Hitchcock had a house in my home town. He was extremely unattractive and had no insight that women don't want him. She had no legal protection. Tippi has done great work rescuing great cats and retired movie animals. I also prefer animal company often because they don't manipulate or gaslight you. What you see is what you get with them. Her husband donated a large park in the LA area called Griffith park and sometimes you can see surviving Ca mountain lions living in the area and avoiding the freeway.

Was struck by one particular scene in The Birds-the one where the man lit a cigarette at the gas station causing an explosion-the camera showed stills of Tippi's look of horror. I always wondered why she didn't make more movies and it was because of that lecherous Hitchcock. Of course, if Hitch had been good looking and young the starlets would have been harassing him.

@@lilajagears8317 I agree. He had a tv show back in the 50s which I always watched. Who could not be moved by Psycho? Killing off the beautiful "heroine" quickly. I remember watching the movie The Girl about Hitchcock's obsession with Tippi Hedren. It was rather shocking how no one came to her defense against him but I guess since Hitchcock was such a successful and wealthy person, they let him get away with anything. It is a good thing that actors are no longer contracted to movie studios and directors. As independent contractors, they get to decide which projects they wish to pursue and audition for.

How awful, to be an animal lover and have the birds treated so cruelly. You made clear how her acting career was ruined, making me wonder…. She appears to have had a lot of money long into her life, given the lions and such she cared for. If I’m right, do we know how she maintained such a high income? I understand she was paid 7 years even if not acting. But it appears she maintained quite a fortunate lifestyle. Thank you.

Tippy was absolutely lovely. She struggled to support her daughter and herself under the obsessive, watchful eye of Hitchcock. I am really shocked to learn he behaved this way toward her. I wonder if he would have dared to treat this young, talented starlet the same way if she'd had a husband, especially one who wasn't afraid to step in and say "back off" to Hitchcock. Poor thing but, sadly, those were the times. May she rest in peace.

I think these actresses of the past had their own set of challenges and it's too bad Americans never wondered back then how these talented actresses were being treated during filming. It must have been a hush don't talk don't tell attitude in Hollywood because they were threatened that their career would be ruined if they told anyone. Decade ago I was looking into the deeper layer of things in this country and found out how terrible these young women and child actors...male and female....were treated. Many sexually hurassed and some raped ... probably more than we'll ever know. I always wondered why so many child actors and young actors turned to drugs and alcohol. It wasn't just bc of the stress of the job and being famous. It was bc of their treatment....the severe abuse. Long abusive hours on the sets and they were sitting ducks to all the pervs in Hollywood. I'm happy for them that the truth is finally coming out but it's a little too late for many. Plus how mysterious so many of these stars and music industry singers up and killed themselves. And the 27 club. 🤔 I'm sure we will never know how deep the horrors went for these people. And to top it off, you had to join the psycho club or get ruined as an actor. And if you didn't become one of them then you probably were continually ostracized and never allowed to go to Hollywood social gatherings. I was ensnared in a cult at age 11. Sounds like Hollywood was a typical cult

Yes she was a beauty, more than that actually she was absolutely stunning. You'd think such natural beauty would be your answer to fame, wealth and fortune, she gained a starring role in a Hollywood Blockbuster and then you realise Alfred Hitchcock is pulling the strings and the torment begins. It reminds me of one of your other stories with the actress Shelley Duvall and her tormentor Stanley Kubrick. These men would be facing time behind bars today and it's taken us so long to put a stop to it but I'm sure it must still go on albeit not as prevalent. I do admire her work with her Big Cats Sanctuary but worry sometimes seeing her with her pet Lion, they do say you can never really fully domesticate a big cat but I'm sure she'll have nurtured him as a Cub and he knows Tippi is his mother. Another great video and thank you.

Her account of Hitchcock's obsession and how he treated her and the things he pulled is backed up by all of her co-stars from The Birds and Marnie. Numerous cast members, both male and female, have said that they were shocked and disturbed by the way that she was treated but they didn't have the power to say or do anything at the risk of losing their own careers. Diane Baker even said that after Tippie refused his advances on the set of Marnie he turned his attention to Diane and forcedly kissed her against her wishes in her dressing room.
