Why can't we get a straight story on this actress? I too have read the account of her death by drowning in the toilet only to find out much later that this was most likely just a made up story. Some people will write anything just to get their work published, then we just take what they've written as absolute fact. The book where I first heard this story was by a Kenneth Anger? I think that was the name, only to find out years later that many of the tales he wrote of were greatly exaggerated or only half truths.
i’m so disappointed in this video. it’s presenting the lie that lupe velez died by drowning in her toilet as fact. everybody knows by now that that was made up by kenneth anger. it’s so unfair to lupe.
The toilet story is an urban legend. The coroner said that after 75 Seconal tablets it’s unlikely she would have been able to walk to the bathroom. Great story though.
Lupe committed suicide because she became pregnant by a boyfriend named Harald. Back in Lupe's day, being pregnant and unmarried was very frowned upon. She did leave a note saying she didn't want to bring shame on her baby or kill them.
@@arielbonzai462 The toilet scene was a terrible lie. Her body was found in her bed by her assistant. Some writers want a leg up on their competition so they make up salacious stories to gain readers. Sad.
Beautiful, Talented woman----but Emotionally Unstable. Nonetheless, Lupe has fascinating Star text and reputation. Because of the prevailing ideological notions that Mexicans were not considered fully "White" in America, Lupe was indeed stereotyped but made the most of these practices. She was cast as a lot roles as Non-White "Ethnic women"----East and Pacific Asians, Indigenous Natives, Romani Gypsies, Greek, a Half-Caste Afro-Portuguese woman. She was not considered as "socially acceptable" as Dolores Del Rio, her more Aristocratic and "Lady-like" rival.

Wasnt she in love with Tarzan. Johnny Wiiesmuller was the best ever Tarzan. I recall her being in Marx Bros episodes with Groucho's quip full of innuendo me too wound hate as much as they hated women like Lupe.Though an unreliable narrator to be sure Kenneth Anger is the prevailing version to be sure. He never mentioned and children or lupes altruism and business ventures . He swelled on details of her suicide saying she was pregnant and wasted when she puked all the spicey food and sangria . It didn't agree with sleepers . It is suggested she was all decked out in her beautifully lingerie with candles kit and her face made. Seeing her in death that way would really give people something to talk about and Johnny would never get over it. Well she puked and slid in the mess Athena fell head first into the Lou. I wonder if it was a bidet. She was not even 30. I don't see her a suicidal. A drama queen yes .maybe experience told her shed puke before dying. And everything went according to plan except when she missed the bowl and slipped. I guess they gave a very glamorous send off anyway
I like some others only read and heard of her through the controversial book of Kenneth Anger. I watched this video as I have just started reading a new book by Eve Arnold " Strictly Dynamite"
I have known her name for many years, Mexican Spitfire is a title well known to me and yet I have never seen her or any of her movie roles. Damn I've missed out on a lot 😢
