Why Weren't Dagur and Heather in HTTYD 2? || HTTYD Theory 

The thing that really gets me about all this is, it’s the line in the second movie where Hiccup says “there are other dragon riders?” When he KNEW of other dragon riders.

I always assumed that Dreamworks wanted to keep the events from the TV show seperate from the films, as it would confuse the audience of these new characters and events. Also considering that the TV show RTTE was made AFTER the film, so it would’ve spoiled the show to begin with. There have been multiple events that have occurred in the shows that weren’t implemented in the films, and considering more islands now live among dragons, the ending of the third film doesn’t entirely work as not every dragon is gone to the hidden world, yet the films act like Berk is the only island that lives among dragons

i’ve literally seen race to the edge over 10 times, and i freaking love the series. And i was honestly so sad that neither the beserkers, wing maidens or the defenders of the wing were in the second movie, and mostly i wanted to see heather and dagur. But at the same time it makes sense that they weren’t there, because i’m sure not everyone is crazy enough to watch all the short films and tv series. Your reasons behind it is exactly what i thought too. Glad i found your channel! As none of my friends even know about httyd. But here i am, 22 years old and this franchise is my world.

The non-canonical answer is that RTTE was initially only meant to be 4 seasons, before getting extended to 6 later. If you go back to Season 4 you can see how it was all meant to tie in nicely to the second move [spoilers]: Viggo and Ryker dead, the Edge destroyed by the volcano erupting, no Krogan or Traitor/Trader Johann, no Beserker Island or Bewilderbeast under it (so instead the Shellfire attacks Outcast Island which conveniently explains why Alvin isn't in the second film), Dagur remains dead after Family On The Edge, so Heather probably goes off and does her own thing out of the Archipelago. I'm immensely glad we did get another two seasons (some of my favourite episodes are in those seasons - Matter of Perspective etc.!) but it's interesting to see how it may have been all planned to tie in if they stopped in Season 4.

Here’s my theory of why they weren’t in HTTYD 2. The people on Berk didn’t know anything was wrong, they just thought their cheif, Gobber and the riders were out. By the time they knew something was wrong, all the dragons were under the control of Drago’s control, so they couldn’t send a message out on a dragon. Same goes for everyone off Berk. Hiccup was mad at his father and was just flying around and Stoick and Gobber were just looking for him and then found Valka, so there’s no need to send out a message to their allies yet. The other riders were essentially just investigating on their own what was happening so they may not have felt the need to call for help. Then they got captured and couldn’t call for help. Immediately after this they were in battle and didn’t have time to take a moment away from the combat and wright a message that may could take a day or two to reach their allies. After the battle their dragons were also under control of Drago other than the babies and babies don’t listen to anyone and arn’t trained to send messages to other people. So my theory is that everyone either didn’t need to or didn’t feel they needed to send out a message and then weren’t physically able to, at least not with dragons or for it to take a few days. My favorite characters are Astrid, Heather, Toothless, Stormfly and Hiccup.

In the third movie I was hoping to see characters in the background such as Gustav, Fanghook, Mulch, Bucket, Sven, and so on. 🤷 I also hoped to see characters from the TV shows. Probably not in major roles (though I would have preferred that) but just referenced or somehow in the background of the story 🙁 oh well 🙂🤷

As a writer, I can confirm we hate killing off characters. I for one become pretty emotionally attached to mine, building them up and seeing them grow. It's one thing to have them struggle through something you know they'll get out of, but quite a different thing to know that it's the end for them and their story, even if it's to further someone else's story.

Drago got the alpha when it was young bc it is so scared of the hook Drago has. They were (and still are) used to hurt elephants into obedience. Drago couldnt even scratch the alpha if it were fully grown.

Honestly, I think having the characters from the TV shows in the movies, even in the third and final one would have been a good idea, because it would have made the audience unaware of the characters, go and watch the shows.

