Having been in the psychiatric system myself, as a patient, and having concluded that it didn't do anything positive for me, I had to figure out that psychiatry is, unfortunately, still in a state of utter primitivism. There's no interest in root causes, or someone's background and history. Just swallow a handful of nerve poisons, and you'll be all right again after some time. I've been following doctor Josef for quite some time now. He is a breath of fresh air within a corrupted and mentally sick system. Luckily there are more psychiatrists who are open-minded and really interested in bettering the situation of their patients. This gives me hope, but psychiatry still has got a long way to go in order to become a viable treatment option for people in mental distress. This interview is gold for me. Thanks, from the bottom of my heart, and please keep up the good work!
Now, this is what every single doctor needs to do! STOP PRESCRIBING POSION TO MAKE MONEY! IF not they need to be held accountable for committing crimes against humanity and forced to take the meds they prescribed for as long as they prescribed them.
Also need to stop cutting people off meds , nerves get used to the meds , greatly ruins quality of life without them for some people. Some people don’t heal they just live with it best they can. Some people are too poor , brain damaged , and oppressed to even ever get compensation.
Being strict keto/carnivore past 9 months has taken my depression anxiety away! I am able to consistently taper with no side effects. It’s so worth it!
Amazing interview! I wish I had listened to this when my son was first diagnosed. But I'm so glad to have the information now. It's a beacon of light in the long dark dank tunnel that is psychiatric care
Just think of all the suffering that has been caused due to not considering diet and nutrition. The question is not why diet would be important for mental health. The question is why wouldn’t it. I went to psychiatrist for 18 years. Never asked about diet or even considered it. I’m very angry about all I went through because of his ignorance. I had to learn by myself.
I started on a ketogenic diet during a really difficult time, where after 10 years I dropped from taking 6mg alprazolam to 1mg alprazolam and though I didn't have any side effects for the first 2 weeks, I was not ready for the barrage of side effects, both psychological and physical that my body and mind would go through. As well as losing weight extremely fast, I found myself living in a hyper manic state, which was often followed by a depressed state, though the mania seemed much more prominent and last for longer. It took 7 months before the ups and downs starting evening out, and now I am on just 0.25 mg, I still have ocasional anxiety attacks, but I am able to work again and actually be in social surroundings without freaking out anymore... I'm writing something about the whole experience... It seems I'm absolutely not alone in this experience, so who knows, maybe it can help someone...
Please don't rule out using keto/carnivore to treat Akathisia and severe psych med damage. We need help more than anyone and it sounds like in this interview we are cast aside in the too hard basket pretty quickly. The information in this video is extremely important and I thank you for getting it out there.
I started getting addicted to eating at coffee shops and drinking coffee and not cooking at home, then took lexapro and it was the last straw - I became manic like and then when I stopped I got rage and inappropriate behavior which ruined my life.
This sounds like something that could be the answer for a number of people psychiatrically diagnosed. It only makes sense to look at the foods people eat and drink as excesses of sugar, caffeine and alcohol are known to affect insulin levels which in turn affect moods and even people's cognitive abilities. I however am on the opposite end of the dietary spectrum meaning that eating a good amount of carbs from grains lifts my mood and calms feelings of anxiety, most likely due to the fact that carbs help produce serotonin and tryptophan. Discoveries are great, but it's important to remember that one size does not fit all.
Please thoroughly address the real issue of Keto increasing cortisol levels making it impossible to sleep for someone already off balance cortisol wise because of neuro injury. Thanks. I want to continue Keto but cannot manage not sleeping at all.
I don't know if trying keto when you're in withdrawal is the best thing to be honest. Just my opinion. I'm protracted 17 months and our hormones are out of whack. I would just focus on eating healthy foods that you can of course.
I really cut down on carbs and increased RAW organic sauerkraut and started taking UNFORTIFIED nutritional yeast and Vitamin b12 as well as 30K vitamin D per day and I have not had a panic attack sine 2015. I was having about 7 or 8 per year for about 40 years before that. I am also now basically vegan.
