Hey, TDD Fam! We're John & Christine.
We're now traveling to every country, but it all started with a dream.
We first spent three years in the oil fields working 24 hours a day 7 days a week with literally no days off saving as much as we could to travel the world. Now we're finally FREE!
In 2022 we packed our bags and hit the road and can't wait to share our adventures with YOU! There's so much to see and we're enjoying every minute. Thank you for following along and being part of The TDD Family!

Many thanks for visiting the Philippines. The Department of Tourism slogan, "ITS MORE FUN IN THE PHILIPPINES" , welcomes all foreigners in our country. Thank you for promoting our country, supporting our local and tourism business. Your comments and observation of our cities and tourist spots are important because it will help raise awareness the current condition of the places you visit. Constructive criticisms will help us to develop more, improve more, and clean our cities and tourist spots.

My husband and I love watching your vlogs here in New Zealand and you guys are fast becoming our favourite travel vloggers because your travels and struggles are so relatable. I can no longer relate to vloggers who are travelling first class and staying in 5k accomodation lol. We have loved your story and watching your experiences. When we were traveling we eventually found our hints and tricks to keep costs down and you guys will too. "Live like a local" was our mantra that helped a lot. When we started using local transport instead of taxis and ubers, and eating more local we saved heaps. It was initally a leap out of the comfort zone but hey thats the experience. Love seeing your content that shows the places you are at, the people you come across and the food you eat. Also love it that you guys "keep it real". Keep it up!!

Hi guys ..just a quick tip that will help you save money. When using ATM machine you are asked to choose with conversion or without conversion ALWAYS choose without conversion it will avoid paying a lot of hidden fees commissions etc. which can be up to 10% of your withdrawals. Bali scam if approached on the street with scratch tickets to win a big prize just keep walking it is a scam Enjoy your adventures and keep smiling.

I agree. Not only accomodation but also food and transportation in tourist areas like el nido, coron & boracay are expensive now. The internet is very weak or no internet at all in our islands. The government must do something if we want to attract more tourists in our country like Thailand and Bali.

Hi…There is a vlogger just like you guys…He is Thai named Backpaeger and at the moment he is still in the Philippines.dated aug.18’22…He has a quote at the end of his vlog and ill quote him,” if you travel,dont complain about the food and respect the culture of the country you visited..if you dont then just STAY HOME”..This Thai man just lives in a very poors hostels for budgeted traveler..he stays at 4 perople sharing room at Boracay..but when he describes Boracay,he praised Boracay as a very beautiful beach. In fact he said the Philippines has the best beach in SouthAsiathat includes his country Thailand.He said he should be on the side of country. But he cant,because Philippines is much beautiful…ahaha You cannot have it all,,in the Philippines you get what you paid for..you pay premiums for the best and its not free. I hope you watch his vlog..a traveller can learn from him..hes been to a lot of countries already..Backpager is his name. He spelled it that way…Btw he eats at our cheap meal restaurant and he is enjoying tha unlimited serve of rice..goodluck guys.🙌🏝🍻

So sorry u are leaving, it is sad to know that some of the tourists island destinations , charges food and accomodations so expensive, i hope they have to be fair to understand other that do come and explore has to go on budget . Keeping a reasonable price in anyway will help tourists to come and stay longer and be happy to leave and comeback.

Don’t knock yourselves or compare yourselves to others. No one wins in that game. Do what you need to do to continue on YOUR goals. This is YOUR journey that you’re kindly sharing with us. We plan on retiring to Malaysia in the next five to six years, due to the infrastructure, kind people, affordability (food, housing etc.), and accessibility to visit all the other amazing places in Southeast Asia. To all of you that live in the Philippines leaving John and Christine comments. Your country is beautiful. I have watched all of their vlogs and the Philippines vlogs have actually made me think of going to visit there someday. John and Christine are dear friends of ours and they lived in my house for about 6 months before starting on the gate guarding etc. Their story is quite interesting before they started this. I know where they have come from and to see what they are experiencing now is amazing. All of the people in the vlogs from every country have been so nice. I would love to see more of that (if the people like it). I would also love to see more walks of parks, shopping etc. I would also love to see more videos. Last but not least... visit Disney Japan or Paris someday. 🙂

