The mere fact that you reiterated throughout the video that no one should dive alone earns you my maximum respect. We commend and appreciate the fact that you took time out to educate us of the 'do's and dont's' when fishing. Thank you, Sir!
We all learn from our mistakes, glad you showed this video. We all get excited when we see an opportunity like this. I had a situation when I was fishing by myself 20 miles off shore of Ft Lauderdale. My rod went off that was high up in the t-top and I had the boat still at trolling speed and tried to use both hands to pull the rod out, I then lost m balance and almost fell in the water. I was by myself and I would have never been able to catch up to the boat. I made a big mistake and I learned a good lesson that day.
Hey, don't feel bad. You did a good thing posting this. People have to be aware of the dangers and thankfully you weren't hurt. Takes a real man to admit when he made a mistake, so respect to you for that.
Thank you for this. 1) Never purposely get in the water when you are alone. Currents can take your boat farther than even Michael Phelps can swim. 2) Wear your engine cutoff lanyard. 3) Always wear your life vest WITH communication device. I do all of these things and MOST captains do not. If we could predict when accidents will happen, we'd never have accidents. When solo, I am dressed and prepared for a dip in the water in case that happens. If I have friends onboard, fine, boat naked.
those are good habits! I've been on the ocean since I could walk. have seen most things go wrong that could. was reluctant to share this video but hopefully one person will learn from it! thanks for taking the time to watch and share!
You seem like a really humble dude, willing to show ypur mistakes for people to learn from. I look forward to heading to Florida in the next year or 2 and hopefully get out with ya! 🇨🇦🤙🇨🇦
You absolutely did the right thing sharing this video! Not sharing would be worse than diving alone! You bringing awareness that even an experienced lifelong seaman is human an can compromise his better judgment when tempting circumstances present themselves! You have chosen to man up an show first hand how it happened and why to never dive alone! We may never know this video save others lives. However i am positive anyone seeing it will remember when they consider diving alone "Don't Dive Alone" if you want to live! I admire you! You are a good man who will live a long life of many more adventures!
Awesome Aaron keep it real! Takes a real person to admit something they did wrong and owning it but on this platform now a days tons of people learned from what you did so job well done on posting the video!
This is real life. Thank you for sharing this with us. I know it was a very hard decision to make, but it was the right one. It's educational to see the possible consequences of diving alone.
Really glad you posted this...such a great learning tool for new guys like me. We all make mistakes or have poor judgment sometimes. It is great to use those instances as learning tools. For someone new like me, Im reading all these comments and learning even more. Great stuff.
One of the reason our family loves your video's you are straightforward & responsible. You take accountability for actions which is : respectful! We all need to keep in mind boating fishing and diving in mind and some times these video's reminds us to be careful.....Than, you
Good Job! I am glad that you made it clear about diving safety. This will hopefully instill in everyone’s mind how making a mistake could create a dangerous situation. Keep up the videos. I watch Blue Gab and his brother Robs Deermeat for Dinner all the time.
great video ! a friend of mine just asked me why i dont go for spearfishing and i said because im by myself, im alone ... minutes later your video came so i could show him (i couldnt believe as i read the title ) , its very sad how small the mahi got and how hard it is to come by a nice bull ... ( something has to be done ! ) . great job finding it and getting it done . love your channel
I work on the water everyday. I am 59 now and have worked in and on the water for 40 years now. The last ten years I have had to work by myself , however we use a buddy system. Always use a buddy system Great to watch your channel enjoy the blue.
I will watch the failures to learn and watch the wins and celebrate. You're willing to teach others what you know and you don't hide anything from it. We are all human and we've all failed at something in life. There's lots of reasons for me to enjoy watching your channel. I'll add that I also shared your channel with many people. Beautiful fish and the sandwich is similar to the way I prefer to make mine. Keep amazing us and teaching us how to get er done!!!
That was super sketchy but I loved every minute of it I have the same addiction as you used to be a skin puller I am no longer my cousin and I did a little experiment this summer on vacation down there and they ordered more meat due to the area on the bottom of the fillet that always gets ripped off keep up the great work!!! 🤙🏽
Says there's a decent sized bull swimming around, then says I'm going to jump in..... that was real close to being a " Here hold my beer, hey everybody, watch this!" moment. Glad everything worked out. 👍
Lost a friend spear fishing in the GOM out of Port A, had his spear line tied off to his diving belt. Found him a few days later still attached to the fish. He was alone as well.
