I mean, to be fair, Detective Pikachu is considered overall to be a solid, good, fun movie. The Pokémon in live action look great for the most part, and while yeah, it's weird that Detective Pikachu was their choice for making into a movie, it also makes the most sense since making a movie about collecting gym badges would be weird to adapt. Just thought it would be cool to point that out. Also, the movie grossed over $450 million at the box office, so it was a success. Just want to let know of this, but yeah.
Jim Carrey came out of his retirement to do Sonic 3, he loves the role/Sonic and said he would keep doing it. Only sequel he does and enjoys (even the 2nd D&D he did only for a favor and Jared doing it). It really shines in his role, brings back the over the top long ago Carrey.
For over 20 years, I’ve been seeing comic book movies with my dad and younger brother because they are fans of superheroes. They are a lot of fun, but I’m getting burned out by them. Since I’m a gaming nerd, seeing video game movies and shows getting better than before is exciting. I’d say for the next decade, it is going to be very interesting.
I'd definitely argue that the detective Pikachu movie was the start of the incline of good video game movies . Sure the story wasn't amazing but the bar was so dam low the fact that the movie really felt like it was part of the Pokemon universe and not a half ass Hollywood write off really made it stand out at the time. At least for advocate Pokemon fans such as myself whose been watching their anime movies forever now . That being said I also feel like detective Pikachu gave movies the wrong idea when it comes to voice acting. Ryan Reynolds playing Pikachu was really funny and unique at the time especially at the height of his popularity. But then they tried to capitalize this by using Chris Pratt over and over (looking at you Garfield movie) to the point where the notoriety had faded.
Probably they use DP as an experiment if an Nintendo (and TPC) IP could success and it did so they have confidence that if Pikachu and Pokémon could so goes to Mario and it did.
11:37 personality I think the first poppy playtime chapter is not the best but the more recent chapters are pretty good I don’t know if the film will be good
sure video game movies have been improving i recent years but i still feel the video game movie curse hasn't exactly been broken yet the uncharted movie failed to capture the vibe of the source material, for all the good that came out of the suepr mario bors movie there was also a lot of bad that IMO overshadowed the good and the five nights at freddys movie REALLY has people divided!
As someone who grew up playing video games and not reading comics, I am so glad video game movies are starting to become great for the most part. I was getting sick of all the Marvel and DC movies. Heck, I still havent watched Infinity War and Endgame (though I do know how they end). Hopefully we get more good video game movies
DP was the best approach it was the game that translated the best and everyone loved Ryan as pikachu I don’t think the halo show is that bad I liked their unique approach
