The statement made that connects with me the most is "I will never want a piece of cheese as much as a mother cow wants to be with her baby calf." I used to be one who would say "It's the cheese that prevents me from going vegan. I can't do without cheese." Um, yes, I can. Thank you for a great video.

I've been a vegetarian for 6 months now still eating tons of dairy and eggs, thinking nothing of it. Just this week I discovered this channel and have been doing my research on the dairy industry and am absolutely horrified. I bawled my eyes out when I found out what happens to baby male chicks. I am now taking steps to start cutting out dairy completely and go vegan, so thank you for making these videos in a compassionate and educating way.

Can you at least continue eating eggs. You need animal products. That lady that was the longest-lived ate nothing but eggs everyday. Also, the chickens eat each other and cats eat thousands of mice in the wild? Are you going to bawl your eyes out when viewing videos of that too? What about bawling your eyes out at the millions of insects and small animals that get killed in vegetable and fruit crop fields? Why don't they show those inconvenient videos. Better stop eating those unnatural fruits and vegetables, those are the biggest animal destroyers. Also, those male chicks... are used to make cat food, so I guess those pet-owning vegans are a fan of those male chicks.
@clearmist7170
@clearmist7170 6 лет назад
thenecrohazard, but our mammalian ancestors were eating dinosaur eggs. Also, you do realize that the eggs we eat are completely infertible. Not, even living creatures.
@clearmist7170
@clearmist7170 6 лет назад
thenecroha, those male chicks are used to feed those cats that the vegans buy as pets. Male chicks are necessary to keep the pet industry alive, plus some male chicks also get used in chicken nuggets too. They're nutritious foods. You don't feel bad when the male chicks eat worms, so why are people concerned when they get eaten? Cats eat birds and mice and people love cats. Animals are food and are a complete nutritious food that we need, since vegetables and fruits are not enough to nourish us. Vegetables and fruits didn't even exist before human cultivation.
@joytotheworldddd

clear mist lol cats eat bird etc bla. But we as a human, we have our own morals and know what is right and wrong. Let me ask you, when you are asked to slaughter a animal yourself, how do you truthfully feel deep inside you. What you first feel shows how much you are not instinctively programmed to do it. You get it?

All those different "milks" are not actually milk. Plant-based products don't contain the same function or ingredients as mammal milk does. Mammal milk (breast milk, cow's milk, etc.) are able to be a complete nutrition to get a baby to become an adult. The plant-based milks, are actually just plant juice that happened to be colored whtie and look kind of life milk.

All the torture these gentle creatures go through is reason enough to not ever touch dairy. As women there is even more reason not to, the cows are raped their whole lives, having baby after baby stolen from them. They cry literal tears for weeks looking for their baby. If you wouldn’t want that done to you, then why would you contribute to doing those things to another living creature. I know I sound harsh, but it’s the reality.
@tamcon72
@tamcon72 6 лет назад
The sound is horrific. It's unnatural. Which makes sense, as it has an unnatural cause. I have heard dozens of cows screaming themselves hoarse at calving time at a local dairy farm. It was clearly paining the farm wife to hear it, so I thought, "Why am I participating in this heinous process? I can just walk away!" So I did.

I know that this sounds weird, but I consider myself lucky that a few months before I became vegan I developed a lactose intolerance and because of this it was easy to stop eating dairy. And once I stopped eating dairy because it was hurting me I started to research the effects of animal products on my body and the truth about animal industry, while researching a way to go vegan the healthier way. And I did it gradually and conscious and now, almost a year later, I feel better than ever :) And it was a process, but that process sparked my creativity in the kitchen also :)

