A thing I don't get at all is literally every console player has mobile devices, so if they really wanted to play on bedrock (MCPE at that time) for crossplay they could have done that on mobile! If there's bedrock on console, no point in playing it since you can do that on mobile and PC aswell. Legacy console edition however had unique features which we all know and is the reason we love it.

You're absolutely right but it's not just that, bedrock edition was originally pocket edition which I actually did play as a kid in 2014 but I digress it's so sad to see my childhood game turning into Roblox thanks to Microsoft. Miss the days of legacy console edition. Bedrock will never be the same and it will never be as good as the legacy editions no matter how much money it brings

I dont hate Pocket Edition/Bedrock Edition as its own thing, in fact Pocket Edition was my first ever introduction and experience to minecraft back in 2013 when it was still in alpha, alpha 0.7.2 to be exact. My issue with it is the promises and announcements that they say they're working on and will come out, but never do, the super duper graphics pack got canceled, and the Ray Tracing idea hasnt gone anywhere to my knowledge (i know the switch isnt capable of ray tracing all together mostly because its an 8th gen console and it doesnt have the technology for it), im glad we have the Deffered Rendering but it just feels weird.

I personally have a theory that the reason they cancelled Console Edition is because they couldn’t monetize it like Bedrock is now

You know what I think should’ve been done? If there was some way to combine the Java and Bedrock Editions together for the console version of “Minecraft”. I remember when I first owned the physical copy of the Xbox One version, it stuck with the Java edition. Nowadays, I seem to end up with the Bedrock Edition despite paying for the Glider Racing DLC.

Because Microsoft really wanted to put their laggy bedrock engine on everything. Current bedrock is just layers on layers. OreUI on top of JSON UI on top of Legacy PE ui. Countless of discontinued features just remaining in the code. Bedrock still has it's basic API calls function through a code written by Aron Nieminen in 2011.

It’s one thing to kill off the console edition but it’s another to replace it with a version that really is still inferior several years later. Besides new updates, Bedrock Edition still very much feels like the pocket edition except with it being on the big screen and the controller in your hand but it never feels like care was put into the console experience. Had they done stuff like bringing the mini games over or keeping 4J around to help work things out for consoles or worked on parity between the two versions it would have helped the transition go a lot smoother. But as of today, I still main the version that’s 7 years dead and only occasionally play Java whenever my friend wants to play. And Microsoft is very much wanting to kill of the Java Edition too, it’s just that Mojang and the players keep it alive.

@@Good_Gamez you’d have to kill 6 of the versions and make 1 version the main version cross platform, or you could make bedrock edition and play with PC mobile. As a company would you spend more money for less features? Makes no sense. Think.

I wish they didn’t replace it as it was one of the best versions of the game. Now it got replaced with a buggy port of a mobile game.

Here is a theory on why it was cancelled It was probably because they wanted to release updates on all editions at the same time but since Minecraft had 3 version not 2 that would take triple the time so they decided to combine pocket and console edition into one version
@user-od2qc2od1y
@user-od2qc2od1y 27 дней назад
Due to world size limitations and each game basically being updated at different times cross compatibility would be EXTREMELY hard not impossible but it would be VERY hard Bedrock edition all platforms update at the same time and they all play by the same world size rules so crossplay is pretty much effortless
@Good_Gamez
@Good_Gamez 27 дней назад
They could've reworked their development strategy to incorporate all editions. I mean, that's what they're doing with Bedrock now. Also, for world size limitations, I don't see Xbox360/Wii U/PS3/Vita being continued forever. Those would probably be phased out and 4J would develop the 3 remaining editions.

@@Good_Gamez Now that is something I can see I do have fond memories of legacy console I did not play the old legacy console but I played a lot of PS4 edition before it was phased out It's a shame what happened to legacy console because even though Bedrock edition normally runs so well...ON CONSOLE IT SUCKS I do not know what it is but Bedrock on console is SO DELAYED it does not matter what console you play it on! I swear this issue was not a thing in legacy I played legacy PS4 all the time

In a nutshell, Minecraft Console was cancelled because of Microsoft's greed. Microsoft are truly evil for replacing such a great version of the game with one that no one likes.

