Thank you for bringing this back. I appreciate your hard work to educate our industry. 💖 My questions for Jim and the team; Should every nail tech invest in an industrial dust and fume collector? | Please demonstrate and breakdown the ingredients that go into LE products, how they work and why they are chosen over other options. | What is the future of LED UV lamps? Is the technology advancing and should we expect to see new LED bulbs etc? | How effective are medical masks against dust particles? | What are your red flags when reading an SDS for a product? | Please give us a history lesson of the beginning of LE and specifically how you went about first the manufacturing process and how it's changed over the years.

Hi Maeldeis Nail Rituals - thank you for your support. dust and fume collectors can be wonderful and hampering at the same time. They can be cumbersome in their bulk which can make working difficult. There are some very nice units that can be inserted into the working surface and some of these can be quite good. What ever you choose, you should make certain that you can work with the equipment because sometimes they are so large that you cannot work and then the cost is a waste of money. Secondly, choose one that removes dust and also has an activated carbon filer that removed the odors from the air. This is especially favorable in the winter time if you live some place cold. Thirdly, do your research and make certain that you purchase a high quality unit. Fourth, do not buy one that is loud. If the unit is too noisy, you will not use it. Lastly, get recommendations from people who have had the units for over a year. If I were to shop for a unit, I would see if I could source a unit that evacuated the nail station to an area outside if possible.

Thank you for bringing Chemist Corner back. Not only do I beautify the hands but I also educate my clients on what I am putting on them. I think it’s important to be transparent in ingredients. I have turned down a TON of product because the ingredients were sketchy.

My other question is about the gel polish remover in a bottle that you paint on top of gel polish. Please investigate the magic gel polish removers that are being accused of being paint stripper. If your lab could check the actual ingredients inside of these and discuss the dangers, that would be amazing.

We cover this in the video that we have already done. The testing that we conducted on the two products is solid chemistry. I think you will be pleased.

Hi Jim loving your chemistry videos can you share whether akzents hard gels are safe to use and why. Is this a good brand for gel products? They use di/bi Hema by the looks of their ingredients. Would appreciate an explanation.

Thank you for a great video. Could you please explain what aliphatic urethane acrylate is and should it be avoided?
@jimmcconnell6079
@jimmcconnell6079 2 года назад
Aliphatic urethane (meth)acrylates are resins that do not change color when exposed to UV light. I do not think that they should be avoided as they are typically a very safe component of gel systems. I prefer to use the methacrylated aliphatic resins over the acrylated resins when applicable and appropriate. Did I say that they should be avoided? If I did, it was my mistake.

Hi, Jim how are you? The gel I’m using changed it formula and it’s ingredients are as listed: Acrylates Copolymer, Hydroxypropyl Methacrylate, Trimethylbenzoyl Diphenylphosphine Oxide, Pigments. What is this and should I be concerned? Their old formula contained: Acrylates Copolymer, Trimethylolpropane Triacrylate, Ethyl Methacrylate, Isopropyl Titanium Triisostearate, Ethyl Acetate, Dimethicone, Microcrystalline Wax, Pigments. I guess they changed it to make the gel a bit thinner, idk. Pls help.

I had a lady come to me to have gel soak off and new set put on but it was unknown what was on her nails apart from it was soak of gel polish it was done by another salon it was nightmare to remove and it took over an hour to remove, I used efile first, and it just cloges the bits and the same with sanding bands I must have used around 8 sanding bands and several bits. When I moved on to soak off it was also terrible i was using 90% acetone and it didn't want to come off. I suspected it had some of the bad stuff you mentioned. Do you have any advice for removal if I ever come across this Again??
@chaozinga
@chaozinga 2 года назад
Oh man that almost sounds like MMA 😳😬
@jimmcconnell6079
@jimmcconnell6079 2 года назад
Hi Sarah - the clogging of the bands makes it sound like it had some thermoplastic in it or MMA. All of the testing we have done, I have not seen MMA in the ingredients. Because the product didn't soak off using 90% acetone, maybe 99% acetone will work? If not, then the best option would be to file it off. If the sanding bands got clogged-up and if there is a thermoplastic in the gel polish, then hand filing might be your best option.
