I also recall vividly when I got a call from MGM Records saying Elton John had called and said he would like to meet some of the Osmonds. So, my brother Merrill and I drove over to the offices and there we met Elton John who was waiting for us. He had an orchid flower behind his ear. We had a wonderful discussion together; everything from music, how much we liked each other’s songs, to what we were currently doing. After a fun discussion, Elton said, “We are having a party tonight. Why don’t you come and join us! He gave us an address. We said okay and cordially said our goodbyes. Not much time after, we received a call from Elton’s management saying we are sorry but we would like “un-invite you to the party”; ... “we might be embarrassed having you there with all that will be going on”! Merrill and I smiled at each other and said we understand. “That” was the BEST COMPLIMENT they could have given us! It’s nice to be respected for our beliefs and values, and still remain contemporaries in the music business. 🙏
Alan, you have right! I think your story is inspiring. Music is a wonderful thing and a important factor but, you and the rest of your family has always shown at least to me that you can be in show business and be in the middle of the hurricane of rock and roll to its fullest and still remember what is most important...God and family. I have total respect for you and your family. I was lucky enough to stay at your brothers home one night with my wife. I was in a band on tour in Utah at that time ( Backbeat a Beatle show) . We were on tour , and your family was kind enough to invite us to stay at Virl's home. To this day my wife and I remember how wonderful you all treated us and made us feel welcome and at home. Later in the day we met up with Merrill at the show and that was a treat for all of us as well. You have and earned the right to be proud of all your accomplishments. I believe at the end of the day ,you will meet your maker, and he will ask you a question, "I gave you a gift .... did you enjoy it?" I don't know you Alan personally but, I'll bet you can be able to look him in the eye and answer "Yes" and at that time the dear lord will allow you to the next level. God bless you man! Alan when I was 18 years old , I went to see the group Abba with my sister. Alice copper manager spotted me and invited me and my sister to and party where they were staying . I politely reclined because of my beliefs, and didn’t want to put my values in jeopardy. He didn’t know me and like Elton know you, and I wouldn’t of meant anything even if I would have gone . I knew in my heart that I had to do the right thing by my sister, God and me . Thank you for sharing a couple of you’re experiences Alan . I remember when Paul McCartney came to our hotel in France. The operator called and woke me up. She said, "There is a Paul McCartney down here that would like to come up and see you." I said, "Theeeeee Paul McCartney?" She said, "Yes"! I told her to send him up! We were all still sleeping but boy did we jump up, get dressed, and tried to make our room look better when there was a knock at our door. We opened it and there stood Paul McCartney my Legend Songwriter/Singer! Also, there was Paul McCartney, the one who stood up for us when the press/media reporters tried to discredit us and put us down during our OSMONDMANIA days in England! Paul told them, "I really LIKE THE OSMONDS!" But, most importantly, there standing at the door was Paul McCartney the Father. He had brought his daughter to get my brother Donny's autograph! :-). Alan, the Osmonds were reborn during covid through utube. All the concerts, songs, Hope. Positivity, produced, written, performed so long ago, even in your youth, brought that same encouragement forward 50 years later at a time when there was no abundance of hope or modeling of morality. Hi Alan. I love you and your family. I first learned about Osmonds when I was 5 years old and heard Donny singing on the radio. When I was 6 , my parents brought me his album, "My Best to You". Then as I got a bit older I started loving all of the Osmonds, all of your music. You are all so incredibly talented. I remember watching the Donny & Marie show and my favorite part was when your whole entire family would be on. I loved how your family was not afraid to share your love for God, and I loved how wholesome you all were, and still are. When Donny & Marie used to sing "May Tomorrow be a Perfect Day" at the end of their show, it brought me to tears. I loved all of your songs; "I Believe", "Love me for a Reason", Crazy Horses", "YoYo,"...everything. I'm 56 now, and still love your family's music as much as I did when I first heard Donny singing when I was 5. Thank you for a lifetime of inspiration.

