We'll break down game one of the New York Rangers vs the Carolina Hurricanes on today's NHL hockey video! NHL playoffs round two Carolina Hurricanes vs New York Rangers!
@@bryankriser8656 reputation calls aren't neccesarily incorrect calls. they're just soft. Whenver you have a target you have to lay low. I don't think his game can afford to lay low either though.
It feels like the league is trying to police Rempe early and make him an example of the kind of league they want in the future. Kinda like grandfathering in the helmets and visors. Sucks and I hope I'm wrong!
Well he did make a bad first impression his first 3 games with the refs.. Other than that he might actually be the difference maker a couple of games with his style of play..
Since the stars played on the 5th they get a day off. In the second round they schedule the games so that there is only 1 western conference and eastern conference game game each day. So the earliest the stars could play is Wednesday. To keep the scheduling the way they want, Canucks v. Oilers can’t start until Tuesday.
Andersen expected him to shoot, if he drops it it’s a guaranteed goal. It’s a standard move for that line, he just didn’t realize how close Carolina was on the rush
Rangers are the best team this year for a reason. 9-2 in last 11, 17-4 in last 21 and 40-0-1 when scoring 4 goals. 5-0 in playoffs. This team is for real this year and the Ranger haters can talk all the shit they want. This is THEIR year this year. LGR!!!
Yeah but the penguins took good care of the rangers the last time they played them in NY. I wouldn't say that they are better than the penguins, so I can't say they are better than most other teams.
0 use trying to reason with rags fans - if it's against them "weak call, let them play" etc. Meanwhile they swear up and down that every other team in the league is full goon squad and paying off the refs.
As a rangers fan, I think both calls were accurate. Rempe didn't do enough to avoid goalie contact - interference. DeAngelo got his hands up into Cuylle's face - that's roughing 100% of the time.
I was at an off-season clinic a few days ago my coach is already evaluating players for a spring select team and the zibanejad move was pulled on me and it worked. Definitely one of the weirdest goals I've ever given up. It's just something so unexpected and it catches the goalie off guard. Only difference was the two guys on the odd man rush were far ahead of the defense so there wasn't a defender that could poke check the puck away.
Scheduling playoff games is tough. You will always see strange things. You have to remember the many arenas are dual sports (like the Rangers and Knicks who share MSG) so the NHL scheduling department has to take that in to account when scheduling. Plus many arenas are not just sitting by idle waiting for games. They are booked for other events and concerts way in advance. You only find out about playoff games days in advance. Considering how short of notice arenas get on when playoff games will happen, you can understand why it is hard for the NHL to schedule unbiased. It is not to let one team have longer rests than other teams...it is scheduling conflicts with the arenas for an unscheduled event.
That Rempe penalty was a make-up call. 3 seconds earlier he hit someone into the boards a little hard and I guess they wanted to call boarding on it but waited too long to decide if they should call it or not and missed their window. So they called that weak ass goalie interference instead. I've said it once, and I'll say it a thousand times. Hockey is the best sport, but the NHL is the worst league.
Yeah i watch all the major sports leagues and I am always flabbergasted when ppl don’t see how nhl officiating is distinctly worse than nba, nfl, epl etc.
@godssss42 It is shocking. A game is officiated completely differently in October than it is in May. Why on Earth this is allowed to be the case every year is baffling to say the least
@@godssss42 I watch them all and the NHL is not any worse than any other league, they all have horrendous officiating. The MLB takes the cake by far though currently.
NHL reffing is not drastically worse than any other league. Make-up calls and "balanced" games are stupid of course, if a team commits 5 penalties and the other only commits one it should be 10 PIM vs 2, but overall NHL reffing is just kinda the same as american sports in general.
I feel like complaining about any call in hockey is totally useless. Refs are so random, many times making calls based on the score, or to even out penalties. I've given up trying to understand anything. Calls are random, one team blatantly gets away with a mugging, then two seconds later the other team touches someone with their pinky and gets a penalty. It's totally ridiculous.
31 Carolina guy, reminds me of 31 from Toronto maple leafs guy,oh same guy ,put in KOOCH 52 THIS GUY OUR FUTURE REMINDS ME OF 29 FOR TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS MIKE P
Officiating was just piss poor this game. The call on rempe was a makeup call because they didn't make another call earlier. The refs then changed the penalized player during a major review (which you can't do). Weak calls and uncalled calls as well. Refs just wet the bed completely. Edit: grammar
The canes have a history of playing bad games after coming back from a break, I’ve noticed it especially this year. As long as they clean up their pp/pk game, I’m not too worried and I’m excited for some amazing hockey during the second round!
I thought the Rangers played an overall good game. Very few high danger chances against with 5 kills. Still they will have to be better than that as Carolina will tighten up...shaping up to be a great series.
I heard that Rempe has been getting over penalized because of the fact that he is an aggressive player and hits people and starts fights and they don’t want that in the league
@@Falllll yeah true but I remember in game 2 there was a play where the capital passes the puck and Rempe hits him like right after he passed the puck. any other player would have gotten long away with that
@@seanthepro69 if you're talking about the hit he made in game three on Trevor van Riemsdyk, you're only right in the sense that no one else gets called for it because no one else gives the guy a concussion by hitting him in the head there. It was not a good hit. Tom Wilson also gets called for that hit 9 times out of 10.
