Yup. Clone Hero did an incredible thing for the rhythm game community, but the lack of vocals was a serious bummer (and made it so it could never really be a RB replacement), there are still a lot of engine flaws (hopos are hilariously easy), and development has been CRAZY fast on YARG. Plus it doesn't used ripped assets which is great.
Obviously we do, everyone needs more rhythm games in their lives, Clone Hero and Spin Rhythm can't hold down the fort forever without some more friends.
YARG has been such a fascinating thing for me to see develop. It might be the first time I'm GENUINELY invested in a proper rhythm game. It's super easy to use and understand, especially for someone like me who has little knowledge of rhythm game stuff. Super excited to see where the game goes, and I can't wait to see more YARG over here on the channel. I always love stopping by on Twitch and watching you plan, man.
YARG is lighting a fire in the community. Things like realtone cable support in the future have some insane potential. Also the "true drums" plans for hi-hat pedal support are lovely
Custom venues have so much potential to make this game mindblowing, it makes me think of custom backgrounds for Trombone Champ and how popularity in that game exploded once people started making them. Hopefully it'll be the same in this case and we'll get a lot of creativity on show.
Hell, I wanna rock out in Canterlot in YARG (Yet Another Rhythm Game) Rocking out with 4EverfreeBrony, PrinceWhateverer, Vylet Pony and Astro Eden. The joint gon' be off the chain.
Nice sight read FC, song is a banger! I think it's good to have more rhythm games around, so we can fully extract potential and make for better experiences.
YARG just feels so satisfying to play it's hard to describe. I love the way the notes look, I love the tighter hit windows. I don't know how but I genuinely play better on YARG than clone hero.
Not sure if you’ve heard of “Project Outfox”…Typically I use it for ITG/DDR…but it also support for DK Bongos, GH and like 10 other obscure rhythm games… Just figured I’d share…This does like very sick though ngl…
While I have not played and GH or any games like it, and can't really do so as I do not have a guitar, but have played other rhythm games and have fun with them even though not the best at them, I do think it is always best to get more rhythm games, especially in the GH/Rock Band type, to see how people put a spin on them, just so interesting to see YARG and others come out, to have choices and the such
YARG seems like if Clone hero was far more ambitious. Might convince me to pick up guitar hero considering the last time I played was in a bowling alley arcade pre-lockdown
Honestly it's pretty cool that we've finally seen another guitar clone go for the RB aesthetics because I always liked that more than the round notes of GH. Previously I think all we had to go with that's even semi modern was phase shift or an out of date Clone Hero mod that got broken by the official release
The main thing that pisses me off about CH currently is that there’s a bug that prevents you refreshing customization stuff (Backgrounds, colors, highways) that has been in the game since 1.0 dropped 8 months ago. It would take, like, an afternoon to fix, but they just left it in the game!
Part of the reason YARG existing is wonderful for the community. Noticed more Clone Hero dev streams since YARG started picking up on the Twitch side. Lighting a fire in the community to push things forward.
Damn I was just thinking about how much I miss playing Rock Band drums and then this video shows up. Might need to dust off the ol' kit and see how this feels. Also that Hearteater song ripped.
I'm interested in how leaderboards handle the options. It reminds me on the controversy of if Hyperspeed was a cheat. Should anti-ghosting be required? Should infinite frontend be not allowed? If players are claiming an FC on this engine, should they show that they had anti-ghosting on/off before they start the FC?
The devs are already on this! The multiplier will change color if you have anti-ghosting on or not. Will take time for people to understand the differences. Will be based on personal preference with anti-ghosting accomplishments meaning a lot more. Options are a great thing
@@JasonParadise For sure! It gives power to the player. When options aren't in a game, players usually have to solve than themselves through modding. It's nice when that's not needed. Thanks for the response Jason. I've been enjoying your videos since the meme days. Thanks for what you do and have a great day!
Yeah, probably shouldn't cut ghosting out of the runnings completely, since some of the most insane CH charts out there are questionably humanly possible to FC without it. It would probably be most sensible if it eventually had automatic split leaderboards based on settings that affect difficulty.
Emil Bulls is a German band that is relatively know in Germany, I would say. I've heard them on some radio stations at least and they are even booked for Wacken next year. So yeah, I can recommend checking them out :)
the one big thing for me is does it have taps only cuz my rock band 1 guitar I use has a busted strum bar that doesn't want to register half of the down strums from decades of use, I also refuse to switch to a GH Wiitar because I like how close the higher (following actual guitar logic) fret buttons are on Rock Band's controllers because it's what I used to get my first Expert FC in RB1 with Welcome Home and what I got used to
Modifiers aren't all in the game just yet, but they're on the way in the future. One of the devs mentioned a potential "streamer vs. chat" game mode which could allow chatters to turn modifiers on and off. Fun stuff ahead
If I can do vocals for some of my favorite bands (Symphony X, Stratovarius, DragonForce, Ayreon, and Unleash the Archers are the ones I’d think would be really fun) I’ll get YARG. But I’m pretty sure all the charts I have of those bands don’t have vocals right now. YARG looks sick, I’m just pretty content with clone hero at the moment
I’ll tell you what we really need, more instruments. Things are getting damn expensive and the last one I bought has a bad red button. 3D printing is an option but that’s also a pain in the butt. So you’re left with hoping your old instruments hold out or using your keyboard. Just sucks.
