The Blade is the Wave in Thailand. I saw a young gap-year kid almost kill himself on a CVT scooter. It ran away with him and he fell off on the three-lane moat road in Chiang Mai. With cars swerving around him, he panicked, picked the scooter up and made for the rental shop he'd just set off from, mere yards away. He dropped the bike again. Cars swerved around him. He lucky not to be badly injured. I have a scooter as my runaround in Chiang Rai, but I don't go far from home. I can't get on with the semi-auto's gear shift. Old username: 1990

I've seen your videos before. I live in Vietnam and I ride a Honda wave. What you don't understand is that semiautomatic bikes do have a clutch. They just dont have a clutch lever which is normally located on the left hand side of the handle bars. A clutch is a device that transfers power from the engine to the wheel enabling the bike or car to move. Even an automatic bike has a clutch. In fact it has 2 clutches in the CVT. Which stands for continuously variable transmission. Now if you ride your bike around in 3rd or 4th gear and never change gears you will definatly wear out the friction plates on the clutch much faster. The semiautomatic bike like the blade which you're riding has 4 gears for a reason and the ability to change gears when the rider needs to. Slower speeds are 1st and 2nd gears and higher speeds are 3rd and 4th gears. But starting in 3rd or 4th gear will wear out those friction plates in that so called nonexistent clutch that you mentioned extremely quickly. Now if you have a bike rental business then I seriously suggest you learn a lot more about how those bikes really work. If you don't then your mechanic will really love you.

You have taken a technicality that has no relevance to a beginner rider choosing between an automatic and a semi automatic. The Video is 6 minutes long. There is no science or mechanical based information in the video, it is surface level information at best. I have a bike rental business that has had at its peak 300 of these semi automatics in circulation across Vietnam. I am well aware of the long term maintenance schedules on these machines. They are designed to withstand shockingly bad driving and abuse. They can absolutely be plodded around in 3rd and 4th gear without any damage to the clutch. Half clicking the gears on the other hand, will destroy the clutch on a semi-automatic very quickly... I don't really need to justify myself, but to demonstrate I know what a clutch is, I have video on the topic of burning Semi-Automatic clutches already :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kr3zllZ1CJU.html It is best not to jump to conclusions on the internet on the information provided in a 6 minute long video. PS. I hope that one day, Tigit can be run by a CEO / boss that has no mechanical based skills at all! The CEO, should not need to be a mechanic. However, for now, I run the company, and I have plenty of experience in this field!

Here in vietnam everyone was taught to start in 1st and then immediately switch to 3th or 4th as soon as the bike got in power for the rest of the journey yet people can rock their bikes for decades without any clutch related issues so i think the bikes were designed to widstand that

It's my first time with semi automatics. I have been able to switch up gears pretty smoothly by letting go of throttle and uplifting. But when downshifting I almost always get a sudden jolt. What is the best way to downshift? Right now I'm letting go of throttle and going from 4 to 3 when speed is about 40kms. And then going from 3 to 2 when it's about 20kms etc. Is it ok to downshift when fully stopped or is that bad for the bike? For example shift down from 4 to 3 to 2 to 1. If coming to a stop is it ok to cruise in 4 and shift up to neutral to come to a stop? Thank you

The semi is the most successful engine in motorcycle history. You could have added that the semi's are better on hills, up and down.

You forgot to mention one more thing which is engine breaking On a semi automatic you can safely go down a mountain in 2nd gear and the engine will keep your motorcycle controlled. No need to use the brakes unless necessary On an automatic letting go of the gas will make the engine return to idle and the motorcycle will launch downhill in neutral, so you have to rely on your brakes all the time This is very dangerous when going down a mountain, as the brakes will quickly overheat.

Absolutely.
@ich1219
@ich1219 3 месяца назад
It doesn't, as long as you're fast enough that the centrifugal clutch doesn't disengage, you have an engine brake. And starting in third gear is nonsense, you'll destroy the clutch
@tristan6509
@tristan6509 3 месяца назад
@@ich1219 @ich1219 "as long as you go fast enough" the point of engine braking is to go slow, and not launch yourself downhill Also while staring in 3rd will put strain on the clutch it will not break them since they are oil cooled.

