I always have the utmost respect for those who have had high office like you (and Dr Ashendon in the UK who was a Bishop and the late Queen's private Chaplain) Stepping down to step right up, an infinitesimal step up. You are so blessed and in turn a blessing for all of us. (I have been asked to leave my promised lifelong home, for becoming Catholic, this out of the blue, and without any overt dispute, so I will lose everything , as l could never have imagined both my conversion and my close family member's extreme radicalisation.) Please talk more about the peace that being a Catholic brings and why the price is always worth it. Thank you and God Bless.

@@EPH-re2xj No, and I pray for you, that you someday break your mind out of that silly little Dispensationalist circle, think outside of your little box. And for the benefit of anyone reading this, this individual thinks he has a gotcha thing by referring to keeping the commandments. So apparently he thinks he has the right to worship other gods; the right to lie; to steal; to murder: to covet, etc. Because he is "saved", he can do whatever he wants, sin away, and will be welcomed into heaven. That is the result of the Protestant Gospel, where the very words of Christ are confined as just for the Jews; he believes in a forensic gospel, just a legal pardon; whereas the Catholic Church believes Jesus came to save us FROM our sins, and His grace will empower us to walk holy.

I know you are happy to receive comments, they help the algorithms and get you more viewers. I'm happy to help out with that. This was a good video. Staying, leaving, or joining a Church should be for the right reasons. It shouldn't be for secondary reasons, like the youth group, the music, the small groups, the location, the size, the particular pastor, friends, and on and on. It should be for proper preaching/teaching/and understanding of God's Word and the correct understanding and administration of the Sacraments. Sadly, catering to the desires of the people and culture is what is growing Churches these days. I suspect their growth is largely from stealing members from other churches. I've listened to their sermons. I've attended their services. I've had conversations with a few of their pastors. Their theology is paper thin. They don't understand the sacraments and therefore don't have the Sacraments. They deny the people the grace given through the Sacraments. I've come to realize that you are in agreement with me when you point out that Pope Francis and the current princes of the Catholic Church can't change Church doctrine/dogma. God's truth is unchanging. It can be discovered or better understood, but it doesn't change. Sin remains sin. Salvation is received the way it always has been. We don't agree on some doctrinal things and on some practical things. That is what we should discuss with gentleness and respect. If our differences are on peripheral issues, then we can agree to disagree. Your videos are typically defenses of the Catholic faith. What if you did a video on what the Catholic Church teaches is essential for salvation. My reading of the Catechism of the Catholic Church has not clearly defined it for me. I would bet that not many in the pews could verbalize it. Raised and very active as a Catholic into my middle 20's, I have a strong suspicion of what the Catholic Church teaches is required for salvation, but I am not certain. Such a video would be good. It would get lots of comments and improve you exposure on RU-vid. It would be educational possibly to Catholics as well as non-Catholics.

Individual people can disagree and live in peace. That's not really the primary issue, IMO. The issue is do You Personally (TM) need to be part of the Catholic Church to achieve salvation? The answer, if you understand enough, could a be resounding yes. Yes, that Baptist who loves Jesus and knows nothing of the Church may well not, although they will be saved through her. However, I am sure that if CS Lewis was saved, it involved a post death purgation of whatever was holding him back from being received properly into the Catholic Church. If I left the Catholic Church, I know I would lose even a chance at salvation. Why is that? It's not my human institution is better than yours. The Catholic Church teaches truth, regardless and in spite of fallen men. God is truth. If I want to love God and live with Him forever, I cannot accept anything less but the truth as I know it. I hope that ramble helped a bit about why there is no salvation outside the Church and for some people no salvation specifically outside of their formal participation in the Catholic Church. If not discard it. :)

Remember them? Tertullian, Roman church father pleads that the Early Christians would be better included and not burned just for the crime of believing on their Christ. The catholic Church has always prevailed through out history. I find with protestants is that they believe in the holy spirit but when it comes to communion they reject it believing it to be a symbol. They reject statues in churches but during Christmas some put statues in their church of Jesus's, Mary and Joseph. Protestants are divided and they too make mistakes. Good commentary totally agree.

