Good animation doesn't excuse bad writing and storytelling. I didn't watch this movie after seeing it on TV. It left a bad taste for me unlike the trilogy. Woody was broken, Buzz was broken, Bo was broken, the original toys were sidelined to push the new ones, that horrible doll got a happy ending. My goodness. It made me cry, not because it's emotional but because it's frustrating and disappointing.

Bro, Gabby Gabby was truly a HORRIBLE character. They tried to frame her (rightfully) at the very beginning as the villain of this movie… but I guess halfway through they changed their mind. She was suddenly “misunderstood”, and “just wanted to make a kid happy”… let’s just forget that she held Forky ransom so Woody would trade his voice box for his freedom. Let’s just forget after that didn’t work, she manipulated and gaslit Woody by bringing up Andy into finally giving up his voice box for Forky’s freedom. Then when Gabby’s grand plan didn’t work after all, she still avoided a lesson about failure, and the consequences of manipulation by literally being accepted by the next kid that saw her… she got off Scott free, getting exactly what she wanted. Woody lost everything in this movie, and we’re supposed to love it because it’s Toy Story?? I’ll never accept this movie’s existence. I just hope TS5 undoes what this abomination did to the franchise.

I used to when I was younger, but then I realized that a fourth one wasn't the intention and that I should appreciate that the toy story series new when it had to end. And then they decided to make woody do a 180 in opinions in at most a year.
The entire franchise was about fulfilling your responsibilities and accepting your fate. The 4th movie is about saying "screw that, I'm gonna be a drifter with this hot chick."

To Toy story 4: Let's disregard our responsibility of being a toy, because we aren't the center of attention anymore and go off and do what I want to do. (Which is? uhhhhhhhhhhhhh) Like litterally, if toys that arent aren't broken meant to be played with, then what are they for, lmao? The movie contradicts the precious movies on what it means to be part of someone's world to spark joy in. Which is to be played. There's no reason for Bo Peep to be out in a playground without an owner when there are multiple kids out there.
4th movie completely defeats the purpose of toy story 3 ending. Andy gives woody to Bonnie hoping she would take good care of him only for her to not giving a crap about him. Also buzz seems more like a side character while rest of the gang barely have any roles and more screen time is dedicated to the new characters. They also seem out of character. Buzz is suddenly dumb(would be more fitting for Rex), Bo Peeps personality is much more fitting for Jessie etc. Also remember how in toy story 2 woody considered staying with Jessie in the museum while abandoning buzz and rest of his friends? Thats literally what he did in toy story 4 so basically defeating the purpose of toy story 2 as well.
Don’t forget, Toy Story was about Woody not being jealous when he isn’t played with and Buzz realizing that HE IS A TOY!!! Not some alien fighting space ranger. Well now Woody chose to live as some sort of lone cowboy without purpose other than getting laid by some boss girl he has nothing in common with. And his justification for abandoning his friends? He doesn’t get played as much anymore. So Woody is a hypocrite who hasn’t learned anything, thus defeating the purpose of the first movie as well. Three out of three, good job Pixar!

To be honest, Bonnie isn't much out of character for a kid as young as she is, it's actually very normal that some kids have a phase of playing with paper dolls or the weirdest things instead of their toys, but it's just a phase, they always return to the toys. For someone like Woody, who spent YEARS without being touched, suddenly feeling abandoned within less than a year is what gets me. Woody is such a loyal toy to his owner, it sounds weird to me that on his own will he would leave

