OMG Michelle. This got me so hyped!!! I'm starting my actuarial internship this coming summer as a career changer at a P&C Insurance... moving across the US to a city I've never been to and where I know no one!! It is soooo exciting!!! 😅😅😅
I am in my first semester of studying Actuarial Science. However I see comments like "you won't survive in this industry", "that's a stupid question", "it's a small community, watch what you speak" directed to beginners who are simply asking questions or giving opinions. It's discouraging and I'm beginning to doubt my choice. I'm terrified at the thought of getting an internship in the future.
I'm so sorry that thats been your experience. I dont know whether you, specifically, will enjoy being an actuary. But I do know that if you internalize that message of "im not good enough" then you will manifest that into reality. I hope you find a group of people to surround yourself with who are supportive and lovely and encouraging. If you ultimately decide that being an actuary isn't for you, that's ok too. Changing your mind isn't a failure. I just hope that you don't give up on something you wanted simply because some people have some bad opinions. Good luck
Hi, I have recently got an internship offer starting in May 2024, is there anything I should do right now to better prepare for it? Also, will the company reach out to fill me in with more information when the start date is nearing or do I just show up on the starting date?
There's nothing specific that you'd need to do now. If you can brush up on your excel skills, that would come in handy. Someone from the company will almost certainly reach out closer to the start date. Congratulations on getting an internship 👏