Thanks for sharing Aaron. Those of us that spear fish have been in that same situation and usually nothing happens but once and awhile the tax man shows up. I'm usually the last person out of the water and have had a couple of close calls.
I would never shoot that beautiful fish. I have speared lots of fish. there are schools of large perch and other schooling fish. One small fish is enough for my sons and me. Do whatever you want.
I appreciate your honesty in sharing your mistake. Similar to your video driving through a waterspout. Lol Sometimes our sense of adventure puts us on the edge of catastrophic results. I enjoy your videos very much so keep'em coming. It teaches everyone that remaining calm will get you out of that situation. But most importantly you show the respect people should have for the ocean and its habitat. That Bull was at home and you came in and took his lunch! 😆 keep up the good work and always stay safe m
haha amen to that, I really appreciate the feedback! just trying to enjoy my time here and take a few of y'all along for the ride! do my best to be honest and keep it real when I can! thanks for watching and taking the time to share!
Only ocean fish I ever caught was a mahi mahi (dorado). Took a bit to get her into the boat. The captain was a friend of mine. When we got back to the dock, he cleaned it for me and cut me off a slice to eat right there and it was pretty tasty. Freshest sushi I've ever had.
Love this channel ! Military brat here. Back 1979-81 I was in high school there in Key West. We lived in military housing off the causeway behind blue lagoon, (don’t know if it’s still there lol). Any way, I had a regular dive buddy, but once in awhile I put in solo as I had a canal and dock in back yard. While snorkeling with a 3 prong Hawaii Sling , I spotted huge mangrove snapper. It was perfect set up for my gear, right on the bottom, so I would be able to pin it to bottom after strike. 3 prong thing ya know,, I dove down focused totally on it, Aimed, released, Glanced off its side knocking off scales. Damn, I looked up, there was a cuda , looked to be as long as me ! He was surly watching same fish and I felt if I’d had a good hit, we may have been in a battle for same fish. Not that I’d fought with him lol. It actually surprised me so much and I’d never seen one so big, including the 30 lb one my neighbor caught. This looked twice that. Anyway, I was still a newbie and I practically Walked on water getting back to shore, not far away Lol. Anyway valuable Lesson Learned ! Again this channel brings back Memories 👍👍
I've been diving over thirty years and over that course that God I didn't have a camera on me. I don't personally know anyone who has a history of diving hasn't been there. Great video, keep it real my friend.
💯Great video, sitting here in the mountains enjoying your videos, when you finally got that fish, i said man hopefully the grey suit tax collector's are busy else where and the long behold one pops out, great video footage! Also unfortunately some of us dont have dive buddies and live a solo life, i am guilty of it, a lot of us Spearo's all do it one time or another, if you dive alone always have multiple back up safety plans! As for myself , i gave up diving 32 years ago and now said screw it and decided to get back into it because i miss everything about it , my younger years it was the ocean and now my older years it's going to be the lakes in the mountains! Definitely going to be interesting for sure...🐾🐾🐾🔱☠️ SEMPER Fi God Speed! 🖖 Keep up the awesome video's , Ike Jime those fish, it definitely makes a difference for sure.
I appreciate the public service announcement about the dangers of diving alone. Lost a few friends to this over they years. They were very experienced divers, got in a situation they could not handle, and their story ended too soon. Glad you saw the danger and managed to get clear of your new finned friend. Cheers!
Obviously very glad nothing bad happened and I really appreciate your honesty and humility regarding a bad decision and really stressing not to make this mistake. Good Luck to you.
Thanks for takin me out there with you. Live in Miami and loved fishing as a kid, but don't go out as much anymore. Appreciate the footage and insight. Cheers man!
Holy Moly ! Aaron, I/we know that you’re greatly experienced, but anytime you play stupid games you sometimes win stupid prizes ! I’m 69 now n I also used to live by the old verbiage of, “Safety Third”, don’t know how I ever made this far !! Take Care My Friend ! ,
Thanks for leaving a few in the water for the rest of us !! Up here in Ft Pierce we used to get some big Bull Dolphin rolling through. Not so much anymore. Dade and Broward county are taking everything including shorts.
