I'm 47 and in Perimenopause. I have noticed a great improvement in my mood and energy levels since doing the following: Taking a supplement (Calcium/Magnesium /Vit D/Zinc), reducing caffeine, reducing sugar, and I'm on Iron due to low Iron stores and I really am noticing a difference. The fatigue and apathy was horrendous, hot flushes were getting stronger. Now my depression and apathy have gone, have more energy and my hot flushes have reduced in intensity 😊

Hi everyone.Iam now postmenopause by about 3 years i have gone through all the symtoms you can think of in that time hot and cold flushes the cold were for me worse i would shiver and be cold to the bone freezing i enjoyed the heat wave this year.Stomach problems which are still on going bloating was the worst but its getting better.i can see some light at the end of the tonel what with low mood loss of self confidence the list as you all know go's on,beginning to feel a bit better and i have got some attitude back guess that must be the left over testosterone it feels good,only thing is with me its and still is muscle stiffness /cramps/spasms ...mainly in my back it feels like a squeezing sensation the latest is my throat i have spasms and it is hard to swallow if stay relaxed it soon passes but i did panic with the first ever one.Ihave just discovered Aileen and i wish i found her sooner a great help to us all at a very important time of our lives.Thankyou.
@AvogelCoUk
@AvogelCoUk 5 лет назад
Hi Margaret - Glad to be of help! Have you tried a magnesium supplement for the muscle stiffness, 200mg once or twice a day can often be beneficial and this can also help with mood and sleep. Passiflora Complex may also help with the throat spasming - remember to drink lots of water as dehydration can be a factor here too.

Snap, I am about 3 1/2 years post menopause and have been through the lot! But funny enough this end of the 2 year mark. I have had really frightening rib spasms both front and back, tightening and feels like I cant expand my ribs. Some times like you, in my throat also. Other times I experience heart pulpitations which are very frightening. I get Steaming hot dizzy sensation comes over me and then I shivering. Also, trying to sleep is a night mere, I go off to sleep and then wake up and cant go back. My digestion is all over the place. I have read else where that I should be through the menopause symptoms by now! Ha!... I am so glad I have read your comments as I am at my wits end with it, I am trying Magnesium and other supplements, I have away eaten a healthy vegetarian/plant based diet, nutrition dense, so shouldn't be a problem but obviously is, yes thank goodness for Aileen X

I love magnesium citrate for the mental clarity it seems to give, but I worry it causes my muscles to cramp. It shouldn’t, but I think the diarrhea it can cause makes me dehydrated, causing tight muscles. I wouldn’t think 200 mg would do this.
@AvogelCoUk

Sad that I went through menopause at 42- 43......not one doctor told me what could be wrong with me! My period was always off & on for years. I had no idea what was wrong.......I went to many Psychs, counselors thinking I was losing my mind. I had road rage, I felt like ripping my hair out, hot flashes all day, my bra or tight clothing made me nuts!! I think I had a nervous breakdown.......I've never been the same. Most everyone just said it was all in my head, I was paranoid, I WAS the problem.

Hi Maye I would suggest an amino acid chelated magnesium such as magnesium glycinate - your local health shop should be able to help with this. If you find these difficult to source then go for a magnesium citrate, approx. 150mg twice a day

Hello, just on your comment about taking magnesium with heart medication. I’m on propanalol which is a beater blocker and I was just wondering if it is ok to take magnesium with this. Also I’ve just picked up some magnesium from Tesco’s and it says it is magnesium 375mg and vitamin B6 supplement. Will this be ok, or should I look for a better quality magnesium tablet. I’m going through an early perimenopause and I really want to start taking magnesium to combat all the food cravings I am getting. Thank you 😊
@AvogelCoUk
@AvogelCoUk 4 года назад
Hi Magnesium should be fine but it is best to start at a low dose and work your way up. I would suggest putting the one you have got to one side for the moment and start on 100mg of magnesium citrate, try this for 2 weeks then increase to 100mg twice a day for another 2 weeks or so then try the 375mg (just check what kind of magnesium it is as some are not very absorbable). I would also let your doctor know you are taking it the next time you see them. Magnesium is also good for the heart so may also be of benefit that way too!
