So cool. As an American who's been to Belgrade 3 times, this was fun to watch. I've been to all of these places, and can't wait to go back. Hvala! Ciao!
You convinced me to visit Belgrade. I was intending to visit just Sofia, but now I included Belgrade and Bucharest to the trip. I like to see how Serbians are proud of their country.
I took the same tour while in Belgrade yet my tour guide had a great personality. Belgrade has a lot interesting things, I look forward to my next trip to Serbia.
Belgrade was great for us. We even decided to stay longer then we had planned at first and still didn't do everything we wanted to.:) Such a good experience. -Ash
wooooow I am the first!! 😊 Guys, you are amazing. so happy and positive all the time. But I still can't believe how I found you. Few hours ago I was looking for some guides for Amsterdam and I really liked you that I start browsing through videos and saw you were in my home town - BELGRADE!!! I hope you are having a lot of fun here. 😊😊😊
+Ivka61 Thats so awesome. I'm happy to see you liked our Amsterdam video and decided to check us out. We are really loving Belgrade. Actually we like it so much decided to stay a week longer. Let us know if you wanna meet up for a coffee or smoething. Our favorite part is hanging out with locals.:) Welcome to the WayFam!!!:) -Ash
That is populistic believe. CCCC is actually stylized cyrillic VVVV, which are first letters of Byzantine emperor moto in Serbian- Ruler of Rulers Rules the Rulers. Vladar Vladara Vlada Vladarima. As a crest came to Serbian by marriages of ruling families.
I saw your a time ago and decided to go to Belgrade. I just got back home. The city is amazing and I alson tried the walking tours. Keep posting new videos
Hi Ash, I agree. I wish I did that tour much earlier. I spent 4 days in Belgrade and did the tour on my last day. They had other tours that interest me, however just because I needed some time to settle in I did this one. I enjoyed it a lot.
im living since 5 years in Serbia, im 1.83 meters and i still find myself small compared to the average height here. if you go outside of the city the people seem to be even bigger lol
Hi Josh, here are your C's, that are in fact S's: Only Unity Saves the Serb (Serbian: *Samo sloga Srbina spasava*, Само слога Србина спасава) is an unofficial motto used in Serbia and a popular slogan among Serbs, often used as a rallying call against foreign domination and during times of national crisis. The phrase is an interpretation of what is taken to be *four Cyrillic letters for "S" (written С) on the Serbian cross.*
The bad thing about this video is that you are stereotyping us. You are saying that "Four Cs" are a Serbian nationalist symbol across the Balkans. That is very, very false and misleading. Those four letters (Four S's in Cyrillic) are Serbian coat of arms from 1000 years ago, the meaning given to four letters is "Only unity can save a Serb". So it is national, not nationalistic. You should stop using the word nationalistic every time something Serbian & national is concerned. Also, you were wrong about the building that is 250 years old (which is also a probable mistake). There was no Austro-Hungarian architecture in the old Belgrade at that time, what you are showing is a piece of typical Balkan architecture before Central European architecture took over, with typical roof bricks called Ćeramida, you recorded a great example of what it really looks like.
@Predrag Jovanovic i must inform you that is Serb symbol from Vinca. Meaning "Only unity save Serbs" was added later and Byzantine took that symbol for themselves.
I love free walking tours.. I was just thinking of the name Drazen Petrovic the other day (basketball player who died in a car accident in the 90s) and then I hear your guide mention it's the most common surname. Do you ask their permission to film the tours or you just kind of film a few times?
We always let the guide know what we do and we always send them the link after. It has worked out really well for us because they then post our videos on their social media sites. We have made great friends this way. -Ash
That sign with a cross and "CCCC" in Cyrillic is from Bysantin time. But we modifed it and it means in Serbian "Only united Serbs will survive". Its our slogan cause we are always arguing between ourselves. We are never united. For example one half is for EU other is for Russia. And everyone think they know whats the best for us. Also there is national hi ( 3 fingers ). Those three fingers represent Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. :)
wow an advice from a Bulgarian - when you are in the Balkans neever I repeat never say that we all speak the same language :D :D people here tend to get really upset about things like that even if they are true
The 4 "Cs " (Ss in Cyrillic) is not a symbol of Serbian "nationalism", it's simply a national symbol which has been on the flag of Serbian aristocracy for thousand years.
The cross with four C letters (S) originates from Byzantine empire (Palaiologos dinasty). Byzantine version has 4 Bs. It was copied in medieval times and ended up as one of national symbols. "Samo sloga srbina spasava" is modern term that people tend to connect with the symbol.
Hi. Did you see any black people in Belgrade. I really love the pictures of Serbia and the Balkans in general but in worried about any prejudice or racism I might receive there
Hi +Abubakar El-nafaty I can't honestly answer this question because I was not looking out and wouldn't have noticed. We have a vlogger friend who lives there. Her channel is JessOnAQuest. I would say to ask her. She could give you a better answer then I can. -Ash
u have some students and football and basketball players even there is one black man in military academy....you wont have problems,no worries. the truth is that serbia is not mixed like western is and u cant see it trought peoples surnames most of them end on "ić"...sorry for eng not great
+Abubakar El-nafaty Hello! I just wanted to give you some information about Serbia haha. A study just came out from Harvard showing that Serbia shows the least amount of racism in Europe! I link the study in this comment. Also, check out a youtuber called Charles Cather! He was an american who wanted to visit serbia for 1 month.. He ended up loving it so much that he lived there for I think it was 6 years!!! He also has videos of his black friends opinions of serbia! metro.co.uk/2017/05/03/this-map-shows-the-most-racist-countries-in-europe-and-how-britain-ranks-6612608/
MLSGaming001 haha! Thanks alot! I did my own research too and came to the same conclusion. I have spoken to multiple people across various ethnicities who have had nothing but good things to say about the Balkans and Serbia in particular. Great place, beautiful people and amazing food is what I've been told to expect. I'm hoping to go there at the beginning of 2018. Thanks for sharing!
180lbs Honestly im not so much into history but they say that there is a lot of interesting history in belgrade. You've got the Tesla museum, Teslas personal items and work were shipped to Belgrade after his death by his relative... and etc. I just go there for nice atmosphere, cheap food and drinks. Its so easy to make friends there. I have more friends there than i do in Sweden (I live in sweden, im 23yo). When i was single... i went there to meed girls... Oh the good ol'days.. Also that i have an almost perfect American accent makes me irresistible xD I was sick ones... I went to the hospital... got to skip a huge line in the ER and get help straight away..(very unfair to the residents xD). Because i didnt have insurance there i had to pay it cash to see 2 specialists, i had to pay a whooping 800rsd. Which is less than 10 dollars x'D Everything is so cheap.. Im planing on going summer time and stay for 3 weeks. I could barely get rid of 1000$ last time i stayed for 4 weeks. If you plan on shopping then yes you could spend allot more but i dont care for shopping that much. In Kraljevo they have the biggest piazza or farmers market or whatever its called. All sorts of crazy stuff is sold there and for even cheaper than store price. You can buy food, clothes, knifes (maybe even guns if u find the right person), electronics, car parts, construction supplies... I made a little Vlog while i was there in Kraljevo during the summer... I just havent published it because it feels stupid and retarded that i would film myself. It was awkward to do so in public so i kept it to a minimal... Might publish it today since i did like editing it. OK im going to shut up now...
samo sloga srbina spasava, only unity serbs' savior.... NOTHING TO DO with NATIONALISM, forget bout these nationalism shit, americans are nationalists we aren't! dot