Agreed. Still the number one issue in the community. Thankfully we have options for ekits on drums, and pro keys with midi support on the way. Much easier to find midi instruments (just more expensive) Hopefully we can get new plastic guitars in the future. Folks have been trying. Fingers crossed.
When they get Gamepad Mode working, let me know. Gampad Mode is the main reason I play Clone Hero, so when they add that to YARG I'll switch over. Until then, I'll stick with CH.
What I want more than anything is a clone hero engine that's defaulted to a stricter timing window and has timing grades a la stepmania and other games. If they add the latter I'd probably swap over immediately.
Though I love clone hero, I can easily let it go for YARG if it means the end of spamming. So many top players with the majority of the skill coming from spamming and calling it an FC. I won’t give names for the sake of avoiding an argument but a game like this is sure to let Frif and Randy skyrocket even more for their amazing accuracy.
Just tried YARG out. Here are my takes: - I enjoy the hit detection, at least when anti-ghosting is off. Might try with it later on as long as it doesn't it feel like Rock Band immediately which was too tight hit window. - Tilt felt good when activated that way - but it did trigger a lot on its own. Didn't check if there's an option for deadzone yet. - Detecting the difference between normal and tap note was hard to distinguish. They aren't quite distinct enough so A.I.ngel (Become God) was rough to play. - I kind of miss going through the main menu with my controller. - Scanning songs took awfully long time. I'll look forward to it, though there are maybe some rough edges to shape still.
Most of this will be addressed in the v0.12 (which you can already try out in its alpha state). We are also planning for themes in the near future as well!
They're hosted in the Customs Community Discord server, separate from the YARG discord. Custom builds of the game are available there as well (such as a circle theme for notes) discord.gg/ykWkTJPKSd
is there an option to make it not look like Rock Band? I just really hate the rock band notes for some reason. Also, will it take up less space than Clone Hero? My computer rapidly turned into a Clone Hero machine, so I had to delete it in order to use my computer for literally anything else
I wish there was something like this for consoles. I'm stuck with a no longer supported rock band 4 with a xbox 360 controller running through a no longer made adapter... basically once one of those things break im screwed
I think DJ support would be cool in somthing like this. Imagine songs that have turntables in them like Allstar, Linkin Park stuff and even stuff like Walk This Way with Aerosmith and Run DMC with the DJ hero controls for the turntables
Personally i feel it and many others are so close to guitar hero that its just that. Its guitar hero just with a different name. Ya it has a few things that seem cool but at the end of the day its guitar hero for me. Id rather see a whole new game with new mechanics. Something ive not seen in a rythm game before. Something that sets it apart from all else.
There's one circle mod made so far, yay open source. Themes are planned to be supported in the future. The circle theme is downloadable in the custom builds channel of the YARG customs discord: discord.gg/ykWkTJPKSd
Actual serious question about YARG, is it still possible to do just videos as backgrounds like in Clone Hero or is it JUST venues? As someone who watches a lot of videos of soundclown stuff played on plastic-guitar losing video backgrounds would be sad.
This all sounds interesting, but the main thing that turns me off from this, is that the notes on the highway are too bland. This is just my personal experience with it
Really not a fan of the Rock Band styled UI elements. Hopefully we see some options/mods to change to other styles. I'll have to pass on this one, at least until it's out of alpha. I've been burned by one too many games that seemed great but ultimately died before 'release'. And far too many of those were closed source, thus making it impossible for passionate community members to carry the torch thereafter. That having been said, this looks damn cool for people that might be interested in playing something new and exciting, and I'm curious to see where it goes from here - though I won't be playing it any time soon, personally.
The first circle theme for the game is available in their custom community discord server. Yay for open source allowing fast development. Plan is eventually to have themes for the game available. Definitely one to watch 🤘
I do really want to like this after testing it out, but I just can't stand the rock band style highway and notes. I much prefer the one clone hero has.
Looks promising but honestly the rockband aesthetic is kindof a dealbreaker for me. It bothers me probably more than it should but it is really distractingly ugly
Such a solid take. I'm loving YARG, and I would recommend it whole heartedly to anyone interested in another rhythm game to play. The Devs are super open with everything, and communicate with everyone, everything they are working on in regards to the project. Please give this game love and hype, because it truly deserves it.
Communication with the YARG devs is refreshing. They're always asking for feedback. Wild how far YARG has come in such short time, but it makes sense with the passion the devs are putting into the game
You know, the first time I saw video footage of this, I thought it *was* Rock Band. I'm...kinda hyped for that roadmap tbh. Also Hearteater is a pretty good song, I've never heard of the band either but I could definitely come back and listen to that song more.
