I have been getting testosterone pellets for three years now. They have not only saved my sexual life, but the pellets also significantly decrease the neuropathy in my hands and feet. I also do not struggle with brain fog anymore. I am able to have the energy to workout and put on muscle mass. My skin looks a lot younger, my hair is thick, and I feel great! Until I see more evidence of the harmful effects of the pellets, I plan on staying on them. I get the BIOTE pellets along with taking vitamin a,d,k and DIM
I am 43, not perimenopausal, just noticed a bit less libido and slightly lower mood when menstruating. I asked my Dr about testosterone. My gyn wanted me to use pellet Testosterone, she does it all the time with her patients and they do amazing, even to women +70 without previous HRT. I opted for transdermal and doing good, I think we cannot demonize any treatment, if you feel great with pellets, just continue with it😄
Just an update guys, I’m two weeks into my first Biote with progesterone, DIM and Vit ADK , like the lady above, and like her, I’m feeling so much better already. Libido, sleep: I actually feel rested when waking. But the biggest help I feel was improving my mental health. No one warned me about depression, etc. I was not in a good place, and for no apparent reason . God has blessed me and I have a wonderful life to be grateful for. Then I was feeling crappy FOR feeling crappy and not being grateful!! Like a viscous cycle . I was becoming desperate to just feel like myself again. Thus far, me and my husband see significant improvement. I pray we all find what works for us!!!
Fewer women would go the pellet or compounding route if more GYNs and family medicine physicians understood perimenopause and menopause, and would willingly prescribe HRT. The blame really lies with the medical industry.
I have been going to doctors for two years now and trying to diagnose myself on the web (female doctors 😡) and for the first time in two years I feel hope.
@@denisesspapetite9507 my mom has been feeling like poop for the last two years and the doctors say nothings wrong with her and I been breaking my head trying to figure out what’s going on and honestly if we have to try “compound” meds we will because these “fda” approved meds aren’t always the best anyways its just powerful big pharma that many times pays to get the fda approval and also they dont want to help people they want people to feel sick and take a bunch of other meds smh
55yo here and Testosterone pellets changed my life. I have huge energy, my workouts feel great, and it absolutely saved my libido. I probably would have stopped having sex if it were not for these. I am talking increased blood flow, arousal, lubrication... ALL of it. And you may preach "low dose" but my pellets are transformative and saved my quality of life. Topical testosterone couldn't begin to touch my levels. I'm never going back.
Sorry for delay. If I am reading in my labs correctly that my first visit was in 2019 at 52, free was .59 and total 58. Even though free was technically “high” compared to reference range, my sexual function was big time on decline. Crushing. I am happiest now with total being right around 200. Some docs may freak, but my own obgyn said as long as it’s out of male ranges (i.e.
Recently, after finding out my Testosterone was 3..and my estrogen was sky high, Istarted therapy. I have a tumor on my pituitary gland that messes with everything. After taking the testosterone pellets my estrogen was perfect and my crippling symptoms have gone away!🎉 All I know is I no longer hurt, no more migraines, no more body pain, and Im no longer bed bound.
I had a pituitary tumor as well but they gave me medication to dissolve it. I know some get surgery as well. I understand what you are going through. I don’t have the tumor anymore but I started Biote and I feel amazing. I keep asking myself why haven’t I started this earlier. I believe everyone has their own individual journey on what they need. I’m glad you found what helps.
To clear up misconceptions….She never said no to testosterone. She said no to testosterone pellets that will give dosages that may be too high with the initial injection. She prefers to prescribe AndroGel at a lower dosage for women. Examples of why we should be careful with high doses of testosterone included balding or thinning of hair and enlargement of the clitoris as examples….yuck!
I had my first pellet injection 3 months ago. I felt great the first 2 months, but this last month I’m having severe anxiety, heart palpitations, nervousness, tight chest, etc…it’s debilitating and I’m hoping that once the levels drop back to normal this all goes away. Thank you for your videos. Wish I would’ve found them sooner
Maybe your levels were too high . Was your doctor monitoring your hormone levels before and twice during before your next appt . Did they have you on a DIM supplement? If they didn’t do a few blood test to monitor it before and twice during . Then that could be why . It’s the same thing with any hormone replacement. You and your doctor have to monitor levels and symptoms too. If you not getting all that change doctors . Doctors still have to do with with any type hormone replacement . Not just pellets .
How did it go with tapering off? Sounds to me like your issues were because your pellet was already fading away, meaning your body absorbed it faster than typical. I'm curious if you felt better now than the first two months on the pellet?
It works for some women and some do not. It is just as women who take synthetic hormones and have side effects. FDA approved hormone therapy can be just as harmful.
@thestewpidssld I would like to chat with you about your experience with the pellet therapy. I am having the same issues as you did and want to know where you are with it today.
I gained weight on the cream and freaked out in bed one night when I felt my hairline. Male pattern baldness. I stopped the cream immediately. A little hair is growing back in, but it is very sparse. It is not worth it! My beautician was asking me what happened to my hair because it is so thin now. I pray it grows back.
They’ve changed my life. Until modern medicine takes women seriously, we have to do our own research to treat ourselves. What’s the alternative to pellets. Answer NOTHING. Why? Because medicine and big pharma could give a shit about women. It’s also hard to take advice from a young doctor not experiencing any of our symptoms. You can research and read all you want but you’ll never get it until you turn 50.