Prevailing in history doesn't make something true. The Muslims prevailed in the 7-10th centuries, does that make Islam true? And now the Vatican and Pope have hosted pagan rituals (Muslim, Buddhist etc) so that can't be the work of the Holy Spirit and yet the "Vicar of Christ" did it. Something doesn't add up. The Orthodox Christian position checks out logically and also historically and bionically.

No matter what a certain priest? does, no matter what scandals hit the church, despite whatever corruption or abuse of power might exist, and despite whatever mistakes the Church has made throughout history, to whom shall we go? for here is the body and blood of Christ given for a sinner as miserable as I. Of all the twelve Apostles, Jesus chose Judas as well to preach the Gospel, and by this we have a spiritual comprehension that not all who minister come from holiness nor may prevail in holiness. No divine promise of a perfect body of church leaders was ever made. From Peter’s thrice denial and taking up the sword, to Paul’s collaboration in murder of the first martyr…all are demonstrative of the fact that in every saint there is a past sinner, and in every sinner the potential for a future saint.....

There is no other place to go. I have watched many services on line and listened to numerous pastors preach. I admit, the mega churches out there put on a great show and present up lifting messages, but they are not feeding the sheep. Encouraging words are necessary, but not all of the time. You clearly see in scripture Jesus and Paul in his epistles calling people to conversion. People are called to initial conversion and continued conversion. This can’t be denied. Others such as John MacArthur, James White and David Jeremiah also come up short. They find themselves in the dilemma of ignoring the early church, or worse yet, redefining the early church as to try and prove that the reformation was right and good.

@Harbinger290 5 месяцев назад
I can see how so many are confused but there’s no need to be. If we simply set aside all religions, pastors and teachers and look at the original: teacher, preacher and minister his message is very simple. Do you know or have you considered what Paul was sent to do? We were given his ministry as a pattern to follow. It’s all laid out very clearly in scripture and if studied all confusion is removed. 1 Timothy 2:7 (KJV) Whereunto I am ordained a *preacher, and an *apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, [and] lie not;) a *teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. 2 Timothy 1:11 (KJV) Whereunto I am appointed a *preacher, and an *apostle, and a *teacher of the Gentiles. In today's world, it is increasingly crucial for us to return to the foundation and grasp the fundamentals. By following Christ's instructions, the haze of confusion will undoubtedly dissipate, enlightening all those who strive to seek Him. Have you considered what Paul did to free homosexuals from their bondage?? This may help find clarity as you look into the direction the world is following!