I don't think that it's even a ' good ' movie. The character assassination of Woody, Buzz and Bo Peep was absolutely atrocious. They completely gaslight the audience on the events of the previous films and the characters. They side track the main cast for their inferior new characters. Gabby Gabby was an awful character and truly an evil villain but still got everything she desired at the end for convenience. So many other problems as well. Truly, an awful movie which shouldn't have existed in the first place
The spork plot should've been dropped, and the older Toy Story characters should've went on the mission with Woody to go get Bo Peep, and bring her home with them not stay at the carnival. I would've done the Gabby Gabby character the same way, but have her want to hold Bo hostage at the antique store until she gets Woody's pullstring (but she never does). It would've been a much better movie.
To be fair, I've thought Forky concept is interesting, just badly executed. After some minutes, his obsession for garbage becomes annoying and rather pointless.
Yeah I don't mention it often cause I'm always worried people will think I'm sexist or something... but I didn't like how Bo Peep is suddenly a super-skilled tough girl. Its not a bad personality (though it IS a very common thing these days, its starting to get a smidge cliché) but its NOTHING like how Bo was in the previous movies. I didn't like the old Bo Peep, but I also don't like the inconsistency... And its not like her time as a lost toy is what changed her, she was shown with that personality in the flashback at the start of the movie. Not even gonna talk about how much they butchered Buzz's character... like, why doesn't he have a conscious? Why can he suddenly not think logically for himself despite being the most competent in the first three films? Why is he so dumb just for this running gag??? Inconsistent. That's the magic word to describe this movie.
Bo Peep reminds me of Peach in the Mario Movie. Peach is girly in the games, yet portrayed as a badass girl boss in the trailers. Like it didn't work for Bo Peep it probably will be fine with Peach, just very inaccurate to the games. Its frustrating because it's good to have a strong female character, but in EVERY children's movie? It's getting old because they all have the same personallity. The biggest problem with Toy Story 4 is - Bonnie is not the driving force of the plot. She's a background character. Toy Story 1 - Andy getting a new toy (Buzz) kicks off the plot, and Woody sees Buzz as competition for Andy's affections. Toy Story 2 - Woody suffers an existential crisis that, one day, Andy will discard him. So he feels the lure of a different future where he will be cherished forever by other children. Toy Story 3 - Andy finally gives up his toys, there is a misunderstanding that leads to him losing track of ones he wanted to hang onto (Woody and Buzz), but eventually he accepts he has to pass them on to Bonnie. Andy effectively passing the torch to Bonnie. Toy Story 4 - Woody is miserable that Bonnie no longer plays with him, but in truth he still has not gotten over Andy giving him away. Forky is the only thing keeping Bonnie relevant in the plot. Ultimately Woody leaves with Bo Peep, showing he had zero attachment to Bonnie.
It also sucks that 2 emphasizes how loyal he is to Andy and how he explicitly fights his own mindset in 4 through Jessie, who's been through abandonment issues and deliberately held to the opinion that every toy should be happy to play with his owner as much as they can. He'll you don't see the army men figures after the second movie but you don't see them complaining that they don't get used anymore.
I’ll never forgive what they did to practically every original character in this movie. - *Woody* (who had once gotten over being Andy’s toy, and embraced being Bonnie’s) was now depressed Andy wasn’t around, and at the end gave up his MAIN character trait of ALWAYS being there for his Kid and his Friends (“No Matter What” - Andy) - *Buzz* is now a doofus, who kept happening to stumble into the plot when convenient, but ultimately served little to no purpose. - *Bo Peep* was turned into an arrogant, MEAN, narcissist who continued to dunk on Woody throughout the movie, and talked to him like a misbehaving child. - *Andy* looked NOTHING like himself from the previous movies. - *Bonnie* who used to cherish Woody, disregarded him in favor of a spork, and Jessie (who she never had a connection with before like she did Woody). - *Jessie* who was once a LEADER in the Toy Story gang, was now relegated to hardly even a side character. - *The Rest of the OG Toy Story Gang* were not even side character’s, they hardly spoke, they just existed in the background (occasionally) only to help at the very end of the movie. After everything they’ve been through, after all the years we’ve literally grown to know them, they were ALL assassinated by a director and writers who didn’t know, or give half a shit about them. The only thing this movie had going for it was the soundtrack, and the quality of animation. Everything else was nostalgia bait.
I had a similar feeling after seeing Jurassic World: Dominion. Wasted such potential like exploring the consequences of dinosaurs and humans co-existing together, the heroes of the JW trilogy Owen Grady and Claire Dearling meeting and interacting with the heroes of the OG trilogy Alan Grant, Ellie Satler and Ian Malcom and Grant and Grady having dueling perspectives on velociraptors. It was the worst movie going experience I had last year and that’s saying something when I actually tolerated Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom when I saw that one in theaters. All the Jurassic World sequels did was make me appreciate the sequels to Jurassic Park for at least being more memorable and entertaining for their good and bad moments in comparison.
I would’ve walked out as soon as Woody’s voice box was removed! Just one problem: I went to see it with my Mom! TS4 has even less of a reason to exist than ELF BOWLING THE MOVIE!
The Girlfriend™ Trope is legitimately my least favorite trope in movies, books, literally everything. Where you ship off one of the original and primary characters with a girlfriend for that "bitter sweet" ending or some crap. It happened in Toy Story, it happened in How to Train your Dragon. It isn't always a girlfriend, but most of the time it is and I don't ever want to see this again, thank you.
I feel like Toy Story 4 is the weaker version of Toy Story 1, if that makes sense. Basically both plots, when broken down to their fundamental basics, center around Woody finding a way to win back his owner's love
Toy story 4 ending is also like an alternate bad ending to toy story 2. Remember how in toy story 2 he considered staying in museum with Jessie, never being loved and played again by a kid and abandoning his owner and other toy friends? Thats literally what he did in toy tory 4 ending so its essentially the same as if he decided to stay in the museum with Jessie in toy story 2.

