It's a tribute to their parenting skills that all their children ended up successful in life: Bill works at Gringott, Charlie is training dragons in Romania, Percy works at the Ministry, so did Ron before he went to help George with his successful business, Ginny became a professional Quidditch player. And their only son-in-law is the Boy-Who-Lived. That's a good track record right there!

You realize even if someone is in a house they may not have all the qualities of that house. Arthur is a brave man in the sense of fighting for what is right to him, he also has a kind and chivalrous soul; these are why he is a gryffindor. However he lacks confidence, which is not even a stated gryffindor trait just common among the House. He can still be a gryffindor and be un confident. Saying all griffindors are confident is like saying all Slytherin are evil or all Hufflepuffs are boring.

ann From what I can tell the best channels are the ones people have watched for longest and the ways you can get more are to either make longer videos or to make a lot of them, this makes channels that fire lots of videos in a short time succeed while channels that take longer on one and instead make it quality fail or take longer.

I absolutely disagree with your analysis of Arthur Weasley. Arthur wasn't a laughing joke among his peers,only among those who disdained Muggles and those who lacked integrity. In the books, Arthur was respected by many in the ministry. He was not respected, however, by many in power simply because he would not sell out his integrity and cater to those like Lucius Malfoy and Cornelius Fudge who were out for themselves. Lucius Malfoy's disliked Arthur because Arthur was a better man than himself. Men like Malfoy and Fudge are petty and would have taken pleasure in blocking promotions for Arthur. However, Arthur was respected by Kingsley, Amos Diggery, Lupin, and other members of the Order of the Phoenix. If he hadn't, he would never have been on patrol the night he was attacked. Arthur was not poor because he lacked character. He was poor because he had character and would not waver from his principles.

It's implied in the books that Arthur wasn't promoted because fudge didn't respect him because "he lacked wizarding pride" i.e. he wasn't racist towards muggles. This is a very poor video, you didn't explore the mechanics of the wizarding world and how people can struggle for money in a world with magic

I thought the Weasley house was so cool. The Weasley's are like many Americans, Canadians, British, Irish, French, and so on about families just barely making a living and having little. That is why they are so relate-able.
@astrinymris9953
@astrinymris9953 7 лет назад
Part of the problem was that the Weasley parents were horrible at managing money. In the first book, they bought Percy an unneeded luxury (a new owl), but poor Ron didn't even get his own wand, having to make do with Charlie's old wand, despite the fact that it's canon that new wizards should be individually "matched" with a new one. Also, when Arthur winds a large cash award, instead of sensibly putting it in the bank to use for their children's predictable future school expenses, they blow must of it on a fancy vacation! Though they do at least buy poor Ron a new wand first. While it's canon that the family had a lot of love for each other, it's also canon that a lot of them felt the stress of not being provided for, financially or emotionally. Molly couldn't even remember what foods and colors Ron preferred. And the antique dress robes she foisted on Ron were every bit as horrible as the oversized hand-me-downs from Dudley which Harry had to wear. It's noteworthy that NONE of the Weasley offspring emulated their parents by having a similarly large family. Ginny and Bill had three kids apiece; Percy, George, and Ron stopped at two. They loved Molly and Arthur, but they weren't about to subject their own children to what they went through.

I think another factor to consider is what Molly said of Cornelius Fudge at the end of the Goblet of Fire: "It is Arthur's fondness of muggles that has held him back at the ministry all these years. Fudge thinks he lacks proper wizarding pride". Because Arthur was so fascinated with muggles and their culture many people in the ministry especially those with strong beliefs in blood purity viewed him as a disgrace to the name of Weasley and that racist attitude held him back.

Isn't the issue of their lack of wealth because Arthur chose an administrative position that dealt with muggles. Even at Hogwarts Muggle Studies is considered a soft subject. I can only imagine that going into a Muggle Study-related profession would be similarly undervalued and hence undercompensated.

This is not the video I was hoping for. The Weasleys are an old pureblood wizarding family. To say they're "poor" only because of their income is ignoring the Weasleys from before. It's not like Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy have jobs, yet they're rich. They inherited a lot. So why did the Weasleys not? What is it about Arthur's lineage and Molly's lineage that didn't give them much to start off with? Did Arthur's parents also work middle class job with low ambitions, working for love and not money? What sort of family did Molly come from? Do Arthur or Molly have a ton of siblings? Have their family lines always been poor to middle class? (I agree with Darrow1991's comment that Ron's family is middle class rather than poor) This video only explains how the Weasleys are "poor" in the context of the Muggle world, not the wizarding one.

from what I remember Arthurs dad Septimus Weasley was the youngest of 7 brothers, his marriage to Cedrella Black made her a blood traitor so it is likely the Weasley family fortune might have been not very good by that point. im not sure about Mollys families status but she also had 2 older brothers who were killed by death eaters, we don't know if they had any family so Molly might not have inherited much

