Ok so Episode 6 was billed as being the big moment in The Boys Season 3 where we'd finally see big things go down. If you've read the comics you'll know it's a major arc in that which shows all the sadistic stuff that the supes get up to when they're not posing for the cameras. Even people who hadn't read the comics I think will likely have had it hyped up for them beforehand due to the word having Orgasm in it and the buzz on social media being centred around it. Eric Kripke had done several interviews about it in the build up to the event and though it was a big part of the episode, I think that the fight scene being the thing that people talk about shows how much it overshadowed everything else.
The three Seasons had built up to the battle between Butcher and Homelander and throughout this entry we watched as he tracked down the quote unquote secret weapon that was capable of killing him.
This was revealed to be Soldier Boy, a captain America parody who himself had been suped up wth BCL Red. This was capable of killing the supes and it finally seemed like Hughie and Butcher had a chance of taking down the worst of them.
Now add to this the idea of Compound V24, a drug that had the capabilities of giving someone superpowers for a short time.
With this lethal cocktail of the two elements it really felt like the playing field was finally leveled and that Homelander would have a chance of being beaten once and for all.
Now this is given greater depth by the way that the scene itself is set up.
The entire event climaxes...ey with Soldier Boy unleashing his chest laser which kills countless Supes and that ones that survive are left badly burnt down to the balls. Looking at you Love Sausage.
We then follow this up with the moment in which A-train drags Blue Hawk worse than I drag Ryan Arey and it leaves the idea implanted in your mind that there's actually a way to defeat the Supes. Never before have we seen so many of them taken out and it subconsciously givs the idea that Homelander has met his match. I listen to a lot of podcasts when I'm not at work and when the team at Kinda Funny were reviewing this episode they said that it very much felt like a season finale.
I completely agree and this feels like it could end off the entry with a big final battle between the two sides. The battle itself takes place amongst the ruins of the party which makes it appear as a battleground which we already know many Supes have died at.
Now in order for the stakes to be high we also need to see the enemy as as much of a threat as the rest of the characters do.

@@thetruthwillout9094 There is no hard proof for this but there is a good chance they might make season 4 the last season based on how many arcs from the comics they've already shown and what they have built up in the series. However, that won't necessarily be where it ends. The original writer of the comics wrote "Dear Beccy" as a response to the show, its basically a prequel and a prologue to the comics simultaneously. If you've watched El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie, the boys might do something similar with Dear Beccy.

It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if the whole series ended with Homelander winning and defeating everyone. He is such a complicated character with so much depth. He longs to be loved but really doesn’t know what real love is. Everyone who created him and raised him absolutely failed him. The writers do a good job of making me feel for him at times and Starr is a fantastic actor.

There's something to be said for Butcher and Homelander's relationship. As much as they hate each other, the writing does a good job of showing that something in homelander actually appreciates that he can be 100% himself around butcher. Butcher isn't a sniveling underling or the judgemental public. They see each other for what they are. Tough to write that well without just having one of them come out and say it .

How strong? If this scene showed anything, it was how overpowered he was thought to be. I mean in the first 2 seasons, he is portrayed almost like a god like figure. His son, Ryan, using his laser eyes for the very first time basically reduced Stormfront, a very powerful Supe, to a roasted, limbless worm. And here we can see Butcher, who only had a temp V, holding his own in a fist and laser eye fight against Homelander. WTF? Look at the way Homelander killed Noir. One punch and he went right through him. And that should be the case against Butcher and pretty much the rest, with the exception of Soldier Boy. But no, for the sake of coolness, they made Homelander actually struggle against inferior opponents...

Also, this is the first time we've seen Homelander struggle ever, and it was against two suprise temp supes (keep in mind temp V could be as strong or as weak as the writers need it to be, what with BIlly becoming a almost-homelander and Hughie being a teleporting nude dude), and SoldierBoy, the literal 'big guy' before Homelander came along. Tl:Dr: Homelander was caught by total surprise and most likely wont be caught off guard again. They missed their chance by not pulling off the kill.

So everyone knows how the rule for filmmaking kinda goes like, “The main character can’t die, it’s the main character! (if there is one)” Unless the main character dies near the end starting the end of the show/film. And I love that with this show, because it does feel like the main character isn’t Hughey, Butcher or Starlight. It’s Homelander. All of “The Boys” can die at any time and the show will go on. But without Homelander, it’s over, no matter how much we want him to lose and get defeated. (Haven’t read the comics but that’s my take on the show)

Only thing that really saved him was his enhanced durability. Ten bucks says that if they didn't focus their plan solely on locking HL down long enough for SB to blast him and just straight up beat the shit out of him like Kimiko, Mave and Annie did to stormfronts. One thing I just realised with the termite being crushed scene. With Homelanders senses there is no way he didnt hear termites cries for help. Homelander chose to ignore them and kill him likely because his cries were annoying the man.

