There are other countries they can outsource that stuff to. Thus, when the West adopted India as a potential replacement for China, they decided that they were not going to let this new project get out of hand. As India is completely dependent on the West for its growth over the last 25 years, it would be better if India does not try to become too independent, before it is capable of those things. Russia's economy is growing handsomely, and it is likely to continue even after the SMO due to its continued export of natural resources, and manufacturing in the civilian areas, including consumer. Russia is coming up with their own civilian aircraft soon, better engineered and sleek models of car, white goods among many other manufactured products. Sure, China will play a role in exporting its manufactured goods to Russia but that does not necessarily translate into overtaking the Russian market. Russia is strategic diplomacy is also successful because of its strengthened economy and better future prospects. Having said all that, am still open to learn and persuation to the contrary.

Entire western countries have been wrong all this while about Russia and can be seen on the ground. So called geo politics analysts, some of the former generals too, in/from India have not been any different by coming up with incorrect assesment about SMO and otherwise. Obviously gaslighted by PR agencies hired by the vested interests in the West. Saving grace has been that fortunately, people, mainly from Indian foreign ministry and a few of former ambassadors (that I know of) have pretty good grasp of the things.
