Nick, thanks for your great content. Consider becoming known for everything related to leather, such as shoes, sneakers, wallets, bags, and the like. Your boot reviews are excellent. Have a healthy and successful new year.
I wanted to simplify my work bag and went with the Satchel and Page map case. If you want a super simple bag that feels great this perfect. The mail bag is still on my grail list to purchase one day and I hope that day comes soon. Thanks for the review.
My first Satchel and Page product was the moleskin notebook cover (my wife gifted me for my birthday). Shortly after I bought a briefcase, dopp kit and recently the waxed flesh trucker jacket, the camera bag and the Gladstone bag. All their products turn heads everywhere I use them. I think the Gladstone is probably my favorite (if I had to only choose one) and my diplomat briefcase a close second as far as bags go. The jacket is unbelievable, it's so unique looking, hefty and well built I absolutely love it!
Yooo! I can totally see falling in love with this brand and only buying their stuff! I wish their leather jacket was veg tanned too but it's partly bit chrome tanned. The waxed flesh jacket looks badass! I always wondered if I'd get annoyed with those buttons but I'm sure it's worth it. It's surprising more companies don't do waxed flesh jackets!
@@Stridewise You can easily break a sweat trying to button all those buttons up. I live in TX so we hardly have harsh weather and just a flannel shirt or sweater underneath is all I ever need really. I'm a fairly bulky guy (5'9" 190lbs) and I was a bit intimidated by their fit description. I went back and forth with S&P and we decided the XL would fit me well and they nailed it. I had my tailor cut off about 2" off the sleeves (we expected it would be necessary) and the jacket fits me perfectly! It's by far my favorite piece in my wardrobe!
I bought this based on your review 3 years ago. Heavy use since. Everything you said is true and I’m happy with it and get occasional compliments. A few more added cons to be aware of: leather bottom, no studs like Counselor bag. So not ideal for setting on sidewalk, rough ground. And it doesn’t stand up. Tips over. I set on a chair or lean it against something.
Excellent review! I have their Weekender, their Journal and their Dopp Kit and they are all very impressive! I've evolved from Saddleback to Jackson Wayne and now to Satchel & Page. All good quality, just a bit different. S&P just has a little more. Beautiful appearance, look and feel. Impressive.
I totally agree! Jackson Wayne is ALWAYS sold out, I'd consider reviewing them though. I know what you mean how all these companies are good, but S&P "just has a little more." Hard to put into words, but this bag...
Superb review as usual Nick..!! I'm debating this one in the slim version or the Cravar FC....but this does just look stunning 😍 and they do a weekend bag that would match..!!! You're costing me money as I got the Redwings because of your reviews 🤣🤣🤣👍
I bought the bomber jacket and weekender bag a couple of years ago based on Carl M’s reviews. Both are incredible pieces. I had a fit issue with the jacket and found the customer service to be very responsive and accommodating. Really impressive company imo
Omg nick, thank you. Ive been looking at this bag for awhile and no one has done a review on it. I was torn between the Cravar Fox bag and this, but i think I may go with this now.
I don't understand the fascination with this brand. It DOES look pretty, but I bought their executive bag recently and it's garbage. I don't feel like I got ripped off exactly, but I do feel like I barely got what I paid for, no more, no less. I've had it for a few months and it's already falling apart with light, light usage (I carry it from my house, into my car, into the office, and back. It's not getting thrown around.) This idea that they're some bargain heirloom quality is just not true. This thing will probably last a few years, which is fine, but if anyone else is on the fence I'd advise you not to. Just another internet hype brand selling a subpar product. I really, really wanted to like them because their stuff is beautiful, but it's just trash. Maybe the unlined bags like the mailbag are different, but buyer beware. (Also, if you DO buy one - condition it IMMEDIATELY. I didn't, it was in a drizzle for about 15 seconds, and now it's permanently water spotted. Again - trash.)(Just updating this to add that, after only six months of part-time use, the interior stitching has now started to come undone. I'm amending my earlier statement - definitely a rip off that should be avoided.)
