Jess, I love that you said “this is not her job.” So many family channels will force their children to create content and shove a camera in their face and they didn’t chose that life. You also mentioned the word consent which is so important. Kids don’t understand social media and don’t have the knowledge to consent to being online. I wish more people would have the understanding that you and Gabe have, it’s so important. You are wonderful parents and are doing an amazing job in case you needed that reminder❤️

You guys are so intentional with how you're raising Kiah, it's beautiful to see how much you're thinking about everything and putting so much effort into it - with the emails, the letter on her 1st bday, private family vlogs this is just so wholesome. I genuinely hope your babies grow up appreciating all of this (the years after they start secondary school (year 7 upwards, so aged 12 upwards) can be a toughie with all of the outside noise so I hope all of this just warms their souls to know just how loved they are. I'm honestly taking mental notes from you guys for my own future babies. Loving these raw convos💖

THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS!!!! oh my gosh the relief I feel that you two were the ones to come out and make this video. I’ve been saying for a while that a really good, level headed family channel needs to be the start of a movement that SO badly needs to happen. Thank you thank you! 😭🩷 hopefully at least one family takes something from this and makes a change. It’s so so important.

Absolutely agree with this topic of respecting your child’s privacy and putting out the online boundaries to protect her from lurking predators out there. I really hope this create more awareness of the fact that it is something not to be frowned upon but rather practiced in this current age. Fame can never recover the traumas and regrets that follows if things took a bad turn. I’m so proud of you two for successfully pulling this off and thank you for willing to share your real personal experiences. God bless!

i have been watching the two of you since 2015/2016 and not once have i stopped watching and loving your content and videos. the vulnerability and authenticity that the two of you omit (individually and as a couple) has been one of the most beautiful things to witness on youtube, and the internet as a whole. it is the biggest honor and pleasure to have watched you two over the years grow, evolve, get married, become parents, and as you so wonderfully put, "live life together." the creation and existence of this podcast makes me so beyond happy and i can't wait to continue on this journey with you both :')

I was about to start cooking - this is perfectly timed, thank you so much! ❤️ Also I think a lot of celebrities/influencers overshare their children on social media so I like you two don‘t show her face/barely show her in general. She‘s barely a year old, she can‘t even talk yet (properly I suppose) so how can she make a decision like this? YOU guys chose to be on RU-vid and social media, she did not. Once she‘s old enough to make that choice, she can and she will. I love that you‘re setting and respecting her boundaries even though she‘s not even aware of them herself. A lot of people’s children in the spotlight would benefit from your mindset. 🤍

I actually really agree with all of the points you have made. I’ve never really thought about it from those perspectives. My one thought is, when she gets old enough to attend school or another child’s birthday party, will she have to sit out from class/group pictures? I feel like that would be hard to control who’d get a hold of photos like that after they are taken in a larger group that’s not family. Thanks for making this video. It’s made me very thoughtful about the topic🤍

I am glad that you two are talking about this topic. There's this woman on my Facebook that I went to high school with..and I don't really know her. Although, she posts her two sons literally every day in different various photo albums. It makes me uncomfortable because she'll tag their location, and them in their swim trunks at the beach.. anything you can think of. I have always felt icked by it because there are creeps out there, she isn't a famous or viral blogger so it's weird. I liked all the points you guys brought up. Awful people will really go to great lengths to use photos posted online inappropriately. I worked as a TV reporter and people would take my images and try to sell inappropriate stuff online. One time they used my photos to catfish on Tinder...so it has also made me really careful about what I post, where it's posted and who gets to see it. It's so necessary to protect children from this kind of stuff...

I respect if parents choose to not show their children- the only thing I don’t get is if some post pictures or vlogs with their children allll the times with the camera in their faces but then blurry their faces…. Like… pick a side. So you don’t want to really post them but also want to profit of the fact, that people are interested in seeing those ‘family channels' ?! Those content creators cringe me out the mostttt

For me I would say that Gabe’s point on creepers or scammers etc, is a really important point to discuss. It will be most important because it is something that does not affect just one individual but also that individuals child. With keeping this point everything you discussed, when do you think your daughter will be fully be apart of not just your podcast but also your channel. I’m not a parent, but I feel a good age to start introducing any kid to social media would be around the age of 10.