Women produce dairy. What are you talking about? Dairy is what makes all mammals grow. You needed dairy as a baby.
@SarahWarman80
@SarahWarman80 6 лет назад
Did you watch the video? I don't produce milk, because I'm not having children. Cows are the same, meaning they are FORCED to have babies to produce milk. Then their babies are taken away from them, violently; the mothers then mourn them, of course. Then, it's a vicious cycle. I encourage you to look up Erin Janus, James Aspey or Bite Size Vegan. They can explain in a better manner than me. As far as "dairy" as a baby...Do you mean human babies need milk from a cow? This is incorrect. I know MANY babies, including my brother and I that were not raised on dairy. However, you are correct, dairy does make animals grow. Cow milk is made for only cows, so they can grow to 400+ pounds, which is another reason why humans don't need dairy. My comment as to why the dairy industry is the worst is because of the unnecessary violence, cruelty and production of a product thats not needed. Have you visited a dairy farm? They are horrific. I recommend visiting an animal sanctuary that has saved dairy cows and their babies. Let them explain to you, and try not to cry, about what goes on. I've spoken to many, and they all say the same thing, and they cry.
@clearmist7170
@clearmist7170 6 лет назад
Sarah Loves, well females can produce milk if it is induced (by having the baby). It's not like the cows are unnaturally being made to do something. The cows would be producing the milk and reproducing anyway, since all animals do that. It's only humans today that are able to choose not to have children. You're making it sound like the cow is not meant to produce milk. They are. The animals are being used, because we need them for food and nutriment. The same way the cow is ripping apart the baby grass, from the mommy grass. Or the cow is stomping on the baby beetle, in front of the mommy beetle. Or how the cow would eat a human carcass if it was in front of it as well. All animals recognize the value of meat, even herbivores. What I meant by all babies needing dairy was that all babies need the dairy that female humans produce... the breast milk. All humans require that animal product, which means they are not plant-based creatures and cannot live only on plants. We require animal products at the beginning of life. We need animal, because we are animal. We could farm female women and get the milk directly from breast milk to feed human adults, but it's actually probably safer to get them from cows, since they're a different species and there's less risk of getting a disease, which female women can have. It's like cannibalism. Would you drink the milk of your co-worker from 2 cubicles next to yours? Have you ever seen how animals eat each other and play with their foods? Maybe you just need to see how cats and dogs are in the wild, so you can see how bloody and ripped-to-shreds nature is. Humans are probably the most benevolent caretakers of animals. Plus, there is something sacred about understanding that humans eat animals and animals eat humans. We're food for worms. Likewise, plants and rocks and everything in the universe is the same as animal and humans. One is not better than another and that's another thing that ancient people understood. This idea that animals are somehow more special than plants is just not accurate.

i never thought i'd be vegan ever. i was vegetarian from 7th grade until 11th grade, then i started eating meat again. then one day (20 yrs old) i was casually browsing tumblr and i saw this rediculous post about a vegan eating 10lbs of lettuce and i wanted to find it just to make fun of it, but i ran across (most memorably) mic the vegan's youtube channel and i binge-watched his videos, then i decided to watch cowspiracy and forks over knives (all of this in one day) and went vegan overnight. from eating meat and everything to immediately dropping all my regular foods. then the next day i just binge-watched what i eat in a day videos so i could get a sense of what eating vegan looked like and i've never looked back (only about a year). my deal with myself is if i ever want to be not-vegan again, i need to watch cowspiracy all the way through, no covering my eyes, and still decide afterwards that i don't want to be vegan anymore.