Actually, I really enjoyed Shrek 3. At least it ended in a good place, and Shrek didn't leave everybody he ever loved to focus entirely on just Fiona, nor did Rumplestiltskin get to keep the crown of far far away.
I saw GamingMagic13's Toy Story 4 saga and it is great despite having forgotten about that film he truly makes some good points regarding a lot of the biggest problems with Toy Story 4. I mean sure he does Nitpick a few times in the Toy Story 4 Saga but he makes some good points regarding many of the flaws that the film has.

What upsets me the most is the villain. As someone who HAS been manipulated, gaslighted and lied to it pissed me off that Gabby Gabby was given a happy ending. When she was mentally, emotionally and even physically abusive towards Woody the moment she meets him. Manipulating him using what she learns about him from Forky. It's down right SCARY seeing how she legit is FORGIVEN and given a happy ending when people LIKE her ruin lives. Abuse is a cycle and abusers don't HAVE to be forgiven. That is NOT a safe lesson to teach kids. It's dangerous and ends up trapping people IN that CYCLE of abuse. It's clear Pixar didn't know what they were doing with her character, but it was done badly. She reminds of the the Red Queen from Alice Through the Looking Glass. Another character that did NOT deserve forgiveness or a redemption arc after we see her mentally, emotionally and physically abuse her lover the whole movie. I'm so DONE with this weird trope. When you write a villain like this redemption arcs are nearly impossible to do unless you KNOW what your doing and even then not everyone SHOULD forgive them.
Lmao bro what is your problem with Gabby Gabby? She wasn't abusive, she was introduced THAT way so the viewers would think she's the villain. From the past movies of Toy story, 2 and 3 to be specific, they make plot twists that the villains are introduced as the good guys, this time they turned it the way around. At least appreciate a new plot regardless the point of this video.
Plus, don't make a big deal out of it like what children could learn or gain trauma from the movie, especially about "abuse", when Gabby Gabby's approach to them didn't please you. What is Toy Story 3 to you?
I agree, there's just one point that I don't really understand - everyone mentioning Bonnie not caring about her other toys, just Forky. To me that part made sense because I've seen many kids, babysat a ton more, and saw how their attention focused on different toys for periods of time; similarly to how Andy was obsessed with Buzz at first. Children have this, and it is also not uncommon for them to not change the stance. Sure, it was bad from Bonnie to treat the toys like so, but not a far-fetched idea either, no matter how touching the last scene was with Andy before. So yeah, other than that, it was truly pushed into a direction that just did the characters dirty.
And its important to keep in mind that to Bonnie they are still just toys... its not like she knew she was neglecting them really, since they're inanimate objects (at least as far as she knows). Imagination or not a child still comprehends that fact at least a little. The thing that gets me though is how she seemed to genuinely care about Woody in the 3rd one, and she literally promised she would take care of him for Andy... she's a kid so can't really blame her but its crazy to think she's so unfocused that she doesn't even notice Woody disappeared. :/
I think the rough bit is that even if it's more realistic, it's really unsatisfying from a storytelling perspective. You can't blame a kid for having a short attention span, but you CAN blame the writers of a story for causing the kid to be neglectful when they could have done otherwise. Bonnie's neglect really sours the ending of 3 and for that reason, it was a poor choice. Just because something is more true to life, doesn't make it a good idea for a story.
@@lasercraft32 the thing about tiu story, is that because the audience knows they are toys the way we are meant to interpret things is based on the toys. For example, sid from Toy Story was just playing with toys. He didn’t know they were sentient. He was just blowing them up and taking them apart because that’s how he plays. But because we know the toys are alive his actions are bad and he’s seen as an antagonist because he’s treating what we know is alive, badly. I think that’s also a flaw in Toy Story because while the humans think they’re just playing with toys, because e know they’re alive we can’t just see the humans as humans who think they’re just playing with toys.