I have had testosterone and estrogen pellets in Canada, had them twice, and they have made me feel so much better. I agree with the comments that say they are life changing. I previously felt crazy, was having many headaches, and now I am feeling better. But I can feel when they have been used up and seem to only last for about 4 to 6 months for me. I paid $500 in Canada (BC) plus I need to get blood work done and see my naturopath, so those are all costs as well.
I have been on a 10 year hormone journey and what led me to pellets was the fact that most doctors under dose women on hormones.. I felt like crap! I turned 42 and suddenly could not fall asleep was wide awake 3 straight days! Even Ambien did not put me to sleep.. I lost all body hair, and my pubic hair was disappearing in spots, I just could not function! I lost thousands of dollars going to doctor to doctor and all they offered me was drugs!!! I don’t need antidepressants or xanex or sleeping pills I needed hormones!!! I found out after a couple years I had a dermoyd cyst on my ovary which obviously sucked out all my testosterone.. I was given small doses of estrogen and topical testosterone I never felt well and out of desperation to feel better I got a pellet! Life changing!!! I felt immediately better, was able to play music again and had a wonderful 50th B day party! I did the pellets 5 times and only stopped because getting cut is no fun, going through that every 3 months. I joined a few hormone Facebook groups, found that a lot of women love Testosterone injections so I switched to that, been on them now for 3 years, still don’t feel as great as I did on pellets, but I’m sticking to it for now. NO way would I let my Estrogen level get down to 30, 40, or 50!!! I need mine between 250-350 to feel good. I’m talking about Estridial not total Estrogen. Doctors are still stuck on the lie estrogen causes cancer! Not true!.. I’m working now with a WIley protocol doctor and she herself is 47 looks amazing, and is on 28 milligrams twice a day of Estridial cream and 2 weeks out of the month she uses 900 mg of progesterone she’s vibrant healthy and happy! On No pharmaceutical drugs! I learned number 1 reference ranges mean nothing when your replacing hormones and 2 FDA approved means nothing, they approve drugs every day that kill people. Dr David rosensweet is a hormone doctor many years has lots of RU-vid videos, he doesn’t even do blood test he does the 24 hour urine.. dr Lindsey burksen is a wonderful doctor has lots of RU-vid videos. Dr Kathy Maupin amazing doctor been on pellets for over 20 years, she’s healthy, she says your total Testosterone means nothing it’s the free that matters because a lot of hormones you give your body gets bound by your SHBG.. there is so much that goes into hormone replacement and we’re all so different, my sweet spot is different then someone else’s. Some women need their Estridial 500 to feel great, sleep great etc.. I know women in my hormone groups they have a total Testosterone of 800 and these are females, no side effects they just feel amazing!! I’m very passionate about hormones because of what I went through and most doctors just don’t get it! They don’t get the high doses most of us need, they barely give enough to get rid of a hot flash let alone the many other symptoms of low hormones
I got 100mg testosterone pellets felt great the first month and now after 2 months i feel its gone. I don't know if its normal for a first pellet Anyone experienced the same?
Find a doctor who will work with your t level & increase it until optimal for your body. I have a great hormone specialist who listens to his patients & everyone is on a different dose depending on how they feel. He’ll increase it as long as safe.
I am now off of the testosterone pellets and THANK GOD! I had horrible side effects (you listed most of them during this video.) Side effects that are permanent and affect my self esteem. My husband is and has always been very supportive so it’s (fortunately) not a huge issue but I can only imagine being a single woman who wants to have a mate and having acne, voice change, etc….! Not only the obvious side effects but internal physical effects as well! (Bone density, sky-rocketing hormones in your bloodstream!) PLEASE if anyone is reading this who is considering having “bio equivalent” hormone (testosterone) pellets placed under your skin… DON’T DO IT!
What I don’t understand is why do we need a course that costs $500 ? If she’s a good doctor that wants to spread awareness… she would do it for free. This is ridiculous… charge your patients for your work… not to give information.
I did the pellets and my testosterone was over 200 . I felt horrible actually and gained weight. I was told I was going ti feel so great. . I did for a minute but it wasn’t long before I felt agitated and began to gain weight . I felt trapped. I have struggled to lose the weight and felt absolutely trapped because once it’s there then there is nothing you can really do to adjust anything. Thanks for this video
I started this pellet after was told I needed this. 2000 dollars later and 3 months I feel horrible. Acne, 12 lbs gained, headaches, high emotions, hair under noseand many other places, as well as sweating like i never have before . No energy or libido gained which was something I wanted. Very disappointd and upset. Went to doctor who told me that I probably needed another pill. He said my symptoms were based off of standing next to people who have had their covid vaccine....I was like wth! I'm done with this doctor. This video made me feel like I can get through this and their are other options for future. I'm not crazy. Thank you for posting this.
It actually was great for me too until chunks of hair was falling out. And started balding.. 😒 Finally after 5 yrs on it I’m getting off of it slowly ..
I spent 2 yrs losing 100lbs. Started going into Menopause & saw my Dr for pellets. 3 shots later, my testosterone levels tested at 200, my weight went up 20lbs in a MONTH & now have more belly fat than I did when I was 100lbs heavier. This is a crushing blow for someone who was already struggling with weight. Back to the drawing board & completely heart-sick. Thanks for this info!
I am also experiencing weight gain that is unexplained. My doctor can’t explain it and sort of dismissed it. I am not getting another injection and now need to loose 20 pounds.