I went from omnivore to vegetarian (for about year and a half) to vegan. It can definitely be a process. I never thought I'd be able to give up dairy products, but I feel so much better without them health-wise and for animals and the environment. There are such amazing vegan alternatives (we make our own cashew cheese and "nice cream", and it's SOOO good!). I really liked your comments too about feminism and veganism going hand in hand. As a mother (I was also a childbirth educator for 6 years and teach lactation classes), I cannot do anything that would make another mother (human or not) suffer because of my choices. All creatures should have autonomy over their own bodies and especially over their reproductive parts and processes. The Golden Rule (do unto others as you would have them do unto you) applies to every living being, and the more we live that, the more we can feel a greater sense of compassion and appreciation for this beautiful earth and all of God's creatures and their rights to live happy, healthy lives.
@clearmist7170
@clearmist7170 6 лет назад
So, you're gonna become breatharian next? No harm to any living creature and only breathe and absorb energy from the sun? Veganism doesn't solve the problems. Millions of insects and small animals get killed in those vegetable and fruit fields that are completely man-made and unnatural. Probably more than animal farming. Veganism kills off more animals, but leaves its adherents without the benefits of nutrition. It's like the worst of both worlds.
@jamiewagner7066
@jamiewagner7066 6 лет назад
I doubt that billions of rodents or insects are killed every year in farming. Farming is necessary for either growing plant foods or producing animal food, and the majority of the world's corn and soy goes to feeding animals instead of people. So really, it's more likely that rodents and insects are killed in animal agriculture (growing food for animals that will eventually go to slaughter) than in producing plant food for human consumption. Animals are also sentient beings. They have feelings, like pain, attachment and bonding, and love. Plants do not. Yes, if you want to be literal about it, some plants (with the exception of long-lasting trees and bushes) die each year when harvested, but even things like lettuce can regenerate if you don't completely pull it from the ground and just cut off the leaves you need, which means it can last even longer through the growing season. I know that veganism isn't perfect. No diet is, but I personally feel better knowing that what I eat isn't purposefully bringing suffering or death to other living beings. Yes, there might be accidental death in harvesting crops, but it's not like we're breeding rodents like we breed cows, pigs, and chickens, just to kill them a few years into their natural life span. It seems too like every week there's a buy one, get one free some kind of meat product at our local grocery store. At Thanksgiving they did that sale with turkeys. Often I see coupons for "buy a box of cereal, get a free milk." Obviously animal product production is bigger than necessary. I wonder how much of it actually gets thrown away, which means that that animal's life was completely wasted. It's also interesting that once someone says that they're vegan, everyone who isn't claims to be a nutritionist. I felt positive about my choice to stop eating animal products, but also wanted to make sure that I wouldn't be doing myself any long-term disservice (for myself or my family) by eliminating those products that we've been lead to believe are necessary for health. I just think it's interesting that so many people have expressed concern or disdain for my food choices, but don't even think about what they're eating as they go through McDonald's Drive Thru. Apparently dropping processed foods, animal products laden with mammalian hormones, saturated fat, and pesticides and switching it up for more fruits, veggies, and whole grains is more dangerous? It's evident that plant foods have a greater variety of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants (and the all important FIBER) than animal products do. I can get calcium from plants. I've never felt better than I do now. I'm at a healthy weight, I have more energy, I enjoy my food immensely, and I just feel grateful to be given this chance to change that I have been given. Everyone is definitely entitled to their own opinion, but for me, I feel good about my choice to eat a plant-based diet. This report shows the USDA numbers for livestock slaughter comparing just the months of January 2017 and January 2018. If you times the 2018 numbers by 12, you could get a rough estimate of how many of these animals are killed each year in the United States (so this doesn't show the worldwide stats): usda.mannlib.cornell.edu/usda/current/LiveSlau/LiveSlau-02-22-2018.pdf

