Thank you! I have watched at least six others of help videos and only you explained the cutting away the tile and folding that goofy under cabinet template so it goes inside of the undercabinet box. Wow. Saved me lots of money from Lowes install. And moving out the range is also a great idea so we don't drop it on the range and have to get a new range. The best of the best.

Glad my video was able to help out! Also, moving the range out of the way isn't so much about worrying about damaging the oven (though it is a positive side effect) but not having it there in the way makes the entire microwave removal and install so much easier.

Good video, I wonder since I noticed you have a gas range, you really should have it vented to the exterior. An electric range is more suited for a recirculating vent. Just my opinion.

It appears that whoever installed the over the range microwave for the former owner, did not follow electrical code. My electrician found it plugged into a loose female connector that was spliced on to Romex. Now there is a proper outlet box and dedicated outlet in the soffit above the wall. We had to cut an access hole in the soffit to find the dangerous wiring in the first place. Now I have roughly a 6 inch by 12 inch access panel in the soffit. It will be fun removing the top screws whenever I have to replace the microwave. I told my wife that we would be better off leaving the old microwave in place after disconnecting it from the power outlet, and using it to store plates instead. Then just buy a countertop microwave instead of all the hassle of removing the old one. All of our kitchen cabinets are the originals from the build in 1957, and are all built into the walls, not freestanding cabinets that were added after construction. That is what a cabinetmaker in the family explained to me.

@ToolCraze
@ToolCraze 6 лет назад
You can't see what's beneath the microwave unless you bend down and go out of your way to take a look, so no, I didn't leave anything out. Last time I checked, this was a how to install a microwave tutorial not a tiling tutorial. Job accomplished XP But if you go through the steps and find yourself bothered by this miniscule Gap, a gap so small that most people would not be offended by and be perfectly okay with, especially since you can't see it unless you try hard. Hey by all means, grout it, caulk it, whatever floats your boat. It's your house, your project and you can do it the way you want to do it. Thanks for watching.

My over the stove microwave just quit working on me. It won't heat anything up. It's 10 years old so figuring it's better to buy a new one than to try and have it repaired. Very good and informative video. The question I have is about the tracks and all the drilling of holes. Shouldn't I be able to use the same holes and tracks the old microwave used? I was thinking it was an easy task but with all the measuring and drilling that has me thinking I should probably hire someone.
@ToolCraze
@ToolCraze 5 лет назад
I've installed several microwaves even on the same location and each one has different brackets with holes in different places. But the good news is that looking at where the previous holes were will help in locating the studs. You don't even need to measure, unless you have a backsplash. If you follow all the steps in this video, you'll do fine.

Hi. I just had mine installed and for some reason it seems to be too high. The instructions were followed but it's still bothering me. So my question is how many inches should it be from the gas stove to microwave. I know floor to cabinet is minimum 66". Thanks.
@ToolCraze
@ToolCraze 7 лет назад
As long as your over the minimum you're good. If it is much higher than the minimum it isn't necessarily a problem unless you physically can't reach it or it just looks weird. In either case you will need to lower the cabinet if possible or replace the cabinet with a taller cabinet so the bottom of the cabinet is lower but only as long as you don't go less than the minimum height requirement.

Rather than cut the tile, you can also use a spacer board behind the lower bracket. There are other videos that show this.
@ToolCraze
@ToolCraze 2 года назад
There are many ways of doing things, your way is one option that works and by all means go for it if that is what you feel works best for your case. Although putting a spacer behind the bracket is counter intuitive, it would be better if you fill the untiled wall with a material like thin panel board or similar so the back wall is flush with the tile however cutting the tile works best for someone who already owns a grinder and a diamond wheel although diamond wheels are pretty cheap if one does not have one and would be a great cost and time effective way to do it and thus you don't have to worry about making the back wall flush with the tile. Hope that helps.

