But let's be realistic here. Yes the student loan delinquency ratio is high. But if the government do not guarantee those student loans, no financial institutions are going to lend to these group of people. Not everybody has a rich mom and dad that can pay for their college education. That would deprive a lot of Americans from getting a college degree. Which is worse? I guess we ought to look at the big picture.

I've never understood the odd fascination around college when I was in school. I remember going to the counselor in 12th grade and her asking which schools I wanted to applied to. I didn't want to apply to any. College was not in my future. I had no idea what I wanted to do other than be a writer. So I felt pressured to choose these schools and then finally at the end of it all just told her I really didn't want to do it and would figure it out later. I felt judged. Just crazy! I will never make my children feel like they have to go to college, and if they do, they must know what they want to do and be able to pay for their own loans.

Matthew Edwards Grew up in Canada, sometimes I wish I had gone to college but didn’t...you can always find excuses. Money, support... I decided to go back to my birth country Switzerland at the age of 22 after completing a scam of an apprenticeship in Canada as a Baker. Worked in factories all my life with not that bad of pay but it was and still is hard work. My 4 children are all educated here and are finished or are in rolled in the apprenticeship program here. My son is in his 3 rd year training as IT specialist. One daughter is a hairdresser. In August my other daughter starts her training as a nurse. My youngest son will probably get into mechanical training. This all costs me practically nothing and the trainees even get paid a small salary. All will have jobs when finished.... I personally think it’s a fantastic system and never regret leaving Canada for the sake of my children having it better than what I had to go through.

I’m thankful for the friends I made at college, for the culture, the study abroad opportunity, the discovery of a specific passion, the faith growth-but I do wish I had the brains to consider a gap year or something. I went into debt to get a job I hated so that I could pay off....the debt. Kudos to women (and men) who are smart and go to college with a career goal in mind. But that’s not my style-I’m artsy and I’ve had a lot of tension with my dad about this. Sooo yeah.

I don’t think it’s fair to say that about ANYONE who’s 18. I keep circling back to this, but if our society stopped babying teenagers, we’d be so much more adjusted. Infantilization is associated with higher rates or psychopathology, such as mental illnesses.

Most fail to understand that the US Economy is based on Debt consumption. If people don't take out these loans such as; auto, home student, and personal loans the economy starts to dry up. Meaning the Federal Reserve always has to keep printing money and making insane loans, that's why its "GUARANTEED" Wake up America, learn about the Federal Reserve, Monatery Policy, Fractional Reserve Banking, 1913 Federal Act, Brentwoods Agreement etc. Before this whole Debt based economy BLOWS UP.

Preach it Dave!!!! Most of the people I know that went in debt, or have completely paid for their college are not even in the field their degree is in! I’ve even known some to graduate in a lot of debt, couldn’t find a job in that field. Then they decided to go back for their masters in that field! Why? Because it was easy for them! It’s insane to keep piling up the debt when theirs no jobs in that field! My dad and brother never went to college and they are high up in their company. And making a lot more than those I know that went to college. Plus they didn’t have to go into debt to do that.

I'd challenge you to consider the overall return on investment on taxpayer funded loans. Consider the negative impact on the Macroeconomic level of the US GDP if those loans were NOT being made. Many of my peers used these programs to get engineering degrees and now have skills that contribute to the greatness of our national economy. There certainly is an issue with issuing blank loan checks to kids without any sort of rigid institutional requirements, but that's the tradeoff of living in a free society. IN GENERAL the federal subsidized loan program should be considered an investment in the long term economic viability of the USA.