clear mist This is so silly. What do you think the animals you are eating are fed? Crops from the fields that were harvested without consideration for the few wild animals that can survive in roundup monocultures. The animals omnivores are eating are at least as unnatural as the feed they are given. GMO soy and corn mostly, no matter what they would feed on in the wild etc.
@clearmist7170
@clearmist7170 6 лет назад
Jamie Wagner, I'm not saying I'm against food crops. Since, we live in civilized worlds, we have to use unnatural means to create food sources for ourselves. My point was in pointing out that these food crops, inevitably create huge no-go zones for animals and destroy all of the ecoysystems that were there. For animals, they don't just exclusively eat foods that humans can eat, but the advantage is that pigs and cows can often eat foods that we can't eat like leaves, grass and other foods that humans wouldn't like. In that sense, the animals are converting these foods that we otherwise wouldn't eat, into something that we can eat and benefit. The other issue, being that as humans we benefit from the animal meat, milk and egg themselves. The complexity and composition of animal products makes them more nutritious to us. We easily digest animal products, whereas plants require fermentation (which gorillas can do, but humans can't as easily). Plants also give out distress signals, feel a sense of community and are able to express contentness and are actively avoiding wanting to be eaten. They don't want to be eaten. That's enough proof that they're not actively making themselves out to be food. They actually aren't food, and wouldn't be edible to us at all, if we hadn't used our ingeniousness to create fruits and vegetables through the cultivation of strange mutations and generations of breeding. It's by change that we discovered and "made" veggies and fruits. Animals don't have the same capacity to understand things as we do. Plus, they know that they are food. I also don't think you would have quite as much compassion for them if the media and if domesticated didn't exist that could confuse you into thinking that they do feel human emotions and have a human-like consciousness. In the wild, cows, pigs, cats, dogs would all be attacking you and violently pursuing you at all times. Just like you withhold compassion for mosquitoes or a dangerous animal, you would do the same for all of these "domesticated animals." We've created an illusion that makes these animals seem like they're worthy of protection the way our own children are, but they're actually food. That's not to say that animals are not worthy of protection, since nothing should be purposely destroyed, whether plants or animals or rocks. That being said, animals are foods and we are animals and we evolved to eat animals. There's good reason to think we need them. Vegetables and fruits aren't acceptable substitutes, because they're a completely different kingdom of life form, do not contain all the cholesterol/saturated fats/CoQ12, etc. that animals do. Your body has probably accumulated a lot of nutrition from all the years of eating animal products, and that can hold a human off for many years. Meaning, you can eat animal products for years and then become vegan (starve yourself of nutrients) and you could be okay for awhile, but eventually, the idea is the body will start eating itself, because you are meat and the body needs meat.
@jamiewagner7066
@jamiewagner7066 6 лет назад
Wow. I'm not really sure how to comment on your comment, but there is so much misinformation here. Science has proven that we need plant foods to live healthy lives. Animal products, for example, do not contain any Vitamin C or fiber, both of which are found in plant foods. You can also easily get B Vitamins, Vitamin A, iron, calcium, and other vitamins, minerals, and fats from plant foods if you eat a variety of plants. If we just ate animals (which our teeth and digestive tracts are not even formed to do--- we are not carnivores), we'd be dealing with a multitude of health problems caused by all of that cholesterol and saturated fat that you mentioned. And it's not plants that ferment in our gut, but meat. The digestive tract of true carnivores is much shorter, and their stomach acid is much more acidic than ours in order to process meat. Carnivores also don't need to cook their meat for this reasons, like humans do in order to hopefully avoid food-borne illness and digest it. Some plants do have defense systems. We don't eat things like nettles and poison ivy, for example, but they do not have brains or nervous systems. They cannot feel pain, bonding, heartache, or joy. If you've been around animals much, you can tell that they know when they are being cared for by how they respond to you. Animals do not know they are food. Just like if I was out in the wild being chased by a lion, I wouldn't consider myself food, neither does a pig or cow or chicken. They just want to eat, breed, sleep, and live, just like we humans seek our own survival. A gazelle does not just sit there for a lion to come along and eat it. It has other motives in order to protect itself. Cows are herbivores. Pigs are omnivores, but they don't naturally chase people for food. Yes, land is used for growing plants, but it's not hard to find information showing that rainforests and other land has been destroyed for animal grazing and growing animal food (because farmers grow turn soil to nutrient-stripped dirt by planting the same crop (corn, wheat, and soy) over and over again on the same plot of land). The real illusion here is that animals do not care how we treat them because we are told we should not care about them (at least not the same way we care about dogs or cats as pets). We are stewards of this earth and its inhabitants, and it is our responsibility to defend those who have no voice for themselves. I personally feel that we breed and kill many more animals than we need to survive. If I was starving (which I'm not) like if there was some kind of famine, I would find what I could eat, plant or animal, and be grateful for it. But where I currently live and have an abundance of food options, I just don't feel the need to eat animals or their by-products. Since giving up animal products, I truly feel healthier than I have my whole life. I no longer deal with stomach problems, or even muscle inflammation like tendonitis, which I've had in my knees for years. My skin is clearer, I have more energy, and I am at a healthy weight. I also am no longer constipated, which is something that Americans spend millions of dollars every year trying to resolve, when they could just eat more vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. I've even had people guess I am 5-10 years younger than I am, and I attribute that to no longer eating animal products (which again, can cause bloating and inflammation). You can eat how you like, and that's fine. It's your choice, and it's a personal one. I am not trying to convince you to eat a vegan diet or anything. I'm just sharing what I know and how I feel. And besides, everyone, even those who choose to eat animal products, can stand to add some amazing plant foods to their diet. :)