By Woody leaving Bonnie he also actually BETRAYS Andy! Andy wanted him to stay with Bonnie! Andy was the one who chose that Woody shall be with Bonny. That was his decision. So Woody leaving Bonnie means that he disrespects his previous owners wishes and decisions! Also yeah sure maybe Bonnie didnt play that much with him anymore. However, Woody spent like 5 or more years in a toy box because Andy grew up. So did he leave? No of course not! Because it was Andys decision to not play with him! And in the Bonnie situation; shes still a child! One morning she might wake up and may really want to play with Woody again all out of the sudden!
I found it interesting that you didn’t even mention the “Villain” of this movie Gabi. Toy Story (1) Villain Sid tortures toys. Toy Story 2 had 3 Villains: Al, stinky Pete and Zurg each had their own reasons and were threats in some way Toy Story 3 Villain was Lotzo he had a story arc and became a toy overlord putting others in their places Toy Story 4 had Gabi who wanted Woody’s voice box to be loved by a child, he got the voice box and it didn’t work. She just acts as a plot device
Woodys behavior in TS4 was borderline obsessive over Bonnie, which I get was supposed to be his character arc in 4, that he didn't *have* to be someone else's toy, but I still think it ruined his character in the previous films.

GamingMagic13 did a 6-hour video about how Toy Story 4 destroyed everything about the previous films. It’s an excellent breakdown, and it really shows how horrible Toy Story 4 was as a film.
When i saw this movie in theaters i was actually pretty bored. They could’ve made it better with more of the original toys or made the villain better. But they didn’t.
100% agree. Yes, it’s still a good movie. But I felt so betrayed when Woody left his family at the end. It was like the film makers just gave a big middle finger to all the story beats that had come before.
It would have been better as a TV show where it shows Bonnie playing with the toys, and them forming that bond. Then have it end with the toys being worried about being forgotten now that they're old and worn, only for them to become Andy's toys again except this time its his kid (older child adopted from foster care) Then they could have a final movie where the toys have to navigate not being child safe. It wouldn't be necessary but it hits home how the toys are people who've been rehomed several times, and the impact that has had on their sense of safety, and security. It wouldn't be necessary but it would respect the emotional connections that were vital to the last several films.
Personally, I thought Toy Story 4 was a fanfiction with really good animation. It deconstructed the characters of Woody, Jessie, and especially Buzz since we last saw them in Toy Story 3, pushed out the old toys to make room for the new ones (because they were STUCK IN A VAN THE WHOLE TIME) but it overall ruins the ending of Toy Story 3 and Andy’s promise to Bonnie.
The thing about Bo Peep is for me that it does make sense that she became an action orientated person after being on her own for such a long time. What doesnt make sense for me is that in the BEGINNING of the movie she suddenly acted like that as well! When that wasnt her character at all in the previous movies. It wouldve been much more satisfying to see her more held back in the past and now in the present shes very much on her own. But nnNOOOO the movie tries to gaslight us that she was always like that!
They could've done so many things instead of Toy Story 4: 1. Still make it, but call it "Woody." 2. Abandon it entirely, and make a bunch of shorts. 3. Make a prequel movie.