I've often wondered if the Weasley's remained poor after Fred and George finished school, not because of their business, but because they had only two children in school, reducing their biggest annual expense substantially. They are a magic family so they didn't have energy bills, and they also saved on their food bill as they grew their own Veg and had Chickens for eggs, and who knows maybe other animals as well. (Considering how much they ate I doubt food was expensive.) So the only real expense would be Tuition fees for Hogwarts.
@gidzmobug2323
@gidzmobug2323 7 лет назад
hmoham And books and supplies. Some things, like the wands, were a one-time expense. But there were books every year (especially at third year), and basic potion ingredients to be refilled. As Molly made her children's clothes, she probably made minor robe alterations as needed.

Avery Hogwarts supplies would have been pricey (Ron's stuff was handed down from his brothers, but he did get a new wand in book #3). It looks, though, as if the Weasleys had a garden, so they might have grown a good many things.

What i didnt get is why molly didnt go to work after ginny was starting at hogwarts. She was the last child to be supervised, after ginny molly would be alone at Home all day every day for most of the year. She easily could have gotten a job, she obviously was a great witch!
@mada14potter
@mada14potter 7 лет назад
Yeah...but at this point she has gotten used to not working and Arthur probably got used to come home to a freshly cooked meal. For stay at home parents it's a way of life and they form a routine for every day. Having to watch over the kids was just a part of it. And who would take care of the kids during the holidays or the summer if she starts working.
@emiliana1767
@emiliana1767 7 лет назад
Bookish i get what you mean, but routines are important for every brain, its the best way to save energy. Everyone can get used to anything and molly was a capable, strong, qualified witch, she surely would have enjoyed to use her magical abilities for more than cooking and cleaning. She could have easily taken a part time job and still would have enough time to literally wizz up a meal with a spell in seconds. And having the kids over the holidays can be managed with a part time job, what 11+ year old kid needs all day supervision anyway, especially with older kids around to help out. I think the only reason why jkr let her stay at home was because the weasleys needed to be poor to be likeable. Not that they would have been rich with mollys part time job, but probably not as poor. Its sad that a single mother like jk made the strongest motherly figure so dependant and limited.

Divine Pearl I understand her purpose was to serve everyone else, but it seems there still would have been more than enough time to actually do paid work. In hogwarts no human needs to cook or clean. (no disrespect to elves lol)

because they had so many kids, lived in a high cost of living country, and only one parent had a paying job. The financially independent children never came back home or sent back money either I don't think. It costs about $1m to raise a child today, so that's a lot of money... As bad as it sounds, I often notice that the richest families in the western world have max two children, usually only one or none. The poorest ones in the developing world have 6+ kids each so that the children can support the parents when they are no longer able to work...

Simple answer: what other wizarding family do you know with THAT many kids? Any family with that many kids is gonna be poor especially with only 1 parent as the breadwinner and that parent works in an obscure government office that may be shut down at any point because most people think its a useless office/profession
@Darrow1991
@Darrow1991 7 лет назад
This always bugged me; The Weasley's were not poor. Ron always said that, but Ron saying it does not make it so. They had a home that was theirs; this immediately makes the Weasley's far richer than most. Arthur also had a steady middle class job; his wages were likely above average for Wizards. (Ask yourself, who made more money, Arthur Weasley or Stan Shunpike (or Cattermole)). While the kids had a lot of hand me down things, they never really wanted for anything. Also, they had savings at Gringotts; not as much as Harry's, but having savings and being poor often don't go hand in hand. The Weasley's were not rich by any definition. But they were not poor either. They were a large middle class family with all that entailed.
@nickdentoom1173
@nickdentoom1173 7 лет назад
True. But what truly made them rich: The love for eachother.
@TheKyleNelson
@TheKyleNelson 7 лет назад
No it was in the books that they had no money. I think it was the 2nd book that talked about how they went to their gringots vault and Harry saw they only had a couple coins and took all of them out and Harry feeling bad about. I don't even think they had a single galleon.
@Darrow1991
@Darrow1991 7 лет назад
Kyle Nelson. Yes they did not have much savings; far less than Harry. At the beginning of chamber of secrets, they took all the money out of Gringotts. Again, that doesn't make them poor. The Weasley's were a solidly middle class family and had all the trappings of one.
@dancingrl212
@dancingrl212 7 лет назад
Darrow1991 You mention Arthur possibly making more than Stan Shunpike or Reg Cattermole. Even so, neither of those two had a family of at most nine two look after.
@Darrow1991
@Darrow1991 7 лет назад
dancingrl212 We do know little about Stan. However Reg Cattermole has 3 children (and I think they are young children from the description in Deathly Hallows). That means that they had a family of 5 living at home, when at the beginning of the novels the Weasley's had 6 living at home (Bill and Charley having moved out and started working on their own). We also know that the Cattermole's were not an old Wizarding family, whereas the Weasley's were. That last fact makes me wonder whether the Burrow has been in the Weasley family for more than a generation?
@DummyForceRed
@DummyForceRed 7 лет назад
I didn't think it was because of Arthur's lack of ambition (though I don't imagine he would have had much), but because of the Weasley reputation. They were well known to be a pureblood family that didn't despise muggles as the others did (the fact that Arthur was a such a muggle enthusiast didn't help him either), to other noble pure-blood families, they were an abomination in the wizarding world, and given the 'fitting name' blood-traitor. "My whole family are blood traitors! That's as bad as Muggle-borns to Death Eaters!" -Ron Weasley The most influential people in the ministry were for the most part, pureblood.
@MultiBigbird01