I love this whole conversation! One thing that I’ve been wondering these last couple years is: whatever happened to good old photo albums? Like actual printed photos? Or home videos? I’ve never really understood the argument „Oh I just want to post this for the memories“. But why do you have to post online? Why not keep it just on your laptop or wherever you like to save files or print pictures etc. I understand the „posting private“ but I still don’t think it’s safe. Things can get leaked and as soon as you put anything out there on the internet on whatever platform (even if private) you really can’t control what will happen to that.

I have so much respect for your choice and for you discussing this on your podcast. I understand that most people don’t have the privilege to understand your decision, but as someone who has worked in child development and child welfare for years and is now finishing my masters in child therapy, I think this is such an important discussion to be had. It is not good for children’s development to grow up as a child star or child RU-vidr. Even aside from their self-view and the extreme risk of harm, it teaches them that their boundaries are not important and that is so detrimental to their development, attachment, and life trajectory.

As a society it is SO ingrained to over share on social media that the idea of asking someone to taper that back is shocking to them. Hey ❤ I’ve been following ye for years, since Gabes vine days. I am so glad to hear you both talk on this topic, it’s so important!!! I grew up not knowing what my purpose was in life and then I stumbled on social work. I work with children and families all the time and it is so hard to showcase the dangers of social media. Also because of it still being quite new, some parents don’t have access or all the education on it until it is too late. Although it has so many pros it also has these massive cons that can be life altering. There are so many families that I know that if they could turn back time they would never post their children or give them social media accounts at a young age. It is honestly every parents decision on what they feel is best but the more that social media progresses, the more danger it becomes on the data and information that can be accessed with a click of a button. I respect you both greatly for doing this for your child and may god bless you and your family 💕 Lots of love, Cait x

It's true it depends on their perception as a parent as to whether they will show their kids or not. Whatever they say is not the same for every family doing a "decent" family video. To be honest I actually love watching family videos. I get ideas in dealing with kids especially for a first time parent. I get inspired and felt like i'm not alone being a parent in the chaotic but colorful world of having a kids. It's not right to judge those families doing those videos of showing their kids because I think they know how to control the video they will show for their viewers. I guess it's up to the parents if they will shame their kids infront of the camera. That's why in making a family video "parents supervision" should be strictly implemented.

Interesting conversation! I think the issue with social media child stars is that it’s a direct choice made by the parents to share varying moments of their child’s lives without consent of the child. The parents are generally the ones in charge of what is posted and unfortunately a lot of the times the content should not be for the public eye. You described very innocent moments that parents like to share, but they do not consider the potential threats and dangers out there. In particular some family vloggers have continually received concerning comments regarding their children online and they still continue to post the same material over and over again without any regard. I work as a software developer and closely follow the advances in AI and even with a small IG following that I have where I know the people, I will not be posting photos as it echoes the same fears you have of photoshopping. Artificially generated “photos” of children are unfortunately going to become a thing and all these generators need is a database of photos to use things from. I do not trust these large social media platforms to respect privacy concerns when they have to choose between privacy or profit.

This is so important. I've never really thought about all sides to this topic. I'm not a parent per say but I have 16 years younger sister and in some parts I feel like her second mom. I saw so many videos about how showing your kid can be dangerous because of the hidden predators, and yes, maybe it is not so common but it can happened to anyone and that's so so scary! And the other aspect is to see how stuff on the internet can shape young minds, the influence is far too big sometimes so if there is a chance for kids to grow without internet I would take it.

It’s so incredibly dangerous to put children on the internet for so many reasons that you mentioned and also it’s not putting fear in people….parents need to hear this loud and clear!! It’s obviously dangerous and could be very harmful for them n their future as well….and judge away…we all should, if parents vlog their children full time it’s absolutely the time to judge.

This is such an important topic and I think you can stop trying to make people feel OK for choosing to put their kids on social media. All the things you mentioned are very real concerns and all parents SHOULD be considering these things. My feeling is this. If you knew there was 1 predator hanging around the local park, would you let your child go there? Obviously not. So why would you let your child be on social media when you know that there are MANY predators on line. You should never apologise for wanting to protect your child. You're doing the right thing.

