Spent an hour trying to get my microwave off the wall and looked at 6 different videos before finding this one. It was the safety latch and no other video mentioned it. Great job!👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks a million! I watched four videos that didn’t address my problem before I found yours. Had my microwave removed 90 seconds after you explained it. 👍
Thank you! This must be what is stopping the old microwave in my house from coming off. I could not figure it out and watch several other videos and none mentioned anything like this. Nice one!
Thank you so much for this video. We were struggling for 20 minutes trying to get this darn microwave off the wall and didn't notice the magical release latch! THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for this video! My husband and son were stuck and could not figure out why it would not come off the wall. Once again Mom looks on RU-vid...lol
I like doing things on my own. I just could not get that microwave to release; i finally looked on RU-vid and found you. No one at all mentioned the release in the front vent. Success!!!. Thank You So Much for the Info.
Thank you so much, we went crazy for 3 hours and put everything back, then found this video................our old microwave was the same model in black
Holy toldedo. I put our microwave in 7 years ago. Bought the whole set used. I installed the bracket on the wall, set the microwave in the bracket and heard it click in. I thought, "how cool" Well that was easy! Fast forward to yesterday. The handle fell off the stove and the glass fell out and shattered. Nice. Decided we'd go ahead and upgrade. Remembering how this installed I kept seeing videos about bolts....I'm like, "there are no bolts holding that thing on....what in the world are they talking about?" Finally came across this video and then realized that my microwave has been hanging off the safety latch for the last 7 years!!! Thankfully the way it is designed it wouldn't have fallen off. They should have designed these this way with two of these catches and to heck with bolts. Obviously this holds quite well. The fact that the weight is on the bracket bottom anyway and the safety latch is held in place by gravity. I mean, why not? Beats drilling holes in your cabinets. Judging by this video, it's obviously an art.
If you have a Fridgeaire Professional Series from around 2007, there are two screws on either side of the unit, behind the vent. You will need to unscrew both of them and pull them toward you to disengage both safety latches. There is a safety latch on both sides. I could not find a video that explained this particular unit, but this video mentioned the possibility of unscrewing something which tipped me off to that possibility. So thank you for posting this video! I hope this comment can help someone else. I did end up taking apart about half of the microwave just to figure this out, but this video ultimately saved me from just disassembling the entire thing bolt by bolt
Thanks so much! After about 5 minutes of it not wanting to swing down, I realized there had to be something I was overlooking. I took a quick bathroom break and, while on the thinking throne, I watched your video. You saved the day! THANK YOU!
YOU LITERALLY SAVED 200$ OR MORE.....I HAD THE SIMILAR KENNMORE DID NOT COME OUT...I ALMOST GOT ANXIOUS AND BROKE THE DRY WALL..MM🙂 THANKS TO YOU , GREAT AMERICAN.
We fooled with it for about an hour before I spent another hour looking for RU-vid gospel. I finally found it with this video. NOBODY ELSE MENTIONED THIS PROBLEM
Thanks a million for this! I effed around for 90 minutes before I decided to google the problem. Once we released the safety catch, the old microwave came right down. The new microwave doesn't have that feature.
Super video! Was going a bit daffy trying to figure out why my mother-in-laws old microwave would not come off the wall! Thanks so much for your video!
Thank you so much! None of the other videos I watched said there were locks on the microwave. They all made it look so easy. Mine had 2 locking rod/bolts under the vent cover. I beating the hell out of the microwave because I thought it was stuck between the cabinets. Luckily I didn't damage the cabinets too badly. I was just starting to take the cabinets off the walls and decided to take one more run at finding another video. I sure am glad I found your video.
thankyouThankYouTHANKYOU!!! ♥ This was the trick that took our old microwave off our wall above our stove after spending half an hour pushing and pulling to get it off the mounting bracket. Who knew there was a safety latch? Our new microwave doesn't have one... probably because of the millions of headaches it caused. XD
If only me and my dad saw this an hour ago!!! Thank you so much for the video we were about to rip ours off the wall.. just a FYI for others our safety mechanism was two bolts one on each side behind the grill!
Thank you so much! The appliance people that came out didn’t even know how to get it out. Me and my husband got it out in 5 minutes. Thanks again! These videos are needed!!
Thanks so much - we had a Goldstar microwave from 2002 ; all the videos shows how "easy" it is - nope ; your information was what got it done - Thanks !!!!
Thank you so much for your excellent instructions and descriptions. It was very helpful, and if I may return the favor, please feel free to send me your PayPal account name, and I will send you a few dollars to compensate for your time and efforts to create this great video. If I may also share with your viewers, it is a lot easier to use a stepping stool with a few thick phone books under the microwave oven between the oven range and the microwave oven. This will allow removing the top bolts from the microwave oven safely, and then when the weight of the microwave oven is resting on the stepping stool, you can ask a second person to unlatch the safety latch and remove the stool and the phone books quickly while you are cradling the oven in your arms safely. Note: Allow the oven to fall on your arms at least at 45 degrees or more, so it can pop-out of the supporting latches in the back. Hope this is helpful to you all. I hope your viewers understand that you have saved them a great deal of frustration and may the Lord bless you and your family.
Amazing information that is missing from far too many over-the-range microwave video tutorial videos. Most do not mention the safety release needed. I do appreciate the manufacturer's extra safety in the design though.
THANK YOU!!! After reading through the comments, I found yours and remembered seeing two large screws in the front of my FRIDGDAIRE. After trying to get it off the wall for two hours because the repair man couldnt figure it out, I read this and two minutes later it was off. My son was ready to kill me and I was ready to ripoff the drywall. I wish I would have read this first.TY TY TY
Over the counter Frigidaire microwaves has two levers in the back, against the wall, in the corners, by the back mounting plate, that you have to pry down about a half an inch to release the safety hooks.
Thank you. I couldn’t figure out why my microwave did not come off, however I had a different bracket than what you showed but it was at the top it required me to take these 12 inch bolts out that were under that top grill. Thanks again.
Well wish I had found this video before all the others as I had that same mounting bracket for our 19 year kenmore over the range microwave with that safety latch. We just couldn't figure out what it was catching on. we ended up bending over those two lips and then lifted it up and out but would have saved the hassle of trying to figure out what in the heck it was catching on...
I’ve been messing with mine for an hour and still can’t find the release. It’s an old kenmore unit. It definitely has this safety latch but I cannot find it