My NP said I would lose weight with the pellets…. I did not! Couldn’t lose. I stopped the pellets after getting them for one year. When I stopped I was finally able to start losing weight. It didn’t increase my energy but my libido did increase. Also I did experience headaches.I won’t be getting the pellets again. Going to another obgyn for consultation on testosterone shots which he believes in.
I had a good pellet provider then I moved to another state. My testosterone went from 61 to 239 with the new provider. I’ve gained 20 pounds and feel like crap. I’ve reported my symptoms to my new provider only to be dismissed and was told to eat plant based and take ozempic. What a clown. Time for a new doctor.
I had a bilateral oopherectomy and hysterectomy at 40 years old. I am now 56. I used bHRT (estradiol/testosterone/progesterone) for several years after my surgery, then moved to an island in the Caribbean where bHRT was not available. I tried to be without any hormone supplementation but suffered from every menopausal symptom that exists, so I tried FDA approved HRT (no testosterone, since this country doesn’t see the value in it for women). It was AWFUL! I tried cream, patches, and oral (although I don’t like that due to the high dosage of hormones needed since it must pass through the liver first). I turned to hormone pellets (estrogen and testosterone) and micronized progesterone at night. I now have my life back! I knew I was suffering but had no idea how badly I felt until I received pellet therapy. Now, your comments on the pellet delivery system being one that spikes then wanes is the exact opposite of all of the research studies I have read, and the 4 MD’s (not wellness clinic operators, but MD’s, like yourself) I consulted prior to my choosing the implants. Pellet therapy has been shown to be a SUPERIOR delivery system to oral and topical hormone therapy. Interesting how you dispute this research. Also, multiple studies have shown pellets PREVENT bone loss, NOT increase it! Where are you sighting your research from, Dr. Hirsch? They are also shown to have no increase in breast cancer risk, and a low incidence of side effects, if prescribed and monitored appropriately. I chose pellet therapy, particularly testosterone pellets, due to the evidence of all of the protective measures it provides women - brain health, heart health, breast health, libido - as well as managing the symptoms we experience. With so few choices for women’s health care in this country, how are women to manage their health effectively? Doctors don’t seem to want to apply research outside of the FDA and our government, when there is research to support these things, such as women being supplemented with testosterone; instead, they want to throw anti-depressants our way, and call it a day. I would be interested in hearing what studies you are referring to in this video, and what organizations those studies were funded by. Until then, I will continue to listen to the physicians who recommend this life saving and life changing treatment, and will continue to believe and support the research from people and organizations who don’t have a financial agenda in the ‘game’.
@@mrmxlplk6199 I’m sorry, your comment doesn’t make sense at all. No, I can’t get pregnant since I no longer have the organs for pregnancy. I had them removed due to severe endometriosis. What is the meaning of your comment, and what does it have to do with me asking for examples of the research Dr. Hirsch is applying to her opinion on testosterone pellet therapy? Please advise.
Hi, I am from México. Not very good at engliah. I had my third testosterone pellet and this third experiences was bad. I had breast pains for a month, my libido went up in an unconfortable way, making me anxious, and small bleedings. My doctor saw my uterus with many irregularities and advices me to make an histerectomy. He said my body changed the testosterone into esteogen. Any advices?
@@dianagalvez2052 testosterone can certainly be converted to estrogen. That’s why it’s so important to find a physician who checks blood levels and works with your symptoms in order to ‘optimize’ the levels for YOU, specifically!
Putting testosterone aside, I'm curious if doctors who are NAMS certified will eventually see the importance of being on hormones for life for post menopausal women? I'm looking at bone health, heart health and brain health for life and not just temporary.
I love my pellets ! I lost weight because I did the work I think Sex is way better . I can ski . Play hours of pickleball . My body is almost fat free . Three pounds to go . I’m loving it . I have dr that sits with me and discusses my labs thoroughly . Full labs too
Approximately 5 weeks ago I had my first hormone pallet injection. At the fourth week my body broke out into a rash, I started gaining weight, I feel bloated, itchy scalp and hair loss. Today 5/11/2023 I have had the rash for a week. I have an appointment to get the pellet removed. Thank you for this video I also wish I would of seen it before I received the injection.
My friend and I tested to similar levels with our blood tests and we both got the pellet injections. She loves it, has lost 50 lb effortlessly, and has already gotten her second dose. I never felt different, except I now have acne and a hairy chin and mustache area where I never had before. Scary to think I could be losing my hair too!!! My friend is begging me to try it one more time, because she feels so good and wants that for me, but I think the writing's on the wall.
Hi! Try the cream! I’m using it and it has saved me!! You can feel more comfortable because you can control it! I’m sharing everything about my testosterone cream on my channel come on over!? Let me know if I can help!❤️
I’d recommend a lower dose, every body can absorb them differently. The Compounded creams work great as well at the right dose, which takes a while sometimes. The Andropause gel works to but I got more body/facial hair from that. Best of luck!
Wow, what an excellent presentation. I am a physician in an aesthetic practice and do hormone consulting. At least 1/2 of my patients are getting off pellets and going oral and topical routes. Most post menopausal woman do benefit from low dose testosterone. My biggest issue is many like high levels of testosterone and I have to convince them to stay at female level. All need estradiol and some progesterone to feel better.