When it comes to food, budget travelers and backpackers usually go to local restaurants, and avoid eating at touristic restaurants in tourist towns. Speaking of "touristy places", Palawan is probably the most touristy place in the world, if not one of the most touristy place in the world because in the past 10 years or so, Palawan was voted "The best island in the world" or "The most beautiful island in the world" five (5) times or a total of five years. If you ask me, I would highly recommend that if you're traveling in Philippines, to not be afraid to try or do many things especially food, and maybe bring some imodium or something, just in case. What's the worst thing that could happen, or what doesn't kill you makes you adapt and be stronger. In fact, a friendly intermingling with the locals will do you a lot of wonders. They will start to see you more like their house guest and less of a tourist, and that's a very good thing, believe it.

Just my one opinion, but I am not drawn to the extensively edited and produced videos. I can get those on the Discovery or documentary channels. For me, a lot of my enjoyment from RU-vid is the more natural feeling videos where a creator just does whatever you're doing, but also recording it for us to enjoy. And I think that supports what I think is most important. You worked all those gate hours to be able to do this. This is your reward for logging in all those trucks at 3am. I would hate to see you pass up maximizing more experiences because you need to stay back in the room and do more editing. Do what is easiest for you and what will give you the most free time to enjoy this to the max. I don't need professional editing, or the perfect music accompaniment, or filming 5 takes to get a better view, or ... I just need you being you. I remember watching all those videos of you explaining the gate guarding job and training. Those weren't filled with scenic views and fancy music. They just told whatever story you were telling with that particular video. And I've been watching you a long time, so apparently that was enough because I'm still here. So now that you have so much more to be doing with your time, why spend it all on the technical aspects of creating when you could be out enjoying new experiences? I think most viewers are more drawn to your personalities and zest for life than how you edit your videos. So just do what feels natural, is relatively easy, and not totally time consuming, and we will enjoy your sharing the output with us. Whatever you create, I will continue to enjoy and I just appreciate your sharing it with us.

@MrWaterbugdesign
@MrWaterbugdesign 2 года назад
That's basically what I've seen just watching videos. People post "look how cheap this is" yet it's more than I pay in the US. Bananas the same price or a little less in Phoenix AZ. Pork 50% less. Eggs were less (high right now). Rice is cheaper here. Electric cheaper per kwh. Gasoline cheaper here. I think pushing the "cheaper" thing is to get more viewer. It's what viewers want to hear. Even rent...comparing apples to apples there are cheap rent places in the US. And I can own in the US which blows having to rent in PH way more expensive in comparison. If a person wants to live near a beach then PH is way cheaper. It's a bit of a mix. A person can live cheap in either location.

We agree 100%! We had the same experience and had to leave after two weeks because we were not prepared for those prices. Even in the smaller towns, transportation between the different islands and cities threw us off-guard. We really wish we could afford to stay in The Philippines for longer when we were there but THIS is what other RU-vidrs didn't mention so we were really caught off-guard. Currently, we are in Athens, Greece and the prices here are actually cheaper.

I totally agree with you. It’s very expensive in Coron. Unfortunately, food and hotel rates are steep in the Philippines. Especially if you’re looking for at least 3 to 4 stars hotels. As someone who lived in many places, it is true that quality of things like services and food is still a big issue based on economy of scale back in the Philippines. Looking forward to watch your new videos. ❤

I noticed right off that prices seemed higher. I attributed that to being in touristy areas and coming out of the pandemic. While tourists may or may not be able to pay those prices, I would think locals cannot pay those prices. Of course, they can eat at home. Maybe staying at places with kitchens that might be a little above your price range would be better in the long term because some meals could be cooked. Just a thought for future situations.

Thank you for visiting our country. And hope to see you guys again in the future. :) Just my humble opinion. Palawan is a world-class destination and considered one of the best places in the world. It is always awarded best island by prestigious international travel publications. So just because it is located in a developing Asian country like ours doesn't mean the prices there should be less than western countries'. Though i don't doubt there are also some food businesses there who might be overpricing as what was recently reported in Bohol. So perhaps our Dept. of Tourism should also investigate Palawan as they are now doing in Bohol. But also, there are many ways to go about this problem if you want to stay there longer. Like i know someone who went to Batanes, another top destination here which is also expensive. She said she looked for local carinderias (what we call those open air eateries here) and so was able to save a lot on food because of it. Watch also Mergim Vlogs. You'll see him eating streetfoods, etc. on his travels. Anyway, those are just things to consider on your return here or even in your next destination. Thanks and GOD BLESS!