8:25 I actually think it's way less than a year between the end of Race to the Edge and the beginning of How to Train Your Dragon 2. I heard somewhere that the events of Season 4 of Race to the Edge (okay and the final episode of Season 3 because 2 parter) starts about a year before the events of Dragons 2 and Season 5 about 6 months before the events of Dragons 2, so chances are there's probably only a few months between the end of Race to the Edge and the beginning of Dragons 2. More to my point the Twins celebrate their 19th birthday in Season 6, and they're 19 in Dragons 2

Two weeks? It feels like months to me. My favorite character is Dagur, Scuttleclaw, and Prickleboggle (it hasn't made an appearance. I found it in the wiki while searching for healer dragons out of curiosity). The Scuttleclaw is my favorite mostly for its body structure of a wyvern, similar to Nadders without the spikes, and easy to train dragon. Plus it is adorable no matter the age.

Or maybe, those tribes went on a long quest to search for other dragon species and so couldn't help, then when they got back they merged into the hooligan tribe to better protect dragons. And the line there are other dragon riders? meant that there weren't more that he knew of

Dagur and Heather are not Dead they where just none Cannon For some reason And also They Live As Heather was the new Chieftess of Berserker Island While Dagur was king of the Defenders of the Wing since he married Mala Lol 😂

I like the second theory best, I mean from a writer's perspective its kind of a cop out but it seems necessary for the integrity of the story as a whole. And you're right, adding all those characters in the third film would have been too much for movie fans and possible could have led to some unanswered questions like "What would happen to the baby razorwhips if the dragons had to leave?" "How would the culture of the wing maidens change after they left?" "What would happen to the island of the Defenders of the Wing if the Eruptodon left?" Now that I think about it, I'm quite happy with some of these plot holes. Its more fun for us fans to come up with theories annyway! P.S. This is way off topic but I just found your channel and immediately when I saw you I thought, "Oh my gods its Annabeth Chase!" Astrid is, for me, the greatest characther. She's strong and brings courage to hiccup. I don't forget her beauty too.

I think the explanation for Hiccup asking “There are other dragon riders?” Is that he doesn’t know of any dragon riders that he didn’t influence. At that point in rtte, the only dragon riders he knew where the ones who only began riding dragons because of him. Like Heather and Dagaur. They wouldn’t be riding dragons without hiccup.

Also, didnt snotlout kiss a wing maiden in race to the edge, so did they die too?!?!?!?

I know I'm like seven months late and should be sleeping but I love the content, loved watching httyd when I was 8/9 but now ten years later I forgot how amazing it is. And I would like to say Viggo is my favorite character he is alot like me we both have a deep passion for strategic and when he had a change of heart and sacrificed himself for Toothless and Hiccup was a sad moment for me since I was very attached to him, yes he was bad but in the end he died for the future of dragonkind. What happened to Valka in HTTYD: homecoming? It’s after HTTYD 3

The real reason is because the original animators and cast and back to make httyd 2. So Heather and dagur weren't created by original animators and they didn't know if they wanted to put the same cast or a new one. Plus they lived on a different island so new fans who haven't watched the TV shows would be confused because they didn't see them in httyd 1. But if they didn't move they might have put them in a few clips maybe with no voice but they would have sound effects like cheering because Heather and dagur needed some sound lol.

Could they have called for help tho? When the Alpha dragon was calling all the dragons? That means Dagar and Heather's dragon would have been summoned. Which would only leave the Wingmaidens because they have baby dragons. 🤔🤔🤔

The short logistical answer is that, unfortunately, the series are not considered full canon. The director stated in an interview that viewers can personally choose how to feel about the series but for the sake of the events in the main films, they are not relevant or influential. There are a few plot issues but honestly, I think the series are a wonderful contribution to the franchise in that they give wonderful character depth and Arc to everyone. I did not really care for How to Train Your Dragon until I saw the series and built a rapport with each character as they were mostly reduced to bumbling idiots in the main films. All of the extensive content from the series also makes the ending of the final film even weaker with even more plot consistency, realism, and character flaw issues, not that it did have plenty of that on its own already. Alas, we must simply accept the death of the author premise should we desire something else for the conclusion of this franchise. Nice video, it's good to see people still care, analyze, and enjoy the franchise.