This episode was so good. I was a vegetarian for seven years and I saw my health decline considerably. I was severely anemic, my blood pressure was always SO low, I felt tired all the time and my thyroid became underactive. I took B12, iron and folic acid supplements for an entire year, and they caused severe gastritis (The pain was intolerable, there were nights when I couldn't sleep). After a year, my iron levels were still very low. My doctor diagnosed me with chronic anemia, and he advised me to continue taking the supplements, to up my consumption of dairy and to consider eating meat again. To him, I would be severely malnourished if I went vegan and he really scared me about the health of bones on a vegan diet. I followed his advise for one more year (Only about supplements, luckily) and as my health declined more and more, I decided to try veganism anyways... needless to say, veganism "cured" my anemia and other underlining health issues I had in only one month. Never going back to dairy. :-)

That sounds so scary! My doctor was concerned with my Vitamin D levels so she actually helped me with D2 (vegan whereas D3 isn't). - She prescribed 50,000IU (yes, that is meant to say 50,000). It made me extremely sick and so lately I've been fortifying through Almond Milk since it the 50,000 was too much. Also I live in Oregon where there isn't much sun exposure this early in the year. - I hope that next time I get checked my Vitamin D is improved, but everything else was all normal. ^__^

I loved this video from you all. Nikki said it best, I will never want a piece of cheese more than the cow wants its' baby. Wow. I have been vegan for 2 1/2 years and this really hit home. Thank you. One other comment... I noticed that in your videos when you taste test you use plastic utensils. Have you considered using silverware or compostable utensils instead? Plastic is not good for the environment either. Keep up the amazing work ladies! This is by far one of my favorite RU-vid channels

Loved this video! People need to realize they are pushing this supply and demand. I love how I'm seeing a lot of people non dairy milks everywhere and people actually buying them. But people need to realize all the dairy and cheese by products in random foods because keeps you craving it like you girls said. For example, whey is milk protein and people drink for the protein. But people don't realize its milk.

I was vegetarian for 12+ years, I developed a dairy allergy/sensitivities which is what sent me to vegan channels and blogs to find recipes and I started watching the dairy industry and egg industry so I decided to make the jump to vegan. If I get dairy ( accidentally or restaurant uses butter when I asked for olive oil etc) I sometimes can’t breathe or I cough my head off or My stomach is so unhappy. If Iwoke up tomorrow and my dairy allergy was gone, knowing what I know, I wldnt go back. XO Davita

When I was growing up in Maine, my family personally knew a dairy farming family. I remember going in to the dairy warehouse where all of the cows are milked and he showed us how they are attached to the machine and how you have to apply a special salve to the teets so that they don't get raw. I was about 7 years old. I was oblivious. That was in the 70's. I didn't even KNOW that there were people who only ate plants. I also remember going into their how while waiting for my Dad to come pick me up after playing with their kids. They served me veal. I had no idea where it came from. My family eats a lot of meat. I didn't even know what an avocado was until I was 25. When I moved to California to go to college, I listened to a vegan podcast about how dairy farmers were trying to get the cows to produce even more milk, but what no one realized at first was that they weren't making extra milk. The cows were producing puss, which is white. So sick, not in a good way. They sold it like that for a while before people caught on. They pasteurized it so it was 'safe' to drink.

I tried getting off dairy for 30 days, and here i am 1 year later, completely plant-based diet.It has honestly changed my life. I will honestly never go back, not only is it a horrible industry, it's kills our health and our environment. I no longer have acne, hormonal problems and anemia. Great episode, Ladies! Erin’s “Dairy is Scary” video is only about five minutes long, and after viewing it I have never looked at dairy the same...and I’m in New Zealand surrounded by dairy farms that are no longer picturesque gatherings of cows, or once adorable whole paddocks full of baby cows ( the females, I suppose). Now I see them and vary from deep sadness to anger. I am woke now, and have had no desire to be a part of the cruel cycle that is completely unnecessary. Thanks so much for an important discussion- particularly the analogies to us as women.