The medical community completely abandoned women based on an obviously terrible statistical analysis that was quickly refuted by the correct statistics but doctors and many women still choose to believe the original BAD paper. The research wasn't bad, they way they pooled the data for analysis was bad. The fact that the medical community has a major problem with ignoring and minimizing women's pain, suffering, and quality of life. I have a PhD in biology. I'm firmly founded in the FDA approval process but when perimenapause hit and triggered a major health issue I was desperate and the doctors who only offered FDA approved treatments offered me nothing and sent me out the door. No one offered testosterone except one provider who did pellets. I decided to try it and it got me through a really really hard time. I did not have any of these issues you described. No side effects, no acne, no hair loss, no voice issue. Personally I'd be pretty cool with a larger clitoris, what could be bad about that? They've also put out a paper with over a million people and very few negative outcomes. I ultimately stopped, with no crash or barely noticable change, because I wanted to switch to a more immediate release formula so I could tell exactly how I responded instead of the pellets that had unknown onset and life. Women go to these places because they are desperate. There are LITERALLY no other menopause doctors within 150 miles other than the ones who does pellets and she was so much better than any alternative. I still haven't found a good alternative. I didn't like that she only offered the pellets and no other formulation. Everyone woman I know who into menopause age has been told by their doctor to suffer through because HRT causes cancer. Without exception. Until the gynecological community gets it's shit together and insists all gynecologist are at least given a freakin pamphlet with correct information on treatment options for menopause women will continue to go to bioidentical hormone clinics because they are listened to in those places. Personally I think the so more good than harm. More women feel better and cared for than have rare adverse problems. Are those rare cases of over doses of testosterone more problematic than those 10 million women going with no options except antidepressants and sleeping pills. The medical community lost trust with women with their handling of the data from the women's health study in 2003 and has done literally NOTHING to address it or regain it. Now we are discovering that there have been options to manage pain during in office procedures for decades but we were never offered! Gynecologists have a lot to answer for! I am so incredible glad I had a hysterectomy a year ago so I don't have to fight for pain management during procedures now that I know it is an option. Gynecologists have no one to blame but their own community for women seeking help elsewhere and not believing you when you tell them it isn't safe. Especially when the alternative offered is literally just go home and suffer because that's part of being a woman.
Hello, I respect what you've said here and I'm pretty sure this is the case. I'm taking matters into my own hands and doing low dose testosterone injections. Is that what you do? What has been your experience?
@@jasminemariedarling I take estrogen and progesterone because those are the hormones that are going up and down and causing symptoms during perimenopause. I take birth control pills but I need to find someone to manage my HRT because I'm getting hot flashes and symptoms despite the BC pills and it seems like I shouldn't be. It may be time to start weaning down to lower post menapausal doses but there really is no way to test for this. I literally cannot think when my estrogen is all over the place and low so I'm terrified to mess around with it as I'm hopefully starting a new job and kinda need to think! I can't find anyone to do any testosterone except pellets and I want to try injections or oral medications instead of something that does not have a predictable onset and wearing off timeline. it is very hard to find good doctors for menopause care.
I did the pellet in Feb after several friends saying how amazing it makes you feel, and I HATE IT! I gained almost 10 lbs in a few weeks, I have had 3 migraines and I just don't like it at all. Praying it wears off asap. Worst thing ever!
What I’m finally figuring out after having been on these for years is the intractable weight gain and masculinization of my overall demeanor. I’m a girly girl at heart and I feel so “manly” .. I don’t know how else to describe it.. not to mention the hair growth on my face, abdomen etc and the water retention. I thought I had to treat low t because I had a partial hysterectomy.. I’m going to stop and let nature take it’s course.. there is an increase in energy and definitely improved sec drive but it isn’t worth it.. for me. I’m just grateful I finally figured it out..
I got my blood work done with my GYN after struggling with chronic fatigue, stubborn fat that won't budge despite increased workouts and watching my calories, and my libido is in the dirt. I was told my labs look great except that my testosterone level was at 17. I just went back to see my doc today and had the pellets put in. I'm pretty sure he said the dosage was 8.5. He said he calculated my dosage and asked me to keep a sheet that I fill out once a week to rate my symptoms so he can see how the pellets are working at this dosage. Not sure if I will continue this treatment after this round wears off simply because I just don't have it in me to care anymore about being "fixed" and the number of doctors pushing their agendas whether they are pro pellet or anti pellet is maddening. You would think all medical professionals could get on the same page instead of bashing each other.
I was feeling great! But decided to get testosterone pellets due to low libido. I yet waiting for positive effects. I noticed a bit of a change in a higher libido. But thats it! I been feeling so tired, headaches that turn into migraines that I hadn't had in a long time. Feeling bloated and indigestion that I never had. This was my first round of pellets. I don't think I'm going for my second one 😕. My husband tells me it's all in my head. That I'm blaming everything in the therapy. But I know my body change after the insertion
No, you stand for the pharmaceutical industry. My BHR has saved my life. I feel the best I’ve ever felt. ‘Woman are harming themselves in the effort to feel better” do you hear yourself talk?
Thank you for this Heather. You really are a godsend. I am so tired of women being taken advantage of in this manner, when so many safe and less costly options exist.
I disagree with saying your testosterone needs to be below 60… I have PCOS and I can not even function with my testosterone levels lower than about 120- 150 to 200 is where I feel the best. When my levels are lower I have really bad adrenal fatigue. My estrogen levels need to be around 40-60 for me to function. I am also on progesterone. I’m tired of doctors saying that you don’t need progesterone or testosterone once you have had a hysterectomy. I developed severe histamine intolerance due to estrogen dominance so I have to be on testosterone and progesterone to function. I do agree that pellets are awful I have tried them. The cream works so much better for me.