@@Harbinger290 Hey sorry I haven't gotten back to you yet. But this comment gives me the opportunity to ask you a question, have you considered that the true message of Christ, the true message of Salvation, perhaps ought to have been clearly taught and proclaimed consistently down through the past 2000 years? The idea that God hid away His plan of Salvation in a Book, that wasn't clear until a man came along and made distinctions between Paul vs. Peter; Jesus vs. Paul; message to Jews vs. Gentiles? The message is simple and clear to you, because you accept the human interpretation of John Nelson Darby, later reinforced by the notes in the Scofield Reference Bible. Historically, there is no record of anyone teaching such interpretation, prior to the 1800s. Thus this view, is no more valid nor invalid than that of John Calvin, or Martin Lutheran, or Jonathan Edwards. All in this list are examples that go back no further than the 16th century. Yet the Catholic Church has been here 2000 years teaching the same truth. Respectfully, I simply cannot believe that the truth was somehow lost or hidden away all that time. No where does Christ teach us that we are wait until a collection of books are collected and put together, in which we all have to check and see the truth. The New Testament books were not collected, codified as a complete book until 382 AD. And the individuals who first established those 27 books were Pope Damasus and the Bishops of the Catholic Church. The Protestant form of Christianity consists of over 35,000 different churches, groups and denominations. who all teach different doctrines about everything. And such types of doctrines have only been around for 500 years. Faith Alone, for example, the foundation of the Reformation theology, well, the words "faith" and "alone", only appear next to each other one place in the entire New Testament, and in that place the word "faith" is preceded by the words "not by". I mean if whst you believe is based on Bible only, then you need to show actual verses that somehow Paul's teachings, his revelation, is somehow utterly different from the rest of the New Testament, and Paul somehow has an utterly different gospel from that of Peter, James, or Jude, etc. That Jesus actually taught all the things in the 4 Gospels that have no relevance to us. @@catholicskeptic You raised multiple points, but I would like to focus on two specific points: the connection between faith alone and the gospel preached by Paul. I would appreciate hearing your thoughts on three specific Bible verses mentioned below. Hopefully, this will help you better understand my position and offer me some insight into yours. Please review: Paul emphasizes that FAITH justifies the heathen (or gentiles): Galatians 3:8 (KJV) - "And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through FAITH, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, 'In thee shall all nations be blessed.'" Paul clarifies that the gospel he received did not come from any other men, including the twelve apostles: Galatians 1:11-12 (KJV) - "But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ." Based on these verses and Paul's gospel outlined in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, do you perceive any requirements other than FAITH for salvation? Furthermore, I would like to include Ephesians 1:13, which links these previous two verses together: Ephesians 1:13 (KJV) - "In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise." According to Paul, the gospel is the means through which salvation is attained (Rom 1:16). Do you observe any additional requirements, aside from FAITH, that are necessary to receive the sealing of the Holy Spirit and be united with Christ (1 Cor 6:17)? It is essential to bear in mind that any additions to Paul's gospel of salvation are regarded as anathema, as stated in Galatians 1:8-9. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Thank you, and may God bless you!

I want to become Catholic, I am sure for various reasons (right now I am not even baptized). But the church is not making it easy. I live in Portugal but my Portuguese is not nearly sufficient to follow the local equivalent of rcia classes, we have one English mass a week, but the priest seems to vanish into thin air after the service (I'll try again this week). If the process would only take a couple of weeks I'd consider doing the process in my home country (the Netherlands). I am becoming really frustrated and have decided to get baptized first beyond the Catholic Church. I understand certain things take time (I have been doing daily bible/cathecism study and praying the Rosary daily). But I seriously doubt Jesus meant it to be like this.

@micheldevries7975 You are in my prayers, brother. The Catholic Church , unlike Calvinists, believes we have free will, and sadly that truth has affected the Church in its personnel. The younger generations of priests, at least in the USA , tend to be more solid, committed, Traditional Believers, who hold fast to the Faith in doctrine and in practice. As someone stuck in mortal sin, becoming Catholic is the most miserable thing you can do if you’re not ready to let go of the sins of your past. I love Jesus and feel so deeply ashamed of my sins and yet being Catholic has only ever grown my fear of death. The Catholic Church is a place where sin goes to win or die because you will dangle yourself over the gates of hell and be evermore aware of it as you do so. There is a legalistic beauty to it, and also a pain, shame, and fear that comes with it. As a new Catholic and someone who desires God how on earth do I cope with knowing that the God I’m supposed to love intends to place me in eternal hell for sins I wish not to commit but do so by habit and addiction