I love watching you two in general. In fact I enjoyed this video of mostly you two talking with overlays of snippets of your travels (like showing the bags open for the budget flight checks) than the travel day videos you've been producing. It's good for us to know how the air travel between places is, but don't stress yourself trying to make a story out of it unless something noteworthy happens to happen. Snippets of the travel and then on with the story of exploration would be great. Even filming yourselves more talking directly to the camera from your hotel rooms about how the city you're in makes you feel or things that people can do (and maybe why or why you're not doing those things). All the same, sometimes mundane videos can also be fascinating. What's a day like when you're just staying in? Everyone needs a rest day. What does your rest day look like? How about videoing locals with their suggestions for places to see or do? Why do they love where they live? Lastly, have you guys looked at all into renting places with kitchens or access to kitchens? You could save a lot of money shopping local and cooking your own meals (or even just eggs and toast for breakfast) if you had access to a kitchen. It's also something else to film. Always cheering for you guys!

Palawan (El Nido and Coron) is expensive (Foreigner price) because it is where most tourists are. You should have tried to explore the other islands (Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor, Negros, Siargao, Iloilo, etc.) cause it is where its cheapest.

want to be extreme? We always went to all inclusive buffet hotels and we ate once a day. we saved a lot of $ by doing so. Sure, it is extreme but we also saved a lot!

We hope to see you guys again in the Philippines. Rainy season here sucks and I also dont recommend exploring the islands when there is typhoon or intense rain. I suggest you come back in December or January. We have the merriest Christmas here. I want you to experience that. Come January is the series of festivals like Sinulog Festival in Cebu. We encourage tourists to join the fun. Also, ask for food recommendations from your Filipino viewers.

It’s sad you’re leaving but I know you’ll be back. U barely scratched the surface. Still so many places to see in Luzon. It can be that expensive in the South. Wherever you go, u still have my support because I enjoy watching u both. Always positive. Always have that generous smile. U deserve more followers. You’ll get there. All the best guys!

I agree with you about money we have to be practical in spending for everything...it's hard to earn it it doesn't mean that when somebody earns "dollar" they thought they are rich and they can afford everything some who travels they just want to relax and need to "recharge" and get away from the stress from work....there's lot of overseas filipino workers (OFW) who has tight in budget all their sacrifice is for the family to send their children to school have their own house They are saving every single penny

Yes even us Filipinos when we go to Coron or Nido, Boracay and Siargao, it’s also expensive. Like in my case, I can only stretch to 4 to 5 days vacation in one of those places. So the next holiday is after few months. Like us when we travel to Bali and other countries, we will spending $600 to $800 including ticket, hotel and pocket money. It’s normal. But the most important thing is you enjoy wherever you go. The next time you travel is stay in one place and do a lot of research so you can get the best. Like us when we were in Siargao, for 6 days we only have 2 travel package, most of the time we chill and find where to eat. So the next time focus in one place, example in Metro Manila(different cities), very few of the current vloggers explore Fort Santiago. Some lack information, just guessing. Very few explore Quezon City, then Rizal. In Makati, some explore Greenbelt, but did not know it’s connecting to Landmark, another mall, then to Glorietta, then to SM, then to LRT. Then you also need to explore Tagaytay, Baguio.

You will love bali, Indonesia. The Phillipines can be very expensive. Very similar to Indonesia. The cheaper Asia countries to have fun is Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. The most expensive Asia places to visit is Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan.

I guess it depends where you eat and go. Anywhere in the world if its touristy it's expensive. Plus if it's in the island I guess the foods are a liitle bit pricey since it's coming from other island, just my thought.
@TravelingDeficitDisorder
@TravelingDeficitDisorder 2 года назад
That's a very good point though as import and export can raise prices. But yes most touristy places are higher priced.