True! Arthur was fascinated by muggles, something that other wizards, and his seniors all deplored about him, and this was the biggest reason for his zero progression.

I knew kids in school who came from big families like the weasleys and didn't have as much money as my family did. But I was an only child and my dad moved us around constantly so I was always switching schools. Looking back, I remember those types of kids always seemed happier and more popular than I was. I was always really happy when I made friends with those types of kids because their families were typically very accepting of me

I loved the Burrow. The books make it sound like the home I grew up in and the movies made it look like the home Harry longed for. The home-made gifts, the too small supper table, the too busy having fun to notice we're poor attitude, all reminded me of home. It really hurt to see the Burrow in flames. But a house does not make a home.

I think it's more likely that Arthur was working at a position that he loved but that just didn't pay very well. I can't imagine the ministry considering the study of non-magical muggle artifacts to be worth much. Like many people in the world, he just fell in love with an area of study that didn't pay well and loved it too much to quit.

The amazing thing about the books is that the Weasley children all pretty much end up in their dream job and successful depsite growing up poor. Bill- Good Banking job and married a beautiful, successful woman. Charlie- Dragon caretaker who my guess would become a best selling autor on the subject. Percy- Moved through the Ministry of Magic ranks quickly. He was very hardworking and good at his job even if it when against the family values. Fred & George- Successful entrepreneurs with Harry's help. Both extremely gifted at options and charms(probably the most talented wizards in the family). Fred died a hero, and George continued his legacy. Ron- Best friend/husband to two of the most powerful wizards of all time. Successful auror career as well. First male to the Minster of Magic. Ginny- Professional athlete in quiddich. Married the most famous wizard of her generation, but was also very independent and didn't rest of his laurels. Became the sports editor for the biggest Magical European paper.

They made this apparent in the book series why they didn't have hardly any money. Too many kids. Not enough ambition. Only one working parent. Worst part is, it is even implied that Arthur was offered better positions within the ministry that he refused because he was happy where he was. You'd think they would have taken that into account with Fred and George when they said they wanted to start a joke shop but hey.

Contraception, whether it be mechanical, chemical, or surgical, was a mature muggle technology in the years that the Harry Potter stories were based. That is not an excuse. Then again, Wizards do seem to be somewhat adverse to muggle technology. Even though electric lighting, pencils, ball point pens, and the telephone were all invented long before the time this was based, wizards still rely on candles for lights, quills for writing, and owls to send messages

The weasley are a social indicator to understand why the whole wizard society was sick and not just because of vodlemort. The weasley are the typical archetype of the gryffindor/hufflepuff : brave, worker, kind, curious. They are the idea of kindness and that's for that reason they're poor, because the society is controlled by slytherin mind people. Arthur Wesaley was probably too honest, Lucius prevented him to access more important grades i think. Well, or it was just the idea "do what you like the most, even if you don't gain a lot of money" (he loves muggle stuff), that's the message Weasley handed to his children. That's guts man

Perhaps having dealt with Voldemort demonstrated that the higher up in the ministry made you a target so that was unappealing to Arthur having fought in the previous conflict and since they didn't think Voldemort was gone entirely. Dumbledore knew that it was likely horcruxes existed and this knowledge may have been shared in the order.

I think she probably just took her life with Arthur like a breath of fresh air.

You forgot the very important fact the he worked for the protection of muggles. Wizarding society notoriously did not care about muggle welfare and thus probably did not pay people working for their protection much. Reminder that his department only had two people. He followed his passions in life to a profession that had low upward mobility unless he gave up on some of his morals or changed jobs. After the dark lord's return he does change his job to help the wizarding world and does much better off financially. While this was partially cause of trying to please Harry, the books provide further proof that he was good at his job and a good worker. His low wage could be more representative of wizarding society at large's disregard of muggles and their welfare and NOT some inherent fault of his.

I think they were as rich as any family could hope to be. The children were raised much the way we were with very similar results. Not bad for a bunch of Muggles ! I agree with Mr. Potter. Their's was a Brilliant Home.
