I'm an automotive diagnostic specialist. Do not put the grease like that as it'll just make the coil work harder and kill its lifespan because it has to fight to get through the grease. If you want to use grease, put it on the porcelain of the spark plug only and that's it

Do not pack spark plug boot with dielectric silicone grease. I did this when I didn't know better, and on the 2nd spark plug replacement after 100k miles, I found some of silicone grease actually hardened like silicone sealant, which is a good insulator. It took me a while to clean it off the boot and spring inside. Only use a thin layer of dielectric grease ceramic part of the spark plug. That is not what dielectric grease is for. You should never put dielectric grease where the two surfaces touch. Because dielectric grease does not conduct electricity. That's like saying I smear it all over the battery posts in my car. So so the cables come easily. It is not a lubricant. Corrosion inhibitor. So you would use it after you place your terminal on the post of a battery or an electrical to count the outside surfaces to prevent corrosion. You can think of it like paint. You wouldn't spray the top of your battery terminals before you put the connector on. Lol 😆

Idk about this age old "myth" of using dielectric grease. I work for a heavy equipment repair company and a lot of the equipment has electronics on it. All the connectors come with that goop in it. We have discovered when it starts to have issues take electronics cleaner and spray all the grease out. Bam no more issues. It may have good "non stick" properties but outside of that I'd be careful where you use it
@williamvaughan1218
@williamvaughan1218 Год назад
No never use anything on cool boots. The silicone grease creates a medium for combustion gasses to react with it and cause a misfire and carbon tracking eventually and attracts contaminants. That boot is easy to remove with a probe. With 100000 mile plug change intervals you don't want to be going back because you wanted to reuse a 7 dollar coil boot. Think about it your power line before your transformer runs around 17000 volts todays ign system can run as high as 50000. In fact perfectly clean your plug insulators and then never touch them by hand always use a new boot with nothing on it before that make sure your plug tube is clean so water and dirt cannot get in there. They sure will sell you all kinds of stuff but if you don't want to go back there make sure your plugs are secure and your plug insulators uncontaminated.
@ToolDemos
@ToolDemos Год назад
Food for thought. Thanks.
@midnightrider1854
@midnightrider1854 Год назад
I love your line of thinking but the silicone rubber does in fact break down from the outside elements as well as the heat cycles from the engine. If you live near a salty area with a lot of corrosion or a very hot running engine then this stuff, in my opinion, is worth its weight in gold. I've used it professionally for over 35yrs. I've never seen one negative side effect as of today.
