@Andre's revenge that and let's be honest, it's not the early 2000s anymore, when the transition from wrestling to MMA was much easier. It's a different ballgame right now.
@@thebizkit69u it really never was. High level wrestlers have had mixed success through the whole history of mma. Guys like royce alger, Kevin jackson come to mind among many others. Not everybody is gonna be cejudo/cornier.
normal character traits for wrestlers. highly intelligent strategists with a high level of loyalty and discipline. most people don't know what those words mean anymore.
Didn't pass a very intelligent comment about small countries where there is no Mc Donald's, and mentions Qatar.......he should know Qatar is one of the richest countries in the world and have Donald's all over the place Ignorance
wrestling is part of fighting- striking isnt the only part of the game. Some of the best mma fighters have strarted from wrestling. It builds a perfect base and foundation. man even in nature- you see animals wrestle.
You are totally right Wrestling is not the same as fighting .its totally different ballgame when you get punched in the face .90 percent of elite professional athletes could train for 7 years and have very good skills to compete at a good level .But not every athlete has that killer instinct in them .wonderboy can take a punch and has the dog in him but even he lacks the killer instinct in him .if wonderboy had the same killer instinct as conor or a diaz he would be untouchable
A super athlete, with brains, and class. I can listen to him and Joe talk about wrestling all day. Its a shame Olympic wrestling is not a primary sport on ESPN. And I think its probably the rule changes, like he said. #jordanburroughstheGOAT
This guy trains way harder than 99% in ufc. Absolute beast and would be the highest level wrestler in ufc history by a mile. Him in 155 division with couple years boxing and jiujitsu training would be khabib on steroids
Also the money is not the same wrestling isnt that good in wealth like prize fighting and hes just not bout it he not mentally strong and feels he will get hurt when i get into the ring i never go into it thinking ima het hurt cant blame him he knows he cant bang with them dogs in mma
*Timestamps coming soon* Ive made a vid on the history of the JRE. (P.S, Ive missed you guys) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3kWJLnBauEk.html
Go watch beat the streets with him and askren, trust me you will have a different opinion after that, as well as look for their interview after beat the streets.
I feel like nowadays its harder for good wrestlers to transition to mma quickly and be successful. The skill of the average ufc fighter is so much higher than like 10 years ago. If he would have switched to mma in 2011 he probably would have done well tho. Ive never seen someone with a better double leg than Jordan.
@@zoogie980THat's incorrect though that's where 70+% of mma prospects even come from is wrestling wether it be in the US or like the former soviet block countries

jordan is just one of the best wrestlers i have ever seen and this pov of his thoughts on fighting whether its wrestling or mma is mature in a different scale than most people realize
4x world champ and Olympic Gold Medalist. Incredible. This dudes 5’7” and I’ve seen him dunk a basketball. Just a freak athlete but even more freakishly hardworking.

oh no, you have to actually use a different program to watch? ugh how hard! It takes over ten seconds to play the full podcast too damn man that's so annoying.
that's offensive, to plunge yourself into danger is in a way more smarter than sitting back and running away, not calling this guy a coward because his in tune with his answer but im calling you coward.
@@FM-dm8xj Your English reading skills suck and your writing isn much better. You clearly have no idea what he even said or meant. Stick to videos in your native language.
I love that JB referenced the confusing aspects of Olympic-style wrestling. As a former wrestler, this is one of the biggest downsides to freestyle wrestling- the subjectivity associated with points ("Should that have been two points? Or four? Or none?") and it makes it extremely hard to get new fans drawn in. There are multiple matches with freestyle wrestlers in the midst of wrestling, and they themselves are confused by the points. That should be fixed (such as the no-overtime rule, imho it hurts us) so we can get more fans in.
Theres a certain maturity to it I although it is still a sport. You dont play wrestling like you play basketball. You DO wrestling. You compete. Much more sophistication.
Look at Romero.... Jordan already has the most important/dominant part of MMA down. Come on brotha.... I could see Mr. White offering you a monster contract of probably 50k to show and 50k to win
I appreciate Jordan for talking about how often rules change. I haven’t wrestled in years and any time I watch something on tv or RU-vid I feel like I have no idea what the rules are and what scores and what doesn’t.
YES!!! As a wrestler I couldn’t believe that this was actually happening EVERYONE should go watch the whole podcast Jordan is one of the best people and is such an amazing representative for the sport of wrestling