Very well done Javier; thank you for posting this! Definitely one of the very best "how-to" videos I've ever seen. Unfortunately, in my case, I have just a vent hood with a fan/light currently. I'm guessing that I won't be able to just use the existing power circuit since a microwave must need a much larger power draw than the existing hood. (just seems logical to me) Would I need to hire an electrician to run a new line or is that something that the average guy could possibly do themselves? Apologies if you've answered this before; I haven't gone through all the comments.
@ToolCraze
@ToolCraze 6 лет назад
Put it this way, you'd be using the same circuit to power a microwave whether it was an over the range Microwave or whether a counter top model. Most first time over the range Microwave installs are replacing the built in vent Hood. You bring up a good point about putting too much stress on the same circuit but if you have no issues running a countertop microwave then it should be fine using an over the range model. Unless you see that the power draw is for that circuit is too much from a countertop model and the circuit breaker trips often then that's when you would need to how an electrician to install a new circuit but most cases this isn't needed as the current circuit in your kitchen should be plenty.

Seriously, how many different brands of drill drivers does this guy have? The last two videos I saw he used a Fein, Rigid, Milwaukee, Dewalt and something else I can't remember. Product placement perhaps? Anyway, great video on the topic as usual.
@ToolCraze
@ToolCraze 6 лет назад
Hmmm I purposely chose different brands so I wouldn't get comments saying something lame like product placement or sponsored. I mean seriously, who would sponsor a video with a product placement and be ok with me placing the competitions tools in the same video? Doesn't make sense, actually would be asinine to come to that conclusion that it would be a product placement with so many different brands in the same video. My question to you is what does it matter in the end what tools I used? I could've used all hf tools and still got the job done just as good. But then I'd get stupid, oh this has got to be a sponsored or product placement video since all the tools are the same, blah blah blah. So either way whether you put one brand or several brands in a video you still get retarded comments about "product placement" silliness. Come on now! Also does the brands I used change or takeaway the valuable information from this how to video? Did you learn any less? It doesn't. It's plain stupid to even consider the thought of sponsored placement really. Poor Jay from Jay's custom creations channel had to spray paint all of his tools black because of lame sponsored comments like yours.

I just took out my original Wall Oven and the connected Microwave (all one unit), it was all connected to a 240v junction box stuffed into a cut-out hole on the back drywall with one metal hose. I am installing a new GE wall oven and a separate GE Microwave above the oven (two separate components). Obviously, the oven will get a metal hose to the 240v, but this particular wall Microwave has a regular 120v wall plug. I will need to wire up an outlet. Can I tap into the 240v junction box for 120v and run 12-2 romex to just one side of the 240v circuit (120v) and run that to the newly purchased outlet (receptacle) so I can plug the new microwave in? In other words, the old units were sharing the 220v junction box (old Oven was 220 and old Microwave was 120). It's just that the old unit was an all-in-one combo where the new units are separately purchased and don't share the same wiring. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!!

This is old so I understand if you don't see this but... our microwave like this slowly lost features. Started with the over range light, then the clock, now nothing works. Sometimes a light flashes on the display when I open and close it. The outlets are good and breaker isn't tripped. Is there any troubleshooting that can be done or am I stuck with having to contact my property's maintenance?

I just installed my microwave, I was repacking one that was already there.. I had the same problem with the back splash- I was looking to confirm how to handle it- I did not want to get into a messy cut of less than an inch, what I did as an alternative- I went and bought two pieces of 3ft x 4” pieces of good hard wood- it was 3/8 inch thick same as the marble- I put one across the bottom and one across the top of the open area and attached the bracket to the wood- came out like a dream- only negative you might find is it extends the microwave out an extra 3/8 inch but sure saved me a messy cut with a tool that I do not own at this time... thanks for sharing.

I'm glad you mentioned this because I'm about to do the same thing because I didn't want to get into cutting the tile on the backsplash because it's very tiny glass tiles and I didn't wanto hack it up and have it look like hell to trim off a 1/2 inch.

Brilliant! I would do the same, but I'm married 😣 (to a perfectionist) 😖

Rather than cutting the tile why not just install a sheet of wood as thick as the tile to make the wall even behind the microwave? Easier

If I bought the exact same microwave will I have to do all the measuring to reinstall?
@ToolCraze

No but only if the bracket and microwave screw holes are all the same and same place

Why can i not use the same mounting bracket? Out of curiousity?

No two are alike so it won't work on the new microwave unless it's the same exact model. Trust me I know from experience. I've replace several microwaves in the same kitchen and the new brackets are never the same. Wish they would be as it means I wouldn't have to install from scratch.

Do I have to replace the mounting bracket? The brackets look identical