The original idea for Toy Story 4 was going to be a romantic comedy and it was supposed to stand apart from the other films as to not undo the ending in Toy Story 3: "It is not a continuation of the end of the story of Toy Story 3. Temporarily, it is, but it will be a love story. It will be a romantic comedy, but it will not focus much on the interaction between the characters and children." But, Lasseter stepped down as co-director, and then, when Lasseter was suspended in November 2017, the two writers also quit because of "philosophical differences". Apparently, Cooley wanted to make the movie a feminist film and not a rom-com. A new writer was hired who threw out most of the original script and rewrote it to be about Woody passing on his role as sheriff/favorite toy to Jessie, as the leader to Dolly and Bo, and literally giving his voice to a female toy (Gabby Gabby) who never had an opportunity like Woody did. The romantic aspect became a minor subplot, and the film became an existential crisis film for Woody, trying to cling to his need for meaning and purpose in this new female world he inhabited, and ultimately deciding to let go of it all.
Ugh... I hate when movies try to revolve the story and plot around some political statement. I'd rather they just write good stories that anyone can derive purpose or meaning from, that happen to have positive moral lessons and examples, instead of just feeling like insincere wokeness. :/

Is this for real? Ain't no way they prioritised political ideologies over a captivating narrative to be in line with the trilogy. This could have been done for another stand alone film if they so desperately wanted, but not for Toy Story. That's the one franchise that doesn't need to be influenced by modern ideals, because it should be timeless imo. It can't get worse, so maybe Toy Story 5 will be better... *maybe.*
The writers and director stripped Woody of EVERYTHING, even the voice box that used to bring Andy, Bonnie, and the Audience so much joy. For them to literally rob Woody of everything he is, leaving him an empty husk to sheepishly follow Bo around, is truly despicable and openly violates all of our childhoods in broad daylight. The fact that they made Buzz an idiot, sidelined Jessie (and all the other OG toys), and infantilized a once somewhat emotionally mature Bonnie in the name of feminism makes me want to vomit. These movies used to be for everybody… but Cooley and his team of *HACKS* wanted to colonize it for a small group of angry people from the internet… here’s a big fat 🖕for you, Cooley. As a huge Pirates of the Caribbean fan, I always say that the only films that are canon are the first three, all directed by Gore Verbinski. The other two don't even exist in my mind. Some time ago I decided the same about Toy Story, #3 was the end of the story for me. The 4th is just a bad conceptual dream.

