My Reynolds 531 is a much better ride than a 90's Ali full sus mountain bike. Same wheels n tires, different ride. I'd love an 853. When considering weight you need to look at the overall system weight including the rider.
Weight is only one measure of performance. That subtle flex in steel frames improves traction and reduces fatigue, so improve performance in other areas.
Is there any advantage to using lugs over tig welding on the high end Reynolds tubing such as 853 and 953, such as strength or durability of the joints/tubes? It is hard to find builders using lugs on the high end steel