Interesting. However, I have a counter-theory: When Microsoft bought Activision back in 2022, they claimed that their subsidaries were operated autonomously, and that the studios would decide what to focus their efforts on, with Microsoft just handing them the money to carry out their projects and taking credit if it turns out successful and profitable. It's exactly why for instance we've haven't seen another game for Banjo-Kazooie, despite fans wanting one for years: It's because the original developer ( Rare ) don't want to develop another such game, and Microsoft respected that decision. With that logic, it would actually be Mojang's decision to end LCE, not Microsoft. There's evidence to back up such claim. Mojang developers recently admitted that Microsoft were hardly even interacting with the studio in the first year following the acquisition. During this period, Windows 10 Edition had came out, and at Minecon 2015 they literally announced that they would intend to get Pocket Edition on all devices. If what they said was true, there would be almost no way Microsoft would be involved with those 2 moves. There may be reasons as to why Mojang wanted to replace LCE with Bedrock: - One of the most common complaints for LCE back in the day was that the worlds were limited in size. Also, if you happened to have a friend who had a different console, you couldn't cross-play with each other. By bringing the PE over to Console, Mojang would solve those complaints, among others. - Mojang may have always wanted to have PE and Console together. The problem was that in the early 2010s, when Minecraft was starting to gain popularity, the only consoles available at the time were the Xbox 360/PS3, which had limited hardware and were already in their waning years. With Xbox One/PS4 on the horizon, Mojang probably waited until enough players moved over, then they made the big move to merge PE and Console together. - If it was truly Microsoft's decision to end LCE, they've would've for sure ended PC/Java at the same time. It would've been the perfect time to do so, since sales for Minecraft were dipping since the 1.9 Update in February 2016 and they could've spinned the move as "cleaning house".
@Good_Gamez
@Good_Gamez 2 месяца назад
Valid argument, but I think a counter to this argument would be that ever since Microsoft took over, Mojang hasn't been able to release updates as frequently as they used to. I believe that this is because Microsoft has some form of control over updates that do get released and what features are within them. Basically, more 'quality control' over what gets put out. I mean look at what mojang can do if they're given full creative freedom, the Potato Update is the perfect example of that. No regulations or restrictions, just an update filled to the brim with wacky ideas
@aaronratliff338
@aaronratliff338 2 месяца назад
@@Good_Gamez I don't think Microsoft would want to hold Mojang back on updates because updates bring attention to the game, which inevitably means more sales to the game. More likely why Mojang aren't updating as much now are the following: 1) Mojang has a LOT more employees now compared to when the company was under Notch's control. This is simply because they now have the money to afford those new workers. While that definitely adds value to the company, there's also significant drawbacks when you hire too much ( which all of Tech has admittedly done in the last several years ). Once upon a time, when Mojang had only a few employees, any differences in development could be easily solved over a lunch or coffee break. Now, when you have hundreds of people now working on the game, it's much more difficult to solve any differences in development and it takes longer, simply because now there's more opinions to consider in the discussions. On top of that, a lot of the older workers, which need to be present to supervise the younger counterparts, can't be as active as they used to be, as they may have families now or they're semi-retired. Gone are the days when the developers could pull off 60-hour weeks leading up to a major release because now they have kids to take care of. Even the new people they're hiring tend to be older than when the OG developers started Minecraft because now Mojang wants to make sure they hire workers who know what they're doing, and the only real way to prove that is years of experience on other projects, this means even the junior developers may have kids as well. This is a big reason why now you see only 1-2 updates per year now compare to the 3-4 updates we saw before 2014 ( and even then, that's a little fools gold because 1.1, 1.2, and 1.6 weren't really big updates by today's standards ). 2) The Potato Update was only for Java Edition, which is much more easy to code and push updates on than Bedrock Edition. On Java, developers only have to worry about 3 platforms ( Windows, Mac, and Linux ) Whereas on Bedrock, you have to worry about Windows, Xbox, Playstation, Switch, iOS, and Android, among others. Just because a feature may work well on one platform doesn't mean it'll do so on all other platforms, and that's simply something developers have to work around. On top of that, all Java platforms have access to previews of coming updates via snapshots, where all Java players can report bugs to Mojang and they'll promptly fix them. On Bedrock, while you do have Beta testing, not all platforms have Beta available (e.g. iOS, Switch, and I think PS4 as well ) so Mojang has to be extra vigilent of bugs on those platforms, since they won't be seen on there until after the update is released everywhere else. Also, when you look at the Potato Update, the big thing they did was add a new dimension, which is cool of course, but if you know anything about datapacks on Java, you'll know it's incredibly easy to make new dimensions and manipulate existing ones.