Trying to learn about all the different tyoes if HRTwhen youre brain is already a mess has been the worst. Always end up more confused and sad and frustrated by this whole stupid thing😢 Have an appointment in 2 days with gal who does pellets and now Im freaking out.
I just left the urologist and this shot was offered for my uterine prolapse. So am not going forward with the shot, thank you. And am 39 years old. Has been very frustrating.
I was on T pellets for 2 years. IT. WAS. AMAZING! Best 2 years of my life! But for each pellet, I needed more and more to get the same effect. And my then Dr. just kept inserting a larger and larger pellet. It didn't intuitively seem right to me, but I had never felt better, so I kept going with it. Until my Dr. moved away and my new Dr. said let's stop the pellets and just re-evaluate. Well, I am on Cream T now, and life is just "ok" have zero libido - not good for my marriage, :( low energy, brain fog is back, etc. But I also know I was 100% addicted to that amazing T high. I sometimes cry and dream about it again, but at what long-term cost to my health? I keep searching for a way to feel vitality again in Perimenopause...
I have been getting Hormone insertion pellet therapy for over 10 years without any side effects. I go approximately every 4 months and get both Estradoil and Testosterone. My physician has her patient's get blood work completed 2 weeks before the appointment and the dose is then based on the individuals blood work levels. I also had a Total Hysterectomy at age 45 for severe endometriosis. I took oral hormone's for 10 years and felt terrible then switched to pellet therapy and it works for me. My physician is caution. Each patient must get yearly mammograms & pap smear. I would say it's like any medication. Some people have side effects and allergies to certain medications but others can take those medications without any side effects or an allergic reaction.
Another great video. I’ve used testosterone pellets, in the past, but I always felt like I shouldn’t, if that makes any sense. I’ve since moved on to compounded testosterone cream. I’m not going to lie, the libido was very high with the pellets but I was always worried that it wouldn’t be good for my long term health. I appreciate your menopause education and recommend your RU-vid channel to anyone that will listen. Thanks!
I did pellets twice and the first time had wonderful energy. The second time I had an extra pellet and noticed more anger and irritability?! Never knew about these other things to watch for. I have thyroid issues and anytime I have thinning hair or any mood changes, I blame it on my thyroid even though I’m on synthroid.
You're so right. I take bioidentical estrogen & progesterone but I had a doctor give me testosterone only once and it triggered PERMANENT androgenic alopecia :(
OMG! Thank you so much for posting this. I have been researching Peri menopause and it is so hard. I have tried pellets one time. I felt like a million bucks, but my libido was a tad overwhelming. I went to this weight loss clinic to get these pellets. My 6 weeks hormone test had my testosterone was at 322. I didn't want to do the pellets again, and at 3.5 months my hair started falling out at the root. Thankfully I have thicker hair BUT I lost about a quarter or more in 3 weeks. I am praying it grows back but it will take years since it was falling out at the root, not just breakage. I want to get hormone replacement cream and such but I have a hard time finding a doctor.
I’m the same as you my hair fell out with testosterone high at 256. I was on pellets. Never take pellets again! I’m on the cream now for two months and I’m hoping my hair will grow back soon.
MY hair started falling out in huge hand fulls. I had tons of hair before the Biote. I think it is the pellets making my hair fall out. If I stop will my hair come back? Does anyone know?
Wow, watching this video and reading the comments....I'm so confused and slightly worried. I've been on the pellets for over a year now. The first night I started the pellets I slept like a baby. Couldn't believe it. Like 8 straight hours. Libido was amazing. I thought I was dead inside. But now my concerns are being validated here. I'm a singer. I've noticed my voice is lower and it's hard to hit the notes! Acne, extra hair everywhere except my head, expensive and throw on top 10 extra pounds. Dangit! I really thought it was a game changer. I will cancel my next appointment. I'm sad to see/feel my libido go away.
Were you on estrogen pellets or just testosterone? I'm a singer, too, but only on testosterone. My acne got much better, which I've had lifelong and now attribute to estrogen dominance. It could be your ratios are just imbalanced, not that the levels are too high.
I got estrogen/testosterone pellet therapy for the 1st time back in March, I am 56. For the 1st month, the pellets were fine and my hot flashes and various other menopausal symptoms had diminished. Around the 2nd month, I noticed that I was getting really bad acne and really painful hormonal cystic acne along my jawline. I also started to notice acne on my back, chest and legs which I've never had in my life. I called the doctor and explained it to her but she brushed it off somewhat and told me to just take DIM supplements, which I did but it did not improve the acne, it actually got worse. I went back after about 6 weeks to get updated lab work and found out that my testosterone levels shot up to 223 ng/dl which is so extremely high for someone my age. They somewhat brushed it off again and told me it would wear off and to just use some OTC acne products. I was extremely upset, distressed, depressed and embarrassed to go anywhere because my skin was so inflamed, and I still have acne scars which I am trying to get rid of. I also started having terrible abdominal pains which I did not understand and had no idea from where they were coming. The pain was so bad that I had to go to the emergency room because it scared me so much. I later found out after going to my regular Obgyn that I had fibroids. Now mind you, prior to the pellet therapy, I had no idea I had fibroids because I never had any symptoms or felt anything abnormal in my pelvic or abdominal area. It turns out that the estrogen from the pellet therapy caused major fibroid growth which is from what they feed. I write all of this to say that unfortunately I am finding this video way too late, but ladies do your homework and research before you make any decision to get pellet therapy. I will never get it again; I will probably just stick with the FDA HRT methods.