At 23:55 she mistakenly calls glyphosate a pesticide, its qn herbicide. I would call it a minor mistake, but the reason why it is used is such a strong amount is to standardize the harvest of the crop. Apparently they think its a good idea to stress the plants at the same time to make harvesting easier by putting posion on it right before harvest. An herbicide is for plants, pesticide is for insects...
24:28 autism isn't one specific thing tho. its a label applied to anyone whos neurotype or functioning falls outside the narrow window of of whats considered "normal human behavior and cognition". certainly tho toxins and meds can further exacerbate dysregulation leading to a condition/funtional state that can be labled as "autism" . But 'autism" itself isn't rising. those of us with broader neurotypes have always existed. and many of us are made less functional by all these situational exposures tho.
A lot of people in the system for long term do not have money for healthy foods. They might be on Disability or unable to work. Post ideas for those who eat well on low funds. One key---Single foods. No processed foods. Fish. Veggies, eggs. Zero seed oils. Please post your own.
With this ketogenic diet help someone who is in severe protracted, benzo withdrawal. I have been bedridden for almost 3 years with mostly physical neurological pain problems.
The best way to go is a very cautious 10% per month reduction of the current dose, so that your reductions become smaller and smaller, resulting in an exponential taper. Only taper 1 drug at a time.
I'm actually starting the opposite, which is plant based. Not quite there yet, but on my way. I do think sugar and processed are the worst things for us. No carnivore diet for me though. Not only for *my health, but for the life of animals, which is very important to me, esp the more I now know. I do strongly agree with diet vs drugs.
You can do a ketogenic plant based diet. Hannah at Metabolic Mind has eliminated all her Bipolar symptoms doing that. It's harder to do than an omnivore or carnivore version, but it is possible.
She reveals that it was HER DOG that made her think about things. Not her patients from that 20 years. Did she mention one specific patient? If she did I missed it. I only heard about her dog.
If it never occurred to her for that 20 years that she was doing massive damage what kind of insights do you think she will have now? Why would anyone want to work with a thoughtless doctor who remains oblivious for 20 years. She is clearly incapable of insight unless its spoon fed to her.
I don't have a mental health condition but i was surprised, if not disheartened that when i had arthritic flare ups I also became rather depressed during them. Yes it is a good idea to research one's own health conditions, I looked into hearbal remedies and found nettle a good match for my overall health not just the arthritis. The flare ups are much less severe, but curiously they seem to be getting replaced with tiredness. Also I'm not feeling depressed but instead a little spaced out and forgetful. Could inflammatory conditions be suppressed depression I wonder. Incidentally i do have things to be unhappy about. I am definitely of the oppinion that poor emotional health leads to poor physical health rather than the other way around. But i can see why the dietary change helps some people, maybe they were in a depression or whatever for so long they forgot why they were depressed.
i don't know. Look up the Mediterranean diet too, it's much less extreme. There is a write up on it by Harvard & how it helps mental health. I really prefer spending money on olives, avocados, and fish (fatty omegas) as well as black pepper (which works on the endocannoboid system) rather than prescription drugs. I used to have a roommate who used a ton of pepper and now i see why. Good luck & i hope you find something that works for you!
@@snowps1 I don't know if ketosis is "extreme," but it's definitely hard to maintain long term. Ketones/ketosis is a literal hammer and a powerful intervention, but it must be done properly and with care. Taking blood tests to ensure your ketones are in the proper range is essential to ensure you're doing the diet properly. Don't take on ketosis lightly and just thinking cutting carbs some will get the job done. Nothing wrong with Mediterranean like Somegenerichandle said, but ketosis is unique and unlike other dietary interventions. Anyone who is really suffering with legitimate mental illness is more likely to get a response from ketosis than the Mediterranean.
Thanks for this video. Watching it now. When I heal from protracted withdrawal and can eat what I want again, I plan on doing meat, fruits and vegetables first. Then meat and fruit and then just meat. Depending on how I feel in each. I currently eat fine but I do have grains and rice and legumes in my diet. So I want to see what will happen if I try paleo and or carnivore.
