In this video, Allison explains why you cannot work remotely in France on a visitor or tourist visa. Income cannot be reported while on a visitor visa. This could pose a lot of problems for you in the future. She also explains the difficulties of trying to switch from a visitor visa to a visa that allows you to work legally in France, or similarly switching from a student visa to one that allows you to work. She gives suggestions for the various visa types that may be a great option for you to apply for if you plan to work independently in France.

I'm not disagreeing because I'm not well versed personally, but lately I've been doing some research and 5-10 people including 2 companies that help people move from US to FR say that you can work remotely on the long stay visitor visa just fine. I'll post some sources below if it helps anyone, but as always, consult a lawyer before you decide who's correct. Thanks for the video!

Hey Allison, this is a great video. I do have a question: If I already have an established online business here in the U.S do I still need to apply for a professional visa and basically recreate my business plan to prove I can make at least 1500 Euros per month? I hope I understood that correctly lol

But the income is not from French source or income. The idea is to not take a job from a potential French applicant or enter the job market or become a competitor. I was under Talent Visa with AWS and I know people that ran their US business remotely or freelancer. They just had to pay their taxes/impôts to DG des Finances of the Department. However, you're right about working remote for a big corporate company. It is going to be illegal for most americans because you cannot work in a different country for more than 90 days. My job for example will require a mutation to become a legal french employees.

What if I'm wanting to stay more than 90 days but less than 183 and work remotely? I understand that you're saying you still aren't technically supposed to do a tourist visa in this scenario...but would it actually be an issue?

Does your business insurance cover you in a country where your business is not registered? Will your travel insurance cover work-related incidents abroad while you are on vacation?

I didn’t know that Americans need a visa to travel to France? Thought it was just your American passport and that’s it.

If you want to stay longer than 3 months you’ll need a visa