Oh my! My heart goes out to you. I can only imagine how horrible you must feel. I'm thinking, "there but for the grace of God go I." Because I used to be Roman Catholic. Now I am in an ACNA Anglican parish which still has the liturgy, the traditional hymns, kneeling for the Eucharist, and all of that. But there is a different understanding of a Christian's position with God, assuming the Christian is spiritually regenerated by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit; a true Christian is utterly forgiven of every sin because the propitiatory sacrifice Jesus made on the cross is fully sufficient and the person receives, through faith apart from works, the _gift of saving grace_ by which God justifies and makes righteous the sinner. Let me show you some Scriptures. John 3:14-18 "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that *whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.* For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. *He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed* in the name of the only begotten Son of God." Look also at John 6:28-29,35,39-40. "Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, *This is the work of God, that ye believe* on him whom he hath sent...And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst....And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that *every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day."* Likewise, Paul wrote to the Ephesians (2:8-9), "For by grace are ye *saved through faith;* and that not of yourselves: *it is the gift of God: Not of works,* lest any man should boast." Rom 4:2-8 "For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness.” Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due. And *to the one who does not work but believes in him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted as righteousness,* just as David also speaks of the blessing of the one to whom *God counts righteousness apart from works:* “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven, and whose sins are covered; *blessed is the man against whom the Lord will not count his sin.”* " Rom 8:1-4,14 "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit... For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God." Do you see what Scripture says about what God has done for us? We really are hopelessly lost in sin, but for Christ. As James wrote: "For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it" (James 2:10). In other words, *each and every sin is a mortal sin* which would earn us condemnation from a holy God, were it not for the Way He made for us to be redeemed. That Way is Jesus our Savior. The Father accounted all of our sins to Christ and He bore them on the cross, becoming sin for us. 2Co 5:21 "For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." Jesus promised eternal life to every one who believes in Him. Believe in Him means putting all of your trust in the completed propitiatory sacrifice of Jesus as the full payment for your debt of sin. It's a mistake to trust in our own goodness, our own ability to resist sin (we fail), in our church, or in receiving Sacraments. We need to put all of our faith on Jesus Christ. Romans 4 says that faith is counted to us for righteousness. Rom 4:20-25 "No unbelief made (Abraham) waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, *fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe* in him who raised from the dead *Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification."* It is a divine exchange: The Father accounted our sins to sinless Jesus, so that He could account Jesus' perfect righteousness to any person who accepts this marvelous gift through faith. 2Cor 5:17-21 *"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself* and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, _not counting their trespasses against them,_ and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. *We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.* For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God." You can be reconciled to God today, and have your trespasses "not counted against" you. All it takes is a living faith, a belief that Jesus paid your way in because He loves you. He's offering you a ticket to heaven. You just have to reach out with the hand of faith and believe you receive it.... believe that Jesus died and rose from the tomb _for you, personally,_ and that you are forgiven. Is this "easy believism"? By no means! Removing yourself from the throne of control over your life is hard. Is this a "license to sin"? By no means! The Spirit beckons us constantly to live in a sanctified manner. The love of God spurs us always to do better, in gratitude for His incredible gift and in a desire to be obedient. But when we fall (as we so often do), we do not need to feel condemned. We can go with confidence in prayer before the throne of grace and find mercy and help whenever we need it (Heb. 4:16). Our Redeemer, Christ, is constantly interceding for us at the right hand of the Father. Heb 10:21-23 "and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful." Let me assure you, God loves you and He hears your every prayer. He will not fail you. He wants you to walk in His peace and love, not in condemnation. I leave you with one final Scripture: Php 4:6-7 "do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." May you experience the true peace and joy of the Holy Spirit. Ask God to fill you with His Spirit today; He will do it! 😊

I can’t help but be concerned when I see these kinds of comments. What is the requirement for salvation that Paul preached? Paul claimed there are two types of wisdom: worldly and Godly. One leads to eternal life and the other does not. Paul preached the gospel of salvation not the wisdom of the world. So how do we get saved according to God’s plan given to Paul? 1 Corinthians 1:17 (KJV) For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. Those that BELIEVE Paul’s gospel can be saved. All other paths are driven by worldly wisdom and not God’s word. What is the gospel of salvation Romans 1:16? 1 Corinthians 1:21 (KJV) For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that BELIEVE!! What was Paul preaching that brings salvation?