Didn't bother watch the movie but knowing how it ended is enough for me to not like it. Boonie may had been the new owner, and she didn't play with Woody (weird considering she literally miss Woody enough to want Woody even after having all the other toys when Andy gave them to her AND being excited when she saw him). Also, Woody leaving in a way override Andy OWN WISH! He entrusted his toys to Boonie, for Woody to force Boonie to break that promise. Cause.... Is not like she is grown up yet, she has many other years to pick up her toys. Beside, it looked like when she was playing to want to include everyone in her playtime so.... I didn't like it. All the characters were out of character, especially Buzz.
The main issue I have with the ending is that we can see throughout the film that Woody has strong feelings for Bo Peep, yet she doesn't. She treats him like an acquaintance, a friend at most. From that perspective, going with Bo seems to Woody like a no-brainer decision of an infatuated person ignoring the red flags and desperately holding on to a glimmer of hope. In that situation, Bo should've told him to go with his friends, but instead, she seems to prioritise Woody's short-term happiness by letting him go with her instead of his long-term well-being since there doesn't seem to be any substantial chemistry between the two characters and a break-up is more than obviously underway. She's essentially intentionally leading him on, and the filmmakers making that seem like a win for all seems very short-sighted in my eyes and a waste of a powerful moment that could've been used to actually teach the audience something.
Did Woody keep his record? Gaby did say something about her record being fine and the voice box being broken. If she only took woody's voice box and let him keep his record, can't woody find another voice box for his record. It's sad to think that woody completely lost his voice especially since its a major part of his personality and experiences. I really hope there's toy story 5 that can give him a better ending.
When I first watched Toy Story 4, I almost stormed out of the theater at the end because it felt like a contrived betrayal and I hated the movie front to back because of it. I finally watched it again a few months ago and, while on its own it is a decent movie that kinda lines up with the rest of the series theme of having to let go of things you thought were forever, it missed the part of that theme about realizing what was truly important and sticking with that - your friends and family (Sometimes you have to let go of what you think is important (TS1 the position of Andy's favorite, TS2 fame and admiration, TS3 a single person, TS4 everyone and everything you have ever known) for what is truly important (TS1-3 your friends and family, TS4 that girl you liked that you haven't seen in several years who seems to have adjusted well to life without you while you have apparently been pining for her the whole time even though that is never brought up in TS3 other than a PASSING REFERENCE ALSO INVOLVING EVERYONE ELSE THEY LOST ALONG THE WAY THAT ONLY IMPLIES IT WAS A BIT OF A DEEPER CUT FOR WOODY THAN THE REST BUT NOT TO THE EXTENT THIS SHOWS). All the returning characters in this movie act wildly out-of-character so that it can have an emotionally charged ending, but it sacrificed the series and characters it was based on for it. Woody of TS1-3 would not act like TS4 (even his little kerfuffle with Dolly at the beginning to help establish his discontent is contrived since 1 and 2 showed him adjusting to co-leadership just fine), Buzz, who proves to be a competent and selfless leader at the beginning of TS2, which requires an above-average level of analytical and emotional intelligence, is reduced to an idiot who literally does not know how to think for himself, and the lack of interaction between Buzz and Woody at the end and Buzz just accepting that his best friend for the last 10+ years is abandoning him for someone they haven't seen in years, someone he was never shown to be as close to as he was to Buzz, felt like such a betrayal and still does. Bo Peep I'll give a little bit of a pass to but only because she doesn't really have much of a character in the first two movies given her total screen time is just a few minutes, but even then, she is a much calmer and more grounded character in those movies so even she doesn't line up, and Bonnie is a young child who is liable to forget things even if she seems to me like the kind of kid that would make sure to cycle through her toys so none of them would feel neglected (but that may just be me projecting). Even if they redid the movie to have the characters fit in with their characterizations in the first 3 movies (baring Bo because without her drastic change, this whole movie could never happen), at the end Woody would have to leave Bo again because he would choose Buzz alone over Bo, even disregarding all the other characters (like TS4 did), and settle into a content retirement as an older toy who helps mentor new toys like he does with Forky, which would fit in with his characterization in the first 3 movies far better and deliver a much harder but better message to kids that life changes, things won't always go your way, and you will have to give up chances at temporary happiness, but as long as you have the people you love around you, you can find your place and find a deeper joy in life than you ever could just chasing happiness. I don't want to hate this movie because it is a well made movie with a decent story and beautiful (if stylistically uninteresting, but that's a bigger Pixar problem in general) animation, but I can't love it like I do with the first 3 because it recycles so many elements from those movies without doing anything interesting with them or understanding what the first 3 movies were about at their core - sticking with the people you love because that is what truly makes life worth living.
Many say the 4th film is about moving on, but considering the ending of the 3rd movie it seems that Woody already moved on from Andy since he deliberately placed himself in the "donate to Bonnie" box. He accepts that Andy is going to college. Interestingly, Woody's growth of moving on from Andy is somewhat seen in Andy when he willingly donates Woody. Not only that, as you point out, Woody is helping Forky so he can make a Bonnie happy. Even if Woody is a bit miffed that he hasn't been picked for playtime, he was willing to keep Forky safe to ensure Bonnie is happy. I guess it can be seen as overbearing, but I'm getting mixed messages. Woody was overbearing but also right to care about Forky and Bonnie. I suppose you can be both, but it can muddie the message especially since Gabby Gabby seems to be a foil to Woody or at least share similar issues of feeling wanted.
I think the Toy Story franchise has gone in the same direction as Spongebob. The first 3 seasons and original movie were fantastic (with some flaws) and the show was intended to end there. But the studio refused to let go of their biggest cash cow and kept it running so long the well went dry. Every season after the first movie was garbage. And this happened with Toy Story too. 3 would have been a marvelous way to end the franchise, but nope, they had to keep their big cash cow going, and now there's a fifth movie on the way that I do not have high hopes for
@@hunterolaughlin Season 4 was hit or miss. It had (in my opinion) the first truly awful episode (Good Neighbors) along with some great episodes and a handful of episodes I'm iffy on. Season 5, 6 and 7 I can't stand at all

