Was that straight section of road apart of the course or was it the entire course? Will he be making a loop back and forth over the same stretch of road? Or will he depart Into other roads and finish on that straight section?
I am being a bit picky, I know, but the essence of the original marathon was a journey from one place to another. The marathon Eliud is running is not a journey but a pre-arranged loop beginning and ending in the same place. I have a dilemma: I will applaud the man for running the marathon distance in less than two hours but feel a little short of 100% total admiration for all the pace-making, and other arrangements facilitating his attempt. Now, is Bekele running in the same event?? He was only 1 second off the current Eliud's time in Berlin recently and arguably, therefore, of the same level of ability. Pity not to see a sprint finish and seeing them both go under the two hours. Bekele not recovered in time from his efforts in Berlin I think. Whatever everyone's opinions on these matters, we wish him well.
Hey Ineos can you please advise when and what time this will take place so we can watch history being made when he breaks the 2hr barrier- also is RU-vid the only way to watch this event in Australia. Thanks ineos and go eluid kipchoge
My research as an athlete has proven its reality, one gets an old face wenever you are into athletics so much but wen you stop a bit you regain your baby face, look at kipchoge 35 years old and his face looking like that of a 62 year,i think the reason behind it is too much dehydration
Since normal training for him he runs marathons regularly in a week. If on first attempt he gets 1:59 will he keep trying to get faster 1:58? he is there a whole week!
For full recovery the body needs around 2-3 weeks so if he is giving really 100% what is suggest that he will be doing he won't do anything in the following 3 day after, before he is slowly starting to run again.
I thought he was racing Berlin or something, sorry but no matter if he gets it or not, it won’t be the same as if it was on a REAL race, if he makes it it will be a bittersweet “victory”, this seems more like a marketing thing for ineos
He’s already won a ridiculous amout of marathons in record breaking times. What need is there for him to prove he can win yet another one? Why not challenge himself with something different?
Certainly, it would be an amazing performance if he runs sub2. But it feels like a little cheat doing so, because it's not a real race. I believe, if an event like this would have existed for a couple of years now, the sub2 would already be achieved. So, its more dependent on the event, than the athlete.
I think you just have to keep it in the proper context. I think this will just remove the mental barrier. It could be 1:58+ if conditions are right. It will happen in Berlin soon enough. Bekele is just as big of a player as Eliod in sub 2...maybe even bigger .
Doing 2.01:39 or 2.01:41 in Berlin is possibly greater than fully wind blocked and controlled 1.59:59. It is still 100 seconds away which is huge gap. Maybe next generation shows will help as no one will ever touch Bekele's track records. I always remember the day watching 2008 Peking and Sammy Wanjiru clocked 2.06 without pacers, in heat and bad air quality also all alone using last generation shoes.. ..question is are these paced races in good conditions any greater than Olympic Record?
You amatures, dont know what the f you are talking about. As if perfect conditions enable a easy sub 2 hour run. He is running outside, asphalt, not in the wind aided tunnel on a boucy treadmill. Its only a matter of stupid iaaf rules - it wont be recognized as an official marathon record. Bekele is Goat 5к 10к, BUT when it comes to marathons he not quiet on Kipchoge's level yet.
To be fair to all races and athletes there are a some rules to make a record in this case the pacers and the course. But the record is not the point, the point is to see if a normal person with normal conditions can run a marathon above 2H. First the test to see if its possible and to see what´s the effort to do it. After that i believe he will try in Berlim. In the Olympics i think it´s impossible because of the temperature.
