Another thing a lot of new snowboarders do is not Tie their boot correctly. If there is a gap between the tung of your boots and your shins it will require a lot more aggressive of a move to get the board to initiation the toe side. Never tuck your pant legs into your boots, make sure your boots are tight. Also don't forget those inner liner should also pulled tight as well. Hey JB you should do a video of correctly putting on a snowobard boot. I know it sounds a bit basic of a skill, but you would be surprised as an instructor we probably have at least 4 students that have this issue.

I used to be scared of toeside turns, especially when the run was narrow and/or had a cliffside, but once I took in person lessons, snowboarding really opened up. While you can learn online, nothing beats inperson lessons. If you want to be a good snowboarder and have fun doing it, PLEASE get in person lessons. Have a good one :)

Yes you are absolutely correct about this one. Even if its just a one hour private lesson. It will make all the difference. We are trained to see what body mechanics are not working correctly and can point out what is going on in just about one run.

Have a great time. Remember, its a good idea to have low expectations of yourself on your first day. Its not as easy as it looks. If you set the bar low you will have a fantastic day!. If you can get down the mt. heal / toe slipping the entire way. You my friend have had an amazing day! Also, Don't pack your boots into your car tonight, but them by the front door so you don't forget them. but if you leave them in the car overnight they will be very cold and will not warm up and your feet will take the brunt of it. Have a great Day!

Awesome video 👍 I started snowboarding on a plastic Kmart board and could not learn no matter how hard I tried. If you try and try but just can't figure it out, it could be your board.

Never realized toeside turns were so challenging for some folks. I haven't been snowboarding in 10 years, but hitting up Keystone in a few weeks, so I guess I'll see just how bad my turns probably are. 😅

Just got back from practicing my toe turns for 4 hrs n falling hard a few times n this is helping me so much learning what I was doing wrong (had all my weight on that back foot scared of catching speed 😅) thank you!!!

Yeah, If you are leaning to much on your back leg you will loop out when going to a toe side / Heal side turn. Better to lean a bit forward. Even more as the terrain becomes steeper.

So, on steeper terrain, is it the same on less steep terrain, or do you have to do something different on steeper terrain?

Yes the body positions and mechanics are the same. However they may need to be a bit more exaggerated and you will also need to lean a bit more forward onto your front foot.
