I was living in Toronto during Vince's rookie season, and was fortunate enough to see Vince play in person around 20 times over the next couple seasons. The excitement he brought to the franchise was unmatched. Vince was the most popular player in the NBA, over Kobe, Shaq, Duncan, KG, etc. That era made me a Raptors fan for life. You can take Vince's top 100 dunks out of the highlight reel, show numbers 101-200 and it's still the best top 100 dunks of anyone! The thing with Vince's dunks is it wasn't just quality, it was quantity. He was windmilling all over the place, every game, on everyone. Except maybe Shaq. I'm in favor of retiring the number. But, fan favorites Jorge Garbajosa and Amir Johnson also wore #15 for the Raptors. Amir especially gets an honorable mention. He was key during the Kyle and DeMar years, a winner and a plus minus leader, and helped establish a culture that ultimately led to the championship.

I lived in and around toronto during the same time period. Shame they way the new teams were treated back then. If we had all these new rules and salary things things could have been way different for all the stars we drafted and then eventually lost. Vince, tmac, chris bosch are some of the earlier ones i remember that this happened to
@ywtcc
@ywtcc 15 дней назад
@@shivx1 TMac was the heartbreaker for me. When Vince was traded the team was no good, and it seemed clear to me he was on the way out since at least the end of the previous season. I wasn't happy with the trade package, and how it played out, but it wasn't like him staying would have made the Raptors good. With Bosh, it seemed that the Raptors were going to be a middling team unless they got a free agent. It was a long shot for that team to be much better than it was. With TMac it looked like the Raptors had a championship future with him and Vince on the wings. Also, the most exciting, entertaining team in basketball. Such a shame when he left for Orlando! Grant Hill got hurt, and it didn't really work out for him there in terms of team success. I still think he should have stuck around. The nonsense going around that he and Vince couldn't figure it out was BS.

You can't talk about who's the most athletic player ever without talking about Vince Carter. His biggest attributes are his ability to move with such ease, along with a legendary vertical leap. And was probably the most naturally gifted in terms of athleticism+skills. But as a Pire Athlete? Wilt Chamberlain is the greatest physical specimen of the last 100 + years if not longer. Then there's everyone after that. Lebron James, Michael Jordan, David Robinson, Shaquille O'Neal, Dwight Howard, Bill Russell, Hakeem Olajuwon, Allen Iverson, Vince Carter, Shawn Kemp, Dominique Wilkins

The fact he can dribble a ball from end to end in 4 seconds, spine through the lane like whirling dervish and then land like a ballerina, can beat quarfs with quickness and then jump from the free throw line at 280 puts him in a rare class. Also,Derrick Rose was the fastest and quickness NBA player ever at best. Nobody has more g-force going through thisr body in terms of explosiveness. There are other NBA players with a higher vertical than Vince but what sets him apart is his creativity. He just doesn't go straight up and slam it every chance he gets. The degree of difficulty of some of his highlight finishes are off the charts. My first exposure with him was during his rookie year against the pacers. Drove baseline against Chris Mullin, then finished with the reverse double pump on the opposite side. I just lost it after I saw him do that dunk.

I don't think anyone was necessarily more athletic, BUT there are some peers in this similar athletic circle! DRose, Westbrook, and a couple other guys were really athletic! I mean MJ was about that Life. There have been some athletic guys who were not famous and as good of a basketball player as Vince, BUT these guys were in the range. I will say he is the BEST in the game dunker. Also, I saw a dunk he did while STILL a student at Carolina. He caught an alley oop outside of the paint coming from the right baseline and it looks like he was flying from the right out of bounds to dunk with authority from that lateral approach. Insane, because it was or it seemed like he was in the air an inordinate amount of time.

As a Raptors fan I can see why we havent retired his number yet but for the Nets to retire a player's number for only 4.5 year sof service is absurd. It wouldnt surprise me if this has to do with more about politics behind the scenes between the two organizations than it has to do with honoring Vince.

Wilt embodied every athletic category. He’s got the insane track numbers. He’s the top in strength in nba history. Could run a 4 6 40 yard dash. Could play every minute of a game with ease he was top in endurance. He’s number 1. I wouldn’t even take Vince at his position alone as a number 1. That would go to Michael Jordan. MJ was top in his position for strength and he could run a 4.3 40 him and Carter probably identical verticals though I think MJ be lil higher in that. Then endurance MJ blows him out of the water.

The physicality of the game wore on him. Vince got tired of taking them beatings so he turned into a jump shooter
