Hey Kallie- remember the time you said to floss one tooth? I set out to drink 1 sip of water when I work up. 1 sip led to 5 sips. 5 sips led 10 along with my daily vitamins. Regular vitamins and a start on water led to improved health and hydration. All it took was 1 sip. Thank you for showing me it was a start, and a start meant doing something!
Thomas Edison famously said that every time he “failed” at inventing the electric light bulb and knew what didn’t work, he was one step closer to learning what would work; he saw that challenge as opportunity not defeat. This is “ passion and perseverance” at its finest.👍👍
Thank you for all your encouragement!! I have two “storage rooms” in my home. Packed to the ceiling. When I begin to work on them, I feel overwhelmed. After watching several of your videos, I decided to get large cardboard boxes. I labeled each of them & started sorting items. Many boxes I put on my front porch, those are the things that will be donated. Putting them on the front porch means they’re already on their way to homeless shelters, thrift stores & the library. I sort the items away from the storage rooms so I don’t feel overwhelmed. Doing this helps me create a more manageable daily routine. So far I have several boxes to add to my garage sale. I don’t let a day go by without sorting one hour every morning. The rooms are full due to the accumulation of things I have inherited from three family members. It took me a long time to decide what to do because there are so many memories & keepsakes. But now because of the quantity they’re becoming a burden. And I know my family members would not want that. Thank you!!! 😊💕🦋
CONGRATULATIONS Tiffany!! It's a lot of work physically and emotionally to ho through lots of items, especially sentimental ones. Keep up the good work!!
@@pamelal939 That really didn't need to be said. If she realizes that the boxes are larger than she needs, I'm sure she will know to get smaller sizes. The point is that she is making really good progress with items that are many times difficult to make decisions about. A congratulations, keep up the good work, or etc. would be much more appreciated than what size boxes to use.
@@pamelal939 Yes they were quite large & I agree, those would be too large to keep. I should have explained after I was done sorting I placed the items I am keeping in plastic storage boxes with lids. Those look much nicer and are easier to have. 😊🦋
I set monthly goals rather than yearly goals. I set 3 goals in january; I only succeeded at 1. Those other 2 got moved to February and I added 1 more. February's goals are looking good, so I'll add 2 or 3 more in March. The overall goal is that each monthly goal will become a HABIT, like your clean sink idea. Clean sink was my December goal, and I'm still doing it. 😀
yes. why have I never thought about this? It would totally work with my ADHD/ASD brain. A month is very much the foreseeable future and I usually tend to sense my overall mood for a month at the start (if I don't push my luck). A year is just too uncertain, so many things can happen and I get derailed if I plan that far ahead with very specific things. On small, specific goal at a time works best for a build-up. Now I gotta do it. Getting a habit for writing (as a first) and getting back into regular exercise. my other things I want to build in can come later.
@@ammalyrical5646 setting monthly goals or themes or projects work great for me. At the end of the first week I can see and evaluate my progress and tweek my approach and fine tune my approach to the task. The next month can extend the goal with a new deadline or not, but the lessons learned in one month are so valuable. I hold myself accountable, and I'm never terribly disappointed or hard on myself because at least I had a plan and did my best ❤️👍
I really appreciate how you don't just tell us that we need to get our lives together! You give us a full breakdown on what we can do to make a lifestyle change and how to maintain it. The "big goal breakdown" is a game changer!
I love all of your videos. I’m an “old mom” with adult kids who don’t live at home, but so much of your content is relatable to me, and so thank you for sharing so many great tips
I like that you’re picking up a book in front of your children, that’s a good example vs the ever so easy grabbing the phone. Even if it’s a little bit here and there, they are seeing you read that’s awesome 🤩
Totally agree! ..reading your book aloud while your children are playing, also shows them that reading is important - they don't have to understand the subject matter to increase their vocabulary and appreciate a good book. 😀 ..also, we only fail when we fail to try.
Last year I switch to a “total goal” and for the first time I actually accomplished the goals I set out! This year I’ve done the same thing and so far so good 😊
Letting a small goal grow is a good idea. I tried this with my gym membership. Go to the gym twice a month. I’m hoping eventually this will make my mind truly feel like I am a regular gym goer so I’ll go with less excuses. Once there I like being there and I’ve had years I did go several days of week each week but it did not stick.