So. I believe they didn't showed up bc it would be confusing to the people, that only watched the movies. When suddenly people show up that where never mentioned in the first movie and even if they watched riders/defenders of berk, they would know them but be confused as to why they are suddenly allies. Those are side characters for the shows that you can't put in the movies

Hi so I wanna say something I recently have kinda noticed in the series and movies. (This is my opinion but I’d love for anyone to reply Im curious as to y’all’s opinions are) In the movies especially the third one the characters Fishlegs, Snotlout, And ruffnut seem different.. let me explain, I’ll start with Fishlegs, in the series race to the edge we rlly get to see his “nerdy-ness” and love for knowledge as well as how he notices most things the others don’t. We know he’s definitely intelligent and good hearted tho in the third movie of HTTYD the hidden world he seems more clueless, clumsy, more shy/ quiet, and was way more afraid of things and jumpy while in the series he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind, he was more careful, and less afraid of things and he was way more confident and mature I feel like in the movie he lost all of that. Onto Ruffnut, in the series she’s crazy and odd it’s true but she was also fierce, loving, mature, smart, and seemed so much closer and more comfortable with the other riders and including her brother tuffnut, we got to see them bonding, risking their life for eachother, and willing to be without eachother if it means the other will be happy. We see ruffnut grow so much, but then in the third movie she lost it. They made her seem way more childish, immature, and for some reason rlly I don’t wanna say something inappropriate but they made her want, well let’s say be in a relationship? To me she looked like she was throwing her body around in weird ways trying to show something off. I felt like they did her wrong she deserved way better to her part of the story before I saw the third movie I expected to see a smart helpful mature version of her but we didn’t get to see that. With snoutlout they just made him even more dumb and clueless even tho in the series he started figuring things out, learning from his mistakes, and trying to help out the riders. He became closer with them and started getting comfortable with showing emotion. In the third movie(that’s the 30th time I said that) I feel as tho they made him clueless, reckless, for some reason in love with hiccups mom??, and overall he seemed to be the same Arrogant, obnoxious, kid we saw in the first movie. I’m just gonna say this is my opinion, I just feel like the ppl that made the movie did all of them wrong, and made them out to be way more immature, and they got the movie to focus more on hiccup Astrid and toothless. I understand it all started with them but I feel as tho Fishlegs, ruffnut and snotlout deserved way better. Again this is my opinion but it’s ok to reply I’d like to know what y’all think about it.

What actually happen is that the animators said that dagur and Heather are in a series and not in a movie and the series was "after" the second movie came out and also what the animator put is that heather will be a aunt in queen mala and King dagur's family therefore she is stuck in berserker island with her responsibility and also the animators said that said "dagur and Heather" will be stuck in the island for various reasons so there not a lore is true story. And the animators animated that heather say that she will stay and live with dagur in beserker island for a very good reason.

Ok, quick thing. In one theory, she said that maybe this just happened to the beserkers and Drago took their alpha except, in a conversation between Gobber and Stoic during the time of Viggo, they discuss an event that occurred BEFORE HICCUP WAS ALIVE involving Drago controlling dragons, so technically Stoic probably knew the whole time that Drago was out there, just never told Hiccup. Mind blowing!

I just assumed that since Dagur and Mala got married, and the Defenders of the Wing were against riding dragons, that Dagur stopped riding (doesn't explain the other riders not being there though). Either that or none of the Berkians thought to contact their allies (due to all the emotions they were going through) OR they simply didn't have time to.

Why is no one mentioning the a team? They should’ve been in the movie because even if you didn’t see the shows it just makes sense. They could’ve contributed a lot

I think someone has surely sent a message to their allies, so the Meatheads, the Berserkers, the Outcasts, the Wingmaidens and the Defenders of the Wing, but only to tell them what is about to come. Probably the Berserkers didn't even get the message before the death of Stoick. And let's not forget how far the Wingmaidens and the Defenders of the Wing are from Berk. You need around 1.5-2 days to get from Berk to Dragon's Edge. And I assume these two societies are even further away. So let's say they are both 3 days away from Berk. It takes 3 days to simply get there, then at least one day to prepare and to let your dragons have a rest, and then another 3 days to go back, not to mention that Valka's sanctuary must be even further away from them. So it's 6 or 7 days. This is more than the entire film's storyline.