I bought a different Sachel and Page bag based on Carl Murowski reviews and it is superb quality; however the design of this one would have been better for me, this looks ideal!
I watched this video and Cravar"s, so, which would you recommend for a 24 yo in NYC (laptop sleeve I think is needed)? Thanks...Love your boot videos and bought a pair of Thursday on your recommendation...love them!!
A couple of years later and I finally bought the bag. Its beautiful. The leather is so nice and the style is top notch. There is one problem and it drives me NUTS that Nick didn't mention it under the cons. I detest the handle not being on the top of the bag. I love the look and style, but carrying it by the handle, the bag always feels lopsided. Not sure that breaking it in will even help with that. I never would've anticipated that the handle placement could so adversely affect my enjoyment of a well-constructed bag. It's so bad, I am looking to sell it or give it as a gift to someone that wont be driven crazy by this fatal flaw. But man the leather is nice.
It is not “exceedingly rare” to find veg tan leather. There are three well know tanneries in the US; Horween, Wicked & Craig and SB Foot who all make veg tan leather and their hides are readily available.
I’m torn between this and the Cravar FC 15 that you reviewed. I’m a teacher and will be using it for laptop, class papers, iPad, phone, pens/pencils and maybe a calculator. Can you offer any advice? Thanks.
Do you find the buckle annoying to fasten/unfasten every time you use the bag? Also, with the closure mechanism only being in the middle of the bag, do the sides of the main flap bend upward at all?
They don't bend, no. The buckle is a bit more annoying than the stud closure on my cravar, but it does make it look more classic, so it's up to you what you prefer.
@@Stridewise Hmm. Honestly the buckle is a huge turn off to me (one of the only of this bag) and I wish it was like some sort of tuck/push lock mechanism. I wonder if it would be too crazy to have a leatherwork professional add one in
@@pchoisauce No not at all! It'd be super easy to do. Maybe you could even ask satchel & page to do it for you, though if they did they'd prob charge more than a leatherworker would to change it
I’m between the mailbag and the nutsac jones 15. I like the less boxy shape of this but the jones also has more simple pockets and canvas interior. Idk which one is nicer but this is a true leather company. I assume the quality and value of this is better but I’m curious what your opinion is. Both are priced similarly
Honestly I don't love the design of Nutsac's, Matthew, that wide-ish stud closure belt thing is not my favorite. It's also not wholly vegetable tanned like Satchel & Page's!
Thanks for the reply, that’s what I’m leaning towards. Do you have the Slim or the full size? I’m not sure if the larger one would be too bulky looking.
I bought an attaché from satchel and page and had few minor issues. Rivets holding the handle came off within 2 months. Laptop strap closure is shorter and wouldn’t close when I have a 13” MacBook. S&P sent me a longer closure strap and asked me to repair myself (I live in Asia). Other than these minor glitches absolutely fantastic leather. I got their brown leather belt and keeper/loop fell somewhere when I was wearing it, once again due to rivets fell off. Since then I have sent several emails with poor or no response from their customer care. Go with established brands like Filson or saddleback.
Have been looking for one leather bag to be the one and only I buy ever but man there are just so many and you seem to really love most of them! Lol I’m sure I’m not the only one that would love a comparison of the good ones at least. Great video man, take it easy!
Thanks Carlos! I've looked at the bags from Satchel & Page, Filson, Cravar, Kodiak, Beckett Simonon, and WP Standard. I think Cravar and Satchel & Page are my favorites
@@Stridewise yeah I’ve been eyeing both, I like the rana from cravar and the satchel and Paige. Thanks man, I’ve told you on IG man, love the content, keep it up and happy new year!
@@Stridewise With the leather being as tough and thick as it is, it would have taken years for the leather to break in and have that supple hand feel. I preferred the suede finish of the founder. ps: love your YT content and the recent colabs with Anvil.
The leather looks quite nice. I'd give it a second look if the hardware were nickel-plated brass instead of antiqued brass, and no logos. And I really don't appreciate the cheap reappropriation of "Satchel Paige" by this brand.
