Social media is 1,000,000% a curse. It is where the least educated profess their ignorance to one another. The internet as a whole is a blessing and a curse. The idea that all information ever is accessible is amazing! However it did not take long for Satan to hijack it and turn it from "The Information Superhighway" to The Disinformation Superhighway. Easiest way to gaslight and mislead people.

This wasn’t claiming ‘the truth’, but an addition to the ‘truth’ of the story we already have. It blows my mind though how so many here believe a child born of a ‘virgin’ (which is only a mistranslation, btw) is the one and only son of god, yet god himself, who was murdered to wipe out all of the bad things in the world to make it all better, because we’re all bad even though god also said that we are not responsible for the sins of our parents, completely contradicting himself, when if he really was god he could have just saved himself really proving the whole world that he was what he claimed….. yet cannot possibly fathom that there were other stories that got taken out of the Bible that are equally as valid as the ones what actually made it to our current day printed editions. Instead they want to only include what we have as proof and not willing to accept anything else as ‘facts’ when our Bible today is quite obviously heavily edited already and no one wants to acknowledge that.

Each book of the Bible, at least the canonical ones inspired by God, were written by either people who were present much closer to the time (e.g. Moses for the first five books) or by eye witnesses (New Testament). Also, the books of the apocrypha were noted as not canonical and not the same as scripture by Josephus who lived from between 37-100 AD, who was a Jewish historian. Exactly. When I was reading it all I was thinking of is they were babies. Which makes sense. Like when the angels gave them figs to eat and they were afraid of the figs incase something bad happened to them again. What I think is a contradiction compared to the bible is that it suggests that they were never meant to eat, then because of their fallen state they had to eat. But we know from the bible even before the fall they were to eat from the other trees.

@@kray3883 The Bible's development is exactly like some modern media. The translation process and the very many mistakes, tribalism for certain versions that come along with it, as well as the Documentary Hypothesis looks *VERY* similar to the translation developments of many anime and manga series. You can very easily see the influences that Dragon Ball had on modern action anime and manga for young boys. But that series started out as a parody of Journey to the West and also had a whole lot of influences from things like Fist of the North Star, Superman, and the Terminator in its later, but more popular half. Not many kids nowadays know about that first half, but so many people can recognize a Kamehameha and power ups through transformations. We also see problems that arise because certain jokes didn't translate well from the original Japanese and there are some differences between the anime and manga that affects the story somewhat.

It’s very hard for Christians and other gentiles to truly understand the Bible when they both have only been fed lies. Jeremiah 16:19 19 O Lord, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit. Only blood line descendants of those that wrote the Bible can say what is relevant or not. I promise you they will say that it is all relevant. It’s like having a stranger come into your house and take one of your photo albums and put their own pictures in it and put their faces where your faces are. The Bible is a history book of one particular people. It’s their photo album. Salvation is for all, but Christians need to stop claiming the promises of Jacob. Based on scriptures the one they call Jesus would completely ignore most Christians. Matthew 15 That’s what happens when you steal someone else’s history. Rev 2:9 and 3:9

@Sewblon I was raised christian and felt certain it to be the exclusive truth for a time. Then, I studied philosophy in school which showed me a ton of other world views, and how throughout history anytime a philosopher would present a new idea, 10 more would appear and, with varying degrees of success, explain why it was wrong and how another way of thinking was superior. In the following years, I have studied and even practiced many different world religions and ideologies. The more I've discovered, the more I've realized that although each one has it's merits and demerits, it is less and less likely that one of them is fundamentally true, renderring all other contradictory views false. I remember this bothering me for a time, but now I have come to accept that I just dont know, and it's possible that I may never know anything with certainty, and that's ok. In fact, I've grown to find that it can be quite liberating, as I continue an exploration of our mystery without the burden of needing to know for sure what's ultimately going on.

That’s a later Protestant usage of the term intended to sideline these books which the Church, East and West, had accepted as scripture for a little over a thousand years as you had noted. I think a big problem is that Apocrypha is kind of a less clear term than Deuterocanonical. Cuz when I hear "the apocrypha" I imagine any apocryphal books rather than specifically the Deuterocanon.

@xx99Username99xx
@xx99Username99xx 6 месяцев назад
I wish Dan had clarified this distinction because I was a little confused hearing him use "the Apocrypha" so narrowly. You do see it used to refer to that specific set of books in the names of some Bible editions, e.g. "The New Oxford Annotated Bible with the Apocrypha," but outside that context, I generally see Deuterocanon as the preferred term for those apocrypha in particular and the term apocrypha itself used to refer to pretty much any religious work not included in the generally accepted canon of the religion in question. If I hear a layman say the word, I certainly wouldn't assume they meant *the* capital-A Apocrypha. (Though given how she describes them as "banned from the Bible," the woman in the video might legitimately be under the impression that the Book of Adam and Eve had something like Deuterocanonical status.)

Just a minor correction. Apocrypha as it was originally understood before Martin Luther applied it to the Deuterocanon was a term applied to Bible-adjacent text that the Catholic and Orthodox churches did not consider scripture but did not suppress either. These include things like the Protoevangelium of James, History of Joseph the Carpenter, Acts of Paul and Thecla, and some Apocalypses written in similar style to the Apocalypse of John of Patmos (Revelation) in the Bible. Basically Bible fanfic that skirt heretical territory but still considered acceptable by the established church. The Deuterocanon is also traditionally read for daily masses (3rd week of November 2023 was all Wisdom of Solomon followed by an entire week of Maccabees) and occasionally for Sunday mass (Sirach for Sep. 17, 2023).

Another important aspect behind the selection of the 66 books of the Bible was that they consisted of the books that were established in the official Greek translation of the day (the Septuagint) and that the New Testament books/letters were chosen on the sole basis of having a direct eyewitness connection to Jesus. Many of the other good writings (like those from the Nicene Fathers) were excluded from the original canonization for this primary reason.

The age of figures in the Bible is an interesting one. There’s a graph of ages of the people - and what is clear, before the flood of Noah, people lived much longer. Once the flood came, the people lived 1/3 of the years as before. Something happened in that flood that drastically changed the environmen. What was speculated is that there was a supercharged 10cm layer of ice above the sky - which would increase oxygen saturation and pressure (basically a hyperbaric chamber conditions). Josephus talks of this ice in his writings, that was the thickness of his hand. This layer of ice would have reflect all UV light so the sun wouldn’t cause as much damage. Added to this, our DNa is degrading over time, we’re copies of copies of copies. Methusalel as a person is also fascinating, his name means “his death shall bring” and the year he died, Noah’s flood came and destroyed the world. It seems to me, long life is a blessing and a mercy on the world. As with methusalel, god extended and extended his life until there was no option but to destroy his creation.