Not really in Vietnam, they choose the automatic because it's easier to use. Women mostly of course.

Semi autos are more fun and you can engine brake down hills in the mountains which takes the strain off the brakes.

I'm totally agree that Semi automatic has many advantages over automatic motobike, but there is one HUGE problem to deal with a semi-automatic, which is at the time that suddenly the motorbike turned off because of some problem(useally bad battery) then you have to switch gears all the way to N in order being able to move the bike, which could be extremely dangerous if it's happening in the middle of the road, this is why I prefer fully manual then I just hold the clutch and pull the bike on the side of the road very quick and I don't need to deal which switch gears to N
@Tigitmotorbikes
@Tigitmotorbikes Год назад
Or you just get a bike that works. Don't let the battery die :) If you have a bad battery on an automatic and it cuts out. Then you are stuck in the middle of the road with no way to start it.

I think that when you press and hold a gear, the clutch of an semi automatic bike will disengage just like when you pull a clutch lever of a manual motorcycle, im not sure cause i just ridden semi automatic a few times only, but i remember that it was my way of rev matching when downshifting to a lower gear on a semi automatic motorcycle, correct me if im wrong tho
@David.Robinowich
@David.Robinowich 2 месяца назад
@jhc100 No man. When you press the gear on a semi-automatic and hold, it is more or less equivalent, like the clutch is on the friction zone in a manual gear, which means there isn't disengagement and you can't move the bike. The only way to move the semi-automatic without starting the engine is when the bike on N

@@jhc100i was thinking the same, if you hold down the pedal, it works the same as pulling the clutch lever on a manual, so you still have time to get on side of the road

i have a manual motorbike honda tmx125, a semi auto honda xrm110 and an automatic motorstar easyride 150fi aka Qmax, so far most comfy to use is the automatic but high maintenance and poor on steep climbs, my semi auto a 20 year old honda xrm still running good

Mine is semi-automatic but a chinese Kenbo KB50FA, it is very very sensitive to throttle and very jerky if you don’t know how to rev match and properly downgrade. Doesn’t shift and locks wheels if you don’t match the revs with the gears.

OK, so if you have your semi automatic in first gear and you decide to throttle up, wouldn’t you have the same effect as an automatic scooter??…
@Edmonaise
@Edmonaise Год назад
Yeah exactly. So 2nd or 3rd gear is the best starting gear for a first time rider. Once they nail the acceleration of 2nd gear, they can start using 1st gear.
@tristan6509
@tristan6509 8 месяцев назад
No because it's in first gear First gear is very slow, it has a lot of torque and will pull you forward, but the engine will quickly reach redline (it's max RPM) and you're stuck at maybe 20km/h

Just watched the video... makes me think that after 5 years & 45 000km on Nuovo it's finally time to get a bike for humans. The funny thing is that I never broke down; not a single time (just casual/ maintenance repairs)

If I only would see this video 3 months ago I rented an automatic ELECTRIC bike. It is even faster then the new automatic ones I wiskey throlled and smashed a video, cut my back real deep and all costed me 1500 USD, no insurance coverage of course And also a month to recover Obviously with an semi-automatic I wouldn't even do 10% of the damages.

Hello i have a question, im going to buy a semi automatic motorcycle but with no kickstarter built in, can we bump start/push start semi automatic morotcycle ?

Yes it will work, put it in 2nd gear and give it a push This is the advantage of the honda design compared to early semi automatics, it allows for engine breaking and push starting. Inside the engine housing there are 2 clutches, a normal clutch and a centrifugal clutch When the engine is off, the normal clutch will take over and allow you to push start the engine The normal clutch is also connected to the gear lever, so it will shift gears smoothly The centrifugal clutch is only used when starting from a stop, after the motorcycles moves the normal clutch takes over allowing engine breaking For example when going downhill you can shift into 2nd/1st and the motorbike will slowly creep down the hill Meanwhile on an automatic there is only a centrifugal clutch connected to a belt and roller system, meaning power can only be transferred one way So when going downhill you will need to rely on your brakes, when you let go of the gas the motorcycle will launch forward as the engine returns to idle. This is dangerous as the brakes will overheat when going down a mountain, and you'll be in a lot of hurt.