I am trying to think of some Orthodox Patriarchs , hmm 🤔. I also notice how you , like my Protestant friends, have no response to Matthew 16:13-19. Why was Peter singled out? Why was he given the keys specifically? Is fruit of the Church to be measured by every single individual? Yes there were bad popes, bad priests, bad monks , bad nuns, and yes they will all stand before Christ in judgment. But flawed, fallen, sinful men, who sit in judgment of the entire Church, due to the actions of men in it, here and there, who failed, that does not reflect wisdom. Christ chose Judas , He healed 9 out of 10 lepers, despite their failure to return and give glory to God as the 10th one did. He chooses the foolish to confound the wise. Within the Catholic Church some of our greatest Saints were actually persecuted by Catholic prelates, such as St Padre Pio, for example. The Blessed Mother often appeared to the most lowly, seemingly insignificant people. Not so much to Bishops or Cardinals. God the Holy Spirit makes His awesome Presence known as He resides within me. So even though I appreciate the reverence and ceremony of the liturgy as well as the traditional hymns, I know that I would be among brethren in pretty much any protestant denomination and I would not be bothered by a memorialist communion. The root of Christianity is trusting in Jesus Christ (the One who propitiated for all of my sins 2,000 years ago) and having a living, loving relationship with God as He lives in & through me, guiding me and enabling me in all good works. All glory to Him for everything, for without Him I can do nothing. You won't see me telling people in my posts that they need to join the Anglican Church or this church or that church. That's because Christianity, at its base, is not about being an official member of any denomination (be it RO, EO, RC, UMC, or whatever); it's about being joined with Christ through faith, being granted the righteousness of God through faith apart from works (Rom. 4), and being spiritually regenerated by the miraculous power of God. The RCs can't appreciate that concept because the RCC has control issues. I certainly hope the Orthodox don't have similar issues! 🙂

