I've been using it since 2013, it's the only budgeting tool I have been able to stick to with unmedicated ADHD. The trick I have found is to set a budget up in advance, for example say you just bought a new phone, you should already be planning/budgeting for when you need a new phone 2-3 years down the line. If you get a car, you should already be saving up for a new car 5-10 years down the line. It's such a great feeling when say the phone you have had for years finally dies and you think "Oh yeah I have 1.2k just sitting in a budget that I saved up when I bought this phone", and just being able to get a new one without the dread of thinking this is gonna hurt or that I am gonna get locked in to a two year payment plan. I also found categorising things in priority instead of category is better. P1,P2,P3 ect. P1s should be the essentials for survival, rent/mortgage, insurance, groceries, electricity, fuel, bills ect P2 Should be essentials that keep you comfortable, Clothing, medical, dental, emergency fund, pet care funds, internet bills. P3 are the things that are important but future related, new car, new phone, software subscriptions. P4 are things you want but don't really need to survive. P5, P6 ect As income comes in I always fill from the top down, P1s first ect going down so I know my income goes to the most important stuff first. The hardest part about YNAB with ADHD is getting into the habit of checking your funds before you leave for the shops or before you click purchase on the website, but that's not really the fault of YNAB but my own brain being impulsive.

I began using YNAB in October 2021. I was extremely good with funding my True Expenses (which I call my Future Debt Prevention), but I was still having some difficulties with my day-to-day spending. I was moving money from one category to another (ie from groceries to household, etc) constantly. I finally realized that perhaps I was not being realistic with the amounts being assigned in individual categories. Instead of giving up I am using those moves as learning experiences for my future budgeting. I really enjoyed your video, so I subscribed and added you to my official YNAB playlist for easy reference. I'm looking forward to more videos like this from you. Thanks!

This is truly the perspective us ADHD folks need to have when using YNAB. Especially the part about having a “it’s just a temporary phase” mindset until we have a consistent income. My current life situation is pretty intense, financially speaking, and I’m going to try and have this mindset every day until the stability arrives. Thank you for this video :)

I just got started with YNAB and I am absolutley loving it. I always had the problem of 'how can I physically (or logically) set aside money for non-monthly purchases'? Making mental notes or using spreadsheets to 'earmark' money in my checking and savings accounts wasn't giving me the accountability I needed. YNAB was EXACTLY what I was looking for! I love how it is present and future focused. I wish I started this years ago!

Love this video. Very different than a lot of videos from ynab channel. Ynab is just a mirror to be able to talk to yourself in the future and to ask you each time you want to spend if you are in the right direction to where you want to go. And it's really hard to tell you a lie about yourself right in front of a mirror. The problem is people just put a blanket on the mirror like a cat putting his head under a pillow and thinking because he not see you, you are not see him. People who say ynab don't works are just not really to change their habits. That requires a lot of willpower in the Amazon single one click buy where we live :D

My partner has been making me use YNAB and I clicked on this video 100% so I could justify us not using it anymore because I hate it. Then as the video kept playing, he just gradually got more and more smug. So. I still hate YNAB, but you've made my fiscally-focused partner very happy, and thinking about YNAB differently than I was before, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to manage my resources in a way that is less frustrating for the both of us. Thank you.

I've been using YNAB since 2013, it's the only budgeting tool I have been able to stick to with unmedicated ADHD. I have found that I still need spreadsheets to plan ahead where my money will go. This is the most expensive app (outside of Ramsey+) and now YNAB will raise the annual fee to over $100.00!!!!! So NOW I am SADLY shopping for a new app.

I don't really understand YNAB's benefit over Mint. I use Mint to not only project my total savings, monthly income and keep track of savings for long-term/annual expenses but also to keep track of my overall wealth wealth while having better tracking tools to stay on top of organization. I don't spend more than I have and make sure that I operate on a fully funded 0 overage budget, but it makes no sense to me how YNAB is supposedly better and "forward looking" while completely restricting you to handle your finances as if you were making only cash purchases in that moment. People keep praising YNAB as superior to Mint, but I just don't see it. It seems like there's just more hassle to it which was the main reason I moved away from Everydollar. Am I missing something?

Click bait title- because you do not proof why the platform is not working in the content, but instead you guide users to use it as it is designed…. For me doing research on choosing or not this YNAB platform for future use, you took my time not delivering what you have promised in the title. 😔
@AmberDuggerOfficial

Hi Mircea! Thanks for being here! The title is not intended to be click bait. I am not sure how much you watched but I specifically explain why YNAB doesn't work for many people who don't use it properly. The point of this video is to emphasize the importance of using the software properly; otherwise, it doesn't work. Good look with your research! YNAB is amazing if used properly!

I don't own the app and reticent about paying almost a 100$ for a year subscription. If you have to enter everything manually what is the difference with the app and just making a Excel or Google Sheet spreadsheet? Trying to figure out how it actually work, without having to enter my bank info in for the free trial because I will probably forget to unsub if I end up not using it lol
@retropetsgirl
@retropetsgirl Год назад
@@magalimasson9472 YNAB doesn't ask for a credit card, so you don't need to remember to unsubscribe. after your free 34 day trial it just won't let you back in unless you subscribe, but you won't be charged because they don't take your cc for the trial. You don't have to enter manually, btw. You can connect to your bank and it pulls in transactions. I love ynab :)

I’ve had YNAB for a very long time. Still have my YNAB 4 key. The problem is that it has become too time consuming. I’m in the legal field, take care of both of my parents and my family, so pencil and paper could work for me at this point. I found my bank imports to be inaccurate time and time again and I didn’t have time to input everything manually. My finances are pretty simple tho. I found more value from working more, working on my business, cash envelopes than tracking my expenses in any app. I still use YNAB everyday though, but I use credit unions and some are not supported on YNAB, so my budget has had to have many workarounds.

This is an awesome video! I love the mindset you present towards YNAB and why it is important. Trackers are reactive and too late because the money is already spent. I was using Mint on and off for a year or so and got really frustrated because it either isn't designed for forward thinking, tying out budgets with income or I didn't know how to use it properly. I am grateful it is shut down and I am guided to use YNAB, which looks to do what I really need. Thank you!

@AmberDuggerOfficial

I find that it is truly worth the effort. That said, you can start with simply guessing (that is what I recommend to my clients) and then the longer you use YNAB, the more accurate the spending reports will be, and then you can make adjustments. In Profit for Keeps®, we have a google sheet that we recommend our clients use that acts as a template for each expense. That said, you have a template for YNAB at all times and can make adjustments as needed. Good luck to you!

Hi Anne! Most people can't learn YNAB in one night. It does have a learning curve but that said, it is SO worth it! And YNAB does have you keep all your money in the bank. You are just using their software to organize it. Think of YNAB as your big shoebox and instead of all your money being stashed in a big pile, you have envelopes inside the shoe box that is organizing how you plan to spend and save your cash. The shoe box is your bank account in this example. Don't give up! YNAB is life-changing!
