Why we left America to live in Africa - BBC Africa documentary

Brian, Rukiya and Marcus don't know each other but all three have decided to leave their home in the US and move to Namibia, Tanzania and Uganda respectively.
While some African Americans recently relocated because they see Africa as a safe haven from racism, others say they moved for their children.
In 2019, a number of African Americans were inspired by the recent “Year of Return” movement initiated by Ghana, 400 years after the first Africans were brought in chains to Jamestown in the US.
Produced and edited by Njoroge Muigai.
Executive producer: Marko Zoric.

Myself having been to or lived in certain parts of North America as ADOS where white Caucasians find themselves as being a minority to black and brown people especially here in certain parts of the United States i can see a difference in a sense want and being unwanted even though this is still America. So for a black man like myself looking and striving toward being a future expat i could see myself being more welcomed in a place like africa outside of North America wher re non-caucasians like myself would feel more welcomed.

People dont understand how high the standards of living really is in Africa. The news give you a false perspective. An African American can live fairly comfortable with their wealth in almost any country in Africa and its cheaper to set up businesses and invest in land. Its honestly a great opportunity. Theres no need to live in a country that took your ancestors as slaves and still treat you as second class citizens.

Kunte Okonji sure, it’s easy to “come home” with American money and know how. You can have a beautiful home, built to prison-like specifications, with a few modern conveniences, like a well-appointed fortress to keep the natives at bay. But, as all these people like to point out, at the very least, if anything unsavory happens to them, it might have nothing to do with their race, and for some, I guess that’s enough! And let’s not forget that it was you people, in Africa, whose forefathers rounded up and sold different African tribesmen to the white man.

I get what you mean. I was wondering too. One way they keep blacks down is by making us appear weak by portraying a narrative of victimhood. This is very characteristic of white leftists who seek to be seen as the good guys (the only ones with the solution) against their white counterparts on the right. In the words of Malcolm X "that white person calling himself a liberal is the most dangerous thing in the entire western hemisphere. He is the most deceitful, he is like a fox..in the forest you can always see the wolf coming you know what he is up to..but the fox he comes as smiling..." No I'm not. I know, that for the most part, as a white man, if I where to move to, say, some nation in west Africa, I wouldn't be treated poorly. Heck, I bet I would even enjoy some of that white privilege, even thought I'm in Africa, whether I want it or not. I know that, but to be "welcome" there? Uh uh, no way. Too much bad history, corruption and suspicions for that to ever be a reality. Which is sad, because where ever I live, I genuinely want to contribute to that place. I just don't see myself ever being seen as anything but a temporary guest, in Africa.

JK Bibi4joy there are several million whites who consider Africa to be their homeland also. Unfortunately, when they try to live according to their cultural and religious norms, speaking their own languages, respecting the rule of law in society and the science, achieving the kinds of successes which come naturally to them, they are called racist by the black majority, and are despised and vilified for their lifestyles which are simply unattainable by the majority of Africans.

Yes, it feels different when you step onto the soil of your motherland, when you eat the food off that land, when your hair and skin meet the warmth and weather of that land. It does feel natural. notice how Nigeria is not included in this documentary because the sad truth is many Nigerians in the Diaspora would rather deal with the racism abroad then deal with the endless frustration (lack of security, corruption, lack of accountability and lack of patriotism) of living in Nigeria. so many talents abroad but even the process of getting a visa or passport is discouraging.