What a beautiful message. I found out about the Osmonds when I was 9 years old. I was hooked from the first song. At age 11 my Mom died from Diabetes complications (kidney failure). I was an only child. Your music and your high moral standers kept me on the “Straight and Narrow”. You were like family to me. Your music got me through those trying times in life. I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart❤️

I think as kid, I looked up to The Osmonds because of their Religious Beliefs...It made me feel more normal to also have my Beliefs...not feel ostracized. Because of you and your Brothers, I became a deeper Christian. Who would have thought, that because of a Rock Band, I would have a deeper faith. Alan, I’ve only recently become a huge fan of you and your family (and by that, I mean for the last 15 years). I was born in 1970, right behind 3 older sisters. But they were big fans and in my early years I was absorbing your music by osmosis. I soaked in the Crazy Horses album because it was on rotation on my sister’s record player. Over the years, I kept up with your family through Donny and Marie, the musical shift to country and beyond. Decades later, thanks to RU-vid, I rediscovered The Osmonds and your body of works. One day in 2006, I was at work and Crazy Horses popped in my head. Curiously, I looked on RU-vid and found a TV appearance where y’all played that amazing song. It just snowballed from there. I have context and perspective now, which was impossible without your saturation on the Internet. And with that, my appreciation for the many talents of your family grew. As I watched more videos, I saw your leadership and energy shine through your performances. But then in later clips, I noticed your absence and I read about your fight with MS. I poured through your interviews, writings and posts. You are so very inspiring and I wanted to thank your for your strength and courage over the years. Even though I don’t have MS, I have other health issues and your words still reach out to me. And your faith stands out, along with your family’s faith and examples in life. Now, we may differ on a few things, since I’m not a Mormon, but I’ve read enough to understand your beliefs. And I know that our love of God is the same. I truly believe that this is why I went into the Army instead of on a "mission" for our church, but stayed with my Brothers as their Leader and continued to take our music with messages of the gospel and family to the world; that we might be "instruments in the Lord's hands" in bringing His children to Christ; the God of this world!
I only discovered The Osmonds a few weeks ago - Crazy Horses is the first song of yours I heard and instantly loved it. Now I listen and watch The Osmonds sing and dance every morning, it sets me up for a good day. Cheers :-)