I think if you see Toy Story’s theme as “accepting yourself” then this last movie makes absolutely no sense. However, I don’t think that is the actual overarching theme of Toy Story. In my opinion, the overarching theme is feelings of inadequacy and the fear of abandonment that that brings. The first story illustrates the fear of being replaced, with Woody learning the lesson at two can shine at the same time. The second movie explores, the fear of becoming obsolete. This is explored through Jessie’s abandonment, Woody breaking and overall the Woody’s Roundup gang no longer being popular. Toy story three explored the fear of being left behind when others move on. When looking at toy story four from this lens, it makes sense that the resolution of the story would be to stop seeking external validation for your place in this world, and give it to yourself. Considering that Woody is the consistent vehicle, the story used to explore this theme, it makes sense that the last movie would be about Woody. I do think that this movie has flaws, I don’t really think that it needed to be made, the change in Bo Peep characterization is frustrating, but I just simply do not agree that this movie does not fit in the theme.
Let's not forget the character murder of buzz... making the most smart into the lost dumb who doesn't even know what a conscience is when he has used it the last 3 films
@@Yohoat I tried listening to it as a podcast because I was completely unaware of the guy's behavior, and I left the video feeling significantly more miserable and generally in a bad mood because my man was so heated.
@@saltystick_99 I ran into it because I put on a video essay playlist while I was working and put it on shuffle. I heard the first 60 seconds and skipped it, he immediately was just completely hate filled and wasn't exactly a wordsmith. Can't do that type of content lol.
Honestly? I think the film had a lot of missed opportunities to try something new that they were very clearly trying to do and it all comes down to that argument scene with Woody & Bo. Woody's motivation for saving Forky shouldn't be "it's all I have left to do" it should be "it's all I know HOW to do" because being there for a kid is the only purpose Woody has ever had in his entire life so if you take that away from him what is he? The themes should've leaned more into the idea that maybe Woody does have other options and maybe him and Bo can give it another go as a couple which they very clearly still want to be. If they had just changed that one little line of dialogue the movie would've made a little more sense and a little more reason to exist but as it is? why the fuck did they even try to make a 4th movie after ending it so perfectly to begin with?

Disney/Pixar is far from a poor company... its a multi-million dollar company. So of course they don't need money they just want _more_ money.... Which is why they keep bringing back Toy Story instead of letting it end and thinking of something new. Yes, the people working for said company needs money but considering all the different money-making products like Disney Land, their toys, their movies, Disney+ which earns them a crap ton of money monthly from thousands of people they're certainly not struggling to get by...🤷♂
Nah, see that doesn’t work with woody because it still goes agains the previous 3 movies and means that Woody didn’t know what he was talking about in this story 2 when he was talking to Jessie. It also reinforces the idea that woody cannot handle being someone favorite toy, so when he’s not the favorite he doesn’t know what to do

