Let me tell you, the film "Muqaddar Ka Alexander" was such a big hit that people used to wait in queues to book tickets for the film. Sometimes she would sleep the whole night in front of the cinema hall waiting for the crowded tickets.
What's more, "Muqaddar Ka Alexander" was a foreign blockbuster film in the Soviet Union also.
The film Muqaddar Ka Alexander starring Amitabh tells the story of Alexander, an orphan growing up in Malin, Bombay. The film is largely inspired by Starr's novel Devdas (1917). And also from the French play Cyrano de Bergerac.
Muqaddar Ka Alexander was nominated for nine Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, at the 26th Filmfare Awards, but did not win in any category. This classic film was remade as Prema Tarangalu (1980), and in Tamil as Amara Kaavyam (1981). This was the last film in which Amitabh and Vinod Khanna were seen together.

Actually Rekha was busy shooting some other film abroad, and time was passing, so producer director Prakash Mehra had decided to replace Rekha with actress Reena Roy in this film. But when Rekha came to know that she was being replaced, she immediately came back to India and started shooting. Then Prakash Mehra removed his complaint by replacing Parveen Babi with Reena Roy in his next film 'Jwalamukhi'.