Haha Joe caught himself too, he was about to do a louder groan when he heard that she talked Jordan out of it, but instead he did a mini-groan and caught himself lol.
I did some boxing but have found myself watching these guys because they are great personalities and great athletes. And the matches are quick to watch which is great.
@@samuelmeier1617 Yeah like kudos to him, but without the comment section and just how generally commercialised it's got, it's lost alot of the reasons of why I originally liked it. Started low-key looking around for other podcasts to fill the void.
@@blademaster9297 I mean, I think Joe probably does care, he's not completely money driven, and that's one of the reasons why he was so popular. But I'm sure it helps soften the blow.
Way to represent 08081, Champ! Lots of love for South Jersey/Sicklerville. Proud to say I graduated and wrestled at the same high school as this cat. You're a class act.
Amazing athlete, and clearly wise beyond his years knowing he doesn’t need the head trauma that MMA brings, Jake and his brother Paul should listen to this man instead of trying to fight actual fighters who would murder them
I'm good with seeing the Paul brothers get the ever-loving shit kicked out of them lol, they are complete scumbags, well at least Jake is. Logan worst was filming that dead Japanese guy, which he seems genuinely sorry for and hasn't really done anything else. But him thinking he's a good pro fighter annoys the fuck out of me, so I'll still watch him get his shit kicked in too lol.
It's been that way though for the last 100 years or so since Hollywood realised everyone just wanted to look at pretty people on a big screen for 2 hours. Talent has nothing to do with fame. I mean outside the BJJ or Amateur Wrestling hardcore fans, how many people in the street could name you the current elite world champions in those sports. Could you tell me the last 5 world Chess Champions without looking it up.
The clinch rule was tough... Karelin lost b/c of the sheer size of Rulon Gardner's chest which made it nearly impossible for Karelin to keep grasp of....
@Joske Vermeulen America is the first at hating itself man. So no need to pile on. America is the best at a lot of things though, and to deny that is stupid, considering you're hearing an American dude talking about an American sport on an American made app and prob on an American made phone.
@Joske Vermeulen the wrestling taught in America is called (American)folkstyle, and kids start off training it at 5 years old. It's even more astounding when you see a guy like cael sanderson who by the age of 21 was easily the greatest athlete to ever wrestle folkstyle, who then up and switched to a completely new style and in 3 years had become the best in the world at international freestyle.
He doesn't need the UFC. He really is making money earning medals overseas, winning exhibitions in the US, and sponsorships. He's one of the few American athletes that the general public in the US has no idea who he is, but is famous overseas.

Modern MMA has advanced a fair bit as well. Wrestling is a cardio intensive endeavour. Most MMA fighters have trained takedown defense, and MMA striking has grown in sophistication. Much easier to sprawl, and then pick apart the wrestler. And even if you do take them down, it's not easy to keep them down and you have to watch out for submissions
This dude is a legend. I don’t know shit about wrestling but for some reason I’ve known about him. He’s next level! I’ve always wanted to see him compete in MMA!
Saw Jordan wrestle in a Dual Meet with Fresno State & UC Davis. You don’t truly understand what a physical specimen the man is. He was wrestling at 178 (I believe ) Carved out of granite
Been a hardcore JRE fan since the low 300s, but ever since the move to Spotify I have only watched one full episode(Bill Burr). The JRE is kind of just fading away from my life in a weird way.
Ben Askren was widely known as one of the best ever wrestling specialists to compete in MMA and Jordan absolutely SMASHED him in a wrestling bout. Would have loved to see him compete in MMA after the 2012 Olympics and see where his career could have gone.
@@TakeshixStudios, so wrestling isn't a contact sport? At the level he's at in wrestling, I'm pretty sure at some point he's been concussed. Are wrestlers exposed to CTE as much as Boxers, MMA fighters, or NFL players? Maybe not as much, but to say that they don't get concussed is a pretty naive thing to say
@@ivanvee1258 "Minimal CTE"? What does that even mean? First, wrestlers arent exposed to head trauma hardly at all which is the cause of CTE. Theres probably more head trauma in basketball than wrestling with elbows being thrown. Wrestling is leverage and torque, not hitting or extreme blows to the head or body. If you ever watched or done the sport you would see the head is rarely hit hard enough to get a concussion, not anymore than any other sport that is physical. Second, theres no "benefits" to "minimal CTE" at all. Its always bad. I think you are the one naive to the sport. I have wrestled through my youth and Uni years.... the only concussions i have EVER seen are from accidental head butts or running into something during practice. They arent common at all.
@@avidadolares I wrestled all throughout school too, and I saw plenty of concussions in my time. I only had one confirmed one in my 'career', but I know guys who got 3 or 4 over the course of their time in the sport. And when you get to the Olympic level, the way those animals train I'd bet concussions come around somewhat often. But you're 100% right that CTE is out of the question in wrestling. I don't think any pure wrestler has ever had CTE. Concussions, sure. But CTE comes from constant, sub-concussive blows to the head, i.e. getting punched without being KOd. There are zero sub concussive blows to the head in wrestling, minus the accidental headbutt or slam where you land on your head. But those are rare along with concussions in wrestling in general.
I wrestled for years and now I've trained BJJ/MMA for a long time as well. In all honesty, he's right. Most of the injuries sustained in wrestling are either in practice or self-inflicted, like from trying to turn out of something stupid. MMA has people actively trying to hurt you. Wayyy more injuries there
They have made it so that international wrestling is incredibly fast paced and exciting to watch, much more so than in the past. I think if people gave it a shot they would like it.
Look at Jordan vs Ben. Ben flatfooted as ever, while Jordan's rear heel was almost always up ready to spring forward. He was playing a distance game that Ben has completely neglected
He's being very modest though, even if he could barely throw hands with a guy that big he'd just need to work on technique, his wrestling would be that elite that he'd be top 5 easy
I don't know if Jordan likes Pro Wrestling or not, but if he takes to the sport he could be the 2nd coming of Kurt Angle. He is well spoken, young, and just has a level of prestige that is incomparable. He could be a huge hit in that world.
Well he's a skilled wrestlers and all, but idk about that. The reason Kurt Angle shined wasn't bc he was an Olympian it's because he was able to play a really good character and worked well in the attitude/ruthless aggression era. Now if you mean in ring I think Burroughs could very well be exactly like angle and catch on fast.