John 21 21:1 Postea manifestavit se iterum Iesus discipulis ad mare Tiberiadis. Manifestavit autem sic: 21:1 After this, Jesus manifested himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias. And he manifested himself in this way. 21:2 Erant simul Simon Petrus, et Thomas, qui dicitur Didymus, et Nathanael, qui erat a Cana Galilææ, et filii Zebedæi, et alii ex discipulis eius duo. 21:2 These were together: Simon Peter and Thomas, who is called the Twin, and Nathanael, who was from Cana of Galilee, and the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples. 21:3 Dicit eis Simon Petrus: Vado piscari. Dicunt ei: Venimus et nos tecum. Et exierunt, et ascenderunt in navim: et illa nocte nihil prendiderunt. 21:3 Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “And we are going with you.” And they went and climbed into the ship. And in that night, they caught nothing. 21:4 Mane autem facto stetit Iesus in littore: non tamen cognoverunt discipuli quia Iesus est. 21:4 But when morning arrived, Jesus stood on the shore. Yet the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. 21:5 Dixit ergo eis Iesus: Pueri numquid pulmentarium habetis? Responderunt ei: Non. 21:5 Then Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any food?” They answered him, “No.” 21:6 Dicit eis: Mittite in dexteram navigii rete: et invenietis. Miserunt ergo: et iam non valebant illud trahere præ multitudine piscium. 21:6 He said to them, “Cast the net to the right side of the ship, and you will find some.” Therefore, they cast it out, and then they were not able to draw it in, because of the multitude of fish. 21:7 Dixit ergo discipulus ille, quem diligebat Iesus, Petro: Dominus est. Simon Petrus cum audisset quia Dominus est, tunica succinxit se (erat enim nudus) et misit se in mare. 21:7 Therefore, the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord.” Simon Peter, when he had heard that it was the Lord, wrapped his tunic around himself, (for he was naked) and he cast himself into the sea. 21:8 Alii autem discipuli navigio venerunt: (non enim longe erant a terra, sed quasi cubitis ducentis) trahentes rete piscium. 21:8 Then the other disciples arrived in a boat, (for they were not far from the land, only about two hundred cubits) dragging the net with the fish. 21:9 Ut ergo descenderunt in terram, viderunt prunas positas, et piscem superpositum, et panem. 21:9 Then, when they climbed down to the land they saw burning coals prepared, and fish already placed above them, and bread. 21:10 Dicit eis Iesus: Afferte de piscibus, quos prendidistis nunc. 21:10 Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just now caught.” 21:11 Ascendit Simon Petrus, et traxit rete in terram, plenum magnis piscibus centum quinquaginta tribus. Et cum tanti essent, non est scissum rete. 21:11 Simon Peter climbed up and drew in the net to land: full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn. 21:12 Dicit eis Iesus: Venite, prandete. Et nemo audebat discumbentium interrogare eum: Tu quis es? scientes, quia Dominus est. 21:12 Jesus said to them, “Approach and dine.” And not one of them sitting down to eat dared to ask him, “Who are you?” For they knew that it was the Lord. 21:13 Et venit Iesus, et accipit panem, et dat eis, et piscem similiter. 21:13 And Jesus approached, and he took bread, and he gave it to them, and similarly with the fish. 21:14 Hoc iam tertio manifestatus est Iesus discipulis suis cum resurrexisset a mortuis. 21:14 This was now the third time that Jesus was manifested to his disciples, after he had resurrected from the dead. 21:15 Cum ergo prandissent, dicit Simoni Petro Iesus: Simon Ioannis diligis me plus his? Dicit ei: Etiam Domine, tu scis quia amo te. Dicit ei: Pasce agnos meos. 21:15 Then, when they had dined, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 21:16 Dicit ei iterum: Simon Ioannis, diligis me? Ait illi: Etiam Domine, tu scis quia amo te. Dicit ei: Pasce agnos meos. 21:16 He said to him again: “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.” 21:17 Dicit ei tertio: Simon Ioannis, amas me? Contristatus est Petrus, quia dixit ei tertio, Amas me? et dixit ei: Domine tu omnia nosti: tu scis quia amo te. Dixit ei: Pasce oves meas. 21:17 He said to him a third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” Peter was very grieved that he had asked him a third time, “Do you love me?” And so he said to him: “Lord, you know all things. You know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my sheep. 21:18 Amen, amen dico tibi: cum esses iunior cingebas te, et ambulabas ubi volebas: cum autem senueris, extendes manus tuas, et alius te cinget, et ducet quo tu non vis. 21:18 Amen, amen, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked wherever you wanted. But when you are older, you will extend your hands, and another shall gird you and lead you where you do not want to go.” 21:19 Hoc autem dixit significans qua morte clarificaturus esset Deum. Et cum hoc dixisset, dicit ei: Sequere me. 21:19 Now he said this to signify by what kind of death he would glorify God. And when he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.” 21:20 Conversus Petrus vidit illum discipulum, quem diligebat Iesus, sequentem, qui et recubuit in cœna super pectus eius, et dixit: Domine quis est qui tradet te? 21:20 Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, the one who also had leaned on his chest at supper and said, “Lord, who is it who shall betray you?” 21:21 Hunc ergo cum vidisset Petrus, dixit Iesu: Domine hic autem quid? 21:21 Therefore, when Peter had seen him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, but what about this one?” 21:22 Dicit ei Iesus: Sic eum volo manere donec veniam, quid ad te? Tu me sequere. 21:22 Jesus said to him: “If I want him to remain until I return, what is that to you? You follow me.” 21:23 Exiit ergo sermo iste inter fratres quia discipulus ille non moritur. Et non dixit ei Iesus: Non moritur: sed: Sic eum volo manere donec veniam, quid ad te? 21:23 Therefore, the saying went out among the brothers that this disciple would not die. But Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but only, “If I want him to remain until I return, what is that to you?” 21:24 Hic est discipulus ille, qui testimonium perhibet de his, et scripsit hæc: et scimus, quia verum est testimonium eius. 21:24 This is the same disciple who offers testimony about these things, and who has written these things. And we know that his testimony is true. 21:25 Sunt autem et alia multa, quæ fecit Iesus: quæ si scribantur per singula, nec ipsum arbitror mundum capere posse eos, qui scribendi sunt, libros. 21:25 Now there are also many other things that Jesus did, which, if each of these were written down, the world itself, I suppose, would not be able to contain the books that would be written.