I’ve always thought I was Lazy, but this video makes me feel loads better! Having a clear understanding on how to make a change & put out in such a concise way is amazeballs for my brain. I’ve always had this “All or Nothing” mindset, but now I feel like I can improve. Thanks Kallie!!! 🤗
No dirty dishes in my sink has been achieved thanks to you!! That is a goal I feel so proud of and I am surprised I’ve actually stuck with for 2 months!
Health issues. It's difficult to be consistent with anything when you spend most of the time in bed unable to move. My new goal is to declutter and get a cleaner home. I'm well on my way, one item at a time.
The idea of the total goal makes goal setting seem achievable. And the fail and learn reminded me of a story about an scientist who seemingly kept doing the same thing but just a little bit differently. He said that he wasn't failing, he was figuring out what wasn't working. I feel empowered to actually do the changes I've been thinking about for a while now!🥰
One of my tricks is to have 'leveled' small goals within the larger one. If the goal is walking, then I have a low, middle, and high goal for each day (and sometimes also week and month if I'm particularly organized or had time to write it out). On a hard day, my low goal might be a 5 minute walk, something so small I know not only that I can do it but I can probably package it with something. The middle goal would be 20 minutes, and the high goal 40. More often than not, I find myself able to hit the middle (and real) goal, and also the high one with surprising frequency. At my top, my low goals never go beyond the "real" goal, but the high goal can skyrocket. Walked a marathon distance "by accident" a couple years ago using this method. I don't expect those extra high goal reaches to happen too often, but it's both amazing when it does, and really helps to reach the long term goals I really have. (Which at the time was to simply set a habit of getting out of the house each day beyond work.)
Your like my new BFF. I wish my boys had a guy version of your channel that they could listen to that would send them the same message. THE SINK ONE IS BIG. I DO THAT EVERY NIGHT BUT SOME HOW DURING THE NIGHT THE MESSY DISH FAIRY COMES AND LEAVES ME A DIRTY GIFT 😡. Love the idea of the a bigger time line to complete a goal.
I love the idea about making yearly goals. I also like to break them down into bite size chunks so it seems manageable. This covers both: not thinking you failed because Life got in the way and you couldn’t meet your goal for the day. And also not getting so overwhelmed by the big yearly goal. Thanks for sharing!
I so look forward to you talks each week! Your reasons for doing/not doing something makes so much sense. Please keep helping those of us who need your encouragement to accomplish life as a wife, mom, daughter, sister... Have a great week 😀
I love, love, love your videos. Did I mention love? You have such a kind way of explaining the things we all know we should do but for many reasons don't. I have MS but I have been able to push myself to get more done by planning out small chunks of time to accomplish things I really feel need to be done. I owe this to you. Your smile and gentle nudges have inspired me so much. I'm slowly decluttering my home and organizing. Thank you!
Love the change of mind set!! Raised on win or lose, my last boss advocated win or learn, so refreshing. You are wise beyond your years, I love your common sense approach to lifestyle challenges, Kallie! Thank you!
This advice reminds me of the Fly Lady program . (I haven’t thought her in years so I don’t have any further details) Very practical and achievable and forgiving advice just like what this lovely young lady is offering.
I just happened across your channel about two weeks ago. I must say, I'm almost 60 years old and have adopted quite a bit of your advice and I already feel like my life has been changed! I've been able to declutter and rid myself of not only the needless stuff but also the tremendous emotional baggage that goes with it. Your tips and suggestions have been truly phenomenal and I can't even begin to thank you enough!! 😃❤️
Just watched your dishes before bed video. You’re the first person to actually motivate me and actually GET ME UP and clean up the kitchen tonight before sleep because I know tomorrow is going to be a busy day and I get to wake up to a tidy kitchen!! Thank you!! ❤️❤️
These are incredibly useful ideas! Many things I have read recently promote these ideas. You are spot on with this video. Nice to see it presented so well.