@@seanthepro69 hm. I watched Game 2 but I don't remember anything specific about a Rempe hit in that game and I don't quite care enough to actually go hunting for it. I'll take your word for it though. Officiating was weird for the entirety of that series.
@@Netcentric-fk6ek I don't understand. You hit a guy high with your skates leaving the ice and you're going to get called for a penalty every time. Are you guys seriously complaining about the penalties? You had 5 Powerplays to our 2. You literally pushed Rempe into your keeper and got one so don't blame the refs just because your PK was non existent. The Hurricanes are a great team but it makes you sound soft.
New York and Carolina it's always a war and they came up around the same time they both got good around the same time well it's never forget what they did to the king
I didn't think the Rangers would have enough of a special teams advantage considering how dominant the Hurricanes usually are at even strength. I'll be curious to see if Carolina's power play can pick it up. It might be the deciding factor
Not really sure how that Panarin shot is a "weak goal" when it was an odd man rush and it slipped past Freddie. If it didn't hit his armpit that would've been considered a "snipe"..arguably it would be considered weak if it wasn't a top 3 Hart candidate scoring it.
Yeah they wanted more games on the weekend and the knicks series is starting soon at home as well so they can’t play on the same night during weekdays.
Ok but can we talk about how absolutely horrible the refs were in game 2. So many blatant penalties against Carolina and they were the ones getting called for stuff.
@@goldenspatian517 That's obviously what he meant, Slavin and Burns were horrible on the PK. If they played at their normal level Rangers had literally no chance of ever winning this game (in regulation at least).
Powerplays killed you, not penalties. You are prob gonna have to kill off more than 2 a game going forward. Especially when you aren’t getting game management calls
I think both teams' defenses were slow in this one due to the roughly week off they both had prior to starting this series. Look for both defenses to step up in game 2. The Rempe call was not a penalty as he was clearly pushed in to the goalie BUT about five seconds prior to that Rempe got away with either a roughing or boarding in the corner that went uncalled. I think the Rempe call was a make-up call by the ref for missing the one he did make in the corner.
Ranger fan here, they got caught sitting on the lead in the third. It felt like I was watching early 2010s Rangers when they just could never get the puck out of the zone, that third goal was only a matter of time because of the amount of time the Canes had in the zone. Overall they're still playing well tho.
That's the only concern with this team. They still get caught in their own zone for awhile but if you look across the league so are the other juggernauts. Vegas was severely outshot for stretches. Edmonton got out possessed in their zone last night so it's gonna happen. Difference with this team is when we finally do get out of it unscathed we can actually score with limited chances. Years past we needed 30 shots to score 1 or 2. This year we can put up 4 on 25 shots. Scoring has been our downfall since our runs started in 2011.
Rempe is going to forever be one of those guys who the refs never give the benefit of the doubt. It sucks, but it happens to certain players throughout their careers.
lol at anyone whining over Rempe earning himself a reputation. I’m a Devils fan. I hate the Rangers. But I’ll give credit where credit is due. He literally has a teammate who could is a master class in his field-Trouba. I hate Trouba. But he’s terrifying to play against. He does his job. He doesn’t even need to throw a huge hit every game or even that often. He has developed the right rep to scare people when he’s on the ice. Rempe just skates around like a Hanson brother and would hit his mother if she leaned over the glass. Hes not going to last long.
I don't know what the NHLs problem is with Rempe. I can't put my finger on what their deal is. My only theory is that they are legitimately concerned that this guys gonna hit someone and do serious damage. So they call these bs penalties on him to soften up his aggressiveness. Only thing that makes sense because it cant be argued that they are definitely hawking him the second he touches the ice.
I Disagree I think the rangers 4 goal was just placed well because my goalie said if he play it perfectly between a goalies blocker and pad it will go in almost no matter what
I was literally staring at me screen like Mika…I’m sorry I love him so much he’s literally my favorite non goalie player but WHAT was that move from him
While I tend to agree I've been mentioning this because all the Rangers haters are acting like we're getting smoked but have had good fortune. If anything it's the opposite. Rangers majority of goals are highly skilled passing plays. Canes, let's be honest, haven't scored impressively at all so that's where I think this comment would come into play. But yea a goals a goal as long as your not acting like your the shit down 2-0 lol
Carolina had some lucky bounces and an uncharacteristic sneak through the 5-hole by Igor as well. the implication that the Rangers got lucky here is odd coming from a Rangers' homer.
i dont think the deangelo penalty should have been called. it was not high enough to bee considered an elbow. if you look closely it was in the collarbone region so i dont understand what h got called for. i think they said roughing but idrk
I think that the rangers stopped taking chances offensively and concentrated on shutting down Carolina. That's why Carolina had the puck so much at the end of the 2nd and during the 3rd. Midway through the 3rd Carolina had only 14 sog. I think Carolina had luck on their side. Let's see what game 2 has in store.
The Rempe call was the same as an elbow to the face according to refs. And they missed the double-minor stick to the face. God i hope the refs doesnt decide this series.
Rempe gets called for existing at this point. But that big mooly that the Canes got can take runs right at guys heads, as can all the other tough guys, but when the Rangers get a banger its all over 😂
