Set goals for 2024 in our monthly workshop & get a handwritten quests card: patreon.com/erikthor INTPs and INFPs are often posted as polar opposites, and while that's true for many INFPs and INTPs, there are certainly lots of people who score in between feeling and thinking. Let's talk about those people and let's talk about the difference between INFPs and INTPs today!

Become an Actualized INFP with Erik Thor!
My name is Erik Thor and I have always had a lot of love for INFPs. You have all helped me more than you know and your energy continues to be an inspiration to me in my own life. I wanted to make this channel because I don't really have time to on my main channel anymore. This channel is dedicated to talking about the INFP - introverted, intuitive, feeling, perceiving personality type, but without stereotypes.
The goal is to help you get the most out of personal growth and find your own path in life. I'm against labels and for insight into the unique things that make you who you are, and to me, the MBTI is just a tool. I use Jungian psychology to help guide people in the goal of individuation, integration, and personal growth.

I find it hard to imagine anyone can live their lives using only logic or emotions.

yeah, that is a fairy tale mentality. Real life has many colors and flavors. Too complex to only be bound to logic or emotion. They are but tools

If the keyword is *using*, this is literally impossible. I am as grounded in T(i) as one can be, and even I have to admit that while you want your T functions at the steering wheel, it sucks as an engine, and vice-versa. Plus, the T-dominant and F-Dominant still have the opposing letter as their Demon (8th) function (INTP has F(i) and INFP has T(i)), meaning that, at some point, it will take over. If the keyword was *preferring*, AB-SO-LU-TE-LY. I am 38, and only a few years ago, when I fell into the Myer-Briggs thing did I realize pure rationality and logic would only lead me towards both inhumanity and apathy.

@@auuuumbers yeaaah same, I scored as an INTP in one test but most tests I've taken I end up as INFP and whenever I see something about MBTI I relate to stuff from INFP and INTP types more or less at a 50/50 (but mostly INFP and also interestingly ISFP)

Look into cognitive function guys. Mbti dichotomy is less accurate than understanding the cognitive function and reflect ourselves to these.

@@yustinussetyoyuniarto4816oh I do. I am definitely not basing things off just the MBTI. Unfortunately, I still can’t figure it out. Maybe it’s because I am a true INTP and I need to gather and gather and gather more data until I can figure it out. 😂😂😂 I do have very strong feelings about things, but they are typically based in data.

I think the really big issue is just that there are SO many stereotypes surrounding Fi-leads. In reality, a lot of Fi-leads are really smart and sense a lot of things. Fi stereotypes are clearly perpetuation by people who arent Fi-leads themselves. It's just the old 'let's all redicule the sensitive person, because, haha, you are so sensitive'.

I don't know, it's things like this that makes me think that the whole mbti system is flawed. I agree with Eriks final statement we are how we are. And the dicotomys are not always that pronounced. Furthermore thinking vs feeling is a poor choice of words. Its easy to imagine a scale from introvert to extrovert. But its quite a bit harder to see the same scale between thinking and feeling. They are not natural opposits in the same way and we all use them simultaneously all the time. They both also have very strong values connected to them. No one wants to be portrayed as being either coold and unempathetic or unthinking and controlled by emotions. I know that this is not exactly what it means in the mbti system but I still makes it hard to understand because that's what we have in the back of our heads.

when i answer tests according with who i am today, i score INTP, but when i include general whole life experience i get get INFP ( i guess its an INFP with a Ti feature :) i also work as an technical artist now so that can be the reason. Another INFP thing versus INTP is the theme of supernatural. I can really let it go and create a reality where ghosts aliens, astrology and divination are just as real as the real thing. While INTPS are far more skeptical - this was the point that really convinced me.
@KarlJeager
@KarlJeager 11 месяцев назад
When you say "create a reality" do you mean it in a worldbuilding story sense where you imagine a world where those things are true and extrapolate about what that would be like or do you mean applying that to the actual world and are able to believe those things really exist?

I used to get INTP when I was in middle school, somewhere between INTP/INFP around high school/college, and now INFP when I take mbti tests. Since the earliest I can remember, as far back as pre-school, I've always been curious about the why's of the people around me. As a child, I found it frustrating that I struggled to understand people. I could sense the subtle shifts happening somewhere in their inner emotional landscape but not understand what I was sensing. I remember often using rationalization to try to make sense of people's shifting moods/emotions (which led me astray many times). But as my emotional palette increased with life experience, I acquired a language to interpret the different shades of color people exude in a way that makes sense to me. The more I feel in life, the more beautiful people feel to me. edit: changed 'the' to 'a'

Oh, I forgot to add: I still don't know what my mbti is supposed to be exactly... But that's okay too

From my experience of meeting some INFPs, they don't even collect the data to verify in many cases. However, they do this very well in their own narrow field of interest and often become extremely good at what they do. This can make them over confident on other topics. As an INTP I have to verify everything, although outwardly I can appear flippant or vague to others when I don't explain myself

I've been mistyped before as an INFP, but ever since I ran a couple of tests after discovering cognitive functions I can say for sure that I'm an INTP, I naturally have this tendency to just "see the patterns" of logic and concepts, and that could apply with people's behavior which as far as I know that's more an Fe function rather than Fi, and I say this because I've dealt with IxFPs (and strong Fi users overall) before, and the whole thing about "knowing people's intentions with what they say and do and how do they say it or do it" doesn't necessarily apply because Fi (specially Fi dominants) tend to reflect themselves on other people based on their own personal feelings, but in the other hand most Ti doms for instance (IxTP) do have the ability to see through people's emotions, but because Fe is our inferior function means that we don't want to dive in into them most of the times (with all due respect xD), but we still end up playing the societies' role of "agreed phoneyness" for the sake of peace and harmony, and that's something Fi isn't willing to do, Fi won't fake it for you because for them doesn't make sense to pretend to feel something they're not really feeling even if it's an inferior function

I would use to get INTP in tests like the 16personality, and when I started looking into cognitive functions, I could see I definitely had a Se blindspot. I started wondering about my judging functions, cause the one thing that kept pushing me towards thinking, was how outwardly I showed my emotions, I have tried having the day of my life, and people would still think I was depressed. I started to realize that yes I was a feeling type, but not extraverted feeler, and I am still sure that Se is my blindspot. So that could only be one type, INFP.

But what if you, through objective reasoning, have concluded that there is pretty much never objective data that can be fully trusted so you have to experience it yourself?
@actualizedinfp

good point. honestly, how i'd determine it for you, would be by looking at what makes you "shine up" and express the most energy or passion. detached reasoning or stepping in and immersing yourself fully with something and how it feels.

I thought Ti uses internal framework,internal logic (especially inductive logic) rather than facts and data.Ti will reject data and fact if it fails to align with their internal framework.

Diagnose via inferior function. If you are more aware of not understanding people around and caring how people FEEL around / about you (Fe in inferior) than caring what people THINK about you (Te in inferior), you are an INTP. Dou you more care about or respect what moral authorities say (INTPs) or science authorities say (INFPs - INFPs rarely respect moral authorities, as they have own moral compass instead). In worst case, move to nemezis function, it should be easy to say, what makes you more active to wonder about.

Do you think there is difference between being emotional and being sensitive? Is being emotional just the same as being sensitive? I wonder sometimes ~
@aniokay

I guess it all depends on definition and how you use the word. Sensitive can both refer to being sensitive to feelings, but also just being sensitive to sensations. In general, I think of being sensitive as being an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person).
