Praying for y'all... we moved over 3 years ago as well and everything is 1.5 to 3.5 hours from us, so we know how hard it is for y'all. I also lost my colon and have dealt with the life changing almost death as Jeremy, still dealing with all the medical issues... Y'all've done a fantastic job and it's your journey... no one has a right to diss you for what y'all did and are doing! I'm so proud of y'all, and thank you for taking us on this journey with you.. I can understand and relate. Due to cancer, I too am missing an original part of me, and due to slowly losing my vision I was forced to retire after 32 years at the same job and my wife and I have also suffered through multiple miscarriages! I too am a recent subscriber and I'm so sorry Jeremy is suffering with colon issues. My hubby is retired US Navy Chief and he suffered many years while in the navy with colitis an autoimmune disease until a few years before retirement he got the surgeries scheduled as part A and part B. Had his whole colon removed and was expecting to have to wear the bag for months after surgery in order for healing to occur prior to Part B. However when he woke from part A surgery the doctors were able to perform an Ileoanal anastomosis by using his small intestines to build him a J pouch, that to this day functions exceptionally well with no issues. No more pain or any food issues except for onions he just can't handle. Not long after, he was medically approved for duty and deployed to the Mediterranean. Much success to you guys in finding your home to be. Homesteading is a lifestyle and the nice thing about it is you can take the parts of it that fit well with your lives and still enjoy the fruits of it with or without a grid. As soon as the stress is minimized your lives will improve in measure. There is a bright 2020 ahead...I just know it.

Having lived the military for almost 3 decades, you're right once the military scoots you out of their ranks, it's a challenge to determine what and how you're going to make it. Believe me when I say I know what it's like to live without a colon and the side effects! Not fun. Also Ashley, my thoughts kept returning to the fact that you are working so hard lifting and hauling. At least if you have a ready made home the things that you mentioned that need to be built can be done gradually and not in a huge hurry. Whatever you wonderful folks decide to do I know you will be blessed! I'm very thankful that we get to follow you in your new journey!

You do what's best for you as individuals and as a couple. I made the mistake of moving out into a country area with a chronically sick child and realised when I was dashing down Icy roads to get her to the hospital one night in an emergency that it had been a very bad idea. So I'm no-one to judge. ❤

I understand the severity of Jeremy's illness and I urge you to keep med services in mind while hunting for your new home. You are both amazingly strong people and I am in awe of what you have accomplished together in spite of your setbacks and disappointments. Medically retired Army family here too. We're both in our 30s, we have 4 children getting ready to welcome our 5th in june after a 3year battle. My better half almost didn't come back from Afghanistan. After 9 and a half years service he struggles with the loss of his career. He's disabled with both mental and physical disabilities. Our home burned down 2 years ago and we've struggled daily since then. One huge recommendation we would give y'all is get him a service dog. His service dog has been a life saver. The wars never over for this family and he will always suffer with his injuries. Please remember you're not alone!!! Best of luck to y'all!!!

Yeah....just kidding haha. Was to Kingston Peninsula this past fall and some beautiful properties there as well along Darlings Island. Good luck in you search for the right place and sale of your property. I'd encourage you rent a few months if need be though to find the right place over getting into something that really isn't what you are hoping for and gonna make you happy long term.

Having a purpose in life is Super Critical for ones mental health. Kudos to you both for pushing forward! Keep it up and keep us posted on your progress with the "not for sale" homestead!

We are on our second house while living in it and it is no picnic. You have done amazing for a healthy couple let alone what you have gone through. Have your Dr. Check you for blood clotting issues. If your blood does not clot in a timely manner that could be the reason for the miscarriages. Took my niece 3 lost babies and 4 Dr.s to find out that was the cause. Has two beautiful kids now.

Even 5 acres would make yourself self sufficient for chicken, fruit and veg and less land to manage. Check out richard perkins ridgedale farm, justin rhodes, there is a couple with a chanel in alaska homesteading.

I too am disabled. So I totally understand. It’s a new life. You say goodbye to every thing you plan in a career. I had to stop working nine years ago. I was in my forties. My husband has helped me so much. We have a homestead but have not lived on it. Just visit. Would love to have it set up to go for a week at a time. It’s on a river. So it’s a popular boating area. We are living closer to a large city because of doctors. And my husband is working. He’s studying to open his own company. After working as an electrician for 28 years we could see that his health was failing. After I lost my health I sure didn’t want my husband to experience that. I have a rare form of psoriatic arthritis. Called mutalins. I under what happened to your husband. My father is dealing with that. Hoping you enjoy your new journey. God bless, Leslye

Take Elvis' advice ....a la ....Viva Las Vegas ....."little less talk and a little more action" ..... ha ha You might decide it's easier to build from scratch vs renovating an existing structure, depending on what is available on the market. I have found a lot of problems with our old house and anytime we renovated there were lots of fixes to what was "wrong" with the original build. And we paid plenty of money to get the house with "original build problems". Additionally, we were limited to the design that someone else needed, not based on our needs. You may find something that is a very good fit, but with the experience & knowledge you have from building your home, you should be well prepared for "the next one" if you choose to build.