I had a parakeet who recently passed away and she used to have issues with laying eggs. And she almost died twice because an egg got stuck in her body. But the vet saved her. But, I had to feed her kale and arugula to make sure she had a strong calcium intake so she would lay strong eggs. She had a problem and couldn’t stop laying eggs. Laying eggs stressed birds so much and I know that those poor chickens didn’t have someone like me caring for them and making sure they get their vitamins right or to bring them to the vet if something happened. I bet those poor chickens become vitamin deficient and probably are let die if they got their eggs stuck in their bodies. And that is really sad! I used to miss eating eggs but once I realized that an egg came out of my bird’s butt, it became easier. By the way, she passed away from a tumor not an egg being stuck.

awesome video!! i was visiting an animal sanctuary recently and they had a (now grown up) veal calf there. he was 4 years old and weiged 2700 lbs (a full grown male cow is usually less than 1500) because his mom, a dairy cow, had been pumped full of so many growth hormones to increase her milk production. it was heartbreaking. he has arthritis in all his legs from carrying so much weight. thank you guys for spreading this discussion! as a woman, i can't help but think dairy is the cruelest industry of them all. i'd sooner eat meat than drink milk or eat cheese :(

Hey ☺️ we’re not hating on farmers, we just don’t believe that killing an animal for food when we don’t need it to survive is cruel. There’s no nutrient that you can get from animals that you can’t get from plants (except b12) so it seems wrong to kill them for food. That’s where we’re coming from! Hope that helps clear things up 💚

Every human being on this planet needs to see this video. I cried a couple of times just listening to you guys and really imagining the suffering of those animals who are abused against all natural law. I initially tried to stop myself from crying because I was overwhelmed but then I thought if there is anything I should be crying about then it is this mass cruelty. Also fascinating how my own brain tried to stop me from feeling the pain of these animals. I SHOULD be crying for them, I should be feeling their pain because THAT behaviour is normal. Animal slaughter is murder and humans are nobodies to argue things like "they all die anyway" to justify slaughter. If you die anyway, why are YOU living off of animal slaughter? There is no real justification for this systemized cruelty. Please share this video among others that expose these industries and try your best to adopt a vegan diet and a vegan lifestyle. Veganism is not about picking sides in a debate. It is much more than that.

I just found that being vegan was too restrictive and ostracizing for me. I eat vegan at home but when I go out with friends or family i stick to vegetarian. @tamcon72

I am a trained culinarian. It is not difficult to eat vegan at restaurants, but it requires effort on the vegan's part. Learn to call the restaurant ahead of time and ask whether they can accommodate your vegan needs. 99% of kitchens will delight at the challenge and do their best to please you. Make suggestions for a simple but filling meal you may want to eat: Every restaurant should have simple starches and fresh or frozen vegetables that they can cook for you _at minimal cost and effort to their kitchen_ to make a satisfying meal. I have never not eaten vegan at a restaurant because they are happy to cater to me, given fair warning. No restaurant will accommodate you if you don't require it.

I have pet hens, and even with them having the best care I can provide, eggs still take a huge toll on their bodies. I call them the silent killers because that's really what they're. My hen Dove was a perfectly healthy 2.5 year old girl. A couple weeks ago I checked on them at night like I do every day, and she was perfectly fine. The next morning when I went down to feed them I found poor Dove had passed away. I checked her over to see what could have gone wrong, and found that she had prolapsed due to something going wrong while laying an egg. I mean think about how dangerous it would be to have a woman give birth everyday, and see how dangerous that would be. Out of my girls who have passed a huge amount of them have died from egg problems. I can only think of two (Summer, and Zim Zim) who passed from an unknown disease, and a lung infection. It is so upsetting when my babies who could have such a longer life, passed from a man made problem😢

Chickens lay eggs every day. What are you talking about? They lay eggs even if no rooster is around to impregnate them. Also, some chicken breeds are better at laying eggs than others. Not only that, but there are always accidents in nature. Whatever happened to chickens was not a result of just one thing. The chickens could have died of something else.

I absolutely respect and agree with everything you are saying, however as someone who worked in a cheese shop, I was able to experience the culture, history, and cheese making process firsthand, and I really find it fascinating and incredible, so that aspect is very hard to separate myself from. I have though, recently, after years of not being affected by it, started to develop a sensitivity to dairy so I've been trying to consume less and less and instead have been exploring more alternatives, i.e.; almond milk, coconut milk, vegan ice creams, califia farms almond/coconut cream half & half (amazing), vegan cheesecake, etc and tbh a lot of them are quite incredible. ordering 1/2 sweetener coconut milk iced caramel macchiato from starbucks is a new favourite! I'll probably never fully go vegan or vegetarian as my views differ slightly, I was raised on organic, grass fed, cage free, and overall more ethical animal product than just mindlessly consuming. I eat mostly plant based, with some meat & dairy here and there. I do love trying new vegan foods, and I always appreciate when something is made really well without having to use animal product. I enjoyed this video bc I felt like you were all very polite, kind, respectful, and eloquent, and did not make me feel awful bc I'm not vegan (which I find can be a big tunroff), but rather expressed your opinions in a very agreeable manner, so thank you!