Literally love this channel ❤️ I've tried loads of decluttering channels but I always end up pretty down on myself with their unattainable homes. This is perfect for me. Not minimalist but encouraging of daily decluttering. Thanks for the great content, Kallie 😍❤️
I came across your channel towards the end of last year and was evaluating what goals I wanted to set for myself in 2022. I definitely stole your kitchen sink idea and it has been a noticeable improvement to my home. I have an almost 3 year old and a 4 month old so finding time to get anything done around the house is a challenge but these little habits and goal make all the difference.
Another RU-vid I love is Dana k white from a slob comes clean- she has a dishes/clean sink I like and other ideas for how to declutter without making things worse.
Thank you for sharing your personal goal by placing books in rooms that are accessible to you during play time with your babies . I have 2 babies around the same age as yours and I reach for my phone when they’re playing or they’re entertained . I feel guilty for doing it but it’s my adult stimulation since I’m a stay at home mom . HOWEVER , I’d rather read the book I’ve been meaning to read for 1 year !!! Thank you again for sharing 🤗💕
I love your idea about keeping a book in the kitchen for your pockets of time! I'm a new breastfeeding mom, and have been keeping a book near where I normally nurse my baby so that when I have a free hand, I can read aloud to my baby
I do love all your videos but I think this is my favorite so far!! You broke the big scary idea of goals down in such a way that makes it so doable. I feel so much more capable! Thank you so much for all your research, knowledge, and the courage to share. Love all that you are doing. Keep it up mama, you're an amazing light we need more of in this world! 💜
Thank you for this video! I am not LAZY! Being back in college at 41 years old has made me more aware of my goals and how to fit them into every life while working and still being a mom, wife, friend, daughter, sister, etc. I love your videos! I am working on the kitchen sink rule right now. Life was hectic last week, but with team work, it was clean most nights. This is a new day and a new week.
I download ebooks to my phone so I always have my current book with me and I read whenever I have a few moments. So much better than scrolling social media.
Love your videos, Kallie. A lot of this isn’t rocket science, but you have a way of explaining it and laying out concepts that is just so easy to understand and take in. As a mom with with kids about the same age as yours, you’re also an inspiration.
Absolutely loved this video! I have never thought of making the big year goal then breaking it out and setting myself up! I will definitely be implementing this method! I always learn from your videos! Thanks girl. ❤
I just wanted to thank you for this video. I found you in my feed recently and have been motivated to try some of your tips/hacks. However, I tend to get excited about things and am really gung ho for awhile and then fizzle out. I actually got out a notebook and took notes during this particular video because I saw that these tips might actually help me to make a more long lasting change. Thanks!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Yes!! Thank you!! 66 days!!! I always tell people that. We learned that in one of my psych classes in college and it made so much more sense than 21 days. However, I do think if you can do it for 21 days then you're more likely to stick with it.
Thank you for your videos and tips. I'm one of those people who "need motivation" but after seeing this and your motivation short I started going to bed with a clean sink a few months ago and now that my dishwasher decided to stop drying then started leaking I'm without it until the parts come in......it's a pain keeping up on the dishes but it's soooooo nice waking up and nit having that burden of doing dishes from the day before. I've also started daily and weekly chores which helps keep the house clean and tidy. I also have my 3 boys help clean up the living room and their rooms. Thank you for all your tips!!!
Kallie I have been binge watching your videos now off and on for about a week. Am extremely impressed at your evolution from 2020-22 - you started out well, but you have still come a long way! Although we are at two very different stages in our lives, I have already learned a lot from you. I really like your approach. But THIS is the video that finally caused me to hit the subscribe button. Maybe someday I will elaborate, but for now: Thank you for sharing these insights with us.
1. Set a total goal like 100 days to eat vegan 2. Set a smaller comfortable goal first n then keep adding e.g clean sink before sleeping 3. Set environment for habit
Great tips! I will definitely be incorporating the "total goal" concept, and I love knowing that old saying about "21 days to form a habit" is wrong. It's never worked for me!
This was eye-opening and inspiring! The way your formatted the information feels hopeful, rather than accusatory, which I'm sure many of your viewers can appreciate (myself included)! The inverted pyramid is such a great visual way to help simplify longer-term goals down to small, more attainable steps toward the overall intention. I love the way you tap into people's psychology with your tips and tricks. I'm so psyched, I feel like today I'll conquer my basement...tomorrow, I'll conquer *the world*! 🤪😊 Keep up the great work!