I appreciate this honest share, I've been hearing its hit and miss, you're either lucky or unlucky in hormone pellet roulette. Some have serious side effects like you're describing and others not so much. It all depends on our individual hormone levels and how we metabolize. It sounds like the initial surge or loading phase makes most feel like superwoman 😉 then it tapers off or crashes long before next injection. It sounds impossible to control, it's not like time released vitamins, lol. I want something I can modify based on my individual needs, affordable effective HRT please & Ty. Topical testosterone sounds safe and controllable. Thank you 4 sharing this info to help other women make informed decisions 😎😘
Thanks for sharing. I developed fibroids and had a uterine fibroid embolization which pushed me into menopause. Now I'm lacking my hormones. I was concerned that the pellet therapy may cause my fibroids to grow back. I think I will research other HRT therapies.
Such valuable information. I was making an appointment for a well known Dr in Mass for pellets as I was at my wits end with severe menopause symptoms. My gyn was against HRT. Thank God I found your videos, podcast . HRT has changed my life! Thank you for being such a great advocate!
I get that it can go wrong with the wrong doctor. I’ve had testosterone pellets for 2 years now and I love them. I have a NP giving them to me and she started of with low dose Pellet and we went from there. She also did a lot of labs beforehand and asked a lot of questions on my symptoms and what I was feeling. Best of luck!!
@@aprilepp74 has it helped with weight loss.. hair growth, mental clarity? These are all symptoms I need help with and my NP says thus us likely the key, but I am scared to lose head hair or grow more facial hair, lol, I already sorta have a beard 😅
@@crystallawmaster6477 the estradiol cream has helped me with motivation better hair ( I had extremely dry brittle hair from losing the estradiol) and so on. I’d recommend finding a Naturopath or Nurse Practitioner and have her get your labs done to find out what you need. Thyroid is a major hair loss cause as well.
I wish I had a doctor like you in San Antonio because I am at the end of my rope dealing with the hormonal issues that come with PCOS. I just want to feel normal!
I am in SA too and had the pellets done at four seasons . 10 weeks in and the increased energy and sex drive are not worth the greasy thin hair, hearburn and slow digestion. I'm also not Convinced there are no long term issues. I will stick with healthy foods , exercise. Accupunture and tudca supplements ( look up dr berg and tudca). Best of luck
I used testosterone pellets for 1.5 years. I started going every 5 months to get the pellets and at the beginning I felt amazing but like you said, my body start wanting more then I move to 4 months then to 3 months. I started questioning and getting other advice. Last year in July I took my last pellet treatment. It didn’t make me feel good, still having symptoms of tiredness and hot flashes. Decided to stop the pellets and I gained almost 20 lbs without changing my diet. I always being super healthy and also workout out 5-6 times a week. My symptoms start getting worst. Went to 2 different doctors. And finally found out the the pellets were the cause of the weight gain and other symptoms. Now I’m Trying to balance my hormones with my new doctor. Thanks for this video!
I know this a way late comment, but just stumbling upon this video. Some women respond terribly to testosterone pellets. I’ve been on testosterone pellets for 2 years straight. First six months I felt amazing, but after that I started noticing my hair thinning at my temples, then all my hair started to thin. Plus, I have a lot of chin hair growing now which I have never dealt with before taking T. My estrogen is sky high now at 200 which was never my norm before T. I am thinking that the testosterone is now converting into estrogen in my system. All the while my naturopath/hormone specialist is telling me my hormone numbers are perfect and to keep my testosterone levels at 150 which I think is far too high for me. Now I am going to go back to my obgyn to see if she can help me sort out this mess. Sharing my experience so other women don’t have to go through what I am going through.
You mention the ladies who get the pellets and end up with extra high testosterone.... but mine has never gone up over 140. And I feel great.... what are your thoughts on pellets when they seem to keep us in a good range......
Thank you for this video. I’m 49 and know that menapause is right around the corner for me so I’ve begun my research into all things menapause. The little I’ve learned so far is that pellets aren’t necessarily a good idea. I did see that recent video of Dominique’s and was surprised by it. Thank you for your explanation.
I am so confused with what to do. I am on my 3rd session of pellets. I think I am done. I feel like all the side effects are out weighing sweating to death while sleeping. It all just feels overwhelming to try and understand and what to do. :(
Are you feeling any negative effects? Did you discontinue using the pellets? It seems to me that a lot of people who have had bad reactions may have been doses wrong. I’m two weeks in and hoping all goes well. Night sweats haven’t stopped yet, but I’m hopeful.
@@kingsqueen1 I was feeling very depressed and ready to snap at just random times. I just got off of them. The main reason I got off of them was because of night sweats. I figure I could deal with that through my course of menopause instead of adding more side effects. I’m still research other treatment options.
Testosterone pellets RUINED my life. I suffered from hair loss prior to starting, and my doctor told me the pellets would actually help my hair. Now, a year and a half in, I am almost completely bald as a 36 year old woman. It has been devastating. My doctor maintains the pellets did not cause the hair loss and continues prescribing these to other women. I did feel “good” for a while, but I promise you that NOTHING is worth not only being bald, but your doctor gas lighting about it.
@@heatherhirschMD Thank you so much for your comment and for making this video. We need more compassionate doctors like you in our corner! Thank you thank you thank you! :)
I know this is a couple of years old but not much has changed unfortunately as women's health goes at a snails pace in the US if at all. I have trouble with blanket statements that only this way or that way works for all women. I've been doing HRT for over 20 years and have found patches and topical estrogen to be the worst most fluctuating and unreliable method of receiving hormones. From what I'm seeing many women don't do well on pellets because they are overdosed with testosterone. The women that seem to do them successfully for many years are dosed properly. Each woman is different. And as we age our skin also changes as does our ability to absorb topical creams. Every method of HRT in my experience has major fluctuations and side effects. If one can get 'addicted' to testosterone pellets why can't she become addicted to topical cream?