“Scripture Tradition and the Magisterium”. The magisterium is a 19th Century development of Pope Pius IX. No different than the development and accretion of Prior Popes including Pope Leo IX whose sin of Schism cleared the way for every other heresy of the Roman Catholic Church. The One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church determines Truth from heresy by the Holy Spirit through the enduring voices of the many defined by Scripture as pleasing to the Holy Spirit. The Roman CatholicChurch transferred that authority to the Papacy. Protestant Reformers subsequently transferred that authority to the themselves and American Evangelicalism transferred that authority to the individual at their Kitchen Table.

Paul, I’m curious if you would consider the first Church council in Jerusalem (acts15) to have historical and doctrinal continuity. The doors flung open to all nations and without needing the mark of the covenant prescribed by God Himself centuries before. It’s true that divine revelation was still in play, but what a HUGE, and seemingly, divergent movement. Today, while there is no new revelation, Jesus’ Church still exercises authority to bind and loose and does so with the protection of the Holy Spirit promised by Jesus (Mt16…).

@@mikelopez8564 the early church sold all possessions and joined as one in the commune and were preparing for Acts 2:17 to begin. I don’t think anyone today who follows the teachings of Paul for the body of Christ would be obedient in following the early Acts church. Early church believers were to heal all believers… The body of Christ is to preach Paul’s gospel. Most church’s today have a mixed bag and struggle to find unity without settling in on the doctrines for the body of Christ which differ in certain aspects from the church in Jerusalem.

@@Harbinger290 - Protestantism uses the scant historical records of the New Testament to assume the early Church is sitting around saying "I follow Paul", like they do. The New Testament, taken as a whole is a) painfully NOT complete when it comes to faith and practice b) establishes an authority, not a book and c) repetitive in wanting unity. You have indirect evidence only of the complete teaching and practice. In order to find Christ's Church, one must locate the authority of the Rock of the New Testament. Once found, all of Jesus' promise apply. There's no need to fill in the obvious gaps of the New Testament with guessing.

@@mikelopez8564 I am not sure I understand your question regarding the council of Jerusalem. If you mean are its rulings authoritative still today then I would say yes. Clearly they are as they were incorporated by divine inspiration into Holy Writ. Converts to Christianity are not obligated to keep most of the rules prescribed to the Jews by the Mosaic Law, such as Jewish dietary laws and other specific rituals. If you are saying that this Council was specifically a Roman Catholic council, then no I would reject that. That particular Christian tradition did not yet exist. The primitive church referenced in Holy Scriptures and the tradition headed by the Pope are not synonymous. Edify each other and support your brother and neighbour. Blessed Jesus came to destroy sin and death because God loved all of His creation and wants us to get out of this earthly darkness and Babylon world and go home to be with him. So don’t be distracted, support one another and seek only His face. We are all on the Highway of Holiness set by God as a promise to make us Holy. Historicl perspective?! -^The Gospel of Jesus was originally one book, written by Lazarus in consultation with the Apostles [John 21:24] and published soon after Jesus left them on their own. The religion was hijacked by Rome, the Gospel was broken up scrambled adulterated into a bunch of competing narratives. Later four of those adulterated gospels were canonized with falsely ascribed authorship and a Gnosticism cover-story. It was the finding of an original Gospel of Jesus scroll in Jerusalem that gained the Knights Templar power over the Church and their eventual undoing when the church finally retaliated against them Friday 13th.

