The last part about how the song may also be about Soyeon's experiences makes a lot of sense, since she has said before that she really wants to get married and find someone to love, when asked who she thought would be the first to marry from (G)I-dle she said she would be amongst the first, I think she does have this really soft teenage-like yearning for love side which leeked through the song

I love your explanation, it's really clear and interesting ! I have another thought about the ending of the song. She said that it's better to let that moment pass because she hates being in pain, so if we focus on the movie, doesn't it mean that she doesn't speak to the stranger when they cross way ? (in the movie, the boy call out for the girl, asking if they met before.) The ending of the song seems more bitter than the movie one's and the one you interpret, because it feels like even though something incredible happened to her (meeting a stranger that she longed for even though thinking about it makes her want to throw up), she doesn't act on it. She lets the stranger pass by and keep going in her exausting life. To me it feels like an acte manqué, a missing shot, rather than a new beginning like you said. I'm still confused about the whole song message (aside the inspiration of Your Name) : rather than seeing this meeting as an opportunity, it seems to become a curse that she wanna avoid by letting the moment pass and not thinking about it.

TQ for this perspective. I had no clue but I did know this was one of Idle's best songs ever as soon as I heard it. So good I first thought it was a cover of a classic kpop mega-hit. A gem of a song in what has otherwise been Idle's weakest year for song production IMHO.

A major factor for fate being so liked by Korea and subsequently then the international audience is the fact that it’s in Korean. Recently all Korean songs have become really big in Korea, Fate and Bam Yang Gang by Bibi. I saw a bunch of K netz talking about a song finally being in Korean. Kpop used to be mainly Korean, even in 2015, songs were probably 90% Korean. And contrary to popular belief most Koreans only speak or understand Korean. Yes a lot of them will learn some english, but for the average person? Most just use Korean and some adopted English words. I can see some other major kpop groups trying this and being successful very soon. I mean it’s happened before, even in 2018-2021 there’s been lesser known groups who had their almost full Korean songs go viral in Korea. N flying, brave girls, and so many other cases. Korea do love Korean songs and people wonder why kpop has started to wane recently. Idols are actually imo better looking than ever, they are dancing well too. Apart from the vocal issue many face, a lot of these idols are actually “more perfect” than previous idols. Yet kpop seems to be less and less popular in Korea recently, and even big hitters in Korea have slowed down. Twice used to be really massive in Korea, however since their English releases their popularity seems to have taken a huge fall. Blackpink also faced this issue in Korea, not that they aren’t popular, but their releases from 2016-2019 were doing a lot better in Korea than their newer songs. Bts’ old songs are always trending, however their newer music climb to the top but then start falling. Imo Koreans still love Korean lyrics and will continue to let those groups do better if they get a good song that’s in full Korean.
