Why You Need a Boss DM2 Vintage Analog Delay

Today we'll be specifically answering the question of why you NEED a Boss DM-2 Analog Delay pedal - and I don't care what kind of music you're making - because I'm here to make the case that - first of all - Delay is THE most essential effect out of anything that currently exists. Can we all agree on that? And if you believe that delay is essential, then the only question that remains is "Which vintage analog delay pedal should I get"? If you could only pick out one guitar effects pedal, The Boss DM-2 Delay is that one to reach for. Why? Because of the Bucket Brigade Device or BBD Chip! And what is this Bucket Brigade Device (or BBD) chip inside that creates this distinctive sound? Well, it's an analog circuit-within a circuit all contained within this small chip that's responsible for the delaying of the incoming audio signal. And it's important to note that this chip is actually the main reason why an analog delay could be made to fit into stompbox form. The term “Bucket Brigade” is a reference to a technique used by firefighters to extinguish a fire by passing buckets of water, one by one, down a line. To help explain how delay and BBDs work, let’s stick with this analogy. The water is your incoming guitar signal. The “buckets” come in the form of capacitors inside the chip. These capacitors “carry” the signal down the line much like the buckets carry the water. Because the capacitors are continuously filling and emptying, this slows down or “delays” the signal as it takes more time to pass through the sequence. So, if you're looking for a warm, analog, gritty, earthy, fuzzy, effect, look no further than the Boss DM-2.

The Waza Craft reissue is fully analog, and way cheaper than vintage. Excellent pedal.

@Wilmer Waarbroek hmm, maybe? I've never seen or had a behringer pedal break. i have around 35 of them been using them since 14 years old. If i was rich and famous id probably use Boss though, you're correct. because they just look better. fun fact. Wilco, Mars Volta and other world famous acts HAVE toured with Plastic Behringer Pedals

Original DM-2 with MN3005 is the King. These are getting super rare now. In some cases but a hair, but it’s the King. “Apex of cool….” The new DM2W is great and there are other delays too which are great, but this is where the true magic is at, especially on a record and any signal.

I have the rack unit from the same time frame. Killer! Even has a longer delay capability. Foot switchable as well. Roland/Boss has always been amazing. So much Roland and boss stuff in my collection. I’ve even got a very rare CA40 guitar amp from way way back, which might have been the first solid state guitar amp that sounded great. Yuuuuuup! Why you ask, does it sound so great? Because long before others figured it out, they put FET transistors in their preamp circuits, which makes it overdrive more like a tube amp… and therefor sound awesome. True story of the past and present masters of sound. Roland/Boss! Let’s Rock!!!

I study under the reverb guru on mount Yackity Smackity, personally. Which is just across the river hiss, from mount Compression, where they keep it level at all times, Baby. Now you may say, “Don’t call me Baby”, to which I would say… The most important effect is the believability of a great performance. Cheers

I agree, the Waza Craft series is a great re-issue of some aging analog Boss pedals. But ironically, the analog BBD technology is closer to digital than one might think. It chops the incoming sound into slices (samples) that are transferred from one transistor/capacitor to the next, hence the "bucket brigade" name. The slight degradation in sound comes from the fact that the "samples" aren't stored digitally in memory, but rather in analog form in capacitors. Also, high-frequency audio content has to be heavily filtered not to cause aliasing, much the same way as early digital limited frequency samplers did.

Nice Space Echo! Is is 101 or 150? Ive had a few different ones and liked the 150 best because it has a secret function the others don't that is really useful for digital/analog hybrid setups. Im glad to see you are getting more stuff! My favorite Boss pedal is the original VB2, though im sure the new ones are just as good.
@dreammachine432
@dreammachine432 Год назад
It's an RE-150, what secret function?!?!. Love the VB2!!!
@christopherJSmokeandMirrors
@@dreammachine432 Ah, well, more like a "feature" than a secret but, the 150 is the only one of the 101/150/201 that has a direct out and dedicated effected out. So, if you have a digital thing or whatever, put it through the 150, taking only the wet output and setting it to a single repeat. So basically filtering it down. How long you set the repeat then, will be your control over how "lo fi" the effect is. The same thing works with analog delays, as long as it can be set to 100 percent wet, or has a dedicated wet signal output, like the 150. So, as I said, more of a technique than a secret but the word "secret" rules.