@rexlion4510 5 месяцев назад
@@atrifle8364 No, I couldn't. Catholics are taught that they cannot hear dependably from the Holy Spirit and therefore they must trust whatever the magisterium tells them to believe. So for example, the Spirit leads me to understand from the Bible that faith in Jesus is the means through which God imputes saving grace and full justification unto eternal life (John 3:14-18; 6:28-29,35,40,47; Mark 16:16; Romans 4:1-25; 10:9-10; Gal. 3:1-14; Eph. 2:8-9). But the RCC says I must believe that baptism is the instrumental means through which God imputes justification, but only initial justification, and that full justification must be infused into (become an integral part of) me through a lifetime of Sacraments, penances, good deeds, and obedience to the Catholic Church. I believe that the RCC teaches salvation in a way which tends to mislead a lay Catholic into placing undue trust in things other than Christ and His finished, sacrificial atonement on the cross as a once-for-all satisfaction for his full debt of sin. By the Spirit I perceive that Jesus was speaking spiritually/metaphorically when He said in John 6:53-56 that one must eat His flesh and drink His blood in order to have eternal life; Jesus explained what He meant in verse 63 (He said He was speaking spiritually, rather than indicating a literal eating of flesh, for the latter "counts for nothing.") But the RCC anathematizes me for not believing in Transubstantiation. The Holy Spirit testifies to my spirit that I am a child of God (Romans 8:15) and that I am an heir to eternal life with Christ. I know that if I died tonight I would be with my Lord for eternity. The RCC declares me anathema for leaving the RCC and also for believing my salvation is secure. I could name several other examples, but you get the picture. A Spirit-led Christian must follow his conscience (and I have done so), for which the RCC anathematizes me. Being led by the Holy Spirit, and being led by the Magisterium & the chair of Peter, are incompatible.

@@rexlion4510 - The Catholic Church insists that the fall matters. That concupiscence is a real thing that happens even to the saints in the making. That you perceive "by the Spirit" that John 6 is metaphorical is exactly what the Church is talking about. You didn't perceive that "by the Spirit". Someone said that and it was believed. It is the universal interpretation of all Protestantism, because it has to be. Jesus had plenty of opportunities to explain and expand John 6 supposed metaphors. He just doubles down, with the text using the Greek word "to gnaw". He loses disciples over it. (It appears He's still losing disciples over it.) The earliest Church believed it including indirect evidence from Paul's epistles. Not a metaphor. If the Spirit tells you that absolutely must already be saved, test it. In Matthew 7, we read not once, but twice that Heaven is not a sure thing for the fallen. This is easily the scariest of passages in almost all of Scripture: "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’" Matthew 7:21-23 The Catholic Church wants you to make it to Heaven. Jesus and the apostles cannot be plainer about not assuming your salvation nor that the powers of your own reason/enrichment with the Holy Spirit are limitless. (Paul interestingly does neither and he could perform miracles.) The issue of justification also has answers, if you were willing to look. It is quite clear that God does not want us to sit on hands for our lifetime and that works do justify. That however is a longer discussion.

Protestant response. Millions of Protestants around the world recite the Nicene creed. Sorry pal but one of the foundational beliefs of Protestantism is that Christ has established one church and one church only namely the Holy Catholic Church. That is not where Protestants and the followers of the Pope differ. They differ over how one recognizes Christ’s Holy Catholic Church in the world. They differ over its identifying marks. Protestants reject as pure sectarianism when any Christian tradition claims that Christ’s church is to be found solely within their particular tradition at the exclusion of all others. There are nearly 1 billion Protestants and Evangelicals in the world. Rome would exclude them all from Christ’s church. That is pure sectarianism. It is also lousy theology. All the redeemed are united to Christ and are therefore united to his church. You cannot be united to Christ but not united to his church. Sectarianism is the scurge of Christianity. I am fully a part of Christ’s Holy Catholic Church. You can claim that I am not all you want but you have no authority to overturn what Christ has done in my life.

Actually, Rome doesn't "exclude all (Protestants) from Christ's church" - All baptized Christians are considered to be within the Church, though not necessarily in full communion. This is why converts, like myself (former Baptist), don't need to be rebaptized to enter into full communion with the Catholic Church - I was already validly baptized into the Church. No divine promise of a perfect body of church leaders was ever made. From Peter’s thrice denial and taking up the sword, to Paul’s collaboration in murder of the first martyr…all are demonstrative of the fact that in every saint there is a past sinner, and in every sinner the potential for a future saint.....;;