For me,I heard Jimmys "Longhaired lover" on the radio when I was eight years old, living in Scandinavia I hadn't heard many American children sing, I think the only other child-star I had heard was Lena Zavaroni! I loved Jimmys voice and the song and I had my mom call me inside every time it played on the radio😆we lived in an apartmentbuilding on the third floor but I ran up the steps so fast and didn't miss much😁later on I learned that Jimmy had lots and lots of siblings and it wowed me, I didn't know anyone with so many siblings! I became a fan,of all the Osmonds, and still am today😍
Back in the70’s myself, my mum and my sister all-loved the Osmonds. And now all these years later I have rediscovered them during lockdown. Watching all their performances and interviews. Although I’ve always loved them it’s only now as an adult I realise how supremely talented they all are. I am in awe of their discipline and perfection. Although my family was not overly religious, I was brought up to believe in God by my parents and Grandparents. And I too was brought up to lead a clean respectable way of living. Sometimes I would be laughed at at school for being too clean cut, but I didn’t care what anyone said because I had my standards and I knew that was how I wanted to be. Back in the 70s 80s and 90s my family owned a stud farm in Kent near London and each beautiful little foal that was born we would name after an Osmond. How wonderful all these years later to be able to connect with an actual Osmond. Alan I hope you read this and just a simple ‘Hi’ as a reply would be wonderful. I too just rediscovered the wildly talented Osmonds. Ive been on an Osmond binge via online videos. Also bought books. Merrill's book, "Let the Reason Be Love" was very well written. my 8 yr old grandson enjoyed the "Twice Upon a Time Stories. He particularly enjoyed Jimmy's Awesome Possum book. Would each of you write more of those stories? I always had the song "Carrie" in my mind, even to this day. Love & greatly admire each of the Osmonds----your talents, your voices, the flawless dancing & sound, your faith & example. It"s been a blessing to grow up with the Osmonds. Happy retirements to each & blessings of continued good health/recovery to each.
Question: if you are baptized in the LDS church on your own accord at age 9, will you go to Heaven at age 26 despite how you died? I pray it is so, for my beautiful daughter left this world 4 1/2 yrs (seems 2018 was a very rough/sad year for many of us). I just want her to be at peace & know love & acceptance. I miss her so very much. She left a 4 yr old boy & 11 yr old girl (at the time). I too was baptized in the LDS church. My grandkids were legally taken way from me so i have very little contact when i used to have them daily. I just want my family to be together ... here & in Heaven.
THERE WERE A FEW SONGS THAT WERE DIFFERENT , I REALIZED , THAN THE SONGS I WAS USE TO HEARING . MIND YOU , I LOVED ALL YOUR GUYS SONGS AND STILL DO BUT “ LET ME IN “ AND “ ARE YOU UP THERE ? “ REALLY CAUGHT MY ATTENTION AND I KNEW WITHOUT IT REALLY BEING SAID WHAT THE MESSAGE OF THESE SONGS MEANT . WHEN I WAS 14YRS OLD I REMEMBER HAVING AN EXPERIENCE OF KNOWING THAT AT THAT MOMENT I WAS SUPPOSE TO BE RIGHT WHERE I WAS AT THAT EXACT TIME . AND THERE WAS A REASON FOR IT BUT I DIDNT KNOW WHAT THE REASON WAS . I WENT INTO THE HOUSE AND TOLD MY DAD ALL THIS AND HE TOLD ME THAT ONE DAY I WILL KNOW WHAT ALL THAT MEANT . I JUST SAID “ OH , OK “ AND LEFT IT AT THAT . THEN SHORTLY AFTERWARDS I HEARD THOSE TWO SONGS I MENTIONED AND I FELT A SENSE OF PEACE WITHIN MYSELF . ITS REALLY HARD TO EXPLAIN IN WORDS WHAT SOMETHING LIKE THAT FEELS LIKE EXCEPT ITS A FEELING AND EXPERIENCE I’LL ALWAYS REMEMBER . MY EXPERIENCE WITH GOD ON THAT SUMMER MORNING SITTING ON THE CURB .

My life could've been much different, could've gotten into drugs & such but my love of Osmond's music lead me to look into the Church & @13 /14 years of age was baptized @LDS in Paducah, Kentucky 😄.( And Elder Ewell & Elder Hill hold a special place in my heart & are always in my prayers). I'm now a 59 year old grandmother still listening & loving Osmond's music & messages😀. Thank you all so much for your positivity during my life. May God continue to bless you all.

Because of you and the other original Osmonds, just recently the RU-vid algorithm sent me your stories.... I felt the love and the Rightness, the authenticity, and more.... I've been going to an LDS church and being taught by two wonderful missionaries.
Seeing you all in person has been on my bucket list for about 50 years now. I remember being about 7 years old and had just heard "Go Away Little Girl" on our local radio station. I called the radio station and asked to speak to Donny. The DJ told me he wasn't there, and I argued with him, saying, "Yes, he is! I just heard him sing!" LOL One of my most favorite memories. :) The Osmond Brothers and then a little later, Marie and Jimmy, were a HUGE part of my young life. My dad had a country band back then, and the very first time I sang on stage, I sang, "Paper Roses." Yes, your family greatly blessed and entertained me for many, many years in my youth. Now I often find myself going thru all the old videos, interviews, shows here on RU-vid now and it makes my heart smile so much. Even though I don't know any of you beyond what we've all seen on TV, I can say there is a love and great affection for each of you in my heart. Blessings to you all.

