I pointed out that it was an MLB oversight to not have the Mets play at home on 9/11. But someone else pointed out that in the 9th, the Mets brought 11 men to the plate.

Tbh I won’t even be that mad if we don’t make playoffs we weren’t even expecting to be that good at the start of the year but players stepped up, hopefully we will be even better next year with a good signing in off season

I’m a Mets fan. No, they have no real sexy names. But they do the following well: -They punish teams that make mistakes on them. Whether it’s a home run or key hit, they capitalize on opposing teams errors. -They do the little things. Cutting off balls in the outfield, aggressively taking extra bases, patient AB’s. This wears on a team over the course of a game. -They stay in games. They’re never really out of a game, for the most part. If you keep them around they’ll eventually break through. Through it all they’ve got a nice rotation and a bullpen that’s undergone more changes than Lady Macbeth, but that’s a credit to their front office not being complacent with the team and a manager willing to go with the flow. Let’s not forget the manager too. There’s been several chances for the team to implode this season (starting the season losing five straight right out of the gate, the Jorge Lopez glove incident), but he’s kept everybody at even keel and allowed everybody to relax and have fun. All that said, let’s go Mets!

The Mets won this for the victims of 9/11. Something just clicked after that Lindor final at-bat. Overall, we went from 11 games under .500, to 14 games over .500 and in a Wild Card race.

This analysis is spot on. I’ve been a Mets fan since 1969. I was 7 y/o at the time and remember that team, the season, and the WS well. I then remained a loyal fan through some awful teams in the 70s and at the start of the 80s. Then came 83-86, and I was insane with the Mets. Then it all started to unravel, and although they made some noise here and there, and had some big names on their roster since 86, it just wasn’t the same. The excitement was gone. The fan in me became jaded. I didn’t really identify with them anymore, and finally divorced myself from them. The magic was gone. I haven’t followed the Mets in at least 6 or 7 years. I knew of Alonso, but that’s it. I didn’t start watching or paying attention until the double header against the Braves. A win and the Mets were in. I didn’t watch it live, I just watched the highlights after they won game 1 and were in. I was impressed with that come from behind win. None of the names were familiar to me. I did the same against the brewers, didn’t watch anything live, just the highlights. Being a bit superstitious, I continued to do the same and here I am today. I’ve been looking for all things Mets 2024 and learned about Grimace and OMG, and became familiar with the roster. Now I feel like I know of most of them, checking their stats and bios, and realized that this team has no real big names or super stars like teams of the past, and after a horrible 1st half, had a pretty damn solid 2nd half by playing good ball, smart ball, and not trying to do too much. They work with what presents itself at the time. They seem to play good defense, and pass the baton on offense. The past two weeks has shown me this team has something special brewing. They don’t give up. They’re relentless and there is no quit. Since the Braves series, they’ve done all this on the road. I remember how Shea used to rock. I was a mini night plan season ticket holder since 82 and was there for all 86 post season home games. I remember the electricity in that stadium, the love that was mutual between the fans and players, and never thought I’d see that or feel that again, but the 2024 Mets just might be the start of something amazing for Mets fans. I don’t know if they will advance past the Phillies or whichever team is next, but this feels an awful lot like 1983. So close, just a player or two away from a once in a lifetime team, which is what the 86 Mets were to me. I see a lot of similarities but it’s the team/fan experience that makes it special and meaningful. I’m not all in, yet, but it’s nice to feel what I’m feeling again. It’s like a long lost love is at the brink of coming back in my life. I don’t know where this is going, once bitten twice shy, but this is a fun team to watch and see how they win games. I think 6 runs were scored yesterday, all on 2 outs. That is productive.

Been a Met fan since 1969. I had my share of bad teams and put up with some lousy baseball, but loved and rooted for them anyway. I would much rather a team like this, than one with several underachieving “superstars” who lacked fire and passion.

If the Mets defeat the Phillies and Braves and whoever is left on the Mets schedule....THEN I'll say that the Mets are magical. I followed this team TOO long to know that more times than not...they have disappointed. P.S.: NOW would be a good time for Alonso to make like Mike Piazza and carry this team.

The only good thing about the mets this far is that they won't give up, and that 0-2 cookie down the middle to Lindor, I am a huge mets fan but I have to say it better being lucky than good.

I think the Mets illustrate how now days a manager has much less influence on how well the players play. Because players won't adhere to a team identity with each having a role and playing strategic as a cohesive team no coach can change the culture or even gets enough time to do so. Why the Mets would win with this manager I do not know

Of you really watch the Mets you would say that Ventos is having a strong year, Manaea is having a great year. They have pop and they play well together. Also look Peterson, yr, Severino, and they are doing this without Kodi Senga. Not to mention they didn't have Ronnie Mauricio all yr this is a good team that took time Gelling

As a jays fan Bowden Francis is one of the few bright spots on this team. They got some good potential for the lineup next year but as for now I like to see Bowden get his kudos

The Mets payroll has $70m of dead salary paid to players no longer on the team, so it's not really accurate. If ytou just look at salaries for guys on the Mets roster, it's nowhere near as high.

What's magical is that a team made on inside trading money and the highest payroll in MLB finally starts looking like a wildcard playoff team

Reminder that this was supposed to be a rebuild season. It wasn’t supposed to be a run for the postseason as the Mets just got rid of all their big pitchers last season.

Is this the Mets best winning team? No. But this team has had one of the wackiest, craziest seasons I've ever seen. For starters, the Mets started 0-5, and it took a sixth game before they got a win. Everyone had them settled in their slot of not making it to the playoffs and a meh season. The rotation was not doing well, Edwin Diaz was horrible, and the offense couldn't do anything. Then they had an absolutely terrible May that dealt major damage to a chance for playoffs. Everyone overlooked them, according to them this was the end of the Mets 2024 season. And then Grimace arrived and the Mets played the best baseball I've ever seen them play. They started winning.....like a lot. Suddenly, Grimace took over Citi Field. Edwin Diaz actually was doing pretty okay. Sean Manaea became the Mets best pitcher on the rotation. Mark Vientos shot up like a rocket and became one of the Mets best player. Jose Iglesias literally became a superstar and invented the 2024 Mets national anthem in 'OMG'. No base stealer is safe from the arm of Luis Torrens. And the best part of all, is Lindor might have a chance to be MVP. (comment any others I might have missed) So how's it going for the team that everyone said would never make the playoffs? It's going *amazin*

Okay im sorry but this proves nothing for the mets. As you said and as we saw, the mets had practically 0 offense until the 9th and everyone finally started to hit the ball. The pitcher was playing some all star baseball until he didnt, prob because he was a little tired after pitching FOR THE ENTIRE GAME. Just because a team can come back to win in the top of the 9th doesnt mean they are MaGiCal…… the mets literally rely on one maybe two guys to keep the offense up and if they get hurt, its ggs. The only real reason the mets are in the picture is because the braves literally lost more than half of their lineup to injury and the nl kinda fell apart except for select teams. That type of team is slighty magical and not worthy of a playoff spot. Sure they won some games but he literally showcased how theyve been doing it all season. Yes im a braves fan so i will admit bias when i see it, so braves v mets best of 3 in a week or two will decide it all.
