Malaysia are going for big $$ now in the used market
@@kos5120 is not exactly the same motor although it is a k20a2 platform. It has a balancing shaft inside the engine as well as a different gear box. That’s why it is called a euro r instead of type r. Euro r is a nice car with better comfort and interior space.
The Accord Euro-Rs weren't true Type-R cars, that's why they didn't get that distinction, they were made to be really sporty on-road sports cars, while the Type-Rs are designed to be track focused vehicles.
Truly love this car. If I hadn't found my personal favourite, the UK Accord Type R, this is the one I would have gone for. Speaking of which, the FD2 isn't the only sedan Type R ever created 😊

Bruh for the same price you buy that civic, you can buy a skyline and and it will have more potential than the civic, I know because I used to own one before and I thought it was fast af😂
@@TheErik1119 people that say overrated and overpriced are usually the ones that don’t have them and know they will never have them, I know because I was there once, driving all types of different Honda’s, EG, EJ, EM, and even the FD2, but it was until I bought a GC8 WRX and experienced a turbo then I know I will never go back to a NA, my mate spent the same amount of money I spent to dyno tune FBO my FD2 and he ended up making 400hp and I’m still making just 240hp, until your sitting there driving and getting all the attention you will never know what it’s like
@@TheErik1119 you wanna talk about over priced, let’s talk about those idiots selling their NA Honda’s for $22k, I’m not speaking from no experience but this after my friends and myself became woke and sold our Honda’s for real cars, last night I saw a guy out for sale a EM1 civic with the B16 motor going for $15k, that thing is worth $6k if anything, it’s ridiculous, you can get a 350z for that price and still beat a lot of top player cars

@@Yuaaaur u can easily make 400hp or maybe 500 with good eternals on a d series if u went turbo for ej and eg. Nothing wrong with skylines I wouldn’t mind paying 30k for a skyline but to say that Na isn’t a real car yeah nah . There is a reason why Honda’s are so popular lol . If u really wanted to build a good Honda u could . 6k is the most I would pay and I Still wouldn’t pay 6k . 5500 or so is my max . It was a lot cheaper for used cars a year ago. 4000 for a decent civic a year ago and another 5k in good internals/parts and turbo u would be flying if u really wanted too.
