This is a very important and interesting topic. When I try to speak English in American accent my elder sister teases me "Ohh fake accent", and I hate that cause it make me feel like I'm doing something wrong and I started feeling demotivated 😢. But then I watch some videos on youtube like yours Ms. Mark, Lucys and also Rachel's English and starts feeling good again. It's a request to you, please make a video on "How to speak with American accent, confidently". Thank you Mis. Mark 😊❤
Hi, Veronika. I appreciate this video. I am a native speaker of American English but I speak Spanish fluently although I'm not native. 27 years later and I still make mistakes while speaking but I've been graded by ACTFL at Advanced Mid proficiency. Whether I have an accent depends on who you ask. Some native speakers are shocked to learn I didn't grow up speaking Spanish and others politely tell me I have an accent if I ask. There's a saying that having an accent means you're brave. I'd say you do have an accent but it is very slight. Only some words are a clue. Now, the word QUARTER: can you try to say [core der]. That's really going to help you say it well. Thanks for the video!
Hi Veronika, I'm new here on your channel and I think it's amazing. I'm from Brazil and I've been studying english for 3 years in a half. I wrote down some things for myself to study later and practice my active learning: 1. What causes accents in a foreign language? -Influence in your native language -New sounds rules -Age of language acquisition 2. Is it a bad thing to have an accent in a foreign language? -It is not a bad thing -Accents are natural -Accents reflect cultural diversity -communication is KEY 3. Can you reduce or eliminate your accent? -Do a self-assessment and identify your weaknesses -Take pronunciation classes or work with a coach -Practice pronunciation exercises -You need feedback 4. Is Having an Accent a Common experience? -It is! It is a very common experience to have an accent when we speak a foreign language! Words and phrases Highlighted in the video: -easier -differently -Where are you from? -quarter -There's no way out Thanks for this content! That was amazing!!!
I agree the most with the final part of the video when Veronica said: "as an adult you have a huge advantage" that's so true!!! As a kid you're are inmature and that don't allow you to be aware of important grammar rules, identify idioms in abstract situations and design an effective and CONSISTENT study plan. I'm not saying that all kids cannot do that 😂 There are lots of quite smart (focused) children but they're not the majority. So I like to think of accents as a fair price you have to pay for the ability of being a more serious learner than kids. It's a fair trade isn't it? 😂
My childhood language is malayu after I learned tamil and now I'm learning English after that I'm going to learn Italian or french language to settle in Switzerland.
He tenido mucha suerte de encontrar tu canal, he estado viviendo en Nueva Zelanda por 1 año y aun tengo problemas para entender a los hablantes nativos, pero con tus consejos estoy seguro de que voy a mejorar mi inglés y mi entendimiento, gracias!

Как же она шикарно изобразила русский акцент... Вначале подумал, что это ее истинное произношение, а потом понял, что она так дразнит русских... Красава!
I’m a native English speaker and I can say that I don’t really detect an accent when you are speaking 🙂 Also, you say the word “quarter” just fine. I know when I say it I don’t really pronounce the letter“T” but instead say it more like “quor-der”. I hope that helps you a little.
This title is misconceived. Everyone has an accent in every language. An accent is merely a way of speaking. Foreign speakers have accents of two sorts: (1) a way of speaking related to a region or group (this is what they share with native speakers) and (2) the influence of their home language and other languages. What marks out foreign speakers is not just the interference from the home language (i.e. Type 2) but also an inconsistent acquisition of the native accent (Type 1), whether in relation to geography, history, cohort, register... But the main takeaway should always be that accents don't especially matter. If you can make yourself understood, you're doing fine. If you're speaking a foreign language, you're awesome. And that's it.
Veronika I have question ?? This question is whats most important think to learning english Speaking Writing Reading Listening Thanks in advance for the reply
Hi, countrymate 👋. I'm pretty strict about my accent. But if i could reach your level it would be more than enough for me. If you had not revealed that you are russian i wouldn't have recognized it at all. That's what i want. That's what I'm trying to reach.
I have English accent like Americans of course i learn from them as for German language i never learn their language i just sound like them when i speak German language, Arab as well and for the Türkic language i know i have Asian heritage but i grow up as Roman
We have an accent when we learn another language because we're used to the one we grew up with and the tendency is to move our mouths as we have done all of our lives. This is why people from other countries have an accent and they learn English. Same dynamic.
Very interesting My teacher says that many students in my country, Greece, for example, they fail to pass Proficiency exams because of their low level in writing essays. This is because the majority of students in Greece take the exams in early age
I'd also like to add to this and say that children in Greece generally aren't great at writing. In Greece most language subjects focus on comprehension rather than production of language.
I don't know if it is because I'm used to talking with non-English natives, but I'm watching this video in the background and I still understand everything you said. I even watched it a second time to double-check that you didn't mess up a word tense or something. Nope, 100 percent accuracy.
Hello Veronika how are you?? I'm from UZBEKISTAN I'm learning English and I saw you your voice is very beautiful you're helping me I like your videos good luck 👍👍👍👍👍
When you try to open the door you never say, "I'm going to raise my hand now, then I'm going to grab the handle and push it, you do this completely automatically because you've done it so many times. I think learning a language is like that." The more you practice, the better you get. After a while, your brain will do everything automatically and eventually you will realize that yes, I can talk now! .let your brain spend some time with your target language. This is exactly what I do to learn English, I think it's the best way ever.
In my opinion, you have an excellent English pronunciation, I'd say is perfect. But Russian is native for me and for you too, and I totally understand you. Native speakers are hard to understand for me yet...
Hii veronika . I am from India . After two days of follow you. Your videos increase my confidence to learn English and speak fluently . Thanks for providing the confidence
When you say stop being afraid of making mistakes, i totally agrre, perfectionism will paralyze you, so starting now will take you there if you work hard with discipline learning with your mistakes
Veronica, you won't believe I've been searching and practising to improve my accent at the same time you've uploaded a super video so now I'm watching don't disturb me to give heart 😂