The sink is huge, my mom always cleaned up the kitchen after dinner and the "kitchen closed" announcement came! Us kids more than cleaned and put up anything we snuck and used after the closure🤷🏾♀️My kids did/do the same thing😉🤫 Moms who want to read more, throw it in your purse...shuttling kids gives you a lot of reading time👌🏾
But then I say to myself, oh, well, I have time, I’ll make that first plant based meal tomorrow. Then tomorrow comes and I think, well, I’m too busy, I’ll do it tomorrow FOR SURE! Then tomorrow goes off the rails and I say, OK, I’ll stop worrying THIS week and start fresh NEXT week, thinking I have plenty of time, especially since there’s 365 days in a year, times at least 2 meals a day, I have PLENTY of time. Rinse and repeat until the next thing I know it’s October and I realize I’ve only made 25 meals there’s no way I’ll get 75 more in the next couple months with the holidays coming so I’ll just start fresh again NEXT year. This makes me feel oh so much better since I don’t have to worry about it again until LATER!
I love all of your videos, and I watched a ton of videos on goalsetting. This is going to change my life, and it was absolutely necessary. Thank you so much.
I love your take on motivation. Re-thinking about how I think I lack it is going to jump start my effort in developing a more sustainable end game goal. Thank you!
I enjoy your videos a lot, thank you for sharing your research and experience. I need to point out that the very first one suggestion “set the total goal”, would just totally play into my procrastination. I like the second suggestion: to break down the goal to a small chunk till it’s manageable and easy to complete. The clea kitchen sink is the best idea ever - I am doing it and loving it. Thank you for promoting this habit in many of your videos.
There’s a lady called the flylady system, and that was her thing! Always have a clean kitchen sink. If you can’t do anything else, keep your sink clear.
I have to watch that Ted Talk, I have grit for certain goals and I never knew what to call it. I completed 75 hard and learned a lot (I recognize that 75 hard is wonderful, problematic and not doable for a lot of people) idk if I fully believed I could do it but I was so desperate for a change
Some of these signs are ADHD.. Especially in women. Many women are actually undiagnosed because we display it differently than the typical ADHD signs ...
Love that inverted pyramid near the end of the video that transforms objectives into behavior. Think I will make some blank pyramids and put them in my planner. Great video!
James Clear seems to have inspired quite a few people! Should give him props. Just finished Tiny Habits and it must have been on your reading list as well.
Ok Cally I have started the 30 days of clean sink but I see your maybe not perfect cause I saw your oven and it looks like mine! A mess lol! It's hard!
Sometimes I try total goals and still don’t reach them. Even things like a book reading total depends on the year as I have a lot of different hobbies and my motivation and energy levels can increase. Sometimes I can read multiple books and reach my goal (which isn’t even a lot), yet other years I barely get to reading even one or two books. This year I decided not to write down any goals at the beginning of the year. My therapist said that it’s okay to take breaks from goals. And that you don’t have to be working on them constantly. She used the example of going to school to work for a degree. There are breaks throughout (such as summer breaks). This also isn’t to say that I’m not working on any goals/toward anything. I’m just not necessarily going to write down an end/total goal or anything right now for most stuff. Such as with reading books, this year I’m not going to write down a goal of how many books I want to read this year. I’ll still try to read at least one book but don’t want to set a goal of trying to read X amount of books this year in case I don’t reach it.
Thank you so much for sharing that it’s ok to take breaks from goals. After years and years of setting goals and often failing, I feel like it weighs really heavy on me (constantly feeling like a failure, constantly thinking of ways to improve, it’s exhausting). I never knew it was ok to not have a goal 🙀
I don't know your health/health issues or if you have any and definitely not going to pry.. but if you know someone or can do a video for those with chronic pain/fibromyalgia and have problems with cleaning, decluttering, organizing due to pain and all that.... I lose motivation and I just get completely exhausted and the apartment looks like a beginner hoard because of my 6 yr old daughter always bringing EVERYTHING out, plus I have things I'm going through but then pain creeps in and I stop and then it sits there and I get overwhelmed 😑😔
Beautiful clip ! ❤️ Very nice Vlog, Can You make clip.. Organisation, cleaning office desk - Paper Organization Declutter - sorting ripping..normal speed?