Finale wasn't a massive spectacle, but it had amazing character growth and writing. Butcher: Saved Ryan in the face of killing Homelander Soldier Boy: reverted back to they way his dad raised him, called Homelander a disappointment. Hughie: Chose to trust starlight instead of taking compound v. Frenchie: Chose to stand up for himself. MM: forgave the boys Kimiko: Learned to use V to protect the ones she loved Maeve: instead of fighting Homelander, chose to take the bullet to save others. Kinda goated

I can confidently say that I whole heartedly love this whole season in general. The only I can describe it is the ultimate crossfire. Between literally everyone. Everybody is fighting everyone including themselves. If you think about it there's not one character in this series that doesnt have an internal conflict. I'll give 2 straight up (at the risk of this comment being too long not lack of examples) butcher: fighting himself between killing homelander while also trying to keep Ryan safe because he promised becca, getting justice and closure for hughie because he reminds him of his brother but also being Conflicted on letting him take temp v because he knows that its killing him and can see history repeating its self and homelander trying to be as least human, and strongest and most powerful and ruthless man on the planet but at the same time growing love and affection for his son which is about as human as you get and there's plenty more examples where he's showed more human nature throughout the series now imagine everybody having there internal conflicts and to Combat that they're blowing eachother to pieces. Everybody has ties to everybody meaning everybody gets caught in the cross fire and its not like homelander and butcher don't have other internal conflicts on top of that and also the way they left it open for series 4 is so fucking sick I can't even comprehend it In summary I fucking love this show.

Kiwi Antony Starr doesn't get enough credit for the remarkable performance he turns in every season. There's not a single scene where he's not required to simultaneously express layers of emotions and complexity -- funny, scary, broken, it's all there in every moment he's on screen.

Something that always stuck with me about the scene is that when the three supes are holding Homelander down and he struggles to get back up, he unleashes this guttural shout of his absolute best effort to break free and only just barely manages to get the fuck out of dodge. The shout is probably the first time in his life he's had to absolutely exert every ounce of his strength to its fullest just to escape. He goes from being untouchable top dog to having to push himself to his absolute limit just to break free. Dude was probably all sorts of terrified and uncertain for the first time in his life. It also showcases just how incredibly useful and overpowered the power of flight is, when you're one of only very few supes to have it. In the comics, many of the heroes could fly. But on this show, it's a pretty rare power to have and I love that it shows that. As soon as Homelander just decides to fly off and get out of there, there's not a damn thing any of them can do to stop him, even with a supe on their side that can teleport people. Being able to fly gives you an entire dimension to fight (or run) in that the others just don't have any access to.

Not sure if the writers are trying to parody the Sergei and Yulia Skripal assassinations where Novichok was stored in a similar perfume bottle to the Starlight Wish one in the show, and the intended target unintentionally passed the nerve agent to the victims, which could be where the show is heading next? There's a possibility the show delves into US and Russian international tension, where Vought blamed Russia for releasing Soldier Boy and Russia denied all claims at the very end of Season 3 in the headlines.

one thing i haven't seen anyone remark about is the fact that soldier boy is considerably stronger in S3E8 than during the fight in S3E6. i think that is because in S3E6 he had to fight right after releasing a ton of energy

Glad you want to take on the Theory of Noir coming back. Its something I believe will happen, since Soldierboy seemingly killed him but survived and now Homelander too. Surviving Homelander's attack would not only make Noir deal with a half broken brain and now half broken body, but a huge arc off "I get knocked down, but I get up again"

Homelander is hands down the best villain we have seen in over a decade. He just makes you hate him so much you end up loving him for that and I cant say enough about Anthony Starr's performance. Its top tier. During that scene I can tell you I was jumping up and down like a child on Christmas that got just what they asked for.

I think Soldier Boy has DID and passed it to Homelander.He seems to black out a lot. But whenever he says he blacked out for something, we see that visually, he didn't black out. When he was sent to Russia, he claims not to remember the fight. But he wasn't drugged until after..... When the house blew, it was soldier boy but he says "what happened". He makes that comment about not being a bad guy, and he seems alright at times. But he turns into a truly disturbing monster, darker than even Homelander, on other occasions. That Noir beating... he has DID and Homelander inherited it.

This season was fantastic! And yes, this scene in particular was amazing! The fact that we arrived at a point where maybe, just maybe someone could stand up to Homelander was worth the wait alone. Genuinely hope we get a rematch down the line, one which gives us a clear winner once and for all.

I think one really big factor that drives this scene is that we had yet to see homelander's strength and power tested. He never had to fight someone as strong as soldier boy, let alone buffed by the boys. It was so epic through and through 👏👏