I sincerely appreciate your video. I understand your concern and your desire / deportment in so many matters, ie., not taking too many fish, etc. I’d love to meet you. Still, please consider releasing a video that tells exactly why diving alone is a bad decision and specifically the things that occurred on your dive that could have been disastrous. I’m sure that the poor shot placement on the fish was the smallest concern. I personally think boating alone is a big mistake. Overall, I love that you are a thinker; you are a man that does things based on what you have considered rather than by habit or the predominant thoughts of others. Your deportment is that of a leader. People will listen and often follow you because of that. Im thrilled your video did not end in disaster, and I’m very glad you are a RU-vid provider of content! Blessings!
really do appreciate the kind words! I try to be educational as often as I can. no-one is always right, but I have learned alot in my short time here, mainly through my mistakes so Im happy to share them when I can! really appreciate you watching and taking the time to share!
Great video! This my 1st time coming across your channel dude you're a mad man haha holy shit! You got yourself a new subscriber! That Mahi looked amazing! Glad you were able to enjoy that tasty meal safe and sound!
Almost everytime I dive alone, I encounter some sort of trouble. I agree Man, don't dive alone It has been my number one rule too for my whole life, someone has to watch your back. BTW, I like your honesty, I think a warning to new divers goes a long way
My dad was into spear fishing and even tho he had a partner he still sometimes lost fish to sharks and had close calls...His friend ended up getting a bang stick but never had to use it. Tho they were not out in open ocean, they were out from Sebastian Inlet where the banana river and indian river had merged and went back out to sea. We also were a nesting area for sea turtles (if you lived on the beach you cudnt have certain type lights that faced the ocean as it confused the hatch-lings from following the moon into the sea) so we had tigers outside the inlet, and bulls inside and outside the inlet, also black tips, and the normal non aggressive sharks like sand tiger , and nurses. I dont know if bang sticks are still legal but if they are not, and you keep diving by urself you shud get one...All it takes is a nicked artery and ur BP drops b4 you can tie it off and notify coast guard, depending how fast it drops will cause you to pass out and without pressure on the opening ull be a done deal....Mahi is my fav fish too, has texture like a steak. Do you eat shark? Even after soaking in milk overnight I cant get the funk out of the steaks...
I am very familiar I grew up in brevard county! and I have eaten shark but its been a very long time. I have my pick of fresh fish doing what I do for a living so I haven't tried it in a while!
@@KeyWestWaterman yes brevard county! but ur in the keys now I hopeo be able to afford just something near key west as i loved free diving there at one time there used to be a Great Hammerhead that stayed in the area not sure if she is still alive or not tho
..i dove alone 90% of all my diving for over 20 years. over thousands of days of diving-spearfishing. and i know many other divers that did . i dont think its a problem. its a personal choice. just like climbing a mountain by yourself.
As a captain and guide, hats off to you my friend! Epic content and ethical education you give people foreign to what we do!! Cheers brother!! Tight lines, and happy hunting
Greet advice. It’s amazing how many don’t even carry an EPIRB on board or PLB. These life savers have become so cheap! EPIRBS use to cost, on adjusted dollars close to $3000, now a couple of hundred. And it’s great that you DID share this.
Love that you keep it real every video...i cringed when you jumped and then that shark showed up....dang dude glad it worked out and your safe...good educational video...
We brought the fish to the hotel he had the chef cook for us at dinner fed 20 people .loved how he cooked and can’t wait to hear you’re recipes . I live in Jersey catch tons of stripers my favorite is strip bas oreganatti it’s a breaded striper . Fantastic
Ya I get it I used to dive alone along the north coast of California for ling cod and abalone. Many times by myself, fortunately I have survived rough cold conditions love your videos. I'm 63 still love the Pacific Ocean Cheers Used to cook the abalone on the grill with pepper Jack cheese wow!
Thank you, glad I found your channel!🙂 For a long time I have had an interest in fishing for tropical species like these mahi which are just so exotic. Live on the coast of the arctic ocean where I have fished a lot since childhood, but I want to try fishing in the warmer areas with new species 🙂🐟
Man I watch these videos and can only wish I lived in Florida. Or even better, the keys. I am in New York and we do not have any kind of fishing like you guys and girls have down there. Geez you jump in and are greeted by trigger fish than 100yrds ahead Mahi. First of all we can't even see 10 yards ahead in our water. You are blessed down there.