Yes, carnivore is an animal based, species specific way of eating so meat, fish, eggs, dairy if tolerated, salt and good fat which is essential fuel for the brain. We don't need fibre... that's another myth. Minerals can need supplementing; that depends on the individual. There are small amounts of vitamin C in animal foods that research (O'Hearn) says is sufficient for our needs. Dr Georgia Ede is another (metabolic) psychiatrist who has written about these and other ways of eating to support mental health.
It’s hard to believe at first, since we’ve all been programmed how important fruit and vegetables are, but all the vitamins and minerals we need are found in animals products. All animal proteins contain all essential amino acids in the ratios we need (plants mostly don’t contain all essential amino acids and even when they do the ratios aren’t idea) Vitamins and minerals in plants are often not even in bio available forms for humans, some of us can convert them, some cannot; not too mention fiber blocks the absorption of many of them as well. The amount of vitamins and minerals you get from fruit and vegetables isn’t as much as you may think. Vitamin C is found in small amounts in meat, and higher amounts in organs and such. Vitamin C competes for the same cell receptor as glucose, so the RDA for vitamin C is extremely high compared to what we actually need. Most people just have a lot of glucose out competing the vitamin C so they need more. In the absence of eating carbohydrates, all the vitamin C will get absorbed. No one is getting scurvy eating carnivore, I’m also 5 years in now and all my bloodwork is good, no deficiencies. Fiber is good at making you absorb less nutrients, which is a benefit if you’re eating lots of garbage foods. It also keeps you full, which is a benefit if you’re eating garbage foods. It also increases the profits of toilet paper companies. Eating carnivore you don’t want any fiber, and I’ll tell you from personal experience - my digestion is infinitely better than it used to be. Also bloating and farting completely go away without fiber.
You can live perfectly well eating only animal products your whole life. The same cannot be said about eating only vegetable products. We've been brainwashed by a government that needs to sell the grains they have been subsidizing since WWII, hence why the bottom of the pyramid is grain based and highly processed seed oils are pushed as healthier than natural fats and oils.
We have evolved from monkeys ,our digestive tract is almost identical . And they eat alot of fruit veg and some crabs or fish . We don't have the digestive tract of a dog or cat or lion ,which are meant to eat meat and because the digestive tract is fairly short it is digested fairly quickly not left to rot in the guts. Excessive meat consumption has been linked to colon cancer and the like. There are no live enzymes in dead meat . If you are what you eat I would rather be wholesome protein rich mineral and vitamin rich coloufull and fresh than a rotting carcass.
@@Mukti481 every study that links red meat to a negative health outcome is NOT looking at people eating only red meat. It’s looking at people eating more red meat, much of which is processed meats like pepperoni on a pizza, or the beef in a frozen lasagne, or perhaps the 150cal burger patty in their 1200 calorie combo meal with a large fry and coke. There is zero (yes zero) studies of people eating a diet of exclusively red meat showing a single negative health outcome. People are just being misled by nutritional epidemiological studies which are a joke to anyone with critical thinking skills. They can lead to hypothesis but those hypothesis need to be tested or it’s completely useless data. Yes people who eat more fast food red meat have more colorectal cancer, but that’s not proving anything about unprocessed red meat. Per Google, herbivores have digestive tracts 10-12 x their body length, carnivores 3-6 and humans are around 5x. We also have one of the most acidic phs of all animals, right there with vultures, as we were once scavengers. Our stomach in a fasted state can easily handle raw meat, it’s one of the most digestible foods, that we actually absorb, which is why bowel movements are probably 90% lsss volume compared to a vegan eating a bunch of useless plant material that they shit out.
Consider a discussion on Pyrrole Disorder! leads to zinc and b6 deficiencies, essential for neurotransmitter balance. Treatment is just supplementation.
This! What are they eating? The same posion a lot of the time. We need to look at the entire Food and Drug industries and do a complete overhaul of the FDA
Will be interesting to see if you are healthy 10 years from now. Meat has no fiber. Will be interesting to see how soon you will have serious health problems. A plant based diet turned my life completely around and I am 33 years of Bi polar drugs.
Fiber is completely unnecessary for humans. We can’t digest it, all is does is make you full, make you bloated, fart, poop more, and blocks absorption of nutrients.