I think that when valka was taken away she was took to bezerker island and the reason that she didn’t come out when daggur and the rest of the tribe was living there was because she was gone trying to save another dragon

i would like to point out that it took a day to reach the great beyond from berk, and this isn't even adding on the extra distance to berserk island plus they would also need to sort out supply's in order to move there that would take a while and numbers as well which would take a few hours or a day or two to sort out. plus dagur and heather would most defiantly come with the whoever they send so he would have to sort out temporary leadership of the island (or at least of his duty's.) so at this point it has probably been at least four or five days until they are there. due to the fact that the whole thing with drago happened in a few days there would be no time for them to come and help. plus from my recent rewatching there isn't anything that would be urgent news until drago kills the bewilderbeast and after that it the rest of the movie was in three or four days no were near enough time to get help from them. most fights in the great beyond are fought with only five dragons and dragons have a massive edge over humans so most berkians probably didn't think to send a message until it was too late. So all together it was just a matter of not enough time to do anything at all.

Ok so the reason is because the second film came out 1 year before rtte. And in riders/defenders of berk Dagger was in prison and Heather was no where to be seen! So that’s probably why.

My theory is short and simple, more can add onto it but its, heather and dagur have moved on to new lives away from this mess mostly because they discovered new lives, and im not sure where shatter master fits into this but i’m guessing judging by the distance he is away from the wilderbeast dragon thing, he didn’t respond to the call. So Dagur didn’t need to save him. And Heather…idk she might have been out there rescuing dragons alone with Dagur as help I guess.

This made a lot of sense yet still sad that hiccups siblings wasn't in the movie's and I like dragons to so enjoyed it very much.

In my mind I think that they did send a message to the tribes but by the time they got it they had already defeted drago so the other tribes helped rebuild and helped out afterwards and with the third movie they were more worried about saving the dragons that they did send out a letter telling the wedding between hiccup and Astrid but that's just theory

Apparently Heather and Dagur were supposed to appear in the canceled Fire Tides graphic novel. So that was probably going to explain why they weren’t in the second film.

That's like if u say why there weren't Viggo and Ryker in it but yeah there is a moment in RTTE where Heather says *We aren't kids anymore*

Maybe the wingmaideds and berserker where not there but they moved islands to a much much far distance so maybe the destroy was not really known about

I don’t think there dead because dagur married mala and instead lived on a different island after the bewilderbeast leaving berserker island which makes the defense weak. They moved in with mala because they got a doc for dragons and they have more defenses also it was away from the archipelago so it was prob to far for them to reach berk

HTTYD race to the edge is a Netflix original, so maybe that's why they didn't put any of the people from race to the edge into HTTYD 2, but then again, stoick met skullcrusher in race to the edge, and skullcrusher were in both httyd 2 and 3, so maybe dreamworks purposely wanted to leave us hanging.

Favorite character…? Def Garff the deathsong. Love the deathsong species but garff is adorable.

I sadly think it is the third option. The alpha living underneath Berserker Island is not Drago's Bewilderbeast however, they look very different. Also, in the third movie, they act like Berk is the only island that coexists with the dragons. This is possible if the other people who lived among them got killed with their islands destroyed. The dragons fled to Berk which is another reason why Berk is so overcrowded. The Berserkers and other islands where destroyed and killed just a few days before HTTYD 2, so Berk became overcrowded only a few days after HTTYD 2.

Of topoc but whatever what happend to valka in homecoming, I think she took with cloudjumper, they lived together for 20 years she was one of the dragons.

The most obvious reason is that how to train your dragon happend in 2014 and the race to the edge premiered its first season on 2015 so the Writters probably forget to mention that these two will be in the rtte series or something like but I’m still not sure why didn’t they mention them in the 3 movie welll whatever 🤣

And don’t always forget the berserkers are with the defenders of the wing tooo😊

Personally my favorite character is snotlout, he's funny, and he has pretty good character growth throughout RttE.