I agree with everything, Me and my husband has already talked about and agreed that will not be posting that we are pregnant online, posting maternity pictures, and not posting our future children on social media every day. As Jess and Gabriel said, if you do that, that is your own decisions for your family, but as for me and my family we do not want our child known to millions of strangers. I feel that in this day, everything you do in life is posted online, and nothing is private and between the families. I feel that pregnancies and children are something that only should be between the parents and close family members and friends. As my main reason as Gabe said is point 2: Stalkers and creeps. After watching Sound of Freedom, It opened my eyes that people use photos of little kids for sick and disturbing reasons. And I agreed about posting your kids routine. When you post the "first day of school" pics with what school they go to, the name of their teacher, the grade they are in, You can planning out the creepers way to take your child and giving all the information to do it. Just please be careful parents, You don't have to post photos of your child on social media for them to have a good childhood. Get off the phones, don't worry about taking a picture or recording it, just live and live with your children and their memories. Thank you guys for talking about the heavy stuff because It NEEDS to be talked about. Too many precious children are being taking and abused by sickos in this world.

Thanks for talking about this ❤️ it does makes sense for you guys with the large following that you have, but I feel like it would kind of suck to be so limited on what you can post 😅 because your daughter is probably beautiful! however, this did motivate me to go through facebook followers and delete a lot of people that I haven’t seen in years! Especially since I’m about to have my first baby in 1 month! So thank you guys ❤️

I do think that your main reason for not revealing your daughter's face is both through your personal lived experiences and for that reason I absolutely respect your reasons. And being totally honest, before I saw this video I never understood why. I wanted to see what she looked like etc but it all makes sense now and your genuine concerns.

With AI now around I had a situation at work where someone took pictures of women fully clothed using an app that made the women look naked. Such a scary world. Keep your baby as safe as possible!

I only have started watching but I'm glad you're taking this decision so strongly and talking about it. There's family channels that exploit their kids and only now they are starting to talk about their experiences. Let kids be kids

i’ve seen a lot of little kids around me in my family that are exposed to electronic devices at a very early age . . tbh ,let me tell you they’re little demons running around . i absolutely agree that parents shouldn’t depend on a device to shut their children from throwing tantrums. it may satisfies u once they got their hands on them but the effect is long term on their children’s mental health

40:40 - I felt this message so powerfully and honestly while I enjoyed the rest of the conversation, I found this so transcendental. I hope you share more on your faith and/or go onto faith-based podcasts. I was originally drawn to the godliness that exhibited through in your videos. Gosh, that sounds a certain way doesn't it? But I hope what I am trying to say is just genuinely coming across. My earliest memories of you guys is just a rainy Saturday spent watching back to videos and wanting to grow my own relationship with our sweet, sweet God 🕊

I think it’s great that you’re trying to protect her from the negativity of the social media. And maybe when she is older you guys can protect her by teaching her how to protect herself… i don’t know, im not a parent. But i think you’re doing great. Love you!

This talk was so great. I'm so glad you guys put all those insights out. Not only to "justify" yourselves but to inform people (I really liked how you guys researched and brought study based information other than personal opinions). You two are amazing parents and a total meant to be couple 🩷

I used to love following yt family channels as inspiration and just seeing these amazing families online but then I realized how unnatural it is and how these kids who are being exploited for views do not have the option. I also hated knowing a phone is always being shoved in their faces to capture these moments. Just let them live! I think yall are setting a great example for your daughter and other creators.

Im loving this podcast wow wow you guys are so well thought out and your values are inspiring, I have one suggestion regarding the podcast setup- I wish there would sometimes be shots of both of you in it, i think its hard because your sitting directly across form each other but the flipping back and forth can get boring, would be interesting if there can be some shots of both of you guys. Just a friendly suggestion Love u guys.

I have huge respect for you guys deciding not to show your sweet girl on social media. My husband and I are expecting our first child and have nowhere near a following like you guys nor do we have social media as our jobs, and we are even having the conversations of showing our child on social media, and we are leaning more towards not. It’s a scary world out there and I 100% agree with you guys on doing our best to protect our children! ❤