The more I hear about this movie, the more appalling it sounds. As if it isn’t bad enough that they made Woody into a Simp, but they made Bo Peep a bully and Bonnie a liar. what is worse, they undermined practically everything that made the first three movies so special.
Toy story 3 felt like the finally to the entire toy story franchise (save the shorts). It showed how growing up is an inevitable thing and to cherish the moments while they're there. Toy story 4 pulled a William Afton, though, because it untied the perfect bow left on the story that 3 finished and took one of the most impactful scenes in the franchise (that being when Andy gives all his toys to Bonnie.) And ruined it by changing something about what was said to be something else. Toy story 4 was made purely for profit because there is no way any kid who would see a college kid really want to keep a toy that they were given and leave it in their closet to collect dust. Let alone the fact that Bonnie promised to take care of woody.
Can't wait to watch the next 6 movies as woody slowly becomes estranged from everything he once was, living in the wilds loosing his sanity as he slowly degrades and falls to pieces while still unable to die. Kind of like the franchise.
I do think the ending could have been more powerful if Bonnie actually abandoned him but it defeats the Toy Story 3 purpose. Bo Peep and Woody's reunion is sweet and I definitely see that both of them love each other to death so why not take advantage of their relationship and add it a little twist in the plot. Spork plot is so so unnecessary, they could just gone Bo Peep route where she had returned to the group (Bonnie found her and keep her) but she doesnt want because she gives up clinging on false hope ever hoping that she will have a kid that will play and care for her. Woody doesnt understand at first but spending a lot of time with her and knowing her past awful years being a lost toy has definitely question Woody's loyalty to Bonnie. What if she tired playing with him and gave him to somebody that is clearly not good at handling toys? Then Bo Peep found a way to leave but Woody stopped her, they gone to big argument then Bo Peep asked . And thus begin Woody's biggest decisions, would he come with her or stay with Bonnie and his friends? Woody wanted to join but at the same time he do not want to because he doesnt want to waste Andy's final gift and he will be betraying his friends. He also wanted to save Bo Peep because he loves her, Bo Peep knows and thats why she feel so guilty forcing him to choose because she loves Woody too and she doesnt want to get parted away again. Woody picked none and he will save her. He started to talk to Bo Peep about Bonnie that she is a responsible and a good kid. Then Woody helped Bo to overcome her fears then she found out that Bonnie isnt actually irresponsible and she loves her toys so much. Woody assures that if Bonnie grows up and grow tired of them, Bonnie will surely introduce them to a good kid and if not... She have him.
Woody doesnt give up on anyone. Leaving bonnie was such a mistake and total screw up on behalf of the pixar writers. Should have ended wirh toy story 3
Only if they didn't come up with an excuse of saying that Bo Peep wasn't in Toy Story 3 only to make a 4th installment then the 3rd installment would have been the last one.
I mean to be real here that's kind of the overall problem with sequels and reboots in general, they either get so bogged down in trying to make more money or ham-fist some sort of political statement or message in there that the story itself gets lost in the process. And this movie is a good example of how too much of a good thing can ruin a franchise, unfortunately a lot of aspects of the entertainment industry has become so creatively bankrupt that all they can seem to do is either reboot series or sequel them to death.
pretty much sums up the movie. i thought it was ...ok... when i first watched it, but after watching several movies about it, i see how bad it is. its down there with Raya and the Last Dragon as one of the worst Disney movies
I used to like Toy Story 4 when I first saw it, but after rewatching it, my opinion has soured over the years. I hated the movie so much that it ruined my love for Toy Story at one point. And now that Toy Story 5 is happening, I refuse to see that movie, especially after watching both Toy Story 4 and Lightyear.
I'm still blown away that Disney/Pixar now has a happy-go-lucky song about suicide in their repetoire thanks to Toy Story 4. That bouncy song playing as Forky is constantly trying to throw himself in the trash... oof! I know the whole premise of that musical montage is how badly Woody is trying to save Forky from himself, but wow, how did this song make it through through producers, test audiences, and the ratings bureau? Did not one question whether suicide it funny or not?
The terrible CGI of Woody, buzz, Jessie & Bo Peep are a massive reason why I never bothered to watch Toy Story 4 and now seeing how they’ve removed the entire gang in TS4 only gives me a greater reason not to see 4 or 5 I grew up with 1 & 2 as a toddler then being so excited for the third when I was in my early teens as it still stayed true to the story but seeing what 4 & now 5 ruin what I grew up with and related to is at this point fkn soul destroying that such a great franchise could get ruined because Disney want to milk it for more $$$
Exactly, Toy Story 3 could have been the last one if Bo Peep & Sketch was in it. Too bad Toy Story 3's closure to the series got ruined with the existence of Toy Story 4.
I was a lot like Bonnie in the third film growing up; I was very quiet and shy, preferred to play with toys by myself, and would make elaborate games with said toys. I had a habit when I was younger to gain very strong emotinal attachments to my toys and would hold onto them for literal years, and if I stopped playing with a toy but was well aware of it, and I left it for too long, I would give it to one of my younger siblings becaues I knew it would make them happy. My Woody equivalant (A teddy bear I got from my older sister when I was four) once got lost for about a year. I put her in a backpack with a BUNCH of other toys I love and somehow lost the bag. A year later we were cleaning out a small crawlspace in our house, and as soon as I saw that backpack I started freaking out with excitement, then I walked around with my bear for days on end. I never forgot about her, I simply misplaced her for a bit, and was overjoyed to find her again, which should have happened with Woody and Bonnie. That's how kids like us act. Now, fast forwad, I am an almost 24 year old woman, and my teddy bear still sits on my bed to keep me company every night. I never let her go after our one year apart, and I don't believe I'll ever give her up. (I am child free.)
Dude I always knew i couldn't give up my toys to someone because I felt they wouldn't appreciate them like i would. In between the age of 3-6 we do go through a memory wipe of our infantile stage. We are given so many toys and it's easy to forget others exist
Literally the only good thing about this movie is the amazing animation. Unfortunately, that doesn’t excuse the bad writing and the absolute atrocity that is the character assassination of Woody, Buzz, and Jessie