As a child, I grew up in a very tense and unpleasant home environment, especially from about my seventh year on. There was abuse and there was rebellion against that abuse. What gave me strength and hope through those dark years, was you and your brothers' and sister's music. That dark time, for me, coincided with the Donny and Marie show on television. I was a steadfast fan of the show, and of the music, because it was the only thing going on at that time of life, in the environment I knew, in the society I occupied, that wasn't about sex, drugs and rock'n'roll. All my friends' parents were getting divorced, and mine almost followed suit, during those years. I clung to the Osmonds' music as my comfort, my rescue from the stress, and my hope for a future. I have followed your careers to the best of my ability since that time, and still when I'm stressed out, depressed or otherwise out of sorts, listening to your music calms me and brings me a peace I can't describe. I consider you all my siblings from other parents, because when I was young, I pretended that I was a "lost Osmond" that had been stolen from your parents and dumped at my family's home. I yearned to "rejoin" your family and be protected, loved, and celebrated for the person I was, just like I saw you guys getting along with one another on the shows and specials you produced. You saved my life. Still to this day you guys appear in my dreams, and when we see each other, we know each other, and we are always so happy to see one another. We catch each other up on the happenings in each of our families, we hang out, and we have great times together. I love you, all of you. In a "family of the Creator," you guys are the ones who made the biggest positive impact in my life as a child and as an adult. I will always credit you with being my lifesaver in a tempestuous sea of confusion and anger. Thank you.

Kristen, we probably knew each other before this world was, in the Spirit world, where we were taught as Spirits with bodies of Sirit, before we came to earth to get our physical bodies from our earthly parents, all we needed to know! We chose Jesus as our Savior and promised to follow Him, and to keep His commandments! I always admired the way you were able to stand your ground and be who you were in the biz, and you were respected for it. As a wise leader once said..."God bless us with strength to stand for the right". When the foundation is built upon the rock, you can stand in place and stand strong. I was backstage at Shepherd's Bush in 1974 (a friend was a BBC Cameraman filming it), and I remembered seeing you talking to Jimmy. You came over and said hi to me, then took me to see Donny. I just remember walking down the hall with you and Jimmy, past your mother, and you were asking where Donny was. I was 11, and you were so kind to me. I joined the church 7 years later and knew that I had come home. It was the example of your family, and the messages that you were sending, that is the soundtrack of my life. Thank you for all your sacrifices. Thank you for your example. Thank you for teaching me about what is truly important.

I have watched more of your family performing and heard what you all did individually,Jimmy's business's,Jay's drumming solo,your achievement of a black belt..(these are what I know so far).wow..and all that without tea,coffee,cocoa cola.Your energy levels and abilities...breath taking.For all that wonderful stuff my and other people of all ages memory of your appearances is the love and joy of life,the kindness..that's eternal...thats what I see when you are mentioned as a family.Never mind the personal grooming,seemly effortless love for each other and performing with such unselfish energy.

Terri L, I looked up to the Osmonds also. They made me feel as if I was not a freak of nature. My life was similar to them. They made me proud of how I was raised.

I remember the first time I met Alan after a show, probably mid 80's, I was wearing a hat from where I worked, and during our conversatio , he was asking questions of me about the hat, and what we did, etc. Very personable, as all the Osmonds were. I've had the chance to meet them all several times through the years, including their parents. All wonderful people.