I’m extremely depressed and having anxiety. I can’t take this anymore. I’m not living, I’m just here. It doesn’t matter how much it is, or who we go see, it’s lining somebody’s pockets. Sadly. I took the pellets 3 months ago and I see now it’s not for me. They have now started going away. And I’m back at square 1. I didn’t like the pellets because the first 2 weeks was hell. I had bad anxiety. I then started feeling myself again but, it didn’t last long. Ugh. I need something bad. I’m so lost and confused. I don’t know who to turn to.
I’m so sorry to hear that. Check menopause.org and Search under find a provider and of course I have tons of resources in my description under the videos. Praying for you
I thought I was the only one who had these symptoms. 3 years later I still experienced the same symptoms. The doctor told me the pallet would've be great for me since I'm on antidepressants for sleeping. Getting the pallet was the worse idea I never made in my life. I used to sleep some days without sleeping pills. Now I have to relying on sleeping everyday.
@@madji6911 I’m so sorry to hear this!! I’m gonna give pellets one last try.. I went to an actual BiOte place. I was going to a generic place to get pellets. Come to find out the first time you get pellets it can take a bit to level out and they gave me way too much estrogen..
I'm 43 y/o w/ a hysterectomy and I still have ovaries. I'm premenopausal according to labs. My testosterone was at 5. I'm on my first round of pellets. Testosterone only due to low libido. I was desperate! My provider recommended an OB/GYN that did pellets and had many happy pts. Without much research ( this is not like me, but like I said I was desperate!) I got the pellets. What threw me off was that she said that this would help me lose weight. Not that I "might" experience these benefits, but that I "will". So far, I have acne, and have gained almost 10lbs in a month! It might be water weight, but diuretics aren't working. One positive is that I have that increase in energy that you mentioned. These pellets will still be active for another 3 mos. I'm hoping to see more positives, but as of now I wish I never got them, and don't plan on another round after watching this.
Hi Dr Heather, just to clarify what levels should our Testosterone be at? So fuzzy over here trying to get my hormones balanced 🙃 thanks for your help & your videos are extremely helpful!
Every person’s body is different. I’m so sick of traditional medicine & doctors who don’t listen. Did my own research & talked to other men & women to find a doctor who is a hormone specialist. He is about hormone optimization & every body is different. More & more I find traditional medicine falls short especially since it’s all about insurance, the pharmaceutical companies, and money.
It seems insane to put a pellet in a female without first finding her optimum levels first via a cream or injections. The poor woman may be stuck with very high levels for as long as the pellet lasts! Then again, as you state, why use them at all when a woman can regulate and tweak her own optimal levels via cream or injections.
“In the name of feeling better” desperately seeking to feel better, feeling energized, and feeling blah, I proceeded with testosterone pellets. I got them inserted in May 2024 and the doctor said I would feel so energized as if I was 22 years old all over again. I’m 48 years old. The only change I feel different is that I’m calmer. No libido increase, no energy either. We are all different, bodies are different and we react differently to certain treatments. Thank you Dr. for your insight.
Can’t women take testosterone at a very low low dose intra muscular? I know someone that takes injection once a week so she doesn’t have fluctuating testosterone. Very low dose and it works for her. I’m looking into that as well!
I started HRT biote, about two months ago. Low dose estradiol, and don’t know how much, but the testosterone looked very large,(much longer), than the estradiol. I was very sore for, what seemed to be forever, and now I’m having a literal pain in my butt! Certain muscle movements, like getting in the car(right cheek), sends a pain all around the injection site. Getting up, or bending over, also the stabbing pain. Symptoms went away,( hot flashes, night sweats, but still nothing on the sex drive part). Kinda hard to feel frisky when there’s a stabbing pain in your bottom. Dr tried talking me into putting it in the other cheek or my flank. I told him, no way would I do this again! I’m wondering if I now should find another doctor.
I am getting my pellets at the end of this month. Thanks for the information but my regular gynecologist offers nothing for peri menopause. At least it is an option.
I am on testosterone therapy and something immediately struck me as something I didn’t want to do/dangerous when the doctor offered pellet therapy. I don’t mind the dissolvable testosterone and easier to adjust dosage, etc. Trust your gut, ladies!
I’ve gained 30 lbs. while on testosterone pellets and had 2 ER visits for hypertension that started in conjunction with the pellets. Yes I have more energy but at what price. I’m considering getting off the pellets.
I just did my consult today for the pellets! Glad I’m doing my research! I saw one video where the comments of a wife about her husband taking the pellets and was admitted into the hospital with an abscess that the doctors can find the etiology
I’m 43. Been on bio identical HRT testosterone and estrogen pellets for a year or more now. My first pellet I felt amazing and slowly but surely I don’t feel amazing anymore. I have cystic acne everywhere. I’m loosing my hair. My vaginal dryness is out of this world. No libido. They said I should come back in sooner. I have my blood test scheduled for the end of August. I’m not sure I want to go sooner. Feels like I would get more acne. More bad effects. I also don’t want to feel miserable and suicidal off of them. Not really sure what to do.
