Hey brother, I bought a 2003 FZ1 around Christmas’23. Barn findish. Guy had it 10 years, garage/shed kept. He decided to sell; put it in the shop to get it ready. $3000.00 later it’s ready and his wife was on his ass. I picked it up for $2800 bucks, I’ve put another $2500 into it; Quick shifter, 50mm lowering kit/custom pegs, bar end mirrors, 2 inch bar risers, custom built seat with several “fittings” before it was done, new chain and sprockets and I think that’s it. Bottomline, this FZ will be passed on along with my fully customized wr250r in my Will. (If there’s anything left of them!)
You sound like me pops. I'm nearly 60 and I put 60k on my gen 1 2003 fz1. I'm thinking about picking up the gen 2 now for another 10 years of awesomeness.
@@nurzrachit7133 I hope you do, brother! I turn 70 in a few months and the cardiologist wants to put in a pacemaker. I bought a pair of roller skates instead. There’s a lot of Kings but when you pass 60 we move into Emperors. But only if we earn it and keep earning it. Get some✔️
@@grimsmotovlogs369 A little over 10,000 miles. Unfortunately, I live VERY close to work. 😉 The quality of this Yamaha just oozes throughout though - it is no wonder at all that the Yamaha symbol is three Tuning Forks as this bike is - truly - a musical instrument.😎👍
I own a 2009 96 thousand miles on her. Live in north jersey. Been to the Great lakes down to north Carolina tail of the dragon. This bike has never broken down or given me any problems at all. I'm putting Ohlins shock on the rear and cartridges in the front. Was going to get an MT 10. But I love my bike I'm going to see how far it will go. I'm 63 I absolutely love this bike.
I love hearing these stories! Especially with how many miles you have. The MT10 would be awesome I feel, But its gotta be hard to get rid of your baby.
Agree'd. I went from a Grom to a Fazer 1000 and it was cheaper than all the 600s I initially priced up. In bike cost & insurance, insurance was a third of the cost. (UK Based)
I picked up a 2007 Fz1 that was in excellent condition for $3500 with only 6,500 miles on it! I done a lot of research about this bike before and after purchasing it. I get all factory Yamaha parts from Partszilla, less $ than the stealership. I do all of my own mechanic work on it. Only real notable job I’ve performed on it was replacing the rotor in the motor. I installed the upgraded part in it, that doesn’t have the magnets glued in to possibly take the motor out. The one I installed had magnets sandwiched between two solid layers of metal. Already had power commander 5 in it. Servo and cat delete, K+N air filter. I got lucky and found a shorty clutch lever and matching brake lever both for $150, instead of $300 and they are sweet! I only use two fingers on clutch lever, to keep a grip on the bars at the same time. That’s what I did back in my motocross days. Been thinking of taking off all the painted parts to do a candy apple red paint job.
Sounds like you may have found yourself the best find of the year! Congrats on your new purchase! I love using partzilla, they have the best prices online for OE parts! The Candy Apple Red would be delicious!
Ive owned many bikes in my 30+ years of riding. My ‘07 FZ1 is BY FAR the best bike Ive ever ridden. They are the best kept secret in the moto world. I will never sell mine. Ever.
Love my 2012. Absolutely must upgrade the rotor, don’t wait for it to grenade. I geared mine pretty high so I can get to the speed limit in first alone anywhere in CA. As funny as it sounds they are sneaky fast. It’s the flat bar that throws people off and the more upright position.
I picked up my 2009 fz6 a couple months ago and i love it so much. I got it from a couple that was selling their motorcycles. The guy had a fz1 and i wish i was ready for a 1000cc. He only wanted 800$ more than the fz6 for the fz1.
I have owned my 2007 fz1s from new, great bike, I swapped out the rotor with the new updated Yamaha version for piece of mind, very fast, handles great, license loser, under 5000rpm docile, after 6000rpm rocket.
Thinking about picking one up with 42k on the clock it looks like it has been really been cared for should I be concerned about high mileage bikes I'm so use to super low miles machines like sub 5k bikes, im also fairly confident on whipping out the old tool box from time to time 🤣
Most would say that's nothing for these bikes, if its been maintained properly. I'm like you when it comes to buying higher mileage bikes, but if they're known for reliability I wouldn't be too concerned. I also wouldn't be paying too much for it though. If you haven't checked out my "before you buy" video of the FZ1, there are a couple things to ask about and look for, when you go to look at. How is the condition of it and what's the asking price?
@grimsmotovlogs369 thanks for the response, conditions looks amazing it has been well taken care of and lots of work been done over the years also there are lots documents and receipts it had a major service a few years ago including the rotor replaced, I'll check out your clip out, also asking price is 3,485 USD but will be negotiating for hopefully a quick and easy sale
sorry it took so long to get back this time. But that sounds like you may have found a pretty well off bike! Did you end up getting it since? And did you talk them down?
@grimsmotovlogs369 no worries at all bud, yeah I managed to work out a deal so got a few hundred pounds off and some extras thrown in, I'm slowly bonding with the bike as this is my 1st litre machine, I'm trying to decide if I should do the fz1-n front conversion 😂
I battled the same question when I bought my fz1, eBay has fz1-n conversion kits. I bought one and have yet to put it on because the front plastics with windshield grew on me, both in looks and functionality. Congrats though on the new machine! I hope you're enjoying the liter bike experience!
beware 2006 to 2008 models the main weld on the frame can crack in half ! , 2006 to 2015 models they have shitty rotors around the flywheel with glued in magnets that will detatch and throw the magnets in your engine and trash it , i love the bike but didnt like riding a ticking time bomb real shame yamaha never did a recall especially for the cracking frames -_- wich is just criminal imo
The number one reason is a stulid one in my opinion, ure essentially saying thats the most important factor, bc u put it at number 1. Power shouldnt be #1, its misleading to young inexperienced riders
Well, I don't recommend an FZ1 to young and inexperienced riders. And for seasoned and experienced riders, power is important. My list had no particular order, but power, I'd say, is still number one, if I had to rank them. Why would you want a big, slow, heavy bike? I had one, and sold it after a month. hahaha (see my GL1800, Why I sold after a month video) I value your opinion and I think we actually agree with each other. I recommend slower, smaller, and lighter bikes to new and inexperienced riders, but people are going to do what they want. I know when I bought my first bike, Power is what I was looking for. I started on a 600 sportbike.