I fell in love with you all at the age of 12.. wished I could be as beautiful as marie... ❤ however I was madly in love with MERRIL. ..I'm now 62... still in love with him... thank you all for you're wonderful music over the year's.. it's carried me through all the highs and lows of my life so far. Alan, I am Jimmy's age and I was introduced to you and your family when my sister who is 7 years older started listening to you guys. As the normal thing happened my sister had a crush on Merrill, my girl cousins had crushes on Wayne and Jay. I had one on you, lol. I was the youngest at 6 or 7 and you were the oldest, an adult, and my sister and cousins weren't having it. I say all of that to say this, I am so proud of the man you were and have always been. Of all the crushes I have had in my 55 years you are the most upstanding and moral of all. I still love your family and the music. God bless you, your beautiful wife, your sons and all of their families. You are still a wonderful role model!
I love you Alan. Your music made me discover my talents. My father bought me a book with music scores of your songs and I started to study them, long story short I did my first audition at 16 and ended up playing in musicals like Les Miz. I met my husband during one of the productions, we started a family and moved to Australia where we live a happy happy life on a farm . I often think I am where i am because of your inspiration, now let that sink in, that's why I love you. As a barbershop quartet I loved you and brothers the best. Such beautiful voices and harmonizing and I still listen to that old album. Your old Motown one was great too. Do you remember Stake Conference in Garden Grove,California in August 1969 when Ezra Taft Benson spoke? I overslept and arrived late and was placed to sit up front on a chair for a General Authority. Embarrassing. But a day I will always be thankful for as you brought shy Marie and then tiny Jimmy to meet me and I got to meet all 7 of you that day. Met some of you years later each time you stayed in Anaheim for the telethon (think Virl was there- can't tell your two oldest bros apart). Anyway,in those late 80's and prob.1990, your 5 little boys were on TV and it was wonderful to have a new Osmond barbershop quartet again. This would have been so much work for you as you had your own career still. Therefore I want to thank you for that and the extra joy you brought to many people. Take care of yourself.
Thank you Didi. Music is in our genes and so it was also with the Second Generation! All fathers like to see their sons work and progress. So when we had shows, we would have the Second Generation be a part of the show, too! They developed their skills and it kept them busy! A blessing! Thank you! Glad you liked them. I remember Reading A teen magazine mentioning your Mormon faith but that was it nothing further on it, had no clue what your faith was like but i didn’t know much about any others either. I admire that you and your family held to your beliefs through that time I know it wasn’t easy for any of you. God bless
How do I get this book! The thing I think over all, the reason you were so successful was because you were true to self, true to God, and true to family! I never knew about "G O O D", but it's why you will all "ETTE"! I actually noticed recently, since I became Mormon, listening to the MTC more often, I hear your music & voices in theirs. God given, following God's "plan", "instruments of God" raising your voices, to His glory, is why you were such a success! He approved that you got "NOIZ" in His name, and glorified Him in your thoughts, and words, and music that has lasted my entire life (Jan 29, 1960),and I will endure to the end, with you, musically too! Thank you for sharing "The Plan" with the world! God gave you an amazing gift...your voices were/are "the instrument of God" being raised to His Glory, and you kept us from "falling" by being who you were! You "led" by example of "living life pure and true" in a time of "free love" (line in song from "Joseph...")! Thank you for everything you did, it was God's plan for you and it's a pure and true testimony to the "Book of Mormon" that you followed His path for you to the fullest extent! I'd say, God bless you all, but He already did....in mass abundance, because you lived the life that is, now, and ever will be, written in the "Book of Mormon"!

@@alanosmond3131 I look and even though I see a name that was familiar, the rest of the information did not match up with the rest of what I have. Of course mine is old and sketchy at best. I have a William Osmond born approx. around 1819 in England who married a Anne or Anna McDowell in Bath, England around 1845. He passed away in 1869 in Saginaw, MI.

Steven, our genealogist Clayton, suggested that I send you this information: Alan, I took a few minutes and looked into the Osmond ancestry mentioned by Steven Osmond. The couple Steven mentioned are listed in FamilySearch: William Osmond (FS PID # GW9S-22Z) and Anna McDowell (FS PID # GW9S-K9X). However, there is no documentation for this couple and FreeBMD (civil registration) does not list a marriage of this couple in England between the years 1838 and 1855. However, there is a William Osmond who died in 1895 at the age of "76" in Clutton district and who was buried in Bath, Somerset, England (see attached gravestone) . I suggest that Steven review the multiple census records in England to determine which William Osmond he is actually related to. Clayton NOTE: we use familysearch.org for family history. Just saw that NOiZ is Zion spelled backwards... again to mention I was speaking to my SM Farnes who was at my Baptism as were you and Suzanne. Thank you for being there! Hope that's ok to mention here, but it is a part of my thought process in reaction to this video of why you did what you did as a group. Look at all your screaming fans here and abroad... Osmond mania in England.... GOOD...your parents names in initials...God given instruments of God and doing good and bringing me to the Church (amongst others)! You were a joyful NOiZ...heard around the world! And they loved the "goodie-good-ness" that made "The Osmonds" huge! You took the "strait and narrow" path when others chose not to be "straight" and get high and got into sex..even in "Joseph..." Donny said "I don't believe in free love"! You took a strong stand on action of good and not distr"action" of worldly evils... because that is what I'm told time & time again. I'm not of this world, I guess that's why I'm in Space A51 (just saw space...outer space? Lol.-because we affectionately call it Area 51...)