This was posted two years ago. If the doctor/practitioner checks your levels first to calculate a starting dosage size and then follows up with another hormone panel to track your levels, getting too much shouldn't be an issue. It's not giving me acne, a low voice, or excessive hair growth. Although, I wouldn't mind growing the eyebrows back that fell out when menopause started. :( Before HRT by pellets, I had a flat affect, no energy, motivation, or desire to do anything. Life was pointless and nothing I did mattered. That has all changed. I got my joy back and lost the hot flashes!
Thank you for this video! I had already scheduled an appointment for pellet insertion, but was extremely uneasy about it despite my OB/GYN telling me how safe it was and that she uses pellets on herself. I called my doctor and cancelled the appointment for pellets and requested she prescribe creams or patches instead. I feel like I dodged a bullet :)
Would you use testosterone for osteoporosis? I've read that testosterone plays a role in maintaining bone! I was diagnosed at 42, and this is my main health concern. Are the hormone doses used for symptoms still effective in preserving (or even raising) BMD?
I have been on Biote hormone pellets for almost a year. I had a complete hysterectomy a year and a half ago (uterus, ovaries, tubes, cervix). I originally started with estrogen, progesterone & testosterone torches to keep me from going through menopause. I switched to pellets for convenience. I was prescribed progesterone pills, but couldn’t taker them because it immediately caused depression and lethargy. Despite a very clean diet and 5 days of strength/cardio training per week ( I’m a certified health coach to boot), I’ve gained a ton of weight, have terrible indigestion, crazy body hair, and my voice has begun to lower and be scratchy. My doctor, whom I love, doesn’t seem to be concerned, but I am. I want to stop the pellets and get my body back, but I’m nervous about menopause symptoms. Can I just not get my next injection or should I wean off by lowering my dose?
so now i’m more confused than EVER. finally started bhrt pellets at the age of 58 last week. it was $2700 for 6 months. estrogen/progesterone/testosterone biote brand, so 2 sets of shots. starting to think i am being duped. this was at a wellness place with an obgyn. i have an appointment with my regular obgyn in 2 weeks. going to keep it to hear what she has to say. would love to hear what anyone else has to say.
I just got mine. This was before I did any research (desperate). I had been feeling chronic fatigue, brain fog and felt like I was fading away. After my labs came in it showed I had low level thyroid. So I have been placed on thyroid med and on vitamin D. And got the testosterone pellet. I will be monitoring closely for negative side effects.
I am a 59 yo female who just started Pellet treatment on July 13, 23. I had my labs drawn on August 4, 23. I was Horrified when I saw my T results....TESTOSTERONE, TOTAL, MS 294 H- Reference Range: 2-45 ng/dL & TESTOSTERONE, FREE 32.7 H Reference Range: 0.1-6.4 pg/mL.FSH 57.8, PROGESTERONE
I tried pellets with 2 different doctors. Second one was actually a GYN also. I did not like how they took me up so high, then dropped me down so quickly. Expensive and also a hassle to go into the office for a mini surgery/procedure. I have tried T troches, cream and gel. ALL, made my face extremely oily, acne with the gel & cream, facial hair like crazy and more hair all over even on my elbows! I can’t take it so I have weened off. Now I need help with libido.
My wife is 50 and just did some type of testosterone pellet in April ( I swear the doctor said vegetable testosterone?) she didn't feel any difference and I didn't see anything that seemed different? How does she go about finding a good doctor for hormone replacement?
I'm 39 recently have a blood test. Results: Estriol 86, progesterone 1.2, testosterone 35. I understand progesterone level is low, which I'll be on cream soon. What I don't get is why did they say my testosterone level is low also? I thought level 35 was in a normal range. The side effects don't bother me. I only do for healthy glow skin purpose.
I got pellet injection therapy in January 2022 It helped my mild hot flashes but I loss 50% of h air. I rather have my hair back. My testerone level went up to 140. It started out at O. They can not figure out how to stop the shedding not only am I having hair lost but now have trouble getting aroused. Does anyone have the answer. Please help.
My T was up to 600 at one point. After 3 rounds of pellets I quit. I was on it for post-covid vax injury inflammation causing many health problems. I have permanent voice change and can no longer sing. My voice cracks.
Pellets for 1 1/2 yrs-Initially felt fantastic and lost 20 lbs. The thrill is gone. Like others here I eat clean, workout consistently and yet gained close to 17 lbs following my last pellets-4 months ago. Not knowing what to do, my physician ordered a diuretic which did not help and thyroid tests (normal). Your suggestions are appreciated 😔 Unfortunately, I agreed to pellets again a month ago. After researching further and intuitively realizing the pellets are no longer for me, all I want is them out of me. I’ve read cardio will help burn through them. I want my body back and will work hard to release all this excess weight. So very upsetting.
@@danis.5040 I worked for a dr that would do it for staff for free. I did it 3 times and I regret it. My last one was placed in May. I got so bloated I felt like a sausage stuffed in a case. Now my hair is falling out. I can't wait for it to be out of my system. There's a reason why our bodies don't make these high levels of testosterone. Awful. And she was making so much money doing it. Including all the supplements, and other prescriptions to counter act all the side effects. No thanks. It's a big racket as far as I'm concerned.
I was prescribed point of use estradiol in the form of Primarine it cost hundreds of dollars then I went to a compounding pharmacy they made me point of use estradiol and it cost me $35 the estradiol from the compounding pharmacy is excellent it works perfectly for me I don't use pellets, but I will tell you don't be afraid of the compounding pharmacy