Lest us forget that every animal in the dairy or egg industry has a knife to their throat as soon as their milk or egg supply decreases. No one gets out alive. You have to remember that a farmer is doing his job, even if he is raising his animals on some magical farm, and isnt going to keep feeding an animal that has stopped making him money. He has to make a profit so will send it to slaughter. Bitesizevegan has some amazing videos on the ethics of eggs and dairy for anyone wanting to learn more about the industry specifics.

I think we should acknowledge vegetarians even if they are still eating dairy. Because they did make a good step. Do I think that people who eat meat should ever have to be a vegetarian no. I think it’s a good experience to be vegetarian and can later lead you into becoming vegan if that’s what you want. As bad as the dairy industry is- the meat industry is also bad. For someone to even consider another lifestyle other then eating meat is a good step and if that step should never lead into being vegan- I think that’s ok also. Because they are making an effort of being vegetarian. I’ve been a vegetarian for a while now and it is hard work as I’m sure being vegan is. Restaurants around where I am don’t really cater to being vegetarian and most restaurants are completely off my list now. My stores don’t hold as many vegetarian items- so I’ve been struggling before trying to drum up something to eat. It’s all hard work. No matter if you are vegan- vegetarian. We should all accept whatever lifestyle people choose wether it be vegan- vegetarian- or someone who does eat meat. Being aggressive and against meat eaters won’t get them to change if they should ever want to.

A farm school by me that teaches kids about agriculture has a dairy barn:( The cows don't go outside, and are hooked up to be milked twice a day. When they aren't being milked they still stand in the same milking stalls all day. There's a cow there I heard about, that has a uterine prolapse every year after she gives birth, and every year the vet comes pushes it back into her, and stitches her back up. There's another cow there. Recently she gave birth to a calf, and due to complications the calf died. Either way she was being milked 2 days after that. Besides that the baby would have been taken from her anyway if they survived😢 Now this is supposed to be a leading school in Animal Agriculture. Think about how they're teaching kids to treat the animals. Cows have a life span of 18-22 years and older. Dairy cows have a life span of 4-5 years old. It's so sad:,( Very well put together video

I just became vegan in January and you guys have been such a help to what my body actually needs and how to explain why I feel compelled to do this for the animals. Thank you!

I 100% agree with what Hannah said about lactose intolerance. Thanks for pointing that out.

I was that vegetarian saying that I couldn’t give up cheese without knowing much about what is going on behind the scenes in the dairy industry. It is devastating and once I learnt that; I couldn’t look at cheese the same way anymore. It is so weird but knowing how much suffering goes into producing it makes me completely disgusted just by the thought of having cheese. It makes me so sad and I so wish I would have learnt about this sooner.

Something you didn’t mention is the blood and puss in majority of milk that gets in because of the infections cows get from how they are treated. It can’t be filtered out because it’s all liquid. Even though the ethics are enough for me personally, the thought of eating or drinking puss is so repulsive that I never even remotely crave it.

I never knew I was lactose intolerant until trying cheese months and months after going fully vegan. It literally sent me to the hospital.

I really want to be vegan but I still live with my parents and I’m only 16 so I don’t have the funds to buy all the vegan options so I don’t starve myself so being vegetarian is really the only option that my parents are okay with but the second I get a job I’m going vegan cause I want to be vegan not vegetarian

I think I am one of the only ones who never really liked cheese. I mean I liked it but I wasn’t addicted to it and hardly ate it. And now that i know about it, it repulses me😝

It's videos like this that just make me so happy that I'm vegan. I chose a more "inconvinient" lifestyle, and I would never ever go back. We are doing great things as a community.

Oh... It's not quite like that in my country, but I guess that's because we don't have factory farming. They still take the calves, but the cows aren't "hooked up all day". They get milked twice a day and are put out to pasture the rest of the time. Also, domestic cows can't live to be 50, they can live to be about 20 afaik. But I liked the vid, very compelling. 💕
